The Blue Crab restaurant is the perfect local business to try if you are traveling north of Williamsburg. My sons and I stopped in for an early diner after hiking through York River State Park. We were immediately impressed with the decor and friendly service as we entered. The Blue Crab offers several great draft beer choices and their menu offers a variety of stellar options. We split their pickle chips and crab cake sandwich and my picky eater chose the grilled cheese. The food came out fast and tasted great. The batter on the pickle chips (spears) wouldn't stick but it didn't stop us from eating it. This is definitely worth a try if you're in the area! read more

This is a convenient place to stop in and have a it while you're in town. However, growing up on the coast w/ true seafood I'm a little more critical than most. We did an assortment of apps. The hush puppies were very heavy and didn't have true deep fried taste. For local oysters, the fried oysters aren't bad, but if you consider yourself an oyster connoisseur you probably won't write home about these. The crab dip was really good, however the pitas were inconsistently cooked so some were soft and others were overly oily/ crispy. The calamari was very good. I stopped here for a quick lunch on the way to the Northern Neck. I was seated immediately and taken care of by this really sweet waitress. I placed an order for the poke and read while I waited. Do know this review is just based off of two things I ordered. I'm sure there are other incredible things to get off the menu. However, the poke wasn't really for me. The rice felt a bit off, but was still filling. It's a casual spot that feels pretty intimate. The seating is a bit in the back without windows. They have a gender neutral single stall restroom. And there is free street parking outside. Before leaving I got a key lime pie that I really enjoyed. If I was in the area, I'd come back to try other things on the menu. read more

Took 10 minutes to be seated, server forgot our order and had someone else come take our order when we were their only table, ordered a coors light and received a corona instead, and the crab cake was full of bones. Afterwards was hunted down claiming we didn't pay because we didn't leave a tip. Wouldn't recommend. read more

It's a BIG NO for me. The menu proclaims the food is made with fresh seafood, all the way to the clam strips, but I say Nay, Nay. Today (6/2/26) was my first visit and because it was my first visit, I planned to try several items, but they were out of so many items: - no deviled eggs - no crab balls - no fried pickles I ordered a cup of She Crab soup and the Crab Dip appetizer: The soup flavor was fine, but hard to find any crab. The crab dip was extremely salty. When the bill came at the end the Crab Dip price was a dollar more on the bill than listed on the menu. When I questioned the waitress, I was informed the menu prices went up months ago, but the menu was never updated to reflect the correct price, so beware when ordering from the menu if you're on a budget. I ordered the Seafood Platter and asked the waitress if the clams were indeed made fresh there and not frozen and she said yes, they were definitely frozen. The hushpuppies were horrible, not sure what all they are putting in them, but need to keep them simple. The cod fish was just okay, no seasoning or salt. The shrimp was okay, but greasy, could have been very good if they were drained before serving. I didn't get the coleslaw that was supposed to come with the meal, just realized that as I am typing this review, bummer. The best thing on the platter was the French fries only because they were actually made from a fresh potato and not frozen. After trying a little of each food, I really wanted some dessert to cut the grease from the fried food, but when I asked what the desserts were, once again I was told: - no desserts today. All-in-All, just no love in the preparation of the food. I don't think they care about return business. I can't see return customers from what I experienced. The ONE and only lady who was the Hostess, Waitress (inside and outside), Server, Busser, Customer Service Desk/Phone person was working her butt off to keep things going but still took me 10 minutes to get seated because all the tables were dirty inside and outside and she was doing her absolute best. The inside and outside building decor needs refreshing, looks old and run-down. The one bathroom is horrendous; it really needs help. I love trying different restaurants and supporting non-chain/mom and pop type places and this one had good reviews so thought it would be a nice experience. A friend of mine and I drove to my hometown area for patio furniture shopping in Saluda and we stopped here for lunch. Even though I'm from WP, I've never been to The Blue Crab. The decor was really cute. Very nautical (of course). I'm bummed we didn't go on Sunday!! AYCE crab legs?! Yum! But the food we ordered was very delicious. We started with the crab dip (kinda pictured in a corner shot) and then we both had the crab cake sandwich for our meal. The crab cake was hefty! All crab meat. I barely saw any filler. Between all 5 of us we had: Cod Fish Sandwich Very good- the breading kept falling off the fish. It was moist. The fish was thick and juicy. Lemon Pepper Salmon Cooked "medium" with good flavor. Very flavorful and moist. The Brussels sprouts were yummy and the mashed potatoes had their skins in it. Everything was delicious. Crab dip The pita bread is like a fried chip. There is too much old bay for our liking but the dip itself is amazing!!! Poke Bowl- raw It is good, but too much pickled cabbage. She crab soup It was "on point". The cup is perfect. The bowl is too big- definitely a shareable item in a bowl. Calamari It was average. It was crispy and flavorful. The soup was better. It was not rubbery and fried well. Caramel Cheesecake The crust and caramel are make this cale VERY sweet. Too sweet. Key Lime pie It has a strong like taste to it. Probably one of the best. Very smooth. Carrot Cake The carrot cake is moist, and dense. It has a slight sweetness to it but the texture is slightly off. Our server was very attentive, however they switched out mid shift of our dinner. Then first server took our orders and was nice. The second waitress brought us the food, was attentive and upbeat. The restaurant does have dirty vents and a missing vent in the ceiling. read more

