I travel for a living so I'm always looking for the spot that the locals go to eat and socialize. Today I found that spot in Richmond VA and it was awesome. I dont drink, but noticed that the drinks were reasonably priced and the bar was small but seemed like a great place to carry on a great local conversation with the friendly bartender. The food and atmosphere however is what interests me these days and I wasn't disappointed. Lots of long hair and tattoos and conversation about the local area and music. I had the Burger and fries that was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to get back to Richmond and try it again. Great job Cobra Cabana!!! read more

Wow there are a TON of beautiful women that come here! This is yet another 1800s or early 1900s bar with snakes everywhere! Snake sculptures and murals. A few TVs playing scary movies. The Fake Plissken Burger was delicious! If you didn't tell me it was vegan, I would have never guessed. It's way better than the frozen impossible burger patties from the store. I think they use ground impossible meat and make it smash burger style to get the crispy crust. So delicious... chef's kiss. Their fries were also excellent. Perfectly crispy on the outside. A bit on the salty side. The Cortez the Killer Salad was good but too spicy with the sliced jalepeno peppers, also the vegan chorizo was a little salty. The strange mac and cheese was vegan and decent but our least favorite out of everything. At least it wasn't too salty. The inside gives casual bar vibes. The cobra decor is fun. Great service! Lots of vegetarian and vegan options on their menu (as well as omnivorous selections) - way more than expected for a pub. I had the tofu banh mi, and wished I had someone to share it with, it was large. It came with a side of my choice, I chose the vegan mac & cheese, but didn't really enjoy that. I'm constantly on a quest for a really good vegan mac and cheese, but this wasn't it. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out at the bar for my lunch. The place has a great rock vibe. I've been there for a concert at night before, and it gets jam-packed with people. I would advise you to arrive early if you want to eat before a show. Cobra cabana is awesome, funky, and unique, but don't come here in your Sunday best expecting an Applebees experience. It is very divey, grungy, and kind of a metal vibe. They have a live concert stage out back. They play random old movies on VHS. There is cobra art all over the place. There is limited seating. It is basically a bar. All that being said, we loved it. The server came over almost immediately to take our drink order, the food came out alarmingly fast, and they kept checking in. The food was great. French fries were out of this world. We have a tofu hot chicken and regular hot chicken sandwich. Loved them both. Surprisingly, they have a ton of plant based options. The decor is super cool. Again, this is probably not a place for you if you are buttoned up and/or afraid of snakes. It has an edge to it. That edge is the charm though. Cobras everywhere!! Loved it. It is no secret that bars serve salty food so that their patrons drink more. They did not disappoint. I had a bit of a snafu with some of the other restaurants on my list to try not coming through for me, and this one I can't remember how I found out about. It is a bar with an outdoor yard. It has a definite hippie vibe, and while it is not exclusively vegetarian the menu is amply vegan-friendly. Ordering takeout was straightforwards and my food was handed to me in a timely fashion upon my arrival. What they call tofu "wings" are just breaded tofu, but I was pretty impressed by my spicy buffalo breaded tofu and the vegan ranch; a distinctively American flavor combination but never one that felt fake to me. Ordering a salad got me more dressing than I needed, and my greens and vegetables were mixed with some tortilla strips and serrano peppers, which packed a legitimate kick. Cobra Cabana continues to be one of my favorite got to places when I am up in Richmond. Still continues to be fabulous local spot. The ambiance alone is worth the trip. The place is decorated with a fantastic mix of cool posters, vintage stuff, and eclectic knick-knacks that give it a fun, cozy vibe that makes you feel right at home. The music perfectly matches the whole experience, making for an unforgettable time. The staff here is super friendly and genuinely helpful, and the food is just as amazing. I love that they have so many great vegetarian alternatives for each menu item. The tofu chicken wings and the tofu sandwich (especially in the XXX hot version!) are both delicious and flavorful. And don't even get me started on the french fries--they're perfectly yummy, especially with their vegan ranch. Everything is served up fast and fresh, and it's clear the kitchen takes pride in its work. This spot is highly recommended if you're visiting Richmond, especially since it's just minutes away from various concert venues and breweries. It's grown on me in the past couple of years.... the penny pincher in 2025 is well worth the $5 for a shot and a beer, the chicken sandwich was great and the Hen Shot First chicken itself was very thick and not too salty accompanied by a smokey bbq (one of the options). It always has a fat side of fries with the sandwich and it never lets me down when i'm craving one. Inside is always nice, decorations still similar keeping up the same vibes. greeted & seated on arrival First of all we all know a place in the cut usually has the best food. How did I miss this spot?! I was invited out to Cobra Cabana and was completely satisfied with my meal. Dinner was 10/10! On the walk-in they have outside seating in the front. We walked in and there is a decent space with regular seats and bar seating(we later found out they have seating