shrimp platter hush puppies & 2 piece of Lake Trout
Dakiesh C.

Still in love with this place.. We recently stopped by this place as i met up with one of my friends who is from hometown NJ.. she's a chef so I had to keep her mouth watering while she was in town. This is one of my top seafood spots in Richmond. She ordered the shrimp platter with hush puppies & 2 piece of lake trout "as pictured". She loved every bit of the food.

I kept driving past this crab house on JD thinking it was a place that sold seafood cooked food. I happened to look it up on Yelp and saw that they had ready made food (other than sea food) and it's a fish market. The two guys were kind and welcoming. I ordered ribs and sides then fried fish and sides. The ribs and fish were good. Cabbage and greens were surprisingly good. I didn't like the man n cheese or mushrooms. I'd go again and try different sides.

I'm always skeptical about trying local places on JD because I've had bad experiences, but I just keep trying and thanks goodness I did! Sam's is on point! Fish was fresh, fries homemade. I mean, I'm at a loss for words. Food: I ordered a combo of Whitting(3pc), fries, Texas toast and a homemade sweet tea. I wish my pockets and my waistline could afford me to eat here everyday! Hubby ordered a combo with ribs, Mac n cheese, greens and a sweet tea. He did say the Mac n cheese tasted like something store bought but it was still really good. Everything was great no complaints. Note: This is not a sit-in restaurant. You order to go. If you've driven by or wondered about them please go in and get you some of his good food; you'll thank yourself later.

I'm so in love with this place. Not only is the food soooooooo good. The service is just as great. The 2 guy's there are so friendly. I couldn't make my mind up what side I wanted, so he gave me a sample of every side! I literally wanted some of each to go!

If I lived in Richmond, Sam's would be my go to for seafood. We called Sam's to ask if they had crab, and they said to come in about an hour. When we are arrived, we also decided to order shrimp as they looked really good. They cooked everything for us upon order so the crab and shrimp were all very fresh. Both the crab and the shrimp were delicious. Sam's also has a variety of chicken and sides. I would definitely return for lunch or dinner and I highly recommend this spot. The service was excellent.

Fresh seafood, awesome prices and excellent staff. Food: This place offers a variety of different types of seafoods. Crabs, shrimps, fresh, oysters, crawfish, crab cakes and several other items. They can cook the food for you or you can grab the items fresh and take them home. Another thing worth mentioned is the soul food they offer as well. Mac and cheese, greens, potatoes, french fries, baked and fried chicken and corn bread. Location: It is located on jeff davis. Not an ideal location but it will do. The hours they are open are decent. Don't expect to come to place after hours. Lol Staff/Service: Each visit the staff is awesome and was very polite. Never had any issues at all. They answer any questions you have, offer suggestions and let you know what current specials they have for the day.

The parking lot is small, and there is a pothole in the alley near the parking lot entrance that will bottom out an SUV. Apparently, there is additional parking, but we didn't see it in the dark. The restaurant is cozy, Hawaiian-themed, and clean. We were seated within moments of entering the host's periphery, and received menus and ice water within minutes. I had the poke bowl last time, and I remember it being chilled and gently flavored. The avocado and spicy mayo did a lot of the heavy lifting. It was filling and very healthy. My partner enjoyed the Ipanema Sandwich last time we visited. This time around we snacked on the fried halloumi (fried cheese and mint yogurt dip) and Lumpia, taquito-type beef rolls, with sweet and sour dip. We absolutely demolished the coconut cream pie for dessert. The pie was so delicate and lovely that even my partner enjoyed it, a typical coconut detractor. I recommend Little Nickel to anyone looking to try something unique and ambitious that veers from the well-trodden culinary path. The staff here were courteous and helpful, the restaurant was clean, and the food was firing on all cylinders.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Riverside Tavern on Forest Hill Avenue…read more I ordered the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus to go for $23.00. When I opened the container, I was shocked to find that the salmon portion was barely larger than my finger. It looked more like a sample than an entrée. I have attached photos because words alone don't adequately capture how small it was. What makes this even more frustrating is that I have ordered this exact meal before while dining in with my family, and the salmon portion I received then was easily three times larger. So this isn't a case of unrealistic expectations--I know what this dish normally looks like. I called the restaurant to express my concern, hoping they would make it right. Instead, the bartender responded with, "The portions are cut how they are cut," as if that somehow justified charging full price for such a tiny piece of fish. When I asked to speak with the owner, I was told, "You won't be talking to the owner. I'll just give him your information." There was no apology, no offer to replace the meal, no effort to address my concern--just complete indifference. If portions have been reduced, customers should be informed before paying premium prices. If this was simply an inconsistent serving, then quality control is seriously lacking. Either way, charging $23 for what amounts to a nugget of salmon is unacceptable. I used to enjoy Riverside Tavern and specifically ordered this meal because I had a good experience previously. Unfortunately, this visit--and especially the way my complaint was handled--has left me questioning whether I'll be back.

