Walked right over to Dukes which is literally foot steps from the beach. To my surprise, not only was it pretty busy with the World Cup on every TV, but impressively, it didn't stop the service or kitchen from being super fast. Very impressive. I ordered to go this time so I could get back to parenting and enjoying the weather. Had to be quick so I could enjoy my time before it cools down and my sunburn fully sets in. I ordered the Gizmo which is basically a grilled chicken club on sourdough. It was great. Really don't have anything to add to that other than I would highly recommend it. Anyone who doesn't love a chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich might have some taste bud issues... It came with in-house made potato chips and those were also wonderful. I smashed that thing and literally went right to sleep in my chair. What a perfect beach day thanks to Dukes. To add to my food experiences and recommendations here, the time before this, I ordered the fish and chips. In my case it was the fried fish and sweet potato fries. It was so flavorful and crispy. I highly recommend eating it there or hopefully near by so it doesn't lose that fresh crunch. However, you have to get any and all fries with their Ranch. I had to get extra as I couldn't seem to get enough. Obviously every fry needed to have a disgusting amount of ranch on it. Finally tried out Duke's and happy I did. Ordered: BSM Burger=bacon, swiss & mushroom 5/5 (I had it without bacon) The burger was perfect. Juicy and all the right flavors. A little messy but very worth it. Good thing they give you a lot of napkins ! Burger came with chips so I substitute it with fries for an extra $2.50. 805 beer on drafts with a lime. 5/5 *alcohol orders are made separately at their bar in the back . There's plenty of seating options I love it. There's a few inside and out with the front sidewalk view. There's plenty in the back bar area . Then the back patio where you can get some sunlight . We had such a great stop at Dukes Beach grill. All the food was great, they have a huge menu that is sure to please everyone. We sat on the patio and it was such a fun vibe, they had board games, sports on the TV, and even water bowls for dogs. It isn't wise to use the restroom there, until you are completely done with your meal. I used it during my lunch, and came back to find my table cleared, and a couple sitting at it. My take-out was left at the front counter, and my cup for a re-fill was gone. The waitresses shouldn't assume that your finished, without asking. I am glad that I at least took my wallet and keys with me, those might have disappeared too! This is poor service and very rude. One of my go-to spots whenever I come to Ventura, Duke's always has great food, especially the soups. During a two-day getaway trip, I came to Duke's twice....first having the New England Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, then later, a grilled cheese sandwich paired with tomato soup in a bread bowl. Place your order at the counter and in no time, a server will bring your meal to your table . Seating is either inside or if you so choose, you can also sit at the bar or the front or back areas. Definitely a great place to stop for lunch if you're in the area! This was honestly some of the best fish and chips we've ever had. The batter was really flavorful and light, and the fries were perfectly cooked. There was a lot of fish and not too much breading which we appreciated. The clam chowder wasn't stellar so I'd probably order something else next time but the fish and chips more than made up for it. The vibe is very low key and relaxed and is really close to the water if you wanted to take a walk over after eating. Parking can be tricky so definitely give yourself enough time. read more

Food: We ordered the Kona chili, loaded fries with carne asada, and fish and chips. The food was alright, nothing too special. While the presentation was great, the taste of the food seemed lackluster. The Kona Chili (~$7) was the chili with a cup of rice in the middle. In my opinion, these didn't go well together and just didn't taste that good; I wish I got the chili bowl on its own. The loaded fries with carne asada (~$17) was the worst part of our meal. The fries were surprisingly dry and the cheese seemed hard and coagulated. It just seemed like it had already been sitting out for some time... It cost like an extra $4 or $5 to add carne asada, which was also dry and just didn't fit with the dish. The fish and chips (~$21) were good. The fish was well cooked and tasty. The fries again were dry. I don't know why I thought this but I expected a larger portion than what I had gotten for ~$21. Overall, my girlfriend and I did not enjoy the food as much as we had expected. The food wasn't bad but was just mediocre in my opinion. The food at other tables looked really good though so maybe we just ordered the wrong things... Service: This is one of those restaurants where you order and pay at the front in the beginning and they bring you your food and never see you again. It took us like 15-20 minutes to get our food and this was in the afternoon around 3 pm when it wasn't so busy... Ambiance: The ambiance is great and I can see this place popping when there's a good game going on. Busy bar as well. Seems fun. Overall, while the food was fine, it didn't meet our expectations and wasn't worth the price we paid for it. So many have tried and failed. Dukes Beach Grill is a true neighborhood legend and local hangout. Not even a pandemic could keep this joint down and i'm grateful. The menu offers a large variety of choices but no matter what you decide on do not pass on the homemade chowder. There are plenty of screens for the sports enthused, arcade games for the kiddos and super nice (remodeled) pet friendly patio. The bar area can get pretty congested, especially on evenings when there is live music or trivia in the house, but thats just part of the communal vibe. The staff always makes me feel welcome, appreciated and, well, special. The food is always good and reasonably priced. My wife is a big fan of the Cobb Salad and Chicken Quesadilla and I'm down with a BLAT sammie or some loaded potato skins I always think of Dukes Beach Grill first when I think about going out locally. I think this is my favorite place out in Ventura. We got there early and kicked things off with bloody marys. We sat outside, it was the perfect day to do so! The patio is small but quaint and service, outside was a little slow in getting the drinks but no complaints. For food, you order at the front. The crowd is mostly locals and people who want a casual drink spot with tvs and games for the kids. The decor is surfboards and ocean art. The vibe is laid back and relaxed, but the food is fresh, hearty and consistently delicious. The service is always great and nice. The staff seem happy there. I normally order a chicken or fish dish but my family loves the beef dishes as well. I ordered the chicken , cheese, avocado and grilled onions on ciabatta with a side of onion rings. Dukes was very laid back with so many options for sitting including a long bar. We ordered some fish tacos, a shrimp taco and a regular hamburger. The shrimp taco has the small shrimp which is not my favorite, but the fish was thick and delicious. It came with tortilla chips or fries.
