    Philly Cheesesteak eggrolls

What a cool little spot in the Strand! (Silverstrand Beach) Small place with a bar area and the dining area has plenty of seating. Nothing fancy... staff is very friendly! We enjoyed a couple beers, and I had a dirty martini which was good! My husband and I weren't too hungry so we only ordered a couple of things from the starters menu. The server was really helpful with recommendations so we went with the Rib Tips which were really good, definitely large enough for two people to share or make a meal out of. Priced at just under $20! Good deal! Also our server recommended the Philly Cheesesteak eggrolls. Sounds different? They were pretty good, served with a cheese sauce for dipping. We were a bit taken back by the way they served them? The presentation definitely lacked effort-and they tasted better than they looked! The cut pieces were a little mangled and thrown on a plate with the dipping sauce... needs some garnish, maybe try to serve on some fluffy green leaf lettuce? Also the portion was absolutely not appropriate for how much they charged! Almost $20! Definitely not worth it! We want to come back and try some of the entrees... their menu is huge with a wide variety of dishes to choose from! I recommend giving them a try!

Under new management within the last year so, this quaint little local gem is now called " The Strand Bar & Grill". It's a tiny little spot next to Kidde Beach, off the channel by Port Hueneme. I had a great experience with the host, Raegan. She was polite and helpful and took my phone in order quickly with an upbeat attitude (thank you). We ordered a Philly cheesesteak and a Tri-tip sandwich. The menus on Yelp were over 6 years old so we were really just hoping they had these sandwiches! But they did and we got the order in. The parking lot is barely more than an apron of pavement next to the building. Just enough for a few cars to park at steep angles. But there is a ton of street parking nearby. Besides, this is a walk in kind of joint for the neighborhood. Love the vibe inside. Small town, comfort and kindness. Wood floors. Folks hold the door for you. Ahhhh, just right. I saw a bunch of fresh menus on the counter at the host stand and thought I'd take the opportunity to get familiar with it. Along the way someone else would probably want to see the latest offerings so here they are attached. I wish I had taken photos of the food! It was dynomite!! But alas, we was hungry haha. It didn't last long enough for the camera. Take my word for it; it was money! We are coming back again very soon

Atmosphere was friendly, welcoming and fun. Food was great! Can't wait to bring my husband so he can enjoy the new place I found.

Old hole in the wall attracted me as a local steak and seafood place. Drinks are super strong. Waitress was amazing but,,,,, immediately seated. Lovely menu. Overpriced for what I ordered. Ribeye and and shrimp special. It took them over an hour to deliver my food to my table. The steak was thin and full of fat.

The Strand Bar & Grill is slowly renovating a local hang out. Their bar has been updated, sports are on, and the drinks are good! We came for breakfast today and it was delicious. From the French toast and bacon to the Eggs Benedict and omelette everything tasted amazing! The staff was friendly. The prices were fair. It wasn't too noisy or crowded. They have new owners and I'm sure they're going to get more popular - but right now it's the perfect place to go if you don't want a long wait. They have an excellent chef and a great location.

    Orange Roughy special!

They're open all day, so you can come in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, which makes it super convenient. As soon as you walk in, you'll notice a beautiful display of wine bottles, and you can clearly see the full bar ahead--definitely sets the tone that the drinks are going to be just as good as the food. Fabiola was our waitress, and she was incredibly sweet and attentive. She answered all of our questions (and we had a lot!), making the whole experience even better. We all started with coffee--because how could we not at breakfast? Unfortunately, their espresso machine wasn't working, so I went with a regular black coffee with creamer. It was actually pretty good! We didn't order any appetizers, but they have plenty of great options to choose from. For my meal, I ordered the ribeye sandwich, and wow--the meat was so tender and juicy, full of flavor, and the portion was perfect. I could honestly eat this every day. My sister had the chilaquiles, which were highly recommended by the staff, and they definitely lived up to the hype. The only thing is we wished they were a little more saucy, as they were slightly on the dry side. My sister-in-law ordered the big breakfast, which comes with two of everything--huge portions and definitely worth it. Now let's talk about the pancakes... they offer both regular pancakes and Mexican-style pancakes, which are thinner--but honestly, so much better. I cannot stress enough how amazing they were. I absolutely fell in love and would come back just for those alone! Overall, such an amazing place. Highly recommend!

