If I were to include only the food in the rating, 5 enthusiastic stars. Taste and quality seemed excellent. Really good cuts of nigiri. The bao was open like tacos rather than sealed like usual dim sum but delish. Wontons were crispy and flavorful. I do take off a point for ambiance and pricing. Prices seemed higher than expected for the quantities provided. Still, I ordered and I ate so the value was obviously there for me. But pricing would be 3 out of 5. Setting: The dining room itself was fine. Tables and booths, a long bar with bottles displayed in a way that they could not be missed -- this is a place that wants to sell drinks. I am not sure I would want to be here in full-swing happy hour. Bathrooms: Dark walls with 3 light fixtures in the men's room, two not working and one using low wattage bulb. VERY dark. To be delicate, there is insufficient light for the task at hand. Lest it be merely ill-timed bulbs, I asked wife about the ladies room. Same issue. Owners, don't be cheap put in some more light bulbs FFS. From our table I could see up the stairway to the second floor, which maybe used to be a dining area. Boxes and boxes of inventory stacked high at the top of the stair. Looking further, there were stored inventory items above the railing on the balcony overlooking the bar. I thought it was all dead space until a child emerged and came downstairs, obviously biding time up there while relatives worked. I hope there is sufficient room for fire egress should the need arise. Setting 1.5 out of 5. So okay. 4 out of 5 because I cannot figure out how to weight all this. If food is all you care about, come on.
Service was a little slow but she was very apologetic. It truly wasn't her fault the other employees just kept pulling her in every direction so we understood. Now for the food. The hibachi was very flavorful especially the chicken. We could go without the steak next time but that it wasn't good just not as great and tender as the chicken. The custom roll was delicious and the Be mine roll was super cute. It came in the shape of individual hearts, A lot for one bite but pretty tasty. Would definitely come back for some good hibachi and try some other sushi items.
Nice vibe. Asian fusion. Mostly sushi menu, but you can get orange chicken and egg drop soup. All good. Great drink menu. Front door can be very difficult to open. But worth the work.
One of the best sushi restaurants in Richmond - always fresh and the service is always friendly. I went for my birthday on a Saturday before lunch ended. I have always gotten really good service at Level no matter how busy they are. The best way I can describe it is warm and welcoming. This visits our server was able to help us pick out the best sake and appetizer. I was even surprised with a birthday dessert. Sushi is always fresh and tasty.
My first time ordering from level. I'll definitely be back! I placed a takeout order online which was very easy. My order was ready very quickly and nicely put together in the to go bag as to not let anything spill. They packaged the soups separate from my cold sushi which I appreciated. This was my first time inside and it was super nice! The bar has these cool lights on it's surface that light up when you rest your arm on it. I want to come back to dine in some time. I got the live tree, spicy maki combo which came with a ginger salad and miso soup, another miso soup, and a mango madness roll. The live tree was like nothing I've ever had before. It was "Salmon, yellowtail, tuna, crabmeat, vocado & ikura wrapped in cucumber in ponzu sauce" I really enjoyed the variety of seafood in it and the fresh/crisp cucumber wrap. The spicy maki combo came with " Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail." It was a great dinner deal! The miso soup was flavorful, sushi was fresh, and there was plenty of protein in every roll. This is one of my new favorite sushi spots!
I went here after I saw the Yelp Coupon, but unfortunately they haven't honored that since the pandemic. So don't bother trying with that. I wish I knew that ahead of time as I wouldn't have got quite as much stuff lol. Overall, it was still pretty good though. We got the appetizer similar to Crab Rangoons, I liked it but the ration of mix to the outside layer wasn't proportionate. The honey chicken was very good. If I were going to return, I'd come back to get it as a lunch special. The pad Thai was ok- I've definitely had better. I felt it lacked flavor & called for more sauce. We topped it off with the tempura Oreos which was fun! The restaurant itself is on the heart of broad street so the outside noise can be loud but the inside is nice & intimate with a romantic vibe.
This restaurant is always consistent and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. The bar even lights up when you touch it. Each visit, I have to get the Chesapeake bay roll and Fuji Wontons!
A last minute invite to go out for dinner landed myself and a friend at Level. We sat at the bar and drink orders taken promptly. We both started with ginger salads which had lots of lettuce and yummy ginger sauce. Our order of Wasabi Ping Pong Pork meatball wrapped in wasabi deep fried with breadcrumbs yumm yumm. The sauce had a nice afterburner kick. My friends Peking Duck Wraps were excellent. We shared Eel Love Rolls of fresh water, eel, cucumber, & asparagus inside with more eel and avocado on top. My other roll was the Dynamite Roll Spicy scallop and crunchy top with avocado, salmon and tuna crunch. My friend had the Level Up roll: Spicy kani, avocado inside topped with succulent rock shrimp, tuna & kiwi w. tobiko with a & honey wasabi & white sauce. Absolutely divine was each bite. The bar surface is touch sensitive and lights up with multiple colors a really cool effect. We loved the high ceilings and zen blossom like lighting covers. The noise level was very reasonable with no need to strain to have a conversation.
We were told about this restaurant by someone who lives in Richmond and stopped before seeing a show locally. We tried a handful of things during our visit and they were all very good. We plan to stop back when we go to Richmond for a show again. Service was attentive and atmosphere was dark, yet comfortable. Good place for a date night. Fuji wontons were awesome. Kiddo got gyoza and lo mein and loved them both. Drink was amazing.
THE BEST SUSHI IN RICHMOND! The pictures are terrible because I couldn't finish my meal without leaving a glowing yelp review. I've been craving sushi but the last few places I've tried are either overpriced, low quality or just generally disappointing. My roommates and I got halfway through our meal and couldn't stop talking about how delicious everything is so I needed to leave a review. The quality of the tuna and salmon were amazing! The severing sizes are also very generous especially for take out. Thank you Level sushi!
Monday 2/28/22 7:35pm Lately I've been wanting light meals like salads. Tonight I wanted a Tobiko Roll. So here I am. Seated immediately by a friendly waitress. Ordered a Tobiko Roll , shrimp tempura roll, miso soup and ginger salad. Although not a big restaurant the atmosphere was dark and intimate. Could make for a romantic dinner date or casual. Everything was delicious and fresh. Restaurant appears clean and taken care of. I also really liked the plates lol. I recommend you checking the place out. Fun fact: YEARS ago, I was in this building frequently as it was my insurance company building. We're talking late 80's early 90's.
1. The ambiance indoors was nice! It would be a good place for nice dinner or even a place to grab dessert at night. It looks like it's closed, but it's not. The door is also super hard to open. There is a step up to get in so plan ahead if you have trouble getting up steps. When you put something on the bar, the table lights up which is pretty cool. 2. I was the only person their so service was pretty quick and attentive. 3. The sushi and the bento box were pretty good! It really isn't anything I couldn't get at other places in the area so I probably won't be back for lunch but I'd definitely check it out for dinner!
Went in soon after they opened on a Saturday. As other reviews have said, the restaurant looked closed but it was not! We were literally the only customers for our entire visit. Servers were very nice as a result, and let us take our time enjoying a really fun variety of sushi. I highly recommend you take advantage of their times with lower traffic, because we were well taken care of and it was such a surprisingly sleek and calm environment to enjoy lunch. One thing: the door is on Broad Street, and there is no parking specific to this restaurant. We parked in the neighborhood a couple blocks south and then walked for maybe two minutes, so it wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed everything about this place. Would go back!

