I walked in confident. Hungry. Delusional. I walked out humbled... and slightly monitored. First off, the deal sounds amazing--$29.99 all-you-can-eat sushi? Say less. I immediately started ordering like I was preparing for a competitive eating documentary. "Yeah I'll take the Rainbow, the Volcano, the Godzilla, the Spider Man, the Yoshi, the Jurassic, the Ocean Star, the Dragon, the Red Dragon, and emotionally... I'm not okay." Food starts coming out and I realize two things: 1. Everything is actually really good 2. I have made a terrible, irreversible decision The Volcano Roll? Erupting with flavor. The Godzilla Roll? Destroyed my self-control. The Spider Man Roll? Saved me from ordering even worse things... barely. And the Crazy Roll? Accurate name because at this point I've lost all sense of reality. BUT HERE'S THE THING... Yoshi doesn't play games. You see that tiny line on the menu? "Please do not waste food... additional charges will be applied." Oh, they mean that. This is not a suggestion. This is a warning from people who have seen things. Halfway through, I'm slowing down. The table is full. My spirit is fading. And suddenly... I feel it. Eyes on me. Not aggressive. Not obvious. Just... aware. Like the sushi itself is watching to see if I finish it. At one point I considered hiding a roll in my pocket like a criminal, but I'm pretty sure they would've sensed it immediately and charged me emotionally AND financially. Pro tip: Order in rounds. Do NOT let your ego order for you. Your stomach cannot cash the checks your confidence is writing. Also shoutout to: Purple rice option - didn't know I needed it, now I'm questioning regular rice entirely Appetizers - gyoza and tempura came in hot like they knew I was about to overdo it Service - fast, efficient, and quietly keeping track of your life choices By the end, I finished everything on my plate out of pure respect and mild fear. We were really excited about coming here as it was highly recommended by a friend. Sadly, our experience didn't even happen. Our server was exceptionally rude. He greeted us with a poor attitude. This was my first time here and he seemed upset immediately when I asked him to explain how the lunch menu works. I think he wanted us to get all you can eat and my 10-year-old and I were interested in a la cart options. I had a hard time understanding him. I think he thought i was being funny but there was music playing and i have a hearing challenge. He said it was all you can eat for one price but if there are leftovers, they'll charge us extra. I asked him to explain what he meant by leftover. He was infuriated. He was so rude. He was literally huffing and puffing. I asked him why he was so angry? He told us we could leave and tell the manager. He didn't care. All of this because I could not understand him initially because of a hearing issue, and asked him to explain what he meant. This is hands down one of my favorite sushi spots, and I come here regularly -- not just for the food, but for the experience. First, I have to shout out Carrie, my absolute favorite waiter. He is truly one of a kind. His personality is amazing, he's incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely cares about both customers and staff. He's always doing thoughtful things -- even giving little gifts to coworkers and guests -- which says so much about the kind of person he is. Every visit is better because of him. That said, every single staff member here is wonderful. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Even when the restaurant is super busy and packed, it somehow never feels chaotic or rushed -- which I really appreciate. The seating is another huge plus. The tables are large, the booths are super comfortable, and most of the seating options are booths (which I personally love). There's also a full bar, and the drinks are really good. The food? Always fresh and made to order. The all-you-can-eat deal is amazing and absolutely worth it. Some of my favorites: * Imperial rolls * Dragon roll * Pork gyoza * Cheesy wontons * Fried rice And this might sound silly -- but above all else -- their chicken nuggets are UNMATCHED. Truly. AYCE is $20 Mon-Fri from 11-3, otherwise it's $28. There are some items that aren't included in the AYCE and are noted on the menu. They have purple rice available by request, which they say is a crossbreed rice considered to be a superfood due to its higher nutrient content and digestibility. The sushi was okay - not bad but also nothing to brag home about. The sushi rice on the wrap was super thick in patches and skinny in others and way too much rice in general. Not enough filling in the rolls and they are not cheap. I guess they focus on the all you can eat so make a lot of rolls in advance or in a hurry and it shows. I make sushi rolls better. Could be a bit cleaner. The table was sticky and don't think the menus had been cleaned for a while. They just need to slow up and pay more attention to what they are serving and how the prepare it. Most of the Sushi was really good I personally liked fire in the hole and RVA. I didn't like red dragon or mamba out. Yoshi Sushi is an AYCE sushi and hibachi. Their lunch deal is $18.99 on weekdays and $25.99 for weekends or holidays. It's a very lovely interior with beautiful designs. It is very clean, and spacious. I was surprised there wasn't more customers. I made a reservation for lunch but that isn't necessary. It's an order a la carte for AYCE, so it's made fresh to order. I loved a lot of the appetizers, like the crab salad, seaweed salad, wonton with imitation crab meat, salmon. The edamame was a bit saltier, and the calamari was very crispy but ok. The sushi was good, I mainly order and eat on salmon, tuna and eel. It was very good! The hibachi is also so good!! They make their beef medium. It's very tasty and tender with a lot of garlic. The veggies are also made perfectly and so juicy. The beef fried rice has a good wok taste. You can just order the beef without anything else too!! The sushi was so good but overall, I give 4/5 stars for the slow service. We arrived around noon, and there weren't