I decided to try this spot while ordering from home because one of my usual go-to restaurants was closed. I've now ordered three separate times, and I think that says everything. The food is consistently great. The quality of the sushi feels noticeably higher than several other places I've tried. I ordered the Level King Roll, Angel Roll, and Godzilla Roll, and one of them has officially earned favorite status. I believe it's the Level King Roll. Fresh, flavorful, and well put together. I do have two pieces of constructive feedback for both the business and future customers. First, some rolls are advertised as spicy, but the heat isn't really there. If you're expecting spice, you may want to ask for extra. Second, the business name appears differently across platforms, sometimes as "Level Restaurant and Bar" and other times as "Level Sushi and Bar." A little consistency there would help with clarity and searchability. Outside of those small notes, this place is a winner. I'll definitely be ordering again. read more

Service was a little slow but she was very apologetic. It truly wasn't her fault the other employees just kept pulling her in every direction so we understood. Now for the food. The hibachi was very flavorful especially the chicken. We could go without the steak next time but that it wasn't good just not as great and tender as the chicken. The custom roll was delicious and the Be mine roll was super cute. It came in the shape of individual hearts, A lot for one bite but pretty tasty. If I were to include only the food in the rating, 5 enthusiastic stars. Taste and quality seemed excellent. Really good cuts of nigiri. The bao was open like tacos rather than sealed like usual dim sum but delish. Wontons were crispy and flavorful. I do take off a point for ambiance and pricing. Prices seemed higher than expected for the quantities provided. Still, I ordered and I ate so the value was obviously there for me. But pricing would be 3 out of 5. Setting: The dining room itself was fine. Tables and booths, a long bar with bottles displayed in a way that they could not be missed -- this is a place that wants to sell drinks. I am not sure I would want to be here in full-swing happy hour. Bathrooms: Dark walls with 3 light fixtures in the men's room, two not working and one using low wattage bulb. VERY dark. To be delicate, there is insufficient light for the task at hand. Lest it be merely ill-timed bulbs, I asked wife about the ladies room. Same issue. Owners, don't be cheap put in some more light bulbs FFS. From our table I could see up the stairway to the second floor, which maybe used to be a dining area. Boxes and boxes of inventory stacked high at the top of the stair. Looking further, there were stored inventory items above the railing on the balcony overlooking the bar. I thought it was all dead space until a child emerged and came downstairs, obviously biding time up there while relatives worked. I hope there is sufficient room for fire egress should the need arise. Setting 1.5 out of 5. So okay. 4 out of 5 because I cannot figure out how to weight all this. One of the best sushi restaurants in Richmond - always fresh and the service is always friendly. I went for my birthday on a Saturday before lunch ended. I have always gotten really good service at Level no matter how busy they are. The best way I can describe it is warm and welcoming. We randomly stumbled this restaurant and glad we found it. We were there with a baby and a stroller. Wasn't too loud or crowded, which is great for our circumstance. We were able to get a table in the corner to fit the stroller. Staff was very accommodating. Loved have there was a good mix of different Asian foods for everyone's preference. My order was ready very quickly and nicely put together in the to go bag as to not let anything spill. They packaged the soups separate from my cold sushi which I appreciated. This was my first time inside and it was super nice! The bar has these cool lights on it's surface that light up when you rest your arm on it. I want to come back to dine in some time. I got the live tree, spicy maki combo which came with a ginger salad and miso soup, another miso soup, and a mango madness roll. The live tree was like nothing I've ever had before. It was "Salmon, yellowtail, tuna, crabmeat, vocado & ikura wrapped in cucumber in ponzu sauce" I really enjoyed the variety of seafood in it and the fresh/crisp cucumber wrap. The spicy maki combo came with " Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail." It was a great dinner deal! The miso soup was flavorful, sushi was fresh, and there was plenty of protein in every roll. I went here after I saw the Yelp Coupon, but unfortunately they haven't honored that since the pandemic. So don't bother trying with that. I wish I knew that ahead of time as I wouldn't have got quite as much stuff lol. Overall, it was still pretty good though. We got the appetizer similar to Crab Rangoons, I liked it but the ration of mix to the outside layer wasn't proportionate. The honey chicken was very good. If I were going to return, I'd come back to get it as a lunch special. The pad Thai was ok- I've definitely had better. I felt it lacked flavor & called for more sauce. I've been craving sushi but the last few places I've tried are either overpriced, low quality or just generally disappointing. 1. The ambiance indoors was nice! It would be a good place for nice dinner or even a place to grab dessert at night. It looks like it's closed, but it's not. The door is also super hard to open. There is a step up to get in so plan ahead if you have trouble getting up steps. When you put something on the bar, the table lights up which is pretty cool. 2. Went in soon after they opened on a Saturday. As other reviews have said, the restaurant looked closed but it was not! We were literally the only customers for our entire visit. Servers were very nice as a result, and let us take our time enjoying a really fun variety of sushi. I highly recommend you take advantage of their times with lower traffic, because we were well taken care of and it was such a surprisingly sleek and calm environment to enjoy lunch. One thing: the door is on Broad Street, and there is no parking specific to this restaurant. We parked in the neighborhood a couple blocks south and then walked for maybe two minutes, so it wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed everything about this place. Would go back! read more

