Tried this lovely restaurant for the first time during happy hour on a Monday. We loved sitting on the patio with our dog! They have leashes attached to the wall which makes it a much more pleasant/hands-free dining experience with a pup. The area was clean as well so I didn't worry about him eating food off the floor. The service was fast and friendly. Knocked down one star for the Ginja roll we ordered -- just really didn't match the description on the menu. Ugh! Another disappointing meal here! We ordered the captain's seafood broiler $45!!! Major false advertising for this meal! As described "jumbo sea scallops and jumbo wild king prawns" ...and a 4oz halibut fillet. Ok so the 3 scallops were raw and the 4 "jumbo king prawns" were tiny. Not sure what they were? THEY DEFINITELY WERE NOT JUMBO KING PRAWNS! Small shrimp is what they were! We asked our server Javier who was such a nice guy and attentive throughout our meal THANK YOU!! We asked if we could have the scallops cooked more and he kinda chuckled and brought over a small plate and took the remaining 2 back to the kitchen. He brought out the most delicious scallops on a skewer, in a nice little ceramic boat/dish with this amazing creamy buttery sauce! My only question is? Why? Why didn't the cooks make it this way the first time? Seriously restaurant quality is not what it used to be! I really don't want to just chalk it up to "These are the times we live in" but back in the 80's/90's when I worked in the restaurant industry this wasn't acceptable. Just saying. Boatyard? I encourage you guys to up your game! I hope the owner or management reads these reviews I've left over the years? We've had some concerning issues with past dining experiences and no one has ever connected with me about them? And yet we keep coming back with the HOPE that things are better! SERVICE: Located right at the pier. The parking rules are different now, haven't been around for a bit. Live music and across from ice cream if you dare to force more into your belly. Decent view of the water from where I sat. Servers, though rotated literally 4 times on us, were fine. FOOD: Really enjoyed my fish and chips. Fish was battered well and the fries were nice and hot. My mom and I got seated right away and they even have a bluegrass band playing which was wonderful. We got some drinks and they also brought waters. All of the servers were very friendly. Our waitress told us her favorite was the Hawaiian Ahi poke appetizer and it was amazing! My mom doesn't normally like raw fish but she tried it and loved it. We ordered fish and chips and I got the grilled cod with rice pilaf. And my favorite off all the items was definitely the Hawaiian Ahi poke then the fish and chips. The batter on the fish and the flakiness of the fish was perfect. The poke was perfectly seasoned and tender. We also shared a cup of clam chowder and the clams were tender not chewy at all!! The only thing that was just ok was the grilled fish. It was under seasoned and overcooked. The pilaf was yummy. I still ate the grilled fish because I don't like to waste food but I needed to season and add tartar sauce and I never like to use tartar sauce. Great food, great location, great vibes, what more could you want for a Sunday brunch? Don't look any further because Boatyard pub hit all those marks for me this past weekend. Located on Ventura Harbor with plenty of parking on site. 1st hour of parking is free when you scan the QR codes posted through out the lot, you will need to pay after the 1st hour. Just a heads up on this. This resteraunt has a great menu with a nice variety. Prices are ok, your on the beach what can you expect. They recently got renovated so the restseraunt is really nice and modern. My service here each time has been good. This last time I grabbed an order of calamari and a beef crunchy taco and they both were INCREDIBLE. The calamari was cooked to perfection and such a large order. The beef taco was incredibley flavorful and probably the best beef tacos I've had in Ventura county. Overall the food here is very tastey so come on down here and give them a try. read more

3 years later and boatyard pub is still one of my fave places to grab a drank and apps when the sun is out and the fresh air is coming in through their patio. We ordered : Cup of clam chowder always hits the spot for me here. When I feel like splurging I'll have it in their bread bowl. 5/5 Calamari was cut and battered light just the way I like it but it was a bit on the greasy side like others had mentioned. Nothing that would stop me from ordering again though. 4/5 Ganja roll was not it for me. It sounds like a sushi roll but definitely is nothing like sushi. It's tuna, rolled with shiso leaf and tempura battered them fried. It was very bland on its own but a little better when double dipped in their sesame fire sauce and ginger ponzu . 3/5 Spinnaker's hot crab dip was so creamy and delicious on its own but then I topped it with a side of their coleslaw (the one that comes with their fish n chips and not their Asian coleslaw) and it was even better! Don't knock it till you try it .5/5 Fish n chips in my opinion is pretty good here. It's lightly battered and not too greasy . Fish is juicy and tartar sauce just right . That coleslaw is perfect with it . 5/5 Mai tai hit the spot. Not too sweet nor too tart . 5/5 Cucumber mojito was a good refreshing balance of cucumbers, mint, lime rum and spritzer. 5/5 Service is usually always good. When they get busy they get busy . Came here with my dog this morning at 11am. Not busy at all especially the patio area. The hostess sat us right in the sun. I had to chain my dog to a wall and she could barely get to the shade. I had to scoot the table over so I can put a chair over her to just shade her. And I got a massive ridiculous list of 'dog rules' on top of that which made us feel very unwelcome and other dog owners are feeling this way per the reviews further down. If you're going to be this strict about dogs. Just say you aren't dog friendly anymore. I almost felt like I'd have to ask if it was ok to pet my own dog at one point with all the rules. read more

