So the wife and I came down to Ventura for a Friend's Wedding and the atmosphere here is beautiful. Got a great view of the water while eating lunch. The service was wonderful and the staff was very friendly! I got a Fish Taco, and Clam Chowder. My wife got the Oysters Rockefeller and the Clam Chowder. Talk about really good comfort food. The next time I come to Ventura, I'm gonna make sure that I stop by this place again. So well worth the price that you pay. read more

Best of the best in the USA for us, has gotta be Sail Loft in Boston, MA. But locally in our neck of the woods of Ventura County where would you go for yummy New England chowdah? Our fam's local fave is here at Boatyard Pub in the Ventura Harbor! Easy to get to and parking is only a challenge on the weekends. Friendly and helpful staff. Inside is a dark wood with lots of windows, gives the impression we are aboard a clipper ship without all the rocking! No seasickness here so we can enjoy the food! Let's eat :) GARLIC PARMESAN FREEDOM FRIES: Yummy appetizer! REAL garlic is used here and you could smell it when it landed on our table. Mmmmm! The fries are plentiful and the thick version... Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Definitely shareable. Now that we know they prepare this well, we will ask for extra garlic next time! lol My table kept trying to hoard all the garlic on each one's fries :/ NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER: (Sourdough Bread Bowl Option) THIS is, imho, BEST IN Ventura County FOR SURE! You can tell there was a lot of effort to create this! Not just some watered down version overwhelmed with potatoes, no sir-ee! Perfectly creamy soup with lots of chunky clam pieces that aren't chewy at all. The soup is absolutely flavorful as well. Then there's the Sourdough Bowl they use here. It is light and fluffy, not dense in any sense, yet still able to hold the magic concoction without ending being all sogged up. Truly palate pleasing! SPINNAKER HOT CRAB DIP: We got the large size to share and it comes piping hot to the table. Lots of pieces of bread to pile ample amounts of dip on each one. Dip is thick and filled with a whole latta crab chunks. Also quite flavorful. Love the browning over the top. Definitely something to repeat order on every visit. CALAMARI & CHIPS: Pretty big basket of stuff! The fried calamari is prepared just how our family likes it. Crisp batter and cooked enough that it isn't chewy in any sense. Plentiful amount of both fries and calamari. Cocktail sauce has a nice tartness to it. This did not last long lol BOATYARD PUB FISH & CHIPS: 4 pieces of cod. Such a vibe! Very local spot. Came for lunch during the week so didn't try their cocktails but they all looked very good. People were here really just enjoying life. Service was good and their patio is pup friendly which is a big plus for me. Food was great. Mom had a shrimp taco (they are big) and I got the tofu poke bowl which was huge!!! We have enjoyed dining at the Boatyard Pub and Grill for many years! The food/fish was always fresh and delicious, and the service was equally as good!! Such a delightful place! Just recently they closed for what seemed like forever!! Not really, but we sure missed the grilled shrimp tacos, halibut& scallops, and clam chowder. We were so excited to see that they were open again!! We went on a Sunday evening, and the band was playing so loud that it was obnoxious, in the parking lot! So we left, I looked on their website to see if they had a night that was NOT dominated by the bar, the bands, the drinking and dancing.. So very disappointed to hear that they have bands EVERY NIGHT!! So if you are looking for good food, and a quiet dining establishment, Im sorry to say that we have lost one of the best, in our are!! Service was very good. There was a bluegrass band playing in the patio area which was a bit noisy but entertaining. I had the blackened sockeye salmon which I thought was overcooked. Sockeye, being a trout, is thinner than a real salmon and easy to dry out during cooking. There was also too much salt in the seasoning. The restaurant is in the Harbor Village. Great food! The crab dip rocked. The calamari was the best I've ever had on the west coast. The ahi poke bowl hit it out of the ballpark with its fresh ingredients. Nice variety. The menu had a lot of options to choose from. Something for everyone's taste buds. The service was attentive. Javier came and greeted our table and remembered that our friends family comes in most weekends for the breakfast burritos. That was really nice to see. Our Brother took us to a great Lunch at Boatyard Pub. Jules was super friendly and great service . Mark her assistant was super attentive as well :) Loved the cool decor very laid back . We ordered A 805 Beer and I had a Spicy Bloody Mary . We were wanting tacos . My hunny tried the Parmesan Beef Tacos which were so good ! I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Tacos . Super fresh and tasty ! We had the Clam Chowder as a side . Which was super great ! They offer a charging station near the bar as well . That's complimentary. Boatyard pub was a cute little pubb-ish restaurant/bar. My parents and I were craving sea food so we decided to come here since we have never gone. My parents both go the Captain's Combo and loved it! I really loved how crispy their calamari legs were! I ended up getting the seafood soup (honestly i think the name is something different but can't think of it). It was packed with flavor and loved the added bread to soak up the tomato based soup. My parents got a beer and I had a Bloody Mary! It was delicious but realized I was eating a tomato based soup and a tomato based drink lol Didn't like the combo. All in all, great place to come and get sea food. Not sure what night life would look like but it's a nice place for lunch! read more

