We will always come back to that place. One of the BEST experiences ever! Food is DELICIOUS! Service is OUTSTANDING!!! Ambiance is the best!!!

Coq Au Morocco

EAT HERE!!! Wow. I have eaten at some amazing establishments in the world but this has to be one of my favorite dining experiences! The atmosphere is so vibrant and truly something you must experience for yourself. I could try to describe it to you, but no words could really portray it properly. In the most positive sense, you feel like you're in a Parisian Funhouse fever dream and it is so freaking awesome. The staff were amazing and so kind I was solo traveling for work and they got me a seat right up at the bar. The bartender was great and gave many suggestions for cocktails and even let me have a sample of a cocktail that I was considering I ended up getting the Italian porn star cocktail(holy *** you need to get this!) For food I got the daily special croquets for an appetizer , the coq au Morocco for my main, and the daily special flan with lemon curd for dessert. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. Savory and acidity, sweet, and crunchy and creamy. All dishes were so well balanced I only wish I lived in Richmond so I could come back again and again! Also bonus points the dish ware was all STUNNING and so unique.

A masterful blend of French elegance + American creativity. Its dark and moody decor set the tone for your dining experience. There are seasonal dishes and staples that remain. We ordered two cocktails, not on the menu. The escargot (in a sweet garlic sauce) and fabergé egg (bedazzled with caviar, lobster and cured salmon) was a must to start. I can't remember the name of the soup du jour but it was creamy and finished with pine nuts. Coq Au Morocco was a tender cut of chicken seasoned with cinnamon and Moroccan herbs. The fish entrée was salmon + trout and lovely ribbons of beet in between. Susan was attentive and knowledgeable about each of the dishes.

We visited for our anniversary. The hostess was very welcoming and wished us happy anniversary right away. We thankfully were seated at a booth which was lovely and we really preferred it rather than the row of tables down the middle. Our server was great and gave us a rose prosecco to celebrate. We started with the grilled Caesar which was excellent. I would love to try to recreate this at home because it was so good! For our main dish, my husband had the Morrocan chicken dish which had layers of flavor and was delicious. I had the fillet which was one of the best I have ever had. From the ambiance to the drinks to the food this was my favorite meal I have had in Richmond. It is worth the hype!

I finally went here for the first time for my birthday! (I had to make reservations 3 months out and the earliest was 8pm). My BF ordered wine and I got a smokey tequila cocktail that was delicious. For appetizers we got the steak & tomato tartare. That was my favorite of the night! They also give you one slice of free bread and butter but they come around frequently asking if you want more. For entrees, we both ordered the beef swellington medium rare. The temperature came out perfect. The dish was good but it was REALLY salty. My BF's dish was overly salty as well. Other than that everything was great. It's also a very dark restaurant, so if you're not a fan of those don't come here. The ambiance is really eclectic too, random pictures and statues. Overall I want to come back to try the other appetizers and possibly another entree.

We came here for our 10th anniversary...we had the escargot--which was fabulous--a bottle of wine, and ordered the Quail and Lamb Belly for entrees. For dessert we had some chocolate thing recommende that was excellent and something like an elevated apple pie which was also excellent. The vibe was cool w the music playing, and such an eclectic atmosphere. Service was outstanding at the bar. It's hard to get a reservation so plan more than a month in advance. 5 stars!

L'Opossum is one of the best restaurants in Richmond, if not the best. The service is always fantastic and our waitress, Anja, was lovely :-). She made great recommendations! We had the venison carpaccio (special), beef swellington (this is a MUST and always on the menu), the Moroccan chicken (special), and two desserts (one of them was a coffee flan with lemon curd and the other a kouign-amann that was sooooooo heavenly. Everything was seasoned well, came out hot (besides carpaccio & flan, of course), and full of flavor. I can always count on an amazing experience and it's always consistently mind-blowing. I also just love the eclectic and Wes Anderson-eqsue vibes of the restaurant. The complexity of flavors, the nuances, etc. is an experience in itself. If you haven't been, make your reservation ASAP!