Probably one of my go tos when at the Ventura Harbor. My sisters and I love holiday themed bars this December boatyard had those cool Christmas drinks and nice holiday decoration. The drinks are pretty strong and good. We also ordered fries which were so good and the calamari were actual calamari. None of that fake stuff. Staff was nice even though we stopped in an hour before they closed. I love the new patio, but it was too cold for us to sit outside when we went. This was our first visit since they renovated the space, as we were having a Meet Up event there. I used to come here often, but it's been a while, the space is now larger than before, so we were able to hold our big party there. As always, there was a live band playing and we had a great time. I ordered my favorite "Crispy Brussels Sprouts," but it seems like the portion is larger than before and the price has gone up. Originally wanted to go to Brophy Brothers but it was a Saturday around 6pm and the wait was an hour. Ended up at the pub and ordered clam chowder (ok), crab dip (good) but came with bread that would have done better toasted or somehow crispier. Order seafood combo with fish (ok), shrimp (over cooked) and scallops (good). They had music so we asked to be seated away and they accommodated. Service was ok. Could have gotten something similar at Red Lobster cheaper and my biggest gripe was cost of well drink being same as specialty drinks. Will not be going back. read more

Staff is very welcoming. immediately seated despite the business being busy and being a single patron. Server immediately took my drink order and talked me through the menu in which case I was able to order dinner at the same time. I ordered steak and scallops skewered and an IPA. Awkward: the restaurant has no restrooms. you have to lea e and walk a 100 feet to a public facility. The Filet Mignon was supposed to come on skewers medium rare but came as a 6oz. I pointed it out and it took 10 minutes to reprepare. it came back with sesame and a sauce and was now well done. Scallops are now cold but flavorful. I'm disappointed that a $55.00 6oz surf and turf came with 3 one inch round Scallops as the "surf". I asked ahead of time how many Scallops came with the meal and tge response was "market price". They both taste fine. Not bad, not great, but fine. It's about 1930 and I now understand that people come here for the bar. I guess I expected something more. I went out of my way to come here. free parking Monday through Thursday. not sure about cost. The server is very attentive and has been by multiple times. This place is okay. Stopped by here for the first time this weekend with my dog. It's by Ventura harbor, so a cute little area to walk around, pretty view, dog friendly of course. Parking: Paid lot, $1/hour for a max of 4 hours and then I think it was $10 for the day. Scan the QR code in the parking lot and pay on your phone. Seating: They have 2 patios (front and back) which are both dog friendly. We sat on the front patio which is fully enclosed and had the host not referred to it as a patio, I would have assumed it was just part of the indoor restaurant at a glance. Dog Friendly: My biggest gripe with this place and the reason I will not return is while they allow dogs, they require them to be stuck under the table, against the wall. Basically out of sight like some kind of vampire gremlin that can't see the sun. Their tables are not set up to have a whole dog underneath, especially if you have 2 or more people at the table. There is not enough room for feet, the dog, dog's water, and dog's food. What made this even more annoying is, 1) it wasn't busy on the front patio at all, and 2) the table diagonal from us had a toddler rolling around on the floor in the center of the walkway. Service: The host was very nice and friendly. Our server was polite but seemed to have the personality of a napkin. He hovered for the drink order, quickly returned for a food order, and right after ordering an appetizer, immediately returned to see if we wanted anything else. Already annoyed with the dog situation, I told him no (which was not the original plan). He snatched up the menus and couldn't be found until he brought the check. Food: I had the $20 medium crab dip appetizer which was okay, nothing memorable but nothing bad. The star was my dog's Surf N Turf dish with angus beef, wild cod, rice, and veggies for $13. I thought the price for hers was reasonable based on the quantity. They had several other options on the dog menu as well. One other thing to note, they call their fries "freedom fries" - maybe another reason not to return, if I needed one. read more

First Visit to Boatyard Pub Tried out Boatyard Pub for the first time today for lunch with my twin sons. Honestly, the food was just okay--not bad, but it wasn't great. We definitely discovered that this spot leans much more into the "pub" side of things than a traditional restaurant. A few things to note from our experience: * The Highlights: The strawberry lemonade was very good! * The Vibe: Apparently, it's a "dog" pub! We noticed dogs inside the restaurant, not just on the patio. * Service: Our server only checked on us once. We even asked for a water pitcher since we drink a lot of water, but it didn't happen. * The Wait: The wait for the food was a bit more than the usual. * Facilities: Be prepared for a little walk--you actually have to go outside to use the restrooms. Nice little find at the Ventura Harbor. Enjoyed a couple of drinks, including a tasty Lychee Martini and a Cranberry Mule, and also had a happy hour poke dish which was delightful and a side of garlic fries. The garlic fries were really more like Parmesan fries versus garlic fries, but nonetheless still tasty. This is the FIRST negative review I have ever felt compelled to posted on YELP. Would be zero stars if I could. Not sure what happened to the Boatyard Pub, but it has definitely changed, and not for the better. Have been going there at least monthly since they first opened. Several things have changed: 1. We sat at our table for more than 30 min before we managed to get a waiters attention. 2. Portion size has gotten smaller although the food is still reasonably good. 3. And most significant, is that the management is less concerned about customer satisfaction and keeping long-time loyal customers and more concerned about the silly new rules the put in place that made us feel like second graders in a class room that did something wrong. Our friends, who had just spent $150 on dinner for themselves moved to to an open table in the bar to listen to music. Within minuets were asked to leave because they weren't buying anything (I was buying for them) and because they changed tables. Apparently, you can't eat in the restaurant and then move to an open table in the bar to have an after-dinner drink to hear music. Management should be changed ASAP. We won't be going back, nor will others who walked out tonight, in spite of the great music they have. Too bad! Used to be a great place. Suggest you spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. read more

