Well I'm kicking myself for not trying this place long ago. Today's visit was great. Walk-up window for placing orders. Friendly gentleman taking our order. Me and my bro both ordered the fish and shrimp combos. Mine came with fries and coleslaw, and he got Mac & cheese, fried okra, & cornbread. You get 4 filets and 4 medium/large shrimp. My fish was catfish (up charge) and he got the Whiting. The fish was fried perfectly. Well seasoned. The shrimp were a little lacking in size and less flavorful. Fries were great. My only critique is a bit pricey overall. I got two fountain drinks at $4 a piece. Two meals with a few add-on was $85 for lunch. Plus $8 for drinks.

I finally get to try this Richmond mainstay. There was a slight wait because everything is prepared fresh to order, but the food was tasty and lived up to my expectations. Everything was excellent; the personnel were really amiable and the service was respectable considering that everything is made to order. The atmosphere is wonderful. I appreciate that you can eat outside on the seats while still taking in the views of the downtown area.

Best fried fish in Richmond. I finally had the chance to try the catfish. Did not disappoint. Will forever be a fan of their cornbread. Still not crazy about the lines but hey, when the food is this good, you suck it up.

I recently visited Sugar's Crab Shack and finally got to try their food! The special combo of wings, popcorn shrimp, toast, and fries for only $19.19!! Along with the snack meal that came with 3 fried fish and buttered toast. I also got the mac and cheese, and bread pudding. Beware that the wait time does take a bit, the food took about half an hour to be ready. But the generous portions made it worth the wait. The workers were also very nice and you could tell how passionate they were about the food. The popcorn shrimp and fried fish were pretty good. But the mac and cheese could use a bit more flavor, I could mostly just taste cheese. But the fries--wow! They were super big, thick like wedges, and extra crispy, adding a great texture. The bread pudding was just okay since i'm not a huge fan of raisins, but overall, it tasted like French toast if you're into that. Despite the wait, my overall experience was great. You get a ton of food for an amazing price!

Friday 3/22/2024 This spot right here is a black owned restaurant that absolutely gets it RIGHT. I got the 2pc catfish special $10.75, snack & fries $11.85, and bread pudding $5. Both the fish and the catfish were very good and the tar tar sauce is a great sauce for it. I'm a fan of the fries as they were crispy and seasoned well. The bread pudding was a bit smaller than i expected and it comes with a lemon glaze icing on the side (which it didn't really need but that's just me). The bread pudding smelled amazing and it tasted pretty good as well. I 100% recommend this spot and I would definitely come back if I was ever in the area again.

Sugar's Shack was a great find! Great service and a unique spot. The fried fish was awesome with the homemade tartar sauce. We got the family portion which was too much for the 4 of us (two younger kids). Corn bread was amazing. Sweet potato pie and coconut cream pie was a highlight! Great French fries too!

Good food, good music, good customer service!

Yo! I'm hitting this spot EVERY TIME I touch down in Richmond! The servings are great and the price is reasonable. They're playing (some of) my favorite music from (one of) favorite stations. There's outdoor seating . The guys are all about great customer service. The call you over the loudspeaker & show you your order prior to hanging it over to you. I love seafood & music (give me a good, cold brew and it's a wrap). You guys are IT!!!

Well, first and foremost, hands down delicious! Now, I ordered at 447pm and got my food at 610pm. You will wait for your food. For me, today, it was 47 degrees outside, I feel they should have heaters to warm the area for those standing outside for long periods. The portions were generous, my coleslaw was placed in the bag, and the top was open sho it wasted everywhere. The wings and fries for my son, a dish I will never order again, definitely no bang for you buck for it (see the photo) The family fish pack will order that again feeds my family with leftovers available. They are a little pricey but have other options for your budget. Family meal $26.99 Wing dinner $9.99 Total $41.97 The power went out at the restaurant, too, creating additional wait time.

