Sushi is legit! The menu offers many specialty rolls and traditional rolls such as sashimi, nigiri. We started off with some fried tofu (not pictured) and followed up with two specialty rolls. For two people, this was plenty to fill us up. The Monster roll is pretty filling with its size, tuna, and a piece of tempura. The roll on the left (forgot the name), was a nice balance to the heavier Monster roll. I thoroughly enjoyed the specialty rolls! Service was great! We were running behind our reservation time and I called to let them know. We still got our table when we arrived! They told us about the happy hour and we got some drinks and an appetizer. Water was always refilled. Ambiance is low key. Great for catching up with friends and families. Bathrooms had cool, neon lighting like you're at the club. Went here on a whim and it was kind of disappointing. There was no one at the hostess stand so we had to wait a while to be acknowledged. Once seated, our waitress took a while to come over. Place is cute and currently decorated for Christmas. Wasn't a fan of their water. Ordered a lemon drop and it took a while to arrive despite them not being busy. Lemon drop was pretty good. So I ordered takeout from Fighting Fish and didn't get the full dine in kind of experience but everything else left a great impression. From the moment I hit the order button, the food was ready and waiting for me when I arrived. The inside vibe seemed really casual and chill from that brief moment I was in there it was calm. I went with the Tiger Tempura and the Sweet Potato Roll, and honestly, I wish I had doubled my order. Both were really good and fresh. I was curious about the sweet potato roll, that was new to me and was different than what im used to seeing on a menu but I was excited and I'm so glad I tried it. It was simple and just enough to stand out. If you're in the area and craving sushi, I recommend giving this place a shot. You really can't go wrong with fresh, well-made sushi. Upon entering, it's not very appealing, but once you're inside the restaurant It's very nice. This is not a big restaurant but appears to be Family friendly, good for a date or just eating by yourself. There were about 6 to 8 people already in there. I was seated immediately, and my order was taken shortly thereafter. I ordered Tobiko roll, California roll and shrimp tempura roll. I also ordered a ginger salad and miso soup. This is the first time I order the tobiko roll and it came with different colored tobiko. I addressed that with the waiter he assured me that it was the same thing. I'm used to the orange Tobiko, but I decided to try it anyway. The different colors were very appealing to the eye. There was a slight fishy taste but Still good. I also ordered a California roll which was good and a shrimp tempura roll which was good. I did ask for some more eel sauce. Ginger salad- VERY good! I like that they had avocado and the salad and tomatoes. The salad was very very fresh. Miso soup - that miso soup was lacking something. It tasted very bland and I'm a big fan of miso soup. Small and intimate location with low lighting throughout, including the restrooms. I'm personally not a fan of such low lighting in restaurants as I like to be able to see the food and cleanliness of the restaurant and the darkness conceals all of that. The food however was very good. The nachos appetizers were phenomenal as well as all the rolls we ordered. I loved that they had selections of beer and sake from both China and Japan which you don't see often. The hostess was phenomenal. From the outside it doesn't look like much, and to be honest, it isn't a grand affair inside either; however, the restaurant provides exceptional cuisine at a very reasonable price. The starters are very, very filling, and the lunch specials are likewise generous. The serving staff are very friendly and helpful, efficient, and kind. An enjoyable and delicious Friday night out with my family of 4 (hubs, 1YO and sis). We walked in with no reservation and were seated in 40 mins. Reservations are highly recommended on a weekend. Just our luck, we happened to get there at the right time to get on the waitlist for a short wait time. They were able to accommodate our party. The service was a refreshing reminder that who you hire is representing and a reflection of the establishment. The kindest people in the industry worked the shift the night we were there. I felt so welcomed and wanted in their restaurant, even with my 1YO! Who is so well behaved, but they didn't know if he was but was still was so welcoming. The place is a date night and night out joint, so a toddler may change the vibe. But the staff didn't make it