Met some friends for an evening out. They recommended Ay Caramba on Route 10. It is located in a strip mall so plenty of parking. My party already had a table so we went right in. The menu has lots of choices. I went with Carnitas. Was a little pricey than some other Mexican restaurants, but nothing that would break the bank. The portions were great. The server was prompt and kept our drinks flowing. Food was delivered fast. I would come back again for sure. read more

Wow! Just WOW! We love Mexican food and this restaurant was one of the best we have ever patronized.The friendly staff seated us immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is nicely decorated and the seating very comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The complimentary chips and salsa were fresh and homemade and also came with a white dip which we are able to get at our favorite Mexican spot in MD (La Tolteca) but have never seen in any other Mexican restaurant before. So good! And speaking of good, the cocktails we ordered were refreshing and large: a house margarita and a Mai Tai. For our main entree we ordered fajitas for two. The entree came with two LARGE plates for each of us with the typical lettuce, tomato, sour cream, rice refried beans and guacamole. We each were brought our own sizzling pan of the chicken, beef and shrimp combo piled high. Two flour tortillas apiece rounded out the meal. It was so delicious! Our server checked on us frequently with a smile. Our total dinner bill was around $45 before tip and after a 10% off coupon another guest gave to us, unheard of in this time of inflation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decent enough looking inside with a cool looking bar area as you enter, and a variety of menu options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However I wasn't wholly impressed with my food. Flautas are advertised as coming with cotija cheese but clearly it's just shredded cheddar. Enchiladas are okay but could use a richer sauce. Salsa is weak in terms of heat and a weird middle between chunky and blended that just feels like the wrong texture. This was takeout so I didn't get to sample the full range of the menu. read more

On the outside, the restaurant looks a bit small, but it's actually deeper than expected. We were sat pretty quickly, which was great because it was around dinner time (6:30p-7p) when we arrived. Between my friend and I, we ordered the fajita quesadilla, burrito birrialicious, and carne asada tacos. Taco 'bout mouthwatering deliciousness; everything was absolutely amazing! Great Mexican restaurant close to the house. Mauricio is always so welcoming and friendly. He makes you feel at home. His whole staff is very friendly and attentive. Food is as consistent as any great restaurant should be. The margaritas are fantastic and the variety is fantastic. I have not had a bad meal at Ay Caramba. There are a ton of Mexican restaurants in this corridor and I'm always looking for the next place to try when I'm in the area and I was really impressed with the food here. I studied the menu before going and decided on the guacamole with shrimp and the specialty Tierra Y Mar minus the chicken. Both were fresh and delicious! This place is a gem hidden, excellent service, all waiters are friendly and the best of all the MOJITOS are slam dunk. My husband and I stopped in at Ay Caramba in Chester after an event. We ordered chips, table side guacamole, and drinks. All were quite good (yes, free chips with salsa and white sauce). I had the La Caravena (sp?) which was a coconut flavored margarita with Tajin on the glass. Ordered another to go. That good. Husband had the special top shelf one which he also enjoyed. They make their margaritas in house, no mix. Our server, Aileen, was the sweetest. Great staff overall. Everyone was warm and friendly. Told Aileen I'll be back for the same drink next week. Was in Richmond visiting our friends for the weekend and we decided to stop by for lunch. This place was definitely not what I was expecting. I thought it would be a generic Tex-Mex place but it definitely surprised me. We went for lunch on a Saturday, and it was moderately full. The inside has some Mexican decor. We were able to get a table for 9. The menu is extensive and covers all the basis of Tex-Mex. My wife and I got the Burrito Birrialicious, fajita mix (dinner size), a margarona and a beer. The portion sizes are huge here and the prices are very reasonable. The birria burrito was really good, I ate the whole thing. The fajita was decent as well. Our table agreed the food and drinks here were delicious. The service was on point. This would be definitely on my list to try again when I come back to town to visit! read more

This food is pretty good. I had the shrimp chimichanga My friend had the pollo Jalisco. I have no complaints. There was a little bit of a language barrier that caused a little confusion while trying to order. And that caused us not to get a few things. The waitress was new. No biggie.... But we will be back. Oh my goodness! We will definitely be back! We were looking for a Mexican restaurant close to home and came across Ay Caramba. We were greeted when we walked in and taken to the back of the restaurant. It is a deep restaurant. My husband and I were going to order the same thing because it sounded so delicious. He ended up getting three enchiladas and I got the fajita burrito. The fajita burrito was incredible. It melted in my mouth. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. I felt like I was a part of the family. Across the restaurant there was a mother with three children and the children kept chatting with the couple next to them. The couple was so nice and willing to chat with the kids. It was so nice to see that kindness. read more

Im in town visiting. I did delivery because it's Cinco de Mayo weekend and I'm peopled out. I ordered the birria tacos and the chori pollo, and they did not disappoint. Both were amazing! The chicken in the chori pollo was seasoned to perfection and the chorizo was *chef's kiss*. The consommé with the birria tacos was also delicious. My order also came with freshly cooked chips, white sauce and salsa. Everything was very authentic and delicious. I didn't take pictures because I was starving lol, but everything was delicious. 10/10 recommend! read more