I love the fact that they have outside seating right on the water, you couldn't ask for a more beautiful scenery to have lunch at. Everything as far as food that I've tried here has been great. There's never a question of if we're gonna get crab dip. I definitely recommend trying it. If you're just craving a snack and a couple drinks, they have a decent little charcuterie board and a few other little apps to put something on your belly. My sister and I shared a pasta and it was very good, I appreciate that the sauce didn't upset my stomach. Overall, if you want a chill weekend spot or even somewhere to eat for a business brunch, this is one of my top picks in the area. Don't pass it up if you have the time for it!!

We ended up at the Salty Siren for two reasons, one, it was recommended by one of the guides at the Henricus Historical Park as being near the Farrar's Island historical marker (ancestors) and it was on the river. The view was gorgeous. We were promptly seated at an outdoor table overlooking the water. Our server, Jodi H., greeted us with a smile and offered to get our drinks and our calamari appetizer. It was excellent. Light, crispy, fresh with a few fried jalapeños for zing. The dip served with them was really good. I ordered fried oysters, which came with authentic hush puppies (which for this southerner means no sugar!) and I ordered the vegetable of the day (steamed broccoli) to sort of make up for the "fried". My husband ordered the grilled salmon. His salad was huge and the vegetables were so fresh that I filched some of his cucumbers. His salmon was amazing. It was perfectly cooked and it was so moist and tender. We will try to return if we are ever travelling this way again. Try The Salty Siren. Even if you don't go looking for the mile maker afterwards.

Our entrees were equally as tasty. I ordered the salmon and it was done well! There is a huge empty booth right in the front across from the hostess stand, no one was sitting there, we asked if we could sit there for just a moment to cool off in the AC- we were rudely told no we had to wait outside. The next family in line included 2 elderly women and a baby all dressed gorgeous, they also were told they had to wait outside in 105 weather. After about 20 minutes of waiting, (I was just going to tell them to forget it) they said our table was ready. Well, instead of inside with AC as we requested we were seated in a gazebo porch area that they claimed had AC. By this time we were so desperate for cool, we didn't argue that we had requested INSIDE not whatever this room was. It ended up being like sitting in a tuna can. So uncomfortable, my husband and bro in law just went and sat in the car with the AC blasting. Waitress was sporadic to put it nicely. Meanwhile, back inside the booth across from the hostess stand was still empty. Food was fine. But I don't think this place will be around much longer.

It's a very popular restaurant, so today, when we entered, while we were greeted right away, there was a 30 minute wait. There's no physical menus, instead you scan a QR code which brings you to their menu. They have lots of drink options, including several specialty cocktails, beers, and ciders. Our waiter was super sweet and attentive, and the food came out relatively quickly. For my drink, I ordered a local cider from a Virginia ciderie, as well as the It's A Wrap, which has cheddar, ranch, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and your choice of protein (I got tofu). I also got a side of the Mac and cheese, which I could tell was made in house. Super creamy and flavorful with a hint of spice. My wrap was also insanely good! I'm impressed by the amount of vegetarian options here. Any burger can be made both gluten free or vegan, and the choices of protein make it more accessible for everyone who comes in. I was tasked with phoning in the reservation (thankfully the meal went better than that debacle)and since we were dining early it wasn't an issue. First of all, there are two places in the property; the Tavern and 5 Fields pizza and beer. We dined at the Tavern. GORGEOUS garden lining the old farmhouse! We went in and were seated inside right away. As it was almost 100 today it was ideal seating. The decore is well.... different. Where we sat was a truck grill from 1928, and there was more of a sports motiff. (If you go and sit in the same room, let me know if you can spot the crooked pic!) Once again, my curse at remembering names of the servers has hit again which is a real sham because she was beyond AWESOME. She was VERY patient with my extremely frustrating mum which was nice. We both got this truly genius idea of an appetizer to start; a veggie boat with a ranch style dressing. Omg it was perfect. Warm day, cruciferous veggies, ice cold drinks. Heaven. Next came the burgers, she got the Tavern burger, I got the Charles City burger. The Tavern has cheddar cheese and bacon, the Charles City has bree cheese and this creamy mojo ajo aoli along with fried shallots....there is probably more but all I know is that I feel like an idiot never having triple creme bree on a burger before. I have to take a moment to also inform you that they make the BEST Cosmo outside of NYC. Perfectly blended and chilled, and just strong enough to celebrate a Friday night. Yowza! One.more thing. They tempted me with a scoop of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I just want to move in and become one with this place it was so good. I haven't had butter pecan this good in 50 years!!