outback). We were served waters immediately and had plenty of time to look over the menu. They have vegan options which was a plus for my friend. I ordered the Nashville Hot Hen Shot First which came with fries and a Modelo. Shot out to the cooks!! Hands down I thought I had a good sandwich until I had a GREAT SANDWICH. Man that Hot Hen was crispy and coated in the Nashville Hot dry seasoning tasting every bit of deliciousness with every bite. The fries were fresh and remained hot until the very end. They have a variety of beer and liquor. The parking is not my favorite being in the VCU area where there's limited parking. Luckily it was a Sunday and we found a park easily. I couldnt finish my Mac n cheese after I inhaled my Snake Plisken burger with fries. So I put it in a to go box. I put it on the roof of my van and forgot about it. If you have ever been to Gainesville, FL and have been to Loosey's, this is the Loosey's or RVA. Or maybe Loosey's is the Cobra Cobana of GNV. Either way, this place is really great. I like to go to a place where an old fart tatted and pierced metalhead Gen Xer like myself can hangout and feel at home. Oh, and the food! Fantastic bar food! I loved the Cortez the Killer salad!! What a perfect combo of arugula, cilantro and all that jazz. I got a side of the fried chicken which was super tasty with a crunchy batter. My husband really liked his burger. Not just liked it, he was impressed and said he would like to go again sometime which is remarkable for him, the homebody. They have a great beer selection as well as drink menu and their staff were great. I also like that they have plenty of vegan options as I have friends who are of that persuasion. But I'm here to share love for their Vintage Holiday Market: I adored checking out this vintage holiday market at Cobra Cabana! It was tented, had a mini fitting room, and tons of racks and things to check out. I had a blast at one particular clothing booth. Their prices were amazing (ranged from $12-36) and the vendor gave me a deal for purchasing three items. They had about ten vendors here. There was one booth dedicated to Garfield from memory. Other booths had super cute jewelry like mini ramen earrings and dagger necklaces. If I didn't have friends I was meeting up with after I could've easily spent over an hour here. I went here on a Saturday night around 8pm. I've heard great things about Cobra, so I took my visiting friends here to grab some dinner. Upon our arrival, there was a bouncer outside each entrance. They asked for ID, and let us know that 21+ starts at 10pm. In my group of four, we're all 21 except for one person. Once again, we were just planning on eating. When we decided to sit outside, we had to get ID'd again and the bouncer did not want to let us in, even though it wasn't 21+ hours yet and we explicitly said that the person in our party that was not 21 would only be eating. Luckily, they let us in. It was really inconvenient to go through the hassle of getting in, as it soured the mood a bit. Regardless, we ordered food and about two of us ordered alcoholic beverages. We were rightfully ID'd, but one of us tried ordering a second drink to which that person was followed by the bartender and proceeded to try to ID our entire group once again. Once again, it was not even 10pm. At that point we decided to quickly eat and head out. It was a shame because the food is great and worth all the hype! Came here with my family not knowing what to expect. It was definitely crowded for dinner on a weekend, but was didn't have to wait too long for a seat inside, there were also seats available out front. The vibe inside is definitely a younger crowd (my mom thought it was too grungy for her lol), but I felt there was a good variety of people in there. Food wise, I really really enjoyed my vegan lobster roll, I love when places get creative with their vegan/vegetarian options and this one was awesome! The max and cheese, however, was pretty disappointing. I had some fries from someone else's meal and they were really good. One complaint was that our server forgot about us toward the end and we had to chase down our check, but I tend to be forgiving when a place is that busy. read more

Stopped in for the first time on a first trip to Richmond, after a show at The National. We adored the outside and the interior decorations and art. We also loved that they have a huge menu with a variety of vegetarian/vegan options that you can order from late in the night after a concert/show. My husband got a regular burger and I enjoyed the Impossible burger with fries... unexpectedly great food! We also thought they had a good selection of beers and other drinks. Cobra Cabana was such a pleasant surprise! In all my looking for vegan / vegetarian-friendly spots in Richmond, I'd never heard Cobra Cabana until my partner took me here for an early birthday meal. To my surprise, this place can make mostly everything on its menu completely vegan! I loved this part the most. We tried the tofu wings with spicy Korean-style glaze, the loaded waffle fries, and the vegan mac & cheese. The tofu wings were delicious! Super crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, the spicy Korean gochujang-style glaze was lip-smackingly good. The mac & cheese was nothing amazing, but was decent for a vegan mac. The loaded fries though, stole the show. Piled with vegan chorizo, queso, salsa, jalapenos, sour cream, and more, these were super tasty and you couldn't tell the chorizo was vegan. Very filling and delicious! Smart idea to use waffle fries instead of regular, as the fries almost become like chips with a broader surface area for scooping. Great vibe and interior as well - lots of people at the bar grabbing drinks and hanging out. Overall definitely recommend Cobra Cabana, especially for plant-based eaters. read more