Went for breakfast while rigging our bikes so we went for liter fair menu and it was perfect size for two or us it was I to $28 very good price for breakfast. The service was spot on super friendly. I haven't been here for years and decided to try again - love the remodel - very nice. I also love the live music. The drinks are good - and they have a good selection. What I don't love is the food - it's overpriced and just not great. The price of the remodel is definitely reflected in the cost of the food. The blonde bartender on the morning weekend shift was so rude. She also wouldn't even listen or take an order in between the breakfast and lunch turnover time. We sat for over 30 minutes before she would think about placing an order. She had a snarky response to everyone she was talking too. A mature woman with a messy updo ponytail thing going on. She should definitely be fired or retrained. I'm Still driving the OAP's thats an British term for... I was directed to stop here in the Ventura Marina because there are several choices for dinner. No questions asked I'm a Pub Guy. Happy Hour is a good time to be here, a pleasant atmosphere, good (live solo guitar) music, golf or soccer on the screen, and a friendly staff. The pub looks pretty clean for a place thats supposed to have a divey Pub genera, I'm in. I'll try the clam chowder and some Halibut fish and chips, with coleslaw. All of this is on my go to page, so lets see...Chowder could have been hotter temperature for me but outstanding flavor and good mix of potato to clams. I was surprised how good the halibut and chips looked, they tasted even better and very good slaw. Four decent thick strips of Halibut & thick 1/4" fries. The slaw had a good mix of purple cabbage and it was all cut very fine, string like, with a good dressing. Tartar sauce no doubt made here too, good stuff. There was a steak (filet) and lobster special for $30, you won't pay that if you made it yourself. We were here for a girls trip. We stayed on a boat and came here to eat for breakfast, dinner and just for the drinks. The atmosphere was great, it was decorated for St Patty's day. Our bartender, waitresses and waiters were all very friendly. Food came out quick and delicious. I highly recommend. read more

Despite our previous positive experiences, our recent visit to this restaurant was disappointing. The shrimp tacos were like cabbage tacos with minimal shrimp, and the $27.00 price for two tacos and a cup of cold chowder was excessive. The sauce was diluted, and the clam chowder and fries were cold. Our waiter was courteous but rushed us, diminishing our dining experience. The restaurant seemed to be trying to be fine dining with the prices, but cutting corners in every aspect, including staff, ingredients, and portion sizes diminished the effort. I'm giving two stars, mostly for past experience and the potential for improvement. read more

Great Place in Ventura Harbor Village! The fried halibut, cod and bay scallops were very good, but the cioppino (seafood stew) was the best I've had - delicious and very plentiful. Not great for views - it's in an interior courtyard - but very nice outdoor seating, and live music that was also very good. Even the kid's cheeseburger was great quality. Many year coming here. Used to be a great experience. We got there early. No one in line at the Hostess station. Few in the restaurant. The new "management woman" apparently needs to go take some customer service training. Walked up to the hostess station, asked if we could sit at a table in the bar area making sure it was not reserved. She said she did not understand so I asked her to follow me to the table we wanted for 5 people. It seated 6. She then admonished me that I needed to go to the Hostess station in Front where the Hostess was standing. All I had done is ask a simple question, "are you able to help us" as I walked to the side of the station with no one in line. It went downhill from there. God forbid you spend hundreds of dollars at a table and have the audacity to move to the bar area where there is music b/c you cannot hear it from the back areas at all anymore. I thought I was back in Catholic School with this newer manager. The amount of rules to go have a good time far outweigh any possible thing this place could offer. Others around us reported the same and said they would never be back. Some have also been going for years. Let alone not getting a waiter at the table for almost 1/2 hr. But we were fearful of going to the bar to get a drink in the meantime. We probably would have gotten our knuckles smacked with a ruler. I quit Catholic School for a reason. Do not need it at a Restaurant we used to love. I hope other post as well. Silence is not Golden. This management needs to get a clue and only by great patrons leaving will they learn. read more

Went to Boathouse Pub on a Wednesday night for their steak and lobster special. It was absolutely delicious. It was so festive with all the Christmas decorations and they had live music. it was packed and they had a lot of employees working and the service was great. I can't wait to go back. read more