feel weird and welcomed our family. Loved that. And my son was super chill, probably because the ambiance was very chill but busy. FF is one of the best sushi restaurants in Richmond. All the rolls we got were delicious, but my favorite was the crab fest roll and the sunset roll. Sunset roll melted in my mouth. We started with the salmon wontons (steamed) and they were super yummy. They have kimchi and cream cheese in them too. For rolls, I got the Cowboy and my partner got the Firecracker. Two days later and she is still talking about how good it was. The Cowboy was okay, I don't think I'd get it again, especially for $21. I feel like it was missing something flavor-wise as well. We got drinks as well. I initially ordered the lemongrass martini, but they were out of the oolong tea gin, which I feel like would've been key for flavor, so I passed. My partner got the modified version and said it was quite strong and gave a nice buzz. My second choice drink was the fresh cut. DELICIOUS. The coconut milk made it frothy and creamy, so yum! Based on a recommendations from a Richmond local, I stopped by Fighting Fish for a solo celebratory dinner after completing Richmond Marathon. While the restaurant has a very interesting menu, I decided to go with a more "traditional" route. For my dining pleasure, I went with the fried gyoza and Fighting Fish Poke Don. All of my items were absolutely delicious, and I thought the poke don had a generous amount of food for $18. The gyoza were perfectly fried with a decent amount of filling inside. In terms of service, I had great interactions with everyone who dropped by my table. Btw, the hostess (a Black young lady with short hair) was an absolute delight and an amazing people person. Since I was visiting Richmond for the marathon, I'm not too familiar with restaurant prices for the area, but I thought the prices were pretty good for a sushi spot. The low-light setting gives Fighting Fish a nice, lounge-like vibe, which is perfect for a date. However, I thought the restaurant was a bit too dark for me and my old eyes because I had to use my phone's flashlight to read the menu (LOL). While my trip to Richmond was very short, I will be more than happy to take another shot at Fighting Fish and try some of the more interesting items on the menu. read more

Amazing. I'm a Korean from northern Virginia so I know sushi and I have high standards of sushi restaurants. This place hits all the marks I think it's comparable to sushi cho in Fairfax in a weird way. This place has great fish portion sizes for the money and the fish is always fresh. Fighting Fish is one of my favorite places for sushi rolls in RVA. The fish is fresh and flavorful, with each roll offering something unique that sets it apart from others on the menu. I typically gravitate towards nigiri when going to a sushi establishment, however have yet to try the assorted nigiri plate Fighting Fish offers as the rolls always end up calling to me. During my latest visit the Sunset was a standout and a roll I'd recommend to anyone who likes salmon (spicy salmon and avocado roll w/ seared salmon). If you're craving something other than traditional sushi or rolls, the Tiradito is one of my favorite dishes on the menu (and the only dish I've ordered every time I've visited). The Tiradito features yellowtail in a bright citrus sauce that doesn't hold anything back (so maybe avoid if citrus isn't your thing). The price of each dish or roll we order ranges from $15-$20, which is in line with my expectations for sushi and the Japanese posters on the wall provide a welcoming atmosphere without being overbearing. My only complaint about Fighting Fish is that the service is consistently slow, both in terms of having your order taken and the time it takes for food to come out. Every time I've visited, I've left with the same feeling, and so I make certain that I don't come here if I have a tight time commitment after dinner. read more

I got the ZAKURA FIZZ drink I believe and it was delicious and they also have Mocktails and it was part of the happy hour! The wait staff was very attentive but not annoying or in your face! The dim lighting is very different and interesting. The sushi was fantastic I got the Unagi (Eel) and the Rainbow roll I think. YES I got the Unagi roll because of Ross from Friends...silly I know! Tuna tower was excellent and larger than I expected, and surprisingly the French fries with wasabi ketchup were large and excellent as well. 15 pc sashimi was beautiful and more than I expected. Others at the table had dragon roll, FF burrito, and eel rolls. One other review made the comment that it was an excellent value and I would agree with this.