I decided to try this spot while ordering from home because one of my usual go-to restaurants was closed. I've now ordered three separate times, and I think that says everything. The food is consistently great. The quality of the sushi feels noticeably higher than several other places I've tried. I ordered the Level King Roll, Angel Roll, and Godzilla Roll, and one of them has officially earned favorite status. I believe it's the Level King Roll. Fresh, flavorful, and well put together. I do have two pieces of constructive feedback for both the business and future customers. First, some rolls are advertised as spicy, but the heat isn't really there. If you're expecting spice, you may want to ask for extra. Second, the business name appears differently across platforms, sometimes as "Level Restaurant and Bar" and other times as "Level Sushi and Bar." A little consistency there would help with clarity and searchability. Outside of those small notes, this place is a winner. I'll definitely be ordering again. read more

VERY GOOD SUSHI and fried rice!! fam got the calamari (banger), spider roll and level up roll and a couple makis. we also got chicken Malaysian fried rice. everything was very good and presentation was 10/10, definitely recommend if you are craving sushi in the richmond area read more
Amazing first experience, calm music, excellent service, and delicious fresh fish. Definitely try the Peking rolls and the Level Sashimi Roll. I'm always looking for low carb options at restaurants, and this roll doesn't have rice. I can't wait to come back on a Wednesday for 1/2 off their weekly roll. read more

To go sushi spot in Richmond! Love the weekly specials we usually come Thursday's to get 50% off a bottle of plum wine during dinner such a good deal. Came for my birthday - they do a tempura ice cream dessert on the house! Service is always good and ambiance is nice chill never too loud music they play is good too :) read more

The food here is amazing and the staff is always very pleasant. If you're a fan of sushi, this place should be on your list. Must-try items are the dumplings appetizer and sea bass entree. read more

