I was at front side Café I bought an expensive salad with chicken. They never brought it out. Meanwhile, my daughter finished her entire meal. I finally told them and they said they had lost the ticket and they would remake it quickly. More than 10 minutes later, it was still not ready. My lunch break was used up. I decided to just get a refund and at that moment my solid came out in it to go box. I never even offered to refund it for me. As I was walking out they said, do you want a cookie? Um no. This place gets packed on the weekend and with good reason! They offer great service and great food. We showed up around 1030 on a Saturday and it was super busy. We got lucky and got a table pretty quickly. We ordered the açaí bowl, the cheddar chive bacon biscuit, the Aussie breakfast, and an orange juice. Everything was amazing. I think we will get an extra side of the potatoes next time because they were delish. We also got this wonderful flakey passion fruit dessert to go and it was heavenly. The staff was so nice and accommodating with our party that included two littles. I accidentally left my orange juice behind as we were leaving but quickly realized and tried to go back for it. Really wanted to like it, but the coffee was very watered down and the food was just ok. However, the staff was really friendly and kind! FOOD: Got an oat milk latte, chicken katsu sandwich, and chicken salt fries. We waited about 20 min for the food. Unfortunately, the oat milk latte tasted like mostly melted ice and oat milk with a hint of coffee :( The fries were good, though nothing exceptional. I had much higher expectations for the chicken katsu, but it was a bit too sweet and unseasoned. If you're familiar with katsu, sauce typically makes a big difference in flavor. This didn't really come with any nor did the chicken itself have a lot of flavor. PARKING: We parked on the streets. Didn't quite see a parking lot for the place, but there were spaces available on the street. I can see it getting packed on a busier day. Service was friendly but not knowledgeable, I asked about their sparkling beer that I've never tried before and she couldn't give me any info. I ordered the katsu chicken sandwich and it doesn't come with anything other than the sandwich. I ordered the fries. Got pricey with sandwich, fries and one beer. Happy I found a table and food arrived pretty quickly. Basket of fries was too much for one person so it would of been nice to have just a handful that came with sandwich. I was turned off by tiping at the register before I received service. , which wasn't the best. Our drinks sat on the drink window for sometime along with other orders beforethey were finally served. Was in town for a concert at the Ventura Music Hall, stayed at the Waypoint RV Park, and was told this place was a great spot for breakfast. Such a cool and clean place. We arrived just in time to get a seat at the bar. You order at the counter and the staff will bring your food to you. The service was attentive and quick for how busy they are. There is indoor and outdoor seating on a first come basis, but the seats open up pretty quickly, and it's worth the wait. Our breakfast was incredible! read more

Enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at Frontside Cafe today! Food was absolutely delicious. I tried the "Fresh Aussie" with smoked salmon, warmed spinach, roasted tomato slice, poached eggs, a delightful pistachio pesto and sourdough toast. My friends had the "Full Aussie" with smashed Yukon potatoes which I was told were wonderfully crispy and seasoned, and not dry but still moist on the inside. This also came with either bacon or a sausage. Will definitely try this next time. Wait time to order was less than 15 minutes and things seemed to flow much better than my previous visit. We were pointed out halfway in which table was reserved for us. After ordering, wait time for for food and beverage was propbably about the same. I greatly appreciate the the owner, Charne's communication over my previous poor experience, her explanation of that Sunday being the busiest since they had opened two years before, her willingness to accept a recommendation and the fact that she reimbursed me for the coffee that didn't arrive before we frustratingly left that cold day. Although I previously said "Never again", I am thankful I did come back. And will come back again and again, now that I have experienced a more normal Sunday morning and their wonderful menu. Give them a chance and I think you will understand why all the 5 star reviews. read more

Oof. What a fall from grace. I'm friendly. I tip well. I know this isn't happening from my end. Today's experience made Mr and I decide we won't be back. We had called in and ordered it to go, but when we arrived it wasn't ready so we thought we'll just dine in. I paid and tipped and we waited. And waited. When our food was ready, we received no utensils, no napkins. Both of our Coffees took even longer than the food (even though I called our order in over 20 minutes earlier!). And then my request for heavy oatmilk was skimpy at best. When I asked for more I received resistance. The owner, whom was nice to me on prior visits, was busy chatting it up w a group of girls in which the conversation revolved around being out too late the night before and too much tequila. This is what I paid and tipped generously for?! We felt so unwelcome and out of place on this visit. The avocado toast is good but NOT worth all the shortcomings. A little off the beaten path, but totally worth it. Hubby ordered the Kale Caesar Salad and I had the Fresh Aussie per Bailey's recommendation. The lox on the Fresh Aussie was delicious and their pesto is outrageous. Just put some of that in a bowl with a spoon and I'd be a happy camper. However, the Kale Caesar could have used a little more umami to balance the lemon in the dressing... Geez, I'm starting to sound like Tyler from The Menu so I better stop... I came here on a slow Thursday morning and sat on the patio with my dog (sign said to do so if you have a dog). I sat for about 15 minutes and finally got up to see if I could get someoneones attention but there was no one inside except a couple of customers. I tried again a few minutes late and this time waited inside for a while. Nobody. I worked myself towards the kitchen and saw a couple of e,ployees talking and laughing in the kitchen so I flagged them down politely and mentioned I would be sitting outside. This is when I was told I had to order at the counter. Ahh, OK, I didn't know that...first time customer...but no problem, sounds reasonable. Person 1 took my order, I paid and tipped, took my number and went outside. During this entire process, there was never a "Hello" or a "Thank you".. But I'm still fine. Enjoying the beautiful day. Person 2 brought my bagel and mimosa and set it on the table...never made eye contact..never said "Hello". Probably one of the coldest experiences I've ever had at a arestaurant. Same person walked ny later after i was finished to deliver food to another customer. She looked over at me and never made eye contact, never said a word. Just kind of a smug look. Now this is getting weird. I knid of would like another Mimisa but realized i would probably have to go to the kitchen and wave them down, then place my order at the register, and wait to have someone who clearly doesn't enjoy what they are doing, bring it out to me. No, thank you. I can only assume that the two people working here are close freinds or family of the owner because they came across as very entitled and unwilling to offer even a miniscule amount of freindly service. Arrived before morning breakfast rush on a Sunday and gave a 25% tip at the register before waiting over 30mins for a "Full Aussie" breakfast and an order of avocado toast. Multiple people who came in after my wife and I arrived had orders filled before we finally got our food and the kitchen had a full staff on hand. By the time the food arrived the morning rush had hit and in the over 30 mins it took to cook some bacon and eggs and toast bread we had one check in by waitstaff when they brought our drinks about 10 mins after ordering and still before the rush (at least two people waiting tables I saw for a place with a max capacity of around fifty seats). Long time customer over last couple years and have seen service and quality decline steadily over time. The tipping before service setup probably doesn't help give constructive feedback and certainly does nothing to encourage adequate service. The combination of a front end pay for service and a full restaurant wait time for just adequate food isn't worth it for us anymore with the better options in the immediate vicinity. Its too bad really, as it was a decent experience at one point. read more