Over the past two or three years I have made it a practice to stop here on the way back from the Northern Neck. The quality of the meals has gone down significantly over the last year. This evening I ordered the fried oyster dinner. I requested that the oysters be lightly breaded and lightly cooked. They were neither. In addition, of the about ten pieces of fried corn meal on my plate, only about two of them could legitimately be called oysters. If there were any remnant of oyster in those other small, hard chunks on my plate, it was barely detectable. I walked away tasting, not of oyster, but of grease. read more

What reads on the menu like an unassuming little fish sandwich, the cod sandwich came out beyond fascinating with incredibly delicious toppings. Reminiscent of the Caribbean it came topped with mango. Everything was delicious! The food was amazing! The fried oysters are probably the best I've had. The she crab soup was really good. I would recommend going with a cup. The bowl was huge! I had the endless shrimp. The 1st serving I was like oh no overcooked. But after that they were spot on and easy to peel. They came with cocktail sauce and clarified butter. I'm not a fan of that style of butter but it was still good. My date had the crab cakes. Those were really good too. The only waitress/hostess did an amazing job by herself!! I looked forward to stopping here on the way home after picking up a friend from airport. Recently moved here and missed blue crab cakes. Reviews said no filler. Made me think they would compare to maryland lumber crab cakes with no filler. They are more backfin and flat crab cakes - but at least they don't have a lot of seasoning like I've experienced around here. Service and staff were extremely hospitable. Brussels sprouts were good. What a lucky stop we made for lunch on our way home from the rivah! We decided to see if there was something other than fast food in West Point to stop for a bite to eat and we found the Blue Crab. Cute place serving a very nice brunch! This place was hopping (around Sunday noon), but we were warmly greeted and seated promptly. It did not take long for DH and me to decide what we wanted to eat. I had the oysters benedict and DH had the oyster po' boy and we decided to share an order of fried pickles. Pickles came out pretty quickly and were freshly made. They had a nice crunch and we enjoyed them as a warm up the main event. DH's po' boy sandwich was beautiful and came with a side of house made chips. He loved it. My oysters benedict was delicious. Each muffin had a very large oyster, hand breaded and fried to perfection. It was a nice contrast to the creamy hollandaise. DH and I were very pleased that their oysters were obviously not Sysco out of a bag. Service was friendly and helpful. We look forward to coming back. read more

Place is small. Went during crab event. They only had a select menu only 5 items to choose from. My husband and myself got shrimp basket, mom got crab sandwich, and 3 soda's for $65. Only received 5 fried shrimp and a small handful of fries. So the sofa's cost almost $12 so the rest of as $53. Feel like should have had a minimum of 10 shrimp per dinner. I worked in the restaurant business for over 30+ yrs, I do not mind paying good money for good, hot food. This place was a gem, we live about 45 minutes away and have already been here twice, once in house and once ordered to go both times were amazing, can't wait to take out of town guests here, and believe me I will not take people to restaurants I do not fully support. Great casual place to get some great food! I had the poke bowl, amazing! Other diners all were happy with their meals, too! Our only....and I mean ONLY not excellent comment is that our reservation was for 6:30. At 6:45, the 'open' light was turned off and patrons were turned away starting at 7. Couldve been the small town norm, could've been some unique thing.....so def won't affect this review, just want to suggest you call before you go to be sure they're open!!
