There's a drink menu at the entrance and near the entrance once inside. The entrees we ordered were the fajita quesadilla with steak. The steak tasted peppery so if you like peppered steak-you might want to try that.. if you decide to carry out ask for the tortilla on the side so you won't go home with a soggy quesadillas. Tasty beans and fluffy rice, DELICIOUS. The red salsa was mild. The white sauce was slightly sweet. The veggie fajitas were loaded with green beans, potatoes, and a lot of veggies which increase my energy levels- no groggy feeling AT ALL and I recommend the corn tortillas for all of the gluten free peeps. Thanks El Caporal the food was so delicious!

Came for a moms night and I'd say it's a great spot for the drinks and food. Ordered the chimichangas one chicken one beef and they were incredible. I ate the entire thing! I haven't had a fruity drink in a long time and the Blue Pineapple was perfect! I would've ordered more. Service was great too.

I ordered the chicken fajita and chicken enchilada. One would think this is a simple request, but I received a chicken fajita and beef enchilada. This is pretty disgusting for someone that doesn't eat beef.

Chorizo with chicken and I asked for shrimp to be added, comes with refried beans and rice. Soooooo goood!!! Highly suggest!

I very much enjoyed my time here. We were celebrating my niece's birthday and it was suggested we come here, and I was very excited as this was my first time. The drinks were great and HUGE!!! Also the food portions size was impeccable, I couldn't finish mine definitely enjoyed the left overs though ! I loved the customer service and, the gentlemen serving us was the waiter AND the bartender on a busy Saturday night, but still managed to be attentive and kind, this guy was a saint! There are two sections where you can be seated and we were on the quieter side which was great for conversations and enjoying the meal without distractions. Thank you El Capital! We had a great time!

Being new to the area, it was time to go out for dinner. After some debate, we landed on El Caporal. This was a good choice. Special of the evening was a Purple Margarita. Well, the margarita was more green than purple, but the strength of this drink more than made up for the color. Who buys drinks for the color anyway? Unless it's a Blue Hawaiian. This place is a completely contactless restaurant. Hell, we didn't know. The waiter comes over and asks if we're ready to order. My response? How about a menu? Then he points to a QR code on the table. Ding ding ding. Big dummy I ordered what was called Fajitas con Chorizo. It was fajitas with Chicken, Steak and Chorizo. I thought it sounded like an interesting combo, so I tried it. And, I was pleasantly surprised. Very good!!! The chorizo was slightly spicy, which worked nicely with the chicken. On our way out the door, there was a line of waiting customers around the corner and GrubHub orders lined the entire bar (bar closed due to COVID-19). If you find yourself in the Chesterfield area of Virginia, this joint is worth checking out.

    This is their taco.

The staff was excellent throughout the evening and graciously accommodated special requests, which was greatly appreciated. We started with the fried green tomatoes appetizer, and they were fantastic -- huge portion and full of flavor. Unfortunately, I had no room left for dessert. Highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you appreciate historic ambiance paired with elevated food and service. I ordered food and what I asked for was not even in my order. So I called to let them know. He told me when I come back I could get another plate or something else and I wouldn't have to pay, especially since I live far. When I got there, his whole attitude switched. He got aggressive and said, "why would I tell you that? nothing is free." I didn't even get to eat my food. Now let's talk about the atmosphere. Ever since they started playing loud music in there, it's just not the same. It's NOT kid-friendly at all. It's supposed to be a restaurant, but the mixed vibe is off. It turns into something else at night and honestly, it doesn't feel safe. If you go later when it's crowded, just know what you're walking into. Don't look at nobody wrong, don't drink too heavy, don't bump into anyone--because it can turn into a fight real quick. The ONLY positive thing I will say is Sandra the bartender--A+. If you do go, go to her. She's really good at what she does. But overall, the service, the attitude, and the environment is not it for me.

All of the seating is outside, mostly under large awnings. The weather was perfect - not too hot, not too humid, with a beautiful breeze off the James River and Hopewell downwind. We decided to splurge because we're not going to have any leftovers so we ordered a 12" Lilly Pad Pizza to go, and that's lunch sorted for the next couple of days. It's a white pizza with pesto and pine nuts and looks really good. Can't wait to try it! But we have to wait because we ate like little piggies. Bride ordered a limeade- made in house, wonderfully tart - and a shrimp Po'boy. It came with a whole layer of pickles and a half dozen large fried shrimp. The Cajun fries come as the standard po'boy side, and they were fried just right- not too crispy, not too greasy. Their Cajun seasoning is on point. I got sweet tea, which was fine, and a Mushroom Swiss burger which was large, delicious, and actually cooked medium as requested. I upgraded to sweet potato fries which were actually waffle fries- a nice change of pace- and the frying was great again- it's so easy to burn them because of the sugar content, but these were pretty much perfect. For dessert, we both opted for the piña colada cheesecake, a regular cheesecake with their signature rum pineapples and toasted coconut on top. Delicious! The service was excellent, the venue had a fantastic view and the vibe was delightful. The total, before tip, was $78. And the menu is online, so we're already planning what to try next time!

I visited on June 4th for my birthday dinner with my best friend. We arrived around 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday and didn't need a reservation. The restaurant is located in the Highlands community on a golf course, though you'd never know it from the atmosphere. There was a bingo event happening in the main dining room, so we were seated in the bar area. At first I was hesitant, but it turned out to be perfect. The space had a full-length bar with a separate dining area, and while sports were playing on large TVs, the sound was off so it never distracted from dinner. Our waitress, Jenna, was fantastic. She was attentive, friendly, and every recommendation she made was spot on. She didn't miss a thing and handled everything with a smile. I ordered the whipped piña colada, which was dangerously delicious! For appetizers, we shared the crab and shrimp dip and the steak and cheese egg rolls. The dip was amazing, especially paired with the soft pita-style bread instead of hard chips. The egg rolls were perfectly crispy and filled with melty steak and cheese. For our entrées, I had the shrimp tacos and my friend ordered the sweet Thai salmon. We both chose jasmine rice and roasted corn as our sides. Everything was seasoned well, and after trying a bite of the salmon, I can honestly say this is the first restaurant where I'll confidently order salmon for myself next time. The only minor complaint we had was that the rice portion was small--it was so good that three forkfuls just weren't enough! Even though we were stuffed, we took home slices of the banana pudding cheesecake. It was delicious and balanced the banana pudding flavor without taking away from the cheesecake itself. This family-owned restaurant is a must-visit if you're in the area. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