Without a doubt, one of the greatest restaurants in Richmond. The ambience./decor is next level it will inspire and entice your dining experience by far. Excellent service from the staff with information and suggestions about the menu. The food is visually and exceptionally well crafted unlike I've ever seen. I finish my review of L'Opossum with the words L'Awesome!!!!

It took me far too long to eat at L'Opossum, but glad I finally made it! My husband and I had taken the day off to go sailing, but the weather was a washout so we had to pivot to a new plan. I had watched L'Opossum but getting a reservation is nearly impossible, but lo and behold, I found one on a Wednesday night and snagged it. We decided to have dinner here then visit the Virginia History Museum to see the Julia Child exhibit the next day. Turns out David Shannon was featured in the exhibit...guess it was meant to be. We were on our way for our reservation and received a text that our seats were ready. We had 2 bar seats, which I loved. Our bartender Jonathan was wonderful, helped us make good decisions and made great cocktails to boot. For drinks we got the Inner Saboteur (I might have the name wrong)...it was a tequila-based drink with peppers and cilantro infused. So good. My husband got their version of an old fashioned and he really enjoyed it. For appetizers they had a cucumber and almond gazpacho (I'm a super fan of gazpacho so I had to try it), the venison carpaccio and the beef tartare. The gazpacho was amazing! The other appetizers were awesome too, but that gazpacho...mmmmmm. For entrees we got the filet and lamb belly. They had some really tasty sounding specials and I was thinking about fish, but Jonathan said since it was my first time I should try a classic. Glad I did! It was wonderful. I ended up bringing some home and it was awesome heated up the next day. We didn't make it to dessert, but I love devils food cake and regret not getting it...Next time. The irony is that the next day as we were visiting the Julia Child exhibit we saw David Shannon featured in a section about Virginia chefs. He deserves the recognition. He's created a quirky, unique, fun and delectable restaurant that I will most definitely visit again soon.

Where to start? Lovely and charming small restaurant, where everything was done so well. Service, music, lighting, decor, FOOD; everything was perfect! I had the Rock fish special and it was perfectly seasoned; I love a restaurant that brings me fish with a delectable, crispy skin. My hubbies filet was cooked to perfection as well. Our wait person gave excellent suggestions. I think the cocktail I had was the most inventive and delicious one I've ever had. We both had apps, him the dips and me the Faberge eggs. Lovely flavor profiles and, again, inventive combinations. I love soups but decided on the eggs instead. May have to go back soon just for a soup try. Our desserts were a delight as well but I think I chose the winner with the frangelico (flan? Cream brûlée without brûlée?) topped with a dollop of lemon curd!Husband is not a foodie and hates to spend big bucks but I warned him several times that it wasn't inexpensive and that he had to suck it up. A truly lovely dining experience!

Lamb Roulade with Choux Dumplings

If you've never been to L'Opposum you really need to make the trip, all of us were saying this place is definitely one of the best in RVA as far as variety of dishes and deliciousness. I can tell you that everything in the pictures were eaten with zero crumbs left by any of us. It was an amazing meal... from Leek Soup, Caesar Salad, Escargots with Ham biscuit, Halibut, Beef Swellington, Stuffed Quail Cajun style, Lamb Roulade with Choux Dumplings w/ truffle service, that is a first for me, and OMG this Mint Ice Cream pie with a coffee chocolate crust, amazing! Make a visit you won't be disappointed!

This restaurant is colorful and quirky, the definition of a classic Richmond restaurant. The French cuisine was a bit expensive, but was delicious and plated beautifully. Our hostess and server were very nice and timely, and the restroom was clean which is much appreciated. I will say proceed with caution to smaller places like this if you get overstimulated easily. It is dark in there, and it can get quite loud. But generally the atmosphere is nice. It's also highly recommended to make a reservation months in advance, as it fills up quickly on reasonable times.

