I went here with my friends on vacation and it was such an amazing experience! The waitress was very kind and social, and even when I wasn't sure what to order, we had a good banter that made me feel comfortable. The ambiance was great, I loved the decor and the lighting. Cute little sushi place in Shockoe with way better sushi than sushi king or any place like that. Their food is excellent and quick. Kind of a quirky place on the inside but cute. Great for a date or dinner with friends where you can talk. Their appetizers are amazing too. My personal favorite are the pork gyoza, coconut shrimp roll, rainbow roll, rising sun roll, beaver roll. Miyabi used to be my favorite spot in Richmond for sushi. I'm not sure what happened in recent years (could just be their takeout vs in person food), but the quality isn't as good as I remember. I love their beaver roll and dragon roll. I think you need to dine in for the sushi to be good. My recent trips have been takeout and weren't as good as I remember. The service here is good. The space is a bit dark, but if you're by a window it's good. It's in a convenient location, not too far from the bus. I haven't gotten their seaweed salad in a while, but remember liking it in the past. My recent "visits" were delivery and then pickup. Delicious! We had sushi and hibachi and both were large portions and felt authentic. This is small spot on East Main Street in Richmond and I would definitely recommend. They have great lunch specials on sushi as well. We got a crab tempura appetizer that was fresh and crisp. The ginger dressing on the house salads was some of best we've ever had. My parter got one of the deluxe sushi entrees and found it filling. My chicken hibachi was plentiful and I was actually able to have left overs for lunch for two days! About once a week I treat myself to a carry out for lunch. For whatever reason, the last two or three times I have done this have been disappointing. Today I decided to do a little research to ensure that my once a week treat would be some thing that I would not have eaters remorse over! I finally hit a homerun! Miyobi Sushi is a very small storefront restaurant in the Shockoe bottom part of Richmond. I ordered the teriyaki lunch box that came with the usual sides that you would expect at a Japanese carry out. It had a sushi roll, an appetizer, a salad, and I added a couple of miso soup. I went in and after waiting just a couple of moments the bag was given to me. As I carried it out to my car I thought to myself "holy cow this is heavy. I am going to be very full today." I bought back to my office and sat down to eat. Everything was really really good. The teriyaki was delicious, the sushi was fresh although could've used a little work in the construction, the rice and go shumai were delicious, and the miso soup was spot on. I am so stuffed right now that I honestly want to take a nap! It looked as if they were following Covid protocols for those that were eating in the restaurant and the staff was masked. Right off Main St, this sushi spot was a delightful little treat for our Friday afternoon. When we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised with the decor. It was around 4pm on a Friday and they place was empty but the chefs were all busy making sushi rolls. I guess they had a lot of to-go orders which is understandable being in a college town. Like I said before, I liked the ambiance of the place and we sat up front by the window which gave us a great view of the street life. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the crab rangoon which came out hot, the perfect temperature! I forgot how much I liked crab rangoon but theses helped me remember. They were so delicious. I also order the chicken fried rice for my daughter and tried it myself and I wanted to eat all her food, it was so good. The sauce was some of the best fried rice sauce I've ever had. We also ordered 3 sushi rolls but I dont remember the names. I just know they were #s 28, 29, and 32 on the menu. They all taste very fresh which is important with sushi. For an appetizer we had the tempura basket and the coating was way too thick and just not tempura, it was closer to a heavy breading than a light batter. We had several rolls, all of which were really bland and didn't taste fresh. The sushi rice tasted like plain rice without any type of rice vinegar, the sashimi on top was mushy and flavorless, and the whole meal was just really disappointing. Interior has a really nice ambience and most of the staff were very kind. We ordered crab rangoons to share with the table but on the way out, the food runner tipped the plate and one of them fell. Instead of apologizing she said something along the lines of "I just committed the most heinous crime" or something like that so we were like ??? But it was totally fine since she brought a new order out. What annoyed me was that we ordered two servings of the tempura UDON emphasis on the udon which is a noodle broth dish. Tell me why she brings the bowls out without the noodles? and when we asked her if this was a special udon dish that didn't come with noodles she says "I don't know..." and then proceeds to stand there and look at us. so after a few uncomfortable seconds we asked her to go check which she then proceeds to come back out saying "our silly chef messed up your order" and our noodles came out soggy on a plate which we then had to pour into our broth. It doesn't really make sense that she doesn't know udon is supposed to come with noodle regardless if it was the chefs fault. Either way, it was a very mediocre experience and for the price you pay, you can find someplace better read more

I've only gotten take-out from here (can't comment on dine-in experience), but their sushi doesn't disappoint when I have cravings. I only order the Maki Lunch Special (either 2 rolls or 3 rolls depending on my mood). It comes with a salad, miso soup, and any 2 classic rolls (good price for $9.95 and $12.95, respectively). The sushi's pretty standard and average, but I never had a problem here. I might consider trying out the special lunch boxes for $10.95 next time, since it comes with rice, salad, miso soup, California roll, appetizer, and choice of entree. read more

This is my favorite sushi spot in Richmond! For appetizer the crab don is amazing. Definitely expect a kick though with the jalapeño they put a strip of jalapeño with the crab and cream cheese.