Then I wouldn't even bother mentioning it. We had a great Valentine's Day brunch at Hollywood Beach Cafe!…read more We joined the Yelp waitlist while walking over from our hotel and ended up waiting only about 25 minutes for a table around 10am, honestly impressive for Valentine's Day. The process was super easy and made the wait feel seamless. We were seated on the "outdoor" patio, which was absolutely delightful. It's covered, so it feels like you're inside, but it's still open-air and pup friendly, which we loved. They even have a pup menu and bring out little metal water bowls. Our doggo was living his best life. The menu is large with tons of options. We initially tried using the QR code (which is great because it includes photos), but ultimately asked for a paper menu, sometimes it's just easier to flip through. My husband ordered The California (eggs, bacon, and pancakes). This breakfast also comes with toast and your choice of potatoes. We upgraded to the chili cheese tots, thinking it was just a small upcharge from the standard side, and didn't realize until we got back to the hotel that we were charged $8 for them, which was a bit disappointing. That said, the tots were tasty (just eat them quickly because they cool off fast!). His eggs were cooked perfectly, but the $3.50 upcharge to add blueberries to the pancakes felt steep, and the bacon was mostly fat and a bit overcooked. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with poached eggs, and the eggs were absolutely perfect. The dish was bursting with flavor. My only critique was that the beans were a bit too liquid-heavy, which made the tortilla very soggy, I couldn't finish as much as I would've liked because of that. The Bloody Marys, though? So good. Highly recommend! We both loved them. Our server was pleasant and friendly. Oh and there was a Char Man hot sauce on the table that was EPIC! Overall, we would definitely come back, we'd just try a few different menu items next time... except for the Bloody Marys. Those are a repeat order for sure.

BBQ Worth Fighting Over at Smokin Jay's BBQ & Coffee from Potheads Coffee…read more My wife and I recently stopped by Smokin Jay's BBQ and paired it with a visit to Potheads Coffee, and it turned into one of those meals you end up talking about long after you leave. From the first bite, it was clear this spot takes their BBQ seriously. Entrées: We started by ordering a brisket plate, which came with about 1/4 lb of brisket, roughly six solid pieces, along with macaroni salad and baked beans. Our original plan was to share, but that quickly changed after the first few bites. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right with that perfect balance of smoke and juiciness. It didn't take long before we realized sharing wasn't going to cut it. So my wife went back up and ordered a brisket sando with fries, and it absolutely delivered. The sandwich came loaded with brisket, pickles, slaw, and sauce, all working together perfectly. The fries were a great side, crispy and a solid pairing with the sandwich. Sides: The macaroni salad and baked beans that came with the plate were both on point. The mac salad was creamy and complemented the richness of the brisket, while the baked beans added that sweet and savory depth you want with BBQ. Sandwich Details: The sando really stood out, especially with the addition of the slaw. My wife usually isn't a fan of coleslaw, but this one changed things a bit. It wasn't overpowering and added a nice crunch and balance to the sandwich, tying everything together without taking away from the brisket. Drinks and Service: Grabbing coffee from Potheads Coffee alongside the meal was the perfect move. What really stood out, though, was the service. Jay, the owner, was walking around checking in on customers and genuinely engaging with everyone. He even helped my wife decide on a coffee based on what she usually orders at Starbucks, which was a great personal touch. He later stopped by our table, chatted with us for a bit, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and personal. Ambience: The atmosphere strikes a great balance between laid back and lively. It has that casual, welcoming BBQ spot feel where you can relax, enjoy your food, and not feel rushed. Pairing it with Potheads Coffee adds to the experience, making it feel like more than just a meal but a spot you can hang out and enjoy. Overall: Smokin Jay's BBQ is hands down the best BBQ spot I've had in Ventura County so far. Between the quality brisket, well put together sides, standout sandwiches, and the personal touch from the owner, it's an easy recommendation. Pair it with Potheads Coffee, and you've got yourself a top tier Ventura food stop that's definitely worth coming back to.