The decor and the ambiance are invigorating & soul soothing concurrently. On both occasions I ate in the upstairs dining area & I really enjoyed being able to look out their windows & observe the hustle & bustles of Broad Street while dining. The music that played in the background while we dined was the perfect aural companion to a down home Southern cuisine centered meal. As you know, I love when the music in the restaurant compliments the cuisine & Lillie Pearl's playlist is top notch. During our dining time, we ordered their Smoked Wings as our appetizer. The wings were perfectly seasoned & visually appealing. However, I found them to be a bit dry & overcooked for my taste. My dining companion, however, had no problem with the wings texture. She enjoyed them very much. For my main meal, I ordered their Wild Game Burger[a mixture of Waygu Beef, Bison & Wild Boar] with a side order of Fries. The burger was cooked perfectly. It was well seasoned & juicy. The fries were delicious. They were crispy and also perfectly seasoned. I could have eaten a whole plate of just the fries alone. I ordered a cocktail to complement my meal, the Sweetest Thing. It was bright, crisp & a perfect drink for my food. As for Customer Service, Our server was courteous & attentive & knowledgeable about any menu changes we needed to be aware of. Also of note for me was that I had a reservation I needed to change to an earlier time slot & the staff was able to accommodate my request expediently. I also appreciated the fact that they informed me in advance that they were still on the Lunch menu & not dinner as my initial reservations had requested. I find that type of honesty & transparency refreshing & is definitely one of the reasons I will ALWAYS be a loyal Lillie Pearl customer.

Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.

Dining at ISC is almost like having the pleasure of taking a mini beach vacation while still being able to stay close to home. The food & the drinks were delicious. I had their Mai Tai, which was very flavorful & visually pleasing to look at. My husband ordered the Painkiller & he said it was tasty & there was no skimping on the alcohol content of the drink. We shared an appetizer of their Wings, which were also flavorful, tender & juicy. My husband ordered the Coconut Shrimp[from the Appetizer menu] & French Fries as his entree & was very satisfied. Our entire meal was very filling. My husband rarely has leftovers, however, our food was so satisfying that on this visit he did have leftovers to take home. As my entree selection , I ordered their Pork Sandwich which came with a side order of fries. I really enjoyed the sauce on the pork & the pork itself was tasty & tender. We shared dessert, the Hula Ice Cream Pie & it was HUGE! It was also total yummy. A perfect combination of flavors & definitely a dessert that was meant to be shared. Throughout our dining experience, our server was courteous, attentive & helpful with menu options. Mains were subpar - ordered the pineapple shrimp boat in a pineapple which looked really appetizing but unfortunately this was a situation where the food looked better than it tasted. SO good, favorite spot of our Richmond trip!…read more My brother and I were looking for late night oysters. Sadly when we came in Wednesday night at 9 PM, we were told they were only serving drinks at that time. I emailed the restaurant and was informed that on most nights, they indeed close the kitchen and only serve drinks after 9 PM, but that on weekends they'll keep the kitchen open longer. I'm so glad we came back on our last day of the trip. It was a Thursday night at 7:45 PM and pretty full. Thankfully, there were some seats at the bar which we preferred anyways since you got to watch the oysters get shucked right in front of you. We ordered the bread service, and though it said house cultured butter OR whipped beef tallow, our kind server made sure to ask if we wanted one or both (the answer was both, of course!). We also got 4 Virginia oysters (appreciate not being forced to order in increments of 6 or 12), chargrilled oysters, and "dessert tonight" which ended up being the most perfect chocolate cake (I think it was describe as something else, but my memory fails me) with a white chocolate ganache-like topping and pistachios *swoon*. I tried the wine of the day which was an orange wine that it was a nice not-too-sweet, not too dry wine. I'd recommend it with a pasta or fish. Our server (didn't catch his name but he had a nice brown sweater and a beanie, receipt says Taylor so maybe that's his name?) was so nice! We got a popular app- the squid, white bean and arugula which was bright and flavorful so lived up to the hype but a little disappointing in that there was not a lot of squid so $18 for beans and arugula seemed a bit much. Also got the seafood bisque which was pretty tasty. For entrees we got the halibut, the monk fish fra diavolo and the spaghetti with crab meat. The spaghetti with crab meat was shockingly good. It better be for $40 but I don't always like crab bc it can be overly fishy in a not good way but this entree was very good. We also liked the halibut- nice piece of fish perfectly cooked. The MonkFish had a nice flavor, but the bones in it was a little bit overwhelming, and kinda made eating a lot of work. Seemed pricey to me since only one of us had a glass of wine and no other drinks, but I guess $50 a person sans cocktails and dessert is the new norm?!
