Well, back from the cruise and REALLY not feeling the whole "cook our own meal" after being so spoiled, we decided to venture out and try something new. I was tasked with phoning in the reservation (thankfully the meal went better than that debacle)and since we were dining early it wasn't an issue. First of all, there are two places in the property; the Tavern and 5 Fields pizza and beer. We dined at the Tavern. GORGEOUS garden lining the old farmhouse! We went in and were seated inside right away. As it was almost 100 today it was ideal seating. The decore is well.... different. Where we sat was a truck grill from 1928, and there was more of a sports motiff. (If you go and sit in the same room, let me know if you can spot the crooked pic!) Once again, my curse at remembering names of the servers has hit again which is a real sham because she was beyond AWESOME. She was VERY patient with my extremely frustrating mum which was nice. We both got this truly genius idea of an appetizer to start; a veggie boat with a ranch style dressing. Omg it was perfect. Warm day, cruciferous veggies, ice cold drinks. Heaven. Next came the burgers, she got the Tavern burger, I got the Charles City burger. The Tavern has cheddar cheese and bacon, the Charles City has bree cheese and this creamy mojo ajo aoli along with fried shallots....there is probably more but all I know is that I feel like an idiot never having triple creme bree on a burger before. I have to take a moment to also inform you that they make the BEST Cosmo outside of NYC. Perfectly blended and chilled, and just strong enough to celebrate a Friday night. Yowza! One.more thing. They tempted me with a scoop of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I just want to move in and become one with this place it was so good. I haven't had butter pecan this good in 50 years!! After this essay I guess you could say that I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. It's in a beautiful area, lots of parking, great food & ambiance. I couldn't find a single fault. read more

My family and I stopped into Indian Fields Tavern on a whim for lunch and to walk around. The setting itself is beautiful - an old farmhouse turned restaurant with a lot of charm and character. When we arrived, the host/manager seemed frustrated with our party of 5 and quickly crammed us into a spot by the bar, which wasn't the warmest welcome. Thankfully, our server Emily turned things around - she was AMAZING! Attentive, friendly, and easily the highlight of the staff. Food-wise, it was a bit of a mixed bag. I had the Brussels sprouts (delicious!) and the chicken biscuit brunch special. The biscuit itself was flavorful, but the chicken was on the tougher, dry side and lacking much seasoning. The cucumber salad, however, was fresh and very good. As for the atmosphere, while the space itself is charming, there were quite a few noticeable stares from both staff (not Emily!) and some locals, which made things feel less comfortable. After finishing our meal, we lingered to chat for a bit -- by then, the restaurant was mostly empty -- but the manager still seemed less than thrilled we were hanging around, which came across as rushed. All that said, the location and uniqueness of the space really do make it worth a stop if you're traveling between Richmond and Williamsburg. I'd call it a solid 7.5/10: decent food, great setting, and if you're lucky enough to get Emily as your server, you'll be in very good hands. read more

First time I've ever been here. Had honestly never even heard of it until a date wanted to go here. The outdoor seating area was very nice and comfortable. There is a screened in porch seating area as well. The service was good and very friendly. I had the country cubano sandwich with potato wedges. The sandwich was incredibly flavorful and juicy. My girlfriend had the steak special. The steak was huge and she said the flavor was very good and it was also very juicy. I also had the bourbon caramel bread pudding which was great. I would highly recommend this place for a nice dinner. I will definitely be back to try something new on the menu. read more

First of all, LeAnn our waitress (I hope I spelled your name correctly) gave us a great intro the the restaurant and its menu, including the beers, which I myself don't drink, but my hubby does. Fabulous steak..fabulous shrimp. The Brussels sprout appetizer was extremely unique and the apple arugula salad was very good and a generous portion of each. We probably could have stopped there. Their house wheat beers, per hubby, were very good. I had the lemon drop martini..or should I say I had 3 they were that good! We'll be back...hungry for more! read more

Not an exaggeration! You won't ruffle my feathers if you don't order this amazing meal, but you'll regret it! The cuke salad was fresh and lightly seasoned, the potato wedges were hot and fluffy! Indian Fields Tavern is worth the drive, great food, welcoming staff, and a beautiful farm setting. My wife and I stopped in and were greeted right away. The staff was friendly, helpful, and didn't oversell anything. Each area, the tavern, tasting room, and the pizza box, offered a genuine breakdown of the menu and encouraged us to explore without pressure. The whole property feels easygoing but well-run. We ended up at the tavern and had the Farmhouse CAB sandwich with grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, and red onion on toasted sourdough. It was spot on. The side of mac and cheese was creamy, packed with real cheese, and clearly made from scratch. Comfort food done right. For dessert, the bread pudding hit all the marks: warm, rich, and topped with caramel and whipped cream without being overly sweet. While they have a full bar, what stood out was their beer list. While not long, They featured their own local brews alongside great picks you don't see everywhere. I went with a Founders stout, one of my favorites. Overall worth the visit and We'll definitely make drive back from Richmond. read more

We stopped in for dinner on our way back from visiting Williamsburg. We selected this place based on the great yelp reviews. When we entered, we were immediately informed that they had run out of several menu items, which isn't unusual, especially during a holiday weekend, but then the list kept growing. They also ran out of buns and French fries. They offered potato wedges and bread, so we figured we'd be ok. In the time it took us to be seated and place our order, they also ran out of bread and bacon. Two of us got our sandwiches in wraps. I had lukewarm and dry mac and cheese as a side and my other friend was not impressed with his chicken wings, which he said tasted like they had been frozen. We asked the waitress, who was very nice and apologetic, why somebody just didn't run to the store to get bread, buns, bacon, etc., and she said they were shortstaffed. The manager was also calling people with reservations to see if they still wanted to come in. This seemed like a very poor business decision, leaving many customers disappointed. The location itself was nice, located in what appeared to be an old farmhouse with a large area next to their brewery that had a stage with a band playing and lots of seating. Based on the poor food we were served, I wouldn't be inclined to come back. read more