LEVEL has been one of my favorite sushi spots for a couple of years now, but I realized I've never reviewed it! LEVEL is right off of busy W Broad, but in an unsuspecting building with a marquee! The inside is pretty large with booths, full bar, and sushi bar. The bar is a fun treat because it has LED lights that respond to touch or pressure! The sushi quality here is fresh and the chefs prepare rolls, sashimi, and sushi with care. Whenever I visit, I typically order the Love Boat because it is the perfect portion to share with another sushi lover. The presentation is beautiful and comes out on an actual wooden boat. This is one of the only sushi boats that comes with fish in the rolls too; usually other places have the California roll as the filler. At $75, you get a large portion of chef select fishes, miso soup, and ginger salad for your sharing party. I also tried the jalapeño poppers appetizer for the first time on this visit, and they absolutely stole the show! This appetizer was delicious and not overly spicy. Came with for fresh jalapeño slices topped with cream cheese, spicy tuna mixture, and panko-fried together in the perfect bite! This will be a must have addition to my order from now on. read more

Perhaps the food is better in the restaurant, but takeout was an extreme disappointment. The food quality was very poor, especially for how expensive it is. I won't be ordering from here again. I was having a celebratory dinner in, and ordered a shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll, and chicken pad Thai for $40. The shrimp tempura roll was incredibly soggy from being drenched with eel sauce, not wrapped tightly enough so that it fell apart when moved, and tiny. It was sliced so thinly that the entire roll must have only been about three inches long and had only two small shrimp. All it tasted of was the sauce. The spicy tuna was fine, better with the spicy mayo I had to purchase on the side. But honestly Kroger has better spicy tuna rolls. The pad thai was terrible. I had planned on saving it for lunch tomorrow but wanted to try it while it was still hot and presumably fresh. It looked so promising and I've never had a bad pad thai before this. The noodles were really strange, maybe over cooked, and flavorless. I questioned whether they were rice noodles at all. The chicken was truly terrible and squishy; I couldn't bring myself to eat it. After picking around the chicken for a few mouthfuls I gave up and threw it away. I give two stars instead of only one because the delivery was on time and the worker was nice. read more

After trying many sushi places in RVA (Akida, Osaka, Lucky AF, Carytown Sushi, etc.), I tried for the first time LEVEL Sushi and Asian Fusion. I was extremely impressed with the quality of their fish; extremely fresh and rather plenteous slices of sashimi (and it was a Sunday evening!). The menu is large and contains sushi/sashimi, hibachi, various Asian apps, other kitchen items, along with wonderful desserts like fried ice cream and tempura (fried) Oreos! The cool and laid back atmosphere inside belies the rather nondescript exterior. The servers were great; very welcoming and efficient. For me, I enjoyed my dining experience at LEVEL as much if not more than some of the other players in RVA. If you have not tried LEVEL, I encourage you to do so soon! read more