We were first greeted by the most personable, young man that truly made us feel welcome. That's there motto "Welcome Home" His name is EJ. You will know it's him. This restaurant is a cute neighborhood landmark. It's a little small but not tight or uncomfortable with a full bar for additional seating. Because it has that old school I know this food is going to be FIRE, it's Perfect. Soooooo, the music certainly fits this cool old school vibe. The menu was under a very clean glass table topper to view and order. Very big Plus, Sanitary !!!!! I ordered the Fried Chicken (2pcs white), corn muffin comes with the meal, candied yams and cabbage. My plate was BEAUTIFUL, pictures will confirm. The chicken was golden brown, crispy on outside, flavorful and moist on the inside. YES, like my mom's use to be. The yams were perfectly sweet and the caaaabage was delicious. Go early to avoid the crowds, because everyone wants this good food and hospitality. Ooooh Lord, I forgot our extremely attentive server Dana. He checked in while being super busy with other customers, making sure the glasses were refilled in a timely manner. He also offered to go drinks, and very nice to go containers. This review is long because it's accurate and I need to share my experience. Last but not least, the owner came by and asked how was everything with her warm, down home hospitality. She also ask that we visit next door, Mama J's Market, so we did. It was sooo cool. I felt like I was in Greenwich Village NYC. If the restaurant is too busy for you, there in the market you can order from the kiosk and a staff member will bring it to you. There are refrigerated food and meal options to grab and go. Snacks, drinks, a little fresh produce, household and personal items. The Perfect Neighborhood Market. If you want the Old Historic Jackson Ward feeling of community, come to Mama J's Kitchen and Market. Thank you !!!!!!!

The menu has so many tempting options that it was hard to choose, but we both landed on the Hot Chicken Sandwich with cayenne butter--and we're glad we did. It had the perfect amount of heat: enough to bring some spice without overpowering the flavor. On the side, I ordered the green beans after our bartender/server highly recommended them. Normally, green beans wouldn't be my first choice, but they were seasoned perfectly and ended up being one of the biggest surprises of the meal. My partner chose the mac and cheese, which was the superior side (although both were excellent). The service was friendly, attentive, and genuine throughout the evening. Despite arriving on a Friday night without a reservation, we had no trouble getting a table. They only accept reservations for parties of 5-8, so I'm glad we decided to take our chances. One of my favorite parts of the evening was chatting with another guest at the bar. He and his wife shared several entrées with their young son, and they couldn't stop raving about the short ribs--which their son happily claimed for himself by the end of the meal! They also highly recommended the salmon, so we've already got ideas for our next visit. The only real downside has nothing to do with the restaurant itself: parking in Scott's Addition can be a challenge. I'd recommend allowing yourself some extra time to find a spot or, even better, taking a rideshare so you can start enjoying your evening right away. Lunch. Supper! has earned its reputation as a longtime Richmond favorite. Great food, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere make this an easy five-star recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

Only street parking is available, but it wasn't too difficult to find a spot. The atmosphere: Very rustic vibe with some farmhouse-style decor. They have table, high-top, bar, and patio seating available. The food: I opted for the Chicken and Waffles with a side of cheese grits. I chose to make it hot for more spice. It's served with one whole waffle, two large pieces of fried chicken, and syrup on the side. The chicken was not seasoned as much as I hoped and wasn't as spicy as I expected, which was a bummer. The cheese grits were alright as well, but not as flavorful as I hoped. My partner ordered the Double Barrel Bowl, and he really enjoyed it. It was packed with pulled pork and was plentiful and filling. The service: Great and kind service from Mave (I believe that is her name but I'm not entirely sure). She informed us about the daily specials and was attentive throughout our visit.