Such a great local spot! My wife and I just visited Frontside Café today for the very first time. We had the pleasure of meeting Joel, the owner, and he is a great guy. The location is easy to get to, and close to the beach. Now let's talk about the food. I ordered the açai bowl and was actually the perfect size of a meal. They say it was very creamy. I don't know I was super tasty. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit that was there. My wife got the bacon and a couple pastries. She ordered the queens aman and Joel actually threw in the lumberjack muffin for her to try. She really liked the queens aman! She said it was better than anyone should ever had. Overall I would really recommend checking this place out. And the coffee was good to read more

Note: 4.5 stars, but still good nonetheless. A nice little cafe tucked around the corner where parking can be a bit hard, but pretty worth it for the effort I thought. It's a pretty open-concept where you walk up to order your food and a number is provided for you. To which your food/drink will arrive when it's ready. At the front of the ordering line, there are usually a few baked goods that you can choose from as well. The menu is largely the same, but the down under daily changes do change. In total, we had the toasted Japanese milk bread (goat's milk butter with cinnamon and sugar), Fresh Aussie (smoked salmon, poached eggs, avocado, spinach, pesto, tomato, and sourdough toast), tropical pancakes (ricotta pancakes, mango, passionfruit curd, coconut whipped cream, and lime maple syrup. We also had a Queen's Crown (forgetting the other name) and a chai tea latte and hot chocolate. In short summary, we were pleasantly surprised with the presentation of the food. The food looks amazingly appealing and the construct appeals to the eyes. Definitely a plus to have your food look so good! The quality of the food didn't fall far as well as I thought the quality of each ingredient in the fresh Aussie were able to stand out by themselves or even together if you mixed your bites. The smoked salmon was amazingly smooth to bite into and was a nice accompaniment with the pistachio pesto provided, which didn't taste like store bought, but home made. The poaches eggs were nice and runny. The spinach wasn't overcooked and tender to the bite. The sourdough toasts were the right thickness with a good amount of crunch. Again, individually, each ingredient stood out and were impressive individually and together. The tropical pancakes were just as amazing as well. Usually my wife loves to douse syrup on her pancakes, but the cream on top made her forgo that. She thought it was enough without the syrup as is and the pancakes were pleasantly moist. The mangoes were sweet and a good amount was provided as well. The goat butter in the Jap Milk bread was quite interesting. A bit strong for my wife, but I found it quite pleasant to have. The strawberry jam accompanying it was a bit too sweet for me, but that might be due to the taste contrast of the butter and the fresh aussie. The Queen's crown was more to my tasting in sweetness. It's shaped like a muffin, but the it's flaky like a croissant, but also had the crunch of a palmier cookie on the edges. Quite delectable little morsel in my opinion and probably would have it again. Although everything was great, the only drawback was our drinks. While the flavor was okay, the temperatures wasn't where we wanted them to be - hot. They were more warm and lukewarm. Not sure if the temps were intended or the barista had an off day. But, that didn't deter from the whole meal. All in all, definitely worth a try for your own opinions to formulate. We definitely enjoyed the breakfast there and hope to go back again to try new things. read more

YUMMY! Came for Aussie Pie and it was delicious Flakey pastry goodness. It has meat and mushrooms and really tasty gravy. It does have mushrooms in it- so if you are not a fan- maybe not the pie for you. Comes with a flavorful side salad that had radicchio and sprouts- perfectly light dressing that compliments the pie. I get why people flock to Frontside on the weekends, it's trendy and has a cool vibe plus it's dog-friendly...but that's kind of it. Great packaging for over-priced food and mediocre almost grumpy service, like they are too cool to be warm. I have been three times with a group. Each time I am reminded why I dislike the place. If I am going to spend the money I would recommend Immigrant Son on Main, better food and selection, excellent staff and the owner is always on-site welcoming guests. read more