There were 4 in our party and everyone agreed the food was exceptionally poor. I had the fried fish with potato wedges. Both were lukewarm with no crisp. This was my first time here and it was AMAZING! I will say if you're looking for a fast lunch stop, this might not be the place for you. We got seated quickly and our waitress got our orders but it took a while for our sandwiches to come out. But we weren't in a hurry. Our waitress was awesome. Now the food: my mom had the farmhouse CAB and said it was amazing! I had the Charles City Burger and it was probably the best burger I've ever had. The bacon jam was tangy and crunchy and the Brie was melted and gooey to perfection! We both got side salads that were super fresh and crunchy. All of the dressings are made in house. A wonderful late lunch on a Sunday. We sat near the bar so the bartender took care of us, and she was friendly and attentive. The brunch menu was interesting and I loved the breakfast burger. The blue crab rangoons were a definite highlight. My so loved the country cubano, which had elements of a traditional Cuban with a bbq twist. We topped it off with bread pudding and ice cream. We love Indian Fields Tavern! We've been there multiple times now, made it our weekend specialty! I've tried multiple things on the menu now and they've all been good! The homemade Worcestershire sauce that comes with the sirloin is so good. The staff is super friendly and we've always had great service. The entire vibe of the place is cute, I love the country vibe. It also works for daughter bc she can run around the field before we eat! And you have to get the Caramel Bourbon Bread Pudding with a side of vanilla ice cream, it is SO good. read more

Met the in-laws for dinner before a concert. We were able to be seated outside on a gorgeous evening. Outdoor seating is the way to go if the weather permits. The food was good. I ordered the BLT with cucumber salad and my husband ordered the chicken sandwich. I was a little disappointed with the BLT, I felt like I could make something similar at home. The cucumber salad saved the meal though, would definitely recommend it for a side! Overall good experience, I would like to give the food another chance. read more

Fried brussels sprout appetizer (3.5/5) - honey vinaigrette added a nice sweetness but I suspect also messed with the crispiness. The 'sprouts were deeply deep fried so I expected them crispy and tender but they were a bit more soggy and al dente Steak frites (4/5) - good flavor on the steak and great fries. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. I asked the steak to be med rare and it ended up being closer to med well, but the meat was still not too chewy. Fries fish (3.5/5) - standard fried cod. Batter was nicely golden brown but the fish was a little dry and left some flavor to be desired. Bread pudding (5/5) - an outstanding dessert. With the vanilla ice cream accompaniment, the bread pudding was a warm melt-in-your-mouth treat that made me forget about the brussels sprouts for a moment. Not overly sweet either, and a decent portion. Well done! Strawberry and peach ice cream (4.5/5) - another great dessert, the seasonal flavors of strawberry and peach blended together for a unique and very pleasant taste. Mostly strawberry but the additions of peach bits in this house-made ice cream tied the flavors together. I just wish it was a little stronger Service/atmosphere (5/5) - great porch seating with screen doors and all. Friendly southern hospitality, all total about as good as it gets. i decided to round this one up to 5 stars for the outstanding desserts and service as well as the decent value. read more

What a great place! First off beautiful grounds with tables and string lights outside and then a beautiful house with tables inside. Sat inside and had great service. Our waitress was nice and attentive. The crab Rangoon was maybe the best Rangoon I have ever had! Lots of yummy crab you could actually taste. Nice size too! Also had the chicken tenders and Mac and cheese as my side. Both were great! Chicken seemed to be a tempura batter and came out nice, hot and crispy! The Mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy and came in the cutest little jar. My friend had the cheeseburger and she enjoyed it. Hit or miss. The grounds are very nice but some of the recent changes are not so great. They used to have music at the restaurant, but no more...a huge disappointment. The music is either at the brewery or in the barn. The food is ok. The chicken sandwich (Bird Barn) is very good, but the Farmhouse CAB was awful. When we complained, the manager just brought out more chicken and walked away. Odd. Service is always good. Managers, not so much. I think they are trying to do too much while discarding the things that made them popular with customers. I would rate 2.5 stars, but since I can't, I'll round up to 3. read more

Had dinner with friends on a Thursday and completely enjoyed the entire experience. Beers on tap were from the adjacent Five Fields brewery and include a delicious Porter. Apps included pimento cheese with crispy pita triangles, and chicken wings that were superb. All the entrees were stellar. Service was first rate. This place is the definition of "quaint." After a Sunday drive in the country it's a welcome stop for refreshment. We recently hosted a party of four here and I can attest that the menu is varied, and the quality and quantity is first-rate. The Fried Chicken was juicy and crunchy, so someone in the kitchen knows a thing or two about the yardbird. The sandwiches were all filling and filled with fresh ingredients. And the Pimento Dip is not to be missed! They've got a great outdoor patio for al fresco dining. The Sunday we visited they had live music entertainment. And there's a mini-food-truck-bar setup so snacks and drink orders don't have to go inside. Yay! Where they are falling down is on service. They're reducing hours due to staff shortages. And our waitress -- our POOR waitress -- had to solo handle en entire dining room of a half-dozen pretty large tables. She was hustling, but it was a challenge to keep up. As a result, some of the food orders died in the kitchen waiting to be delivered to the table. And keeping up with diners' requests, etc., was more than the limited staff could handle. We're returning at the first chance we get. Our hope is that the staffing shortage can be improved, and I can revisit this review with a couple of extra start to dole out. read more