LEVEL has been one of my favorite sushi spots for a couple of years now, but I realized I've never reviewed it! LEVEL is right off of busy W Broad, but in an unsuspecting building with a marquee! The inside is pretty large with booths, full bar, and sushi bar. The bar is a fun treat because it has LED lights that respond to touch or pressure! The sushi quality here is fresh and the chefs prepare rolls, sashimi, and sushi with care. Whenever I visit, I typically order the Love Boat because it is the perfect portion to share with another sushi lover. The presentation is beautiful and comes out on an actual wooden boat. This is one of the only sushi boats that comes with fish in the rolls too; usually other places have the California roll as the filler. At $75, you get a large portion of chef select fishes, miso soup, and ginger salad for your sharing party. I also tried the jalapeño poppers appetizer for the first time on this visit, and they absolutely stole the show! This appetizer was delicious and not overly spicy. Came with for fresh jalapeño slices topped with cream cheese, spicy tuna mixture, and panko-fried together in the perfect bite! This will be a must have addition to my order from now on. read more

I decided on this spot because I wanted to get some sushi and one of my coworkers had mentioned that he went with his girl there for one evening and how the food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and the cocktails were a must. Sadly...I came here during lunch so I couldn't try one of their cocktails. But that's okay! We had plenty to choose from on their menu. I know that I said that I was craving for some sushi that day, but they had some pretty awesome lunch specials. I decided on their Duck bao and an appetizer while I figured out what I actually wanted. I had actually gone back and forth on three of their choices but ended up going with the Steak Hibachi (lunch box). For a great deal, I got "Served w. Fried Rice, Miso Soup, Salad, 4 pcs California Roll & Steamed Dumpling". The picture pretty much says it all. Overall, the food was delicious and came out in a timely manner, the atmosphere is beautiful, and the staffs were friendly. I will be coming back for lunch again! (They have some pretty good happy hour deals, I just need to find out when I can actually try it...) read more

Level has my absolute favorite takeout in RVA! They package everything impeccably well, and our order is always correct. The hot food stays hot and is packaged separately from our cold sushi. The sushi is fresh and delicious, and the specialty rolls are fun and also tasty! Level's appetizers are fantastic, and the noodles are great too. My only complaint is we miss the lamb lollipops and wish they'd put them back on the menu! read more

Perhaps the food is better in the restaurant, but takeout was an extreme disappointment. The food quality was very poor, especially for how expensive it is. I won't be ordering from here again. I was having a celebratory dinner in, and ordered a shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll, and chicken pad Thai for $40. The shrimp tempura roll was incredibly soggy from being drenched with eel sauce, not wrapped tightly enough so that it fell apart when moved, and tiny. It was sliced so thinly that the entire roll must have only been about three inches long and had only two small shrimp. All it tasted of was the sauce. The spicy tuna was fine, better with the spicy mayo I had to purchase on the side. But honestly Kroger has better spicy tuna rolls. The pad thai was terrible. I had planned on saving it for lunch tomorrow but wanted to try it while it was still hot and presumably fresh. It looked so promising and I've never had a bad pad thai before this. The noodles were really strange, maybe over cooked, and flavorless. I questioned whether they were rice noodles at all. The chicken was truly terrible and squishy; I couldn't bring myself to eat it. After picking around the chicken for a few mouthfuls I gave up and threw it away. I give two stars instead of only one because the delivery was on time and the worker was nice. read more

After trying many sushi places in RVA (Akida, Osaka, Lucky AF, Carytown Sushi, etc.), I tried for the first time LEVEL Sushi and Asian Fusion. I was extremely impressed with the quality of their fish; extremely fresh and rather plenteous slices of sashimi (and it was a Sunday evening!). The menu is large and contains sushi/sashimi, hibachi, various Asian apps, other kitchen items, along with wonderful desserts like fried ice cream and tempura (fried) Oreos! The cool and laid back atmosphere inside belies the rather nondescript exterior. The servers were great; very welcoming and efficient. For me, I enjoyed my dining experience at LEVEL as much if not more than some of the other players in RVA. If you have not tried LEVEL, I encourage you to do so soon! read more

The restaurant was not very busy that day, but the server was very attentive and brought water right away. My drink was served in a metal martini glass and it was so much better as it stayed cold throughout the meal. Presentation of the sushi and sashimi was beautiful, with flowers and lit plates. Avocado was huge! read more
The food at Level is very good. We got the shrimp Lo Mein and some sushi rolls and loved both. The interior for the restaurant is really nice which is a stark contrast to the outside. So don't let the outside appearance fool you, it's a nice place. The only reason I'm giving it three stars instead of four is because of that terrible old fashioned. You'd probably be better off with the cocktails on their list or just do like my wife did and have wine. read more
