This place falls into a sweet spot between typical sit-down Mexican restaurants that mostly cater to non-latinos and an authentic salvadoran dive. The inside features a bar, some booths, and even a pool table. The clientele has always been exclusively latino when I've been, and most of the servers speak limited English, but the vibe is completely welcoming. Everything is made to order so it can take some time (15 minutes on average), but I've never had a better pupusa. They're crispy on the outside and chewy soft on the inside. All of the combos of chicken and bean with cheese are phenomenal. They're so crazy cheap too: $1.75 a pop! I'd give this place five stars if they music weren't so often so loud that you can feel the beat in your chest. Order take out or bring ear plugs if you want to dine in. Don Pedro's looks like and iffy place from the outside and not much to brag about from the inside which, upon entering, instead of immediately seeing the dinning area you are confront with a bar, most likely with someone playing a noisy video machine and a pool table. Indeed, I had my doubts about the place thinking that my stop here wasn't such a good idea. However, I decided to stay and I'm glad I did. I don't like writing these to start off, but this placed just lost a loyal customer ,due to the unprofessionalism of the server that handled my order. My girlfriend went to pick up the order and they almost forgot her drink, and when she check her food they gave the wrong order and blamed her for not giving her order correctly. And we told her that if she didn't have the music so loud and talking to other people while taking our order she would of heard us better. Then she laughed and told us to stop being dramatic over an order. But the best part was when they charged us $80.75 for a ordered that was only suppose to be $20.75. luckily we checked our bank account after we paid. I will never ever EVER EVER come back!!! SMH!!!! I found this restaurant when I was looking for a halfway meet-up with my co-workers that's between Petersburg and Richmond. I've been here twice and has now become a favorite of mine for authentic latin american fare. Chips and salsa is served generously and is of course, free. The menu is extensive with a lot more choices that one won't usually find in other latin american restaurants in Richmond. I had the fried tilapia served with beans and rice and on my second visit a few days ago, ordered two pupusas (one chicken, one pork) , a plate of fried plantains, and corn on the cobb served in their own style (cream, parmesan cheese and ketchup). Today I landed up in this out of the hustle bustle place which takes you back in time. Its a peaceful place with a general sitting for may be 30-40 people max. It also has a lotto machine and a pool table if you would like to have a hand at it. The light native music augmented the experience. The staff is generous and courteous, the service is bit slow, who cares! We were served with loads of nachos and free refills while we waited for our food to arrive. The salsa served along is super fresh. Food was good, portions were sufficient, beer was served cold and we had a jolly time. There should be a zero star. My wife and I tried this place three times. It is very nearby. the food was good. service was good. there was a language barrier. however, is that not what you expect? The rub. The reason for two stars. each time we ate there Montezuma's Revenge visited us the following morning. The mexican-american we eat today in central Virginia is typically made from groupings of sauces. the sauces are simmered all day and require monitoring of time and temperature. failure to do so results in a visit from Montezuma. Good restaurants follows scientific procedure to keep you full, happy, and safe. this restaurant does not follow that philosophy. Good procedure cost money and reduces profit. if you want to look at it that way. Eat here at your own risk. like I said, the food is good. the longer you simmer it the better it gets. but you have to know how to simmer it so it doesn't make someone sick. read more

The food was great. Yeh, its music is loud, but it is really different latin music so we opened a couple Corona's and enjoyed it. The guac was terrific, we had a chicken fajita dinner, and a chicken chimichanga. Everything was as good as it gets. My chimichanga, especially as the breading was as light as a feather. My wife's fajita was excellent and we had to bring half of it home. Very nice portions. The chips and salsa were excellent. Had to force ourselves not to indulge. The waitress didn't seem to understand everything we said the first time, so be patient if you don't speak spanish. She was very nice and helpful. Loud music. No one seated us we had to find a seat at some old plastic table had to get are menu are selves. Then some one came over to move are chairs so not to block waitress walk way.Place was packed but more like a big private hang out not a restaurant. No one was really eating just drinking. And Big language barrier if you don't speak Spanish. Also didn't smell well. We sat and sat and sat for about 15 minutes and no one even came over to us. No water nothing. But the waitress kept walking by us. So after waiting and no service we left. Would not recommend this place at all. Would give it a no star but can't have to give it something. Stopped in at don Pedro's after a 6 hour drive in from south Carolina. I was accompanied by a delicious 26 year old co-worker named Rudy. We ate chips and salsa, our eyes playing table tennis with each other in anticipation of our meal. The waiting was making my tastebud muscles quiver relentlessly. I ordered the Carmel asada chimichanga, he selflessly ordered combination number 12. We added two beers to our flavorful mix, sipping on them with aplomb. We had to ask for limes, apparently in el Salvador you drink beer minus the limes, dull and without flair. I can't understand the music, but it is full of life and I want to dance but don't, i fear the reactions of the staff. 2nd basket of delicious chips and salsa arrived, making me crave even more! A hidden gem! It's not much to look at, but the food was THE BEST Mexican food I've had (and I've had a lot! ) Everything tasted so fresh and authentic. Love this place! Always stop here on our trip back to New York from FL. The guacamole is the freshest and best i have ever had. Tried the combo 12 platter. The pupusa was to die for, rice was exceptional, and pork tacos freshly made with succulent pork. Try the Suprema brand beer. Deliciosa! The enchilada made with cheese was also tasty. Read the other reviews and decided to try this place out. My mother and I both ordered the #12 combo that came with an enchilada, a taco, a pupusa, and rice and beans. The beans were all liquid with only a few beans and a bad taste. The rice was decent and the best thing on the plate. The "enchilada" was hardly edible and the tacos were bland. The pupusa was undercooked and disgusting. Don't waste your time eating here. The food there is amazing! Especially the papusas! The customer service is great and the music there is really nice. I go there a lot to eat and do some work because they have free wifi! The restaurant it self doesn't look fancy but the food there definitely changed my opinion about the restaurant! I come there almost every day for lunch and basically order the same thing! Now Don Pedro's did have an accident on the side of the restaurant with a car accident but they have fixed and it looks great. They are also adding a porch for birthday parties!