Someone suggested a place called Mama J's but after reading the summary of reviews I decided to see if there was another place. And I came across Southern Kitchen and boy was I glad that I did!! This black owned restaurant was an excellent experience for hubby and I!!! But let me back up,,.when searching for another spot online...the visual esthetics of the menu caught my attention first!! I saw a crisp clean menu in white, green and black. It was easy to read, had everything laid out and dunno...maybe it appealed to my OCD with how organized it was but I liked it! And then the FOOD on the menu I told hubby..."no debate! We are going to Southern Kitchen"!! When we arrived we pulled up at a mall...at first we thought we were at the wrong place but when we turned the corner and saw the black and white awning...I said THERE IT IS!!! Lol!! We walked in and my heart said aaaaahhhhhhh!!!' it was beautifully decorated in...you guessed it black, white and green!! It matched the online menu....so cool!! The staff was courteous! The food was exceptional! And the music was SUCH a vibe!!! They have a bar area with high top tables, they have a dining area with tables and booths. They can accommodate small and large parties. They have a HUGE kitchen and they are very well staffed so our food didn't take long to get to us. Hubby ordered meatloaf, Mac n cheese, cabbage and sweet potatoes. I ordered salmon patties, collard greens and black eyed peas. Our server Nigela was so sweet! She took very good care of us and even chatted with us and told us that her grandmother was from SC (where we are from) I would definitely recommend this spot! Food was 10 out of 10! The sweet tea was that good "diabetical" tea and we got a cornbread basket...the portions were enough for me to take half of my plate with me because I was FULL!' BRING YOUR WALLETS AND STRETCHY PANTS!…read more We went as a corporate outing group of 5. The front door is a little tight cause as a popular spot there's a bunch of foot traffic. The lady at the front door was a bit staticky but she got us sat fairly quickly so we could deal with that. Vibes are all wooden, but not creaky. Could be a cool date spot, it was very casual so we were able to be a bit boisterous. Good place to chat and blend in. Service was great and friendly and attentive. The waitress we had always made sure our cups were full and we had napkins and what we needed. We didn't get any alcohol, I got an Arnold Palmer, the wife got a midtown. They were both pretty good, I don't know what the difference was but they slapped. Free refills on sweet tea was dope too! The food came out pretty fast for the portions and quality. The wings are a must get, get the large and if you don't finish air fry them back home (reheat is good) (I would get sauce on the side, we did buffalo). We got like a desert style cornbread with syrup and powdered sugar, not normally my jams but totally delicious (my coworker ordered, I am not into sweets; still 10/10). I had 2 buffalo shrimp and they were also good, I didn't get a flick but that's a safe pick. The mains are pricey (typical soul food prices) but fire!!! Portions were good but the quality of goods and meat are awesome. I eat at a lot of places, the quality was really high here so I think the price tag was fair. My wife got the catfish, I got the stuffed salmon. For our sides we got the greens, cabbage, and the Mac & cheese. I had a couple of things I personally like that I feel would have enhanced the meal but the overall outlook is that this is the place to go. The greens were salty as heck and didn't have like a turkey neck or smoked anything in it, could be a regional preference but that was missing for me. The cabbage was also cooked really well and didn't require much but had no sparkle. Great texture but the flavor wasn't there, I'm also Caribbean so maybe what I like is different, the crunch with a kick would have gone far and maybe some salt from the greens in there. The Mac and cheese was good, I like a creamier one but this will suffice tbh. Overall I'm going to give them a 8.9/10. I could have gotten the wrong things or went on an off day but they certainly delivered and the service was GREAT. I would deff revisit, it's got a lot of charm and personality. The staff were amicable and the bathrooms were clean. I would recommend this spot if you're visiting Richmond!