many customers during lunch yet it took the servers a very looong time to get us even just waters, or to bring us small plates, dipping sauce cups, extra chopsticks, etc. It also took a while before the food came out, but once it did, it was all at once. Extremely impressed with this AYCE sushi restaurant. We had an amazing server, I wish I remembered his name. He was so attentive and friendly. We ordered appetizers and a round of sushi all which came out very quickly. The amount of fish on the rolls blew mind compared to other AYCE sushi restaurants. Especially the hand rolls. My partner has an avocado allergy and they accommodated two rolls without the avocado which we really appreciated. The tempura shrimp inside the Jurassic roll was really tasty! It took many years of friends aghast, but I finally tried sushi for the first time here, at an AYCE sushi spot. Had I known ahead of time of that requirement, I would've gracefully bowed out. Alas, I was with a group of 6, so I was along for the ride. Fortunately, their menu offered various cooked options as well as part of the AYCE special, and my friends repeatedly assured me that their pricing was extremely reasonable. I tried a couple pieces of sushi -- the tuna and the omelet -- and that was plenty for me. I can assure you, it is not my thing. I don't like the texture at all. In addition, I had the miso soup (very good), beef hibachi, beef fried rice, the pork app, and the birthday cake ice cream cup. I did get confused ordering the hibachi, as our server asked what kind of rice I wanted and I somehow didn't realize it'd be an extra massive serving of fried rice -- I couldn't humanly finish it but fortunately they did not charge me for the extra rice. Our server repeatedly referred to himself as the "Asian Persuasion" (I don't know why) but he was on top of things. Steered me against the tofu skin sushi too, which, after seeing it, I was glad. Also tried the lychee martini (good) and the plum wine (nope). It's conveniently located in Willow Lawn. Service leaves a lot to be desired the first red flag is that they do not have a host/ess that stands at the host/ess stand, you awkwardly stand there until the manager (im guessing) finally looks at the door and decides to seat you. The waiter/ess that are running back and forth to process other tables checks at the register do not even acknowledge you and let you know that they will be with you. The waiter that actually served us was meh, he did his best, i'm guessing, as he did make sure that we were informed on what was included in the AYCE price and what was not. But we had to ask for straws, chopsticks, and was not even offered a refill on water. Food was meh, nothing to write home about, but i wanted to actually throw everything up upon looking up and realizing how many dead bugs was in the light above our table. I understand it's the food industry, if you knew exactly what was in every restaurants kitchen, you'd never want to eat out again. But the fact that they don't even care that customers can look up and see this is actually insane. As we were walking out and glancing at the other lights, they were like this as well, gross. Would avoid this place 100% unless you'd like some extra "protein" in your sushi. This is my go to place for sushi and bento lunches. Their prices are fair and reasonable and their interior is clean. Every service person is quite friendly and nice and will treat you with a smile. I haven't met one employee that was grumpy. This particular day, I went in for a Bento box lunch. I didn't realize how much food they give you and had to take half home! The food was steaming when I got it and the soup was hot. The box is so nice to have a neatly compartmentalized tray and it was a well balanced meal. I definitely keep this on my short list and have recommended it to several people, most of whom have come here on that recommendation and also were very pleased!! Talked a little at the hostess stand and found out it was all you can eat for 14.99 during lunch. Time from 11:00-3pm. Then they close And open back up at 4pm. They offer the same menu for dinner but of course it is a little more expensive. I ordered miso soup which I LOVE and theirs was delicious. I also ordered the house salad w/extra ginger dressing, very good. I ordered, 2 orders (4pieces) of tobiko/masago roll. 1 order (2 pieces) Shrimp tempura (appetizer) Which is literally just the fried shrimp as seen in photo. If you want shrimp tempura roll, you have to say shrimp tempura "roll" Which I forgot and I ended up with just shrimp. But it was still good. The tobiko/masago roll was yummy. Then I ordered vegetable hibachi, I guess I should have specified fried rice but this was good with added soy sauce. Overall a great experience. Worth every bit $14.99. Ambiance was great for me eating alone but I can totally see this as a nice place for a romantic date. Be careful though, while it's all you can eat, you will be charged a "waste charge" if you order food and don't eat it. lol they are not playing about wasting food and I can't blame them. After giving the restaurant an opportunity to make some changes after their "soft opening", I returned to see whether or not it had improved. To my surprise, this experience was totally different than my previous. We were seated immediately, and the host was attentive and noticed that our menus were dirty so he kindly went and wiped them off before giving it to us. A+! I had the same server as I did last time, and noticed major improvements. Our drinks were brought out almost immediately, and we placed our appetizers first and it came out in no time - same for our sushi rolls. Kerry was attentive and took away our dirty plates in a timely fashion. Asked for refills and made sure we were happy with the food/etc. I think we were in and our within an hour. I also wish they were more generous with their sauces or seasoned their meats a little more. -Jurassic - decent tempura shrimp (crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside) with spicy imitation crab meat on top -Yoshi - fried sushi with spicy shrimp and avocado inside.
