Bacon cheese burger with sweet potato fries
    William V.

So I stopped in for a late lunch early dinner on a Friday night. It snowed a few days ago so the place is not jumping. There is a band setting up on one side. I would say they are a bar restaurant. They have a bunch of tables inside and some outside. There are people smoking on the patio. Not sure if you eat outside when it is nice out that people smoke near you. I ordered the bacon cheese burger. I got lettuce tomato and onions on it and sweet potato fries on the side. Not sure if it was because they were slow but my order came out real quick. The burger was real good. Kind of reminded me of a nice homemade juicy burger you would grill outside in the summer. The woman that was working the bar was also the waitress. She was real nice. I overheard her say that it got real busy for lunch and then was slow again. I guess I can see some of the reviews being bad. If they are busy and she is alone that could be a lot.

    Cheese fries. Slop.

A real dump. Avoid like the plague. Nasty bathrooms, basically a real dive, bad attitudes from the employees, extremely annoying local regulars who harass and and try to start fights with others who come in. Draft beers are extremely small. Cheese fries were basically an inedible congealed gelatinous mass of coagulated slime.

I would never stop here again. Some of worst food, and expensive for what it was. Took almost 2 hours for food. The water had a strange taste, almost soap like. Asked for another glass thinking it was the lemon but no, it was the water. The burgers were OK. I have had better off a backyard grill. Not a 10 dollar burger. Fries were frozen and eh. Salad was fresh but poorly cut.

Well, back from the cruise and REALLY not feeling the whole "cook our own meal" after being so…read morespoiled, we decided to venture out and try something new. I was tasked with phoning in the reservation (thankfully the meal went better than that debacle)and since we were dining early it wasn't an issue. First of all, there are two places in the property; the Tavern and 5 Fields pizza and beer. We dined at the Tavern. GORGEOUS garden lining the old farmhouse! We went in and were seated inside right away. As it was almost 100 today it was ideal seating. The decore is well.... different. Where we sat was a truck grill from 1928, and there was more of a sports motiff. (If you go and sit in the same room, let me know if you can spot the crooked pic!) Once again, my curse at remembering names of the servers has hit again which is a real sham because she was beyond AWESOME. She was VERY patient with my extremely frustrating mum which was nice. We both got this truly genius idea of an appetizer to start; a veggie boat with a ranch style dressing. Omg it was perfect. Warm day, cruciferous veggies, ice cold drinks. Heaven. Next came the burgers, she got the Tavern burger, I got the Charles City burger. The Tavern has cheddar cheese and bacon, the Charles City has bree cheese and this creamy mojo ajo aoli along with fried shallots....there is probably more but all I know is that I feel like an idiot never having triple creme bree on a burger before. I have to take a moment to also inform you that they make the BEST Cosmo outside of NYC. Perfectly blended and chilled, and just strong enough to celebrate a Friday night. Yowza! One.more thing. They tempted me with a scoop of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I just want to move in and become one with this place it was so good. I haven't had butter pecan this good in 50 years!! After this essay I guess you could say that I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. It's in a beautiful area, lots of parking, great food & ambiance. I couldn't find a single fault.

His family was excited to bring me, and I see why. Despite being crowded, the servers were spot on with timing and hospitality. The owner even stopped by to say hello and happy holidays. Very attentive staff, and I can't praise them enough. The food was just as great. Meaty crabcakes with little to no filler. I ordered mine atop a salad, which was delicious and fresh. The best way to describe this place is like going into a golden corral before they renavated. A big open space with basically no one in it but old people. in fact when i arrived with my family member the only people in there were one older couple and the staff. fortunately the staff was pleasant very sweet and friendly that's one thing i'd like to highlight. The menu on the other hand was very odd. i only expected stake and pasta. But there was seafood and... greek food? in my personal opinion the food options were an odd choice to say the least. Never the less i order a greek burger, a salad i think cobb, and an appetizer of mac n cheese bites. the food gets out very quickly which would be great if the food quality was even remotely good. the mac n cheese bites were clearly frozen crap you would buy in bulk. they weren't even hot, they were warm. when i get something fried i expect it to be hot and delicious not mildly warm and have the aftertaste of frost bite. next the salad, it's very hard to get a salad wrong, the taste was fine just like any other salad but as i inspected the ice burg lettuce i noticed some weird black dots on a lot of the pieces. I did not feel comfortable eating anymore of it. just gross. The burger came out and as soon as i saw it i thought "what even is remotely "greek" about this burger. i ordered everything that it comes with except mustard, so i expected SOMETHING different about this burger considering they called it greek but in fact it was just a burger that had lettuce tomato and pickles. I took the bun off of it to inspect it, the burger looked like it was holding on for dear life to not fall apart. so i took a piece off and what do you know it fell apart. looking over that i took a bite and.. literally zero flavor?? if this was addressed as. normal burger my only complaint would be it needed salt and to not fall apart everytime i bite into it. But unfortunately it was addressed as "greek" only god knows why. Oh! and the bread basket oh is just somthing to laugh at. seriously let me ask u this what do u expect the bread to be like at a steak house restaurant? or even a normal restaurant? maybe some nice cheesey bread? maybe even sweet? or just your average joe roll even that would be better than literally giving me a piece of white sliced bread.. yeah like the ones in the plastic at your local grocery store. honestly embarrassing and added a new level of, wow this is just cheap. Oh but after all that you would expect the food to be really cheap right? no the prices are the same as if you were to go to olivia's on main. seriously if your going to charge that price make better quality food‍. the only reason this review has 2 stars and not 1 was because the staff and our waitress made the place bearable. our waitress im not sure her name but she was very sweet and i tipped her a 20 because it's not her fault the food is just something u would expect to receive at a nerseing home, hell might as well be one with the atmosphere of the place. All in all do better nicks. You must've had good food at some point because there's no way this is supposed to be one of gloucester points delicacies.