Our server, LENA was very helpful and friendly. She made sure we knew what was what. She was Awesome. Okay now this FOOD! So much food and everything hot and fresh. You'll be tempted to order an appetizer. I observed the portions and decided I couldn't eat all that... in a week. Definitely getting the fried oysters next time though. The "Fish Boat" comes with 2, 3 or 4 pieces of whiting. It's fried and the onion and pepper "sauce" is a mustardy, vinegar concoction that compliments the fish perfectly. You have your choice of two sides. Typical southern specialties. Collard greens (no pork added) were delicious, with a little kick; Candied Yams and a BRICK OF CORNBREAD. Light, soft sweet cornbread... my goodness. I don't think I can do this food the proper justice it deserves in this review. The chicken strips; the Alfredo were just as good. Even their version of an Arnold Palmer, (The Uptown) was done right. It's worth the drive and definitely worth the calories. We landed on The Roosevelt, and I can confidently say it was one of the best meals I've had in Richmond. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, but we managed to snag two seats at the bar. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly and welcoming maître d', setting the tone for the evening. The bartenders were equally impressive eith one a true Chatty Cathy, the other more reserved, but both were masters of their craft, creating unique and distinctive cocktails with ease. We started with the cornbread and maple butter syrup. My only complaint? Can a girl get a little more butter? The cornbread itself was dense, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Next came a small plate of squash served over sweet potato hummus. This dish completely surprised me. The flavor profile reminded me of Haitian cuisine, meaning it was warm, layered, slightly sweet, and carrying just enough heat to keep things interesting. It was creative, distinctive, and honestly one of the highlights of the meal. For our entrées, Jackie chose the steelhead trout while I opted for the scallops served pescatarian-style with ramp clam chowder. Let me tell you something: this was the first time in my life that I genuinely enjoyed clam chowder. The scallops were perfectly prepared, and the chowder elevated the entire dish. Every bite was exceptional. Of course, we couldn't leave without dessert. We shared the chocolate chess pie, and it was everything you want in a chocolate dessert, a dense, fudgy, rich, and utterly decadent. It was so good that I went home, climbed into bed, and happily surrendered to a food coma. What stood out most was that The Roosevelt delivered on every level: hospitality, atmosphere, creativity, and execution. The meal was worth every dime, and I will absolutely be bringing visiting friends and family here in the future. For anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience in Richmond, The Roosevelt has earned a permanent spot on my recommendation list.

Each & every dish was a culinary creative canvas that enticed, tantalized & totally enthralled our palates. For my cocktail I ordered The Seersucker, which was made with my favorite bourbon Four Roses. The drink was velvety smooth & a soothing complement to my food. As our appetizers we ordered Cornbread, the BBQ Spiced Chicken Wings & the Chicken Fried Pig Ears. Everything was absolutely delightful. The pig ears were an especially nice surprise as they were melt in your mouth tender & full of flavor. There was a horseradish sauce accompanying the pig ears & the sauce was creamy & not overpowering with horseradish flavor[i don't even usually like horseradish but this dish truly gave me a new experience of that flavor]. I would definitely order the pig ears again. The Cornbread was cute & tasted like cornbread I grew up in the Country eating. I could eat a whole skillet of the cornbread. The chicken wings were tender & nicely seasoned. I really enjoyed the white BBQ that was drizzled over them. As our Entrees, we ordered 2 Catfish & 1 Flounder Catch of the Day. Both dishes were delicious. The fish was not overly seasoned, as I so often encountered with seafood dishes, both dishes allowed the diner to actually taste the depth & simplicity of the fish. Both dishes are also items I would order again. Our server was courteous, attentive & knowledgeable concerning menu item choices. When it was time for us to leave, as I think we stayed way past the dining allotment time, the hostess was very respectful in explaining to our table there was a reservation behind us. I appreciate that type of honesty & treatment in a dining facility. As mentioned so many times previously I will be returning to The Roosevelt. They have definitely made a fan out of me.

I pulled into the parking lot and this place has a unique setup. All the tables are outside similar to checkers. The place looks like it belongs in a dessert or South of the Boarder based on the color which is odd as well. They take your orders at the walk-up window. When I originally arrived, I didn't see much business but while I waited for my food the cars were pouring in left and right. My hopes for the food increased. There is a menu on the outside that is somewhat difficult to read and navigate. A ton of options with some whopping prices. I ended up ordering the 1 Snack and Fries. I wanted something good but also light as I had another place in Richmond I wanted to try. $14.99 seemed good until I saw this bogus, Local meals tax on top of the state sales tax. This caught me off guard. I ended up waiting in my car for about 20 minutes and later heard my name called over the microphone. The gentleman showed me the food, and it was 3 large pieces of fish. The fish was delicious. The fish was Cooked well, and I could taste the flavor. Way more than I expected. Tartar sauce elevated the flavor. The fires were piping hot and good as well. I wish I had some ketchup, but they were still good. I loved that they were salted but if I had high blood pressure I should have stayed away. You can see the salt on the fries. They were good to me. Overall if I were in Richmond again, I'd definitely stop. The food was good. I would definitely try more options. The customer service was good. The cashier and food distributor were on their A game. Outside could use some love and care but it is what it is.
