Deborah and I had breakfast at Riverbound today, Candice was wonderful, it had been a while since I had eaten here, but Deborah had never eaten at Riverbound before, she thoroughly enjoyed it, now we have another local place for breakfast that we can enjoy. We both had the Mom's breakfast Deborah had the fried potatoes I had the grits she had a bagel I had the biscuit she had ham and sausage I had the bacon. 1st off, we ordered a kids chick tenders & fries. The fries were either old or had been sitting around a while. Our sandwiches (French dip & chicken BLT) arrived & looked good. That is until I opened the French dip. Burnt & dry to the bone! The aus jus had No flavor. The other sandwich was over cooked as well! I must say, the chicken breast was thick as ever! Review update: A second visit for a Sunday Breakfast the restaurant was packed with a 20 minutes wait time. It was noisy and very chaotic with waiter rushing to serve tables. We decided to stay and try the food, we were seated with water and coffee arriving shortly, this is when the service went down hill from that point. We felt rushed in ordering our food being our first sit down visit. Our food arrived with the waitress performing a dump and run procedure without any questions. We were shocked with that type of service we didn't have any coffee creamer, butter only sugar packets. With our waitress gone we had to wave our hands to get attention for cream and butter. Our food was poorly prepared with overcooked waffles and sausages. Our waitress eventually returned and refilled our coffee mugs. We politely asked for our bill since she was hard to find once she left us. We paid our bill and left with a disappointing experience. read more

This is a local town favorite. Wide open cafe with a full bar too. Almost combining brunch, seafood, and sports bar. Despite its size it feels quite intimate. Obviously brunch is its big thing which I will say chicken and waffles are awesome but seriously this place takes pride in its seafood too hence the name. The Riverbound cafe is a cozy little cafe serving up classic American style favorites. This restaurant has different specials like discounted burger nights, happy hours specials on select days and a night where they serve breakfast dinner which is always great! I opted for a buffalo chicken salad which was loaded with blue cheese crumbles. The spice level on the buffalo chicken sauce was a little milder then I usually go for but it did taste good. I also decided to give the soup of the day a try. On this particular visit the soup of the day was chicken and mushroom. The chicken was shredded and the soup had a good unexpected tangyness to it. I ask so had an Irish coffee with my meal which was priced at 10 bucks. That seemed a little on the higher in for an Irish coffee but it was alright. Our server was very kind and attentive, she did a great job taking care of us. I ordered the gardener omelette with potatoes and biscuit. Server recommended the biscuit. Spouse got pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. It's hot out so the air conditioning feels great. The omelette was wonderful. I could not finish so I took some home. The biscuit was delicious. I put butter and strawberry jam on. Server was excellent offered take out box for leftovers. We are traveling home and needed to stop for food and looked for a spot not too far off route since we have hours of driving left to do. We stop at Riverbound Cafe, 15 minute wait to get a table on a Sunday afternoon, very reasonable. However, once seated it took over an hour to get our food with no one checking in to let us know there's a delay, apologize, or to even check in for refills on drinks. We understand things happen but you communicate, give people a heads up etc. Ended up asking for it to go and said they were sorry it's over an hour wait for each ticket. Communication is courteous and kind with something like that. Unacceptable. read more

I wasn't sure that this cafe was open when pulling into the parking lot, because all the shades were down and it appeared dark inside. Luckily, it was. The servers were welcoming as soon as we stepped in. The menu looked delicious, but we both ended up ordering Reuben's. They were absolutely delicious! Best we had had in years! The service was great. I deducted the one star because I ordered the Tator tots instead of fries and the waitress didn't mention the upcharge. I hate those little surprises. The cafe is larger inside than what you would expect, but with the shades pulled tight in the middle of the afternoon, it had an odd ambiance. Came in for breakfast on a Monday morning. I ordered the chicken biscuit and it was great. The chicken was crispy and the egg folded and stacked high on nice fluffy biscuit. It came with crispy potatoes. I asked for the house made hot sauce to put on my biscuit and so glad I did. It's like a thicker tabasco sauce. Really good. My boyfriend ordered the veggie omelette and enjoyed his meal as well. Service was friendly and food came out pretty fast. Would return. read more