For the lack of places that aren't in south chesterfield. It's a pretty good Mexican spot, go get a drink. Eat some good food. The birria dia was much bigger than you think. It's definitely enough for 2 people. The carne asada fries were pretty good as well. Chicken & steak fajitas are what they are. The tamales were some of the best we've had in a while. I have eaten here like 5 times now. It's not bad food. It's not great either. Their Chile relleno is fairly awful. Tamales are pretty bad. The rest of the food Id day ranges from good to ok. The location and price is the only reason I go there and the service is also very good. I think tonight was my last time even tho I just wanted quick mediocre Mexican food. My family and I have had Ay Caramba many times mostly take out. We truly did enjoy the food however we took our family there this past Thursday and while enjoying our meal my son points out to us a cockroach crawling on the wall. I have already started eating my food when I said something to the waiter. He replies with would you like us to move your table? I am not for confrontation however whats to say there's a infestation?! I couldn't finish my meal. I was completely disgusted. After paying for our meals the waiter replied with "sorry about the roach" I tried taking a picture of it but it was moving so fast. We truly liked Ay Caramba but I can't see passed the cockroaches sorry. We won't be returning. read more

If you order on door dash you can't use special instructions for instance you can't add cheese to a quesadilla or sour cream to nachos. the food is already much more expensive compared to other mexican establishments. I called to ask about getting sour cream with my nachos and they charge an extra 1.50 for a side of sour cream when most places give lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole and sour cream on the side for free! Then he states that cheese comes with quesdfillas because that word means cheelaw in Spanish! Until my last visit to Mi Jalisco, which is only about five minutes from my house, it was my favorite Mexican restaurant. On that last visit, the food was so bland as to be almost tasteless. Everything looked good, but tasted blah. So, I set out to find another place and found Ay Caramba. Although Ay Caramba is about 15-20 minutes from my house, the drive may prove to be worth it. I say "may" because I'm not yet convinced that it is the Mexican restaurant I've been looking for. I love pork tamales and they have them. Unfortunately, there's way more breading than there is pork in those tamales. I had the 3 for $8.99 and that's a good price. Food prices have gotten unreal in most of the restaurants we continue to support and it was a delight to leave the Ay Caramba after paying less than $18.00 for two! Granted, we drank water but we got a lot of food for that price. But, I ramble. Back to the tamales - good but bready ( I know, not a word, but it seems appropriate). The sauce was excellent and the cheese was mellow. Next time, I'll have one tamale with a burrito or enchilada. My wife had a beef taco and chicken enchilada which came with refried beans and rice. She seemed to like it. The service was excellent and the ambiance was what you would expect in a suburban Mexican restaurant. They have a relatively large number of choices on the menu So, I'll give them a few more tries before I declare them my new favorite Mexican restaurant, but based on this one trip, they are in the running. read more

No no no. Food had as much flavor as licking drywall. At least I won't break a toilet after this Mexican food since there is no spice. Quesabirria is a ball of mozzarella with meat that tasted like you walked into a cattle barn and took a deep sniff. Went for dinner last night ordered the quesadillas Cancun. Small quantity but enough for one person. The service was good. The reason for only 3 stars is their air conditioning was out. I called to make sure they were open and would have chose a different place if I had known in advance. Miserable dining experience as a result. The long awaited opening of Ay Caramba in Chesterfield finally arrived! My wife and I were passing and decided to give it a shot. Located on the former premises of Ledo Pizza, we were anxious to see what they did with the interior. It's a bit much to say it was a transformation, as the footprint was exactly the same as Ledo's. However, it was otherwise a complete makeover. Carpeting replaced with woodlike flooring. Takeout station converted to a small bar. The booths transformed into the ubiquitous Richmond Mexican style. The tables in the back with Ay Caramba emblazoned seats. Unlike the waning days of Ledo's, much of the seating was occupied for a late lunch. The staff, from the moment you enter to the time you depart, is friendly and attentive. The red and white salsas served with the chips while reviewing the menu were very good! My wife ordered fish tacos, while I opted for the burrito grande con pollo. The taco portions were very good and I didn't hear a negative sign or remark from the lovely Mrs. It also came with rice. My burrito, when opened, was with bisteak instead of pollo. An error, but at least for me, not a major sin. It came in a 12" tortilla, but wasn't really overly stuffed. The seasoning of the meat was great and would have been delicious by itself. It was however elevated by the seasoning of the remaining ingredients. The check for the two dishes and two soda was 27 dollars. The sodas were 2.25 a piece, which I thought was a little much, as I thought for the price of the burrito. The taco, however, was a decent value. Given the fall from family grace of El Patron after its move and indifference to El Corporal, the addition of Ay Caramba is welcome! read more

I got the fajitas del ray and they were so bomb. The fajitas were so well seasoned and the vegetables were sautéed deliciously. The beans and rice on the side were delicious, too. It came with a complementary bag of chips, too. The salsa was refreshing, but the white sauce it came with was not queso so please don't think it is. It tasted like a mix of sour cream and tzaziki. The food is fabulous, and the wait staff is awesome. My wife and I try to eat there at least once a week. There are Mexican restaurants closer to us, but we prefer the hospitality and delicious selection of entrees found at Chesterfield's Ay Caramba. It's always a treat to go there for a delicious meal and listen to the music of their culture. When you go, look around and you'll probably see us enjoying their tableside guacamole as we wait for our entree in quiet anticipation. read more

Used to love this place, would go at least twice a month. The quality started going down so we stopped going. We decided to give it another try. The chips were comparable to fossils. The cheese on these insanely overpriced enchiladas was not melted and there was hardly any cheese on it. The booths need a complete overhaul, they're pretty gross. This place serves solid Mexican food. I got a shrimp chimichanga which came which rice and beans (I got double rice) and my fiancé got enchiladas (two chicken and one beef.) The food tasted very fresh, it was prepared quickly, portion sizes were generous and the prices were extremely reasonable. I'd definitely eat here again. read more
