    Plantains
    Michele L.

We have been meaning to try this restaurant for a while and just haven't gotten a chance, so one night when it was just us adults, we ordered take out. It was all ready very quickly and smelled amazing! We got two 1/2 chicken meals (one regular and one only dark meat), a pork chop meal, and some fried plantains. The online menu didn't state the meal came with sauce so each of us ordered one of each sauce to try. We ended up getting a bag full of just sauces! Everything smelled so amazing right off the bat. The chicken was fall of the bone perfect! The seasoning was so delicious! I loved the red potatoes. The Yukon fries were fine, nothing wrong with them but nothing extra special either. The plantains weren't my favorite. I know people who would love them. I, on the other hand, felt they needed a little bit of flavor and to maybe be cooked a little more maybe. The dark meat meal does definitely seem like it comes with less chicken which makes sense given the pieces, so take that into consideration when ordering. I didn't mind because I couldn't have finished all of that meat in a regular anyway, plus I prefer dark meat. The pork chops, I was told, we're good and flavorful, if a little dry just because they were very thin and just how they were cooked but not dry in a way that was unpleasant. We all unanimously loved the yellow sauce. I could eat that on everything! We haven't eaten in the restaurant before, but going in there briefly, it's a cute small place that seems fairly quiet and the staff were very nice. We'll definitely be back because the quality and value are on point!

This place is great, the restaurant is super clean and very welcoming. The food was very good, I ordered their family meal. For 33 dollars you get a whole chicken, 3 large sides and a 2 liter soda. I enjoyed the Peruvian style fried rice. My son enjoyed the steak bowl, it comes with plenty of food to share. Service was excellent. Next time I will order a side of yuca fries!

I got the half chicken with red onion salad, and fried rice and it was delicious! The green and yellow sauce is a must paired with a sweet iced tea. The best Peruvian chicken in this area. Highly recommended.

1/4 chicken white fried rice and black beans also had the lomo saltado which was eaten before I got pics

Delicious authentic food with tons of flavor at a very reasonable price the black beans were the best I've had in a long time. I highly recommend trying this restaurant out.

Everytime I order from here- the food is AMAZING!! It's such a good spot buried in the heart of Mechanicsville, it looks like a little hole in the wall on the outside, but it's very beautiful on the inside. I ordered the chicken bowl this time which has been my FAVORITE!! The flavors are phenomenal!! I love the light green sauce they put with it. Also everyone in there is very kind and accommodating. It was my first time trying plantains and I was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be coming here again and again. The reason I give it 4 stars and not 5, is because I did get a few grisly pieces of chicken in my mouth that was stringy and hard like bristles from a brush, which almost made me vomit and put me off to the meal a bit. I know that can be normal with certain food especially one like chicken but it really threw me off- besides that this was 10/10!!

The food is always fresh and flavorful. The charcoal rotisserie chicken and cilantro lime rice is a go-to. Friendly staff as well!

This tidy little Latino market carries many Hispanic, Mexican and South American products. Being of Cuban descent, I frequently head to this site for Goya products, including rice, black beans, plantains, Adobo spices, coffee, Maria cookies, fresh fruits and veggies, tomato items, empanada shells and my "never be without" Mojo Criollo Goya marinade. This marinade truly is the spice of life and I use it in many of my recipes! You will also find baked goods, household items, and sundries at this store. There's a deli/butcher in the back and a frozen food section. There's also a small restaurant and pupuseria serving Latin fare, from Cuban sandwiches to tacos to tostones to tamales to yucca to soups/sides and more. They serve Cuban coffee, horchata, Latin sodas, and other drinks and some tempting desserts, like flan and tres leches cake. For an inexpensive, quick bite in a casual, no nonsense eatery with lots of festive atmosphere, you've gotta try Cielito Lindo, it really is "a slice of heaven". And not to worry if you don't speak Spanish, some of the folks there speak English. ¡Provecho!

Hard to believe the last time I was here was three or four years ago for brunch. That was before I…read morewas doing yelp reviews lol. I remember we enjoyed brunch, but I don't think there was anything that really blew us away. I do remember we were seated near the door and it was freezing! That unfortunately hasn't changed too much. I think it's hard to go here when the temperatures are cold. This time It was slightly better because we were seated to the right of the door if you're facing the restaurant near a window. Great view for people watching and nice little spot but the supposed heater that was next to our table didn't add too much heat. I couldn't take my coat off until we were eating our main courses but my husband seemed fine with it. The atmosphere is a modern botanical vibe and I think it plays more to its stellar drink lineup and tapas than it does a traditional three course meal. My Yelp buddy Lena was spot on about the drinks. My husband ordered a dance macabre (an Earl Grey infused scotch with pink peppercorn infused soju, Grand Marnier lavender, and orange & lemon bitters) and since I am more of a bourbon fan, I just ordered a Malbec but when I tasted my husband's DM I thought it was so good I had to order one for myself and gave my wine to someone else. I wasn't planning on having hard liquor that night, but it was so amazing. I really wanna go back another time just to have the drink. If you're not an Earl Gray fan though maybe u might want to pass, but my husband's not a tea person ordinarily and he couldn't stop raving, so it might be worth a shot The Tapas we ordered was very enjoyable: . Eggroll birria Whipped feta Fried zucchini Our mains were miss and hit. Our friends enjoyed the honey badger but my husband and I thought the solita double burger was not very good. Completely unseasoned so tasted like boring ground beef and overdone. The tomato jam and the aoli was only thing saving it and it needed way more of it. I got the grain bowl which was fine but nothing special. Would come back for drinks and tapas. The service on this night was great though. Small lag between drinks and apps but we didn't mind because we were killing time before VCU bball game. If you don't imbibe any spirits, it can be a reasonable tab as well.

Espresso Martini: Perfectly balanced and a must-try. I've been sleeping on this place for too long, but it's definitely going into the regular rotation.