Ordered takeout this evening. I can hear my husband vomiting right now in the bathroom from the dry bbq he ordered.Ordered a salad and it was pieces of garnish lettuce. Not even chopped up. Also ordered the Hummus plate that had garnish style tomato slices with black parts on the edges. The blue cheese in the salad tasted cheap and terrible. There was some kind of taste/smell about the food that felt tainted. I ate a few bites of the app and the salad and tossed it. I really wish I could say something good but this was a gross experience. For the prices I would expect some quality and my husband in bed instead of puking. Don't be fooled by the three stars. Riverbound is a solid option to satisfy and fill the void. If you want a spot that's good for groups, inexpensive, family friendly, a great value and delivers good, quick service, then Riverbound is a five star spot. Solid sandwich, entree and dessert menu, but really not spectacular food. Just traditional American fare. We will continue to go to RBC when in search of an inexpensive meal, comfortable booths, clean environment, small but relevant craft beer selection, and friendly service. However, it would never be our first or even second choice as the food is meh, the ambiance is standard small town strip mall, and the staff is not aware of what is in their meals. Being someone with dietary restrictions being able to ask if something is in a meal it is important that I get a response other than, "I don't know". All that being said, we will probably be back once or , especially for breakfast or a beer! UPDATE! I had the chicken and waffles everything was spectacular not real big waffle but crisp chicken breast makes up for that ! The food was fine, satisfactory I suppose, and my hunch is that I'd return again because you can't base everything on one meal. It's nearby where I live, so they earn points on convenience. (Read between the lines: I was hoping for a bit better ... My meal came out quickly, okay, but for some reason not hot. I was disappointed after my first bite, but decided to forge on.) My September 2017 visit ended in a sushi grade chicken horror show. Yes, chicken sushi. Nasty experience x3. Ordered a chicken dinner, with grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, and cornbread. Dinner came out and after a few bites of the chicken, I realized something was grossly wrong. Cut the center of the breast, and behold, sushi grade chicken. Pink as a Victoria's Secret shopping bag. Told the waitress and they took it, and brought back the same exact plate as I gave them. Except it was full of juices and the corn bread was now soaked. I think they stuck it in the microwave. Epic fail. I didn't eat that nastiness and promptly left. Will never go there again. Makes McDonald's seem like 4 star. read more

As regulars in the Mechanicsville community we have come to find the food here to be very consistent. However service we received last night was not so great. Our waitress appeared to be training someone but we weren't sure because we weren't told and the girl kept following her around. We only saw our waitress three times during the course of the meal- drink orders, food orders and eventually the check. We never got refills on our drinks. It took nearly 15 minutes after we finished eating to get our check. Then the girl who was following our waitress around all night came to retrieve the check and card. Our waitress seemed much more concerned with activity behind the bar including speaking with patrons at the bar. We've been coming here since it opened 15 years ago and this is by far the worst service we've ever had. This was reflected in the tip we left. read more

The poutine isn't quite legit. The cheesecurds are fried in this tater tot looking thing so it's not melting over the fries. The gravy was alright and the fries were pretty good and potato-y. The green onions on top was unconventional... I got the waffle with scrambled eggs and sausage. The waffle was a little harder than I would have liked but everything else was alright. We've had breakfast here a few times before and the food was pretty good. However, we tried for early dinner on a Friday, walked in to a near empty restaurant with no host/hostess in sight. Waited 10 minutes in the foyer and saw no staff whatsoever, so we left and took our business elsewhere. What a shame as we were looking forward to trying some dinner entrees! read more

The chicken sandwich was horrible it was rubbery and chewy and cold ! No one ever came over to ask how everything was or for a drink refill !
