Limp french frys
Hipy L.

I love the sandwiches but your French frys need some work They have awesome flavor but no consistency on size and cooking time They are limp If you can get your frys together it would be 5 stars

This is our first visit to New Kent, and it's so peaceful and quiet. A local we met at the farmers market recommended the Trojan Grill, and he was right. It has a nice ambiance and great service. We loved the appetizers; they were delicious.

Large hotdog with pulled pork BBQ and loaded fries.

In the last year they have changed their menu and the bbq hot dog we loved so much has been eliminated. While the service was good, the other items we ordered (soft pretzel and Chopped Cheese sandwich) were greasy and not flavorful.

Our server was awesome!!!!

Well, back from the cruise and REALLY not feeling the whole "cook our own meal" after being so…read morespoiled, we decided to venture out and try something new. I was tasked with phoning in the reservation (thankfully the meal went better than that debacle)and since we were dining early it wasn't an issue. First of all, there are two places in the property; the Tavern and 5 Fields pizza and beer. We dined at the Tavern. GORGEOUS garden lining the old farmhouse! We went in and were seated inside right away. As it was almost 100 today it was ideal seating. The decore is well.... different. Where we sat was a truck grill from 1928, and there was more of a sports motiff. (If you go and sit in the same room, let me know if you can spot the crooked pic!) Once again, my curse at remembering names of the servers has hit again which is a real sham because she was beyond AWESOME. She was VERY patient with my extremely frustrating mum which was nice. We both got this truly genius idea of an appetizer to start; a veggie boat with a ranch style dressing. Omg it was perfect. Warm day, cruciferous veggies, ice cold drinks. Heaven. Next came the burgers, she got the Tavern burger, I got the Charles City burger. The Tavern has cheddar cheese and bacon, the Charles City has bree cheese and this creamy mojo ajo aoli along with fried shallots....there is probably more but all I know is that I feel like an idiot never having triple creme bree on a burger before. I have to take a moment to also inform you that they make the BEST Cosmo outside of NYC. Perfectly blended and chilled, and just strong enough to celebrate a Friday night. Yowza! One.more thing. They tempted me with a scoop of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I just want to move in and become one with this place it was so good. I haven't had butter pecan this good in 50 years!! After this essay I guess you could say that I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. It's in a beautiful area, lots of parking, great food & ambiance. I couldn't find a single fault.

My wife got a house white wine - do not get this- she said is was terrible. But I got a bottle beer and was happy. The menu is full of sandwiches, burgers, salads, seafood, and dinner specials, but we just wanted a pizza. 16" round pizza was back on our table in about 20 min. The pizza was just ok ( c+ or b-) nothing to write home about. I would say the crust was considered a medium thickness and pizza was full of pepperoni. We both ate 2 pieces each and the took 4 home for leftovers. We will be back some day to try other foods. We did see a lot of burgers being service.

"Greek" salad's was a pile of springmix with feta cubes and black olives and bottled balsamic dressing. Key "lime" pie was missing fresh lime and again skimpy portion. Service was excellent. The food here was really good. My kiddo specifically asked for cheese fries for his birthday lunch,…read moreso after asking for recommendations on Facebook, this place seemed like the best choice. It can get a little pricy, especially when you want to try all of the things, but the portions were plentiful and tasted delicious. We started with the cheese stick roulette, where they apparently prep a bunch of different cheeses for cheese sticks earlier in the week, and then just randomly grab six to deep fry when you order it. You have no idea what it is, they have no idea what it is. Pretty fun and delicious and we love cheese, so total win. We ended up cutting them in half just to check what they were before eating because the kids do not like anything remotely spicy and pepper jack is one of the cheeses, so we just had to verify it wasn't that so they could eat it and hubs and I ate those ones instead. I thought the tomato coulis it was served with was stellar, and the fruity jam was also amazing. I could not decide which one was better for dipping the cheesesticks in, and I ended up keeping both condiments when the cheesesticks were gone so I could dip my fries in them. A fantastic choice, they were both great with the fries. Which I might add, are AWESOME! They are scoopable fries. So... like a cross between potato skins and potato wedges. They were both crispy and soft and very unique and so worth the trip. They also use the cheese dip instead of just shredded cheese, so it stays creamy and gooey. All of the burgers sounded awesome and it took us a very long time to decide what we wanted (I had been looking at the menu days in advance to make sure I could decide) and we opted for the Southern Gentleman (pimento cheese, hot honey and fried chicken) and the PBJ and I can't decide which one I liked more. They were both completely different and completely delicious. If I had to make a recommendation... I'd say bring a friend, order one of each and split them like hubs and I did. Choices are for suckers. Kiddos opted for the cheese fries that he came for (which come with bacon, btw) and the kiddos cheeseburger meal, and they both loved them. The service was great too, even when this place was pretty darn crowded on a weekday lunch hour. Also, don't be fooled by the storefront driving by, this restaurant is waaaaaaaay bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside. There was plenty of seating. The music was a touch too loud, but they also had some yummy sounding specialty drinks, as well as a bunch of local beers. My kids have been asking to come back pretty much since we left the restaurant.

Upon arrival, it was quite busy but the location still had plenty of seating. When we were seated, we noticed it was only one waitress waiting tables too. She was able to get us our drinks and orders pretty quickly despite working solo. I was the adventurous one in our group and ordered the pb and j cheese burger. Upon initial bite, it really tasted like a really well constructed burger. It was a double patty burger with white cheese. You don't really taste the jam. As you're chewing, the peanut butter comes out and it really makes the bite more creamy and definitely tastes of peanut butter. Overall, I would recommend fat boys for sure. Everyone thought the food tasted great and the portions were big. Definitely worth the trip!

Well after her college graduation, we decided we should finally stop in and enjoy a meal. I called ahead of time, since it was about 7 of us, to see if there would be a long wait. The first girl I spoke with told me that they wouldn't be able to accommodate us and then put me on hold. Either the call disconnected or she hung up but I called back again and thankfully, the lady that answered told me that they'd be able to accommodate us with no issues. Once we arrived, there was a table available for us so we were seated right away. The staff were very friendly. Once we put in our drink orders, we were able to enjoy the buffet or order from their menu. We all decided on the buffet. The buffet included fried chicken, fried catfish, greens, green beans, potatoes, corn, ham, deviled eggs, a salad bar, brisket mac & cheese, lima beans, carrot soufflé and desserts, among other things. The food was delicious!!! I'm not a huge buffet person but the food was seasoned like a southern person was back there making it lol! My family thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we all went back for seconds lol. It did take some time for the server to refill our drinks but they explained that they were short staffed so we understood. The buffet is only open on the weekends, I believe, but it was only $19.99! Can you believe that?! If I lived closer, I would probably go to Virginia Diner once a month lol. The restaurant was very clean and the dining area was very spacious. The restaurant includes a nut shop when you walk in, so we all were able to grab a few different types of nuts before leaving. If you're in the area, definitely stop in! If the buffet was that good, I'm sure their other meals are even better!!!