The new build is nice but since they have completed it some things have def changed. Their portions have gotten considerably smaller and the food has been less tasty. We've been coming for years and the chili shrimp appetizer used to be six shrimps, now down to five (which is an odd number for sharing and the price). The poke salad dinner portion plate size was cut in half and the last few times we came there was no seasoning or seaweed salad added to it at all plus the fish was warm. This has happened the last few times we've been. I hope that things pickup again and it was just bad luck and/or a new chef. The fish tacos were very good but again the French fry portion was cut in half at least. The new build looks great but especially with paying for parking on the harbor now on the weekends, it's very expensive for what you receive. Will keep trying and hopefully things turn around. read more

Can't say enough great things about this place. We went for my mother in laws birthday and had the BEST time. The attention to detail was spot on. They really went above and beyond. This is the best food in the harbor. All the ingredients are fresh, and the menu has it all. We come here all the time, and the vibe is always great. The servers and bartenders are so friendly and kind to my kids. I'd say this is the best breakfast in all of Ventura, but you also don't want to miss their Wednesday night dinner special. Came here after a long walk with our family and pup on a Monday morning. We were so hungry so this place had the perfect patio to enjoy the morning. There was only one server who was also running the bar so service was a little slow. However, she was fantastic-- super funny and made us feel like family. She also made a mean ass Bloody Mary!! I have been a local at this establishment for over 15 years. We love coming here. We've had so many great experiences here. The last month we have tried to come here numerous times put our name in, quoted a time. Tonight we were quoted a 40 minute wait at 6:15. It's now 830. I've tried to call several different times and told that we are on the waitlist, the last time I called at 7:30. They told me I'm two parties behind. We just came at 8:30 to check our time and they said that they called us but that the phone number didn't go through? I asked them to show me where they called me on their caller ID and they said that it only goes back to five people? Anyway, the whole thing was so unfortunate and ridiculous. I will never be coming back here again. It's so sad. We talked to several local people who were also trying to get into have dinner tonight and they also shared the same frustration. What a bummer. It was noontime, my friend and I walked into the restaurant. We were greeted right away, and asked if we wanted inside or patio seating. We sat outside. We shared the fish and chips. It was fresh fish, crunchy outside and plenty of fresh cod on the inside. The fires are cooked and seasoned , and the coleslaw tastes good. We were checked on a couple times. Had breakfast this morning around 10:30 before walking the art festival. Was greeted nicely by the hostess who seated me right away. The place was packed already, many partaking in the alcohol. I had the eggs Benny which was very good. I think there was a dusting of cayenne pepper on top, which gave it a nice kick! Hash-browns were nothing special, neither was the iced tea. They stop serving breakfast at 11. My waiter was nice, but didn't get his name. All in all I'd probably gone back and try lunch. read more

We tried several clam chowders the past few days while visiting the SB area and honestly this was the best one so far. There were more clams and bigger sized pieces than experienced elsewhere. They also toast and grill the bread bowls so they get props for proper serving of a sourdough bread bowl. I ordered a cup of chowder and the halibut, scallops and fries meal and I couldn't finish all of it. I really enjoyed the scallops the most. But next time I would probably just want to try a burger or just the clam chowder bread bowl. Service was good and the place seems to be a favorite spot by the local fishermen and sailors. read more

In this case it's that group of people that tend to tout the in thing) my friend tried the POSEIDON'S PUBHOUSE RUEBEN . Pricey. It has to rank as one of the worst Reuben sandwiches ever. Rank meat. Lowest grade. And the sauerkraut, Russian dressing and cheese was simply gross. I ordered the FRESH LOCAL HALIBUT Blackened. You can do better anywhere else. Small. Dry. Tasteless. I have been going to the boatyard for many years for great drinks, food and dancing to bands. A few weeks ago I went by myself thinking how safe I felt there. Saw a friend and had a very bad experience with a waitress. We both have Never been treated so rudely in our life. Again I went with my friends and another waitress got very upset that we went and ordered drinks at the bar when we were sitting at a high top just by the bar. I asked the bartender ti put our drinks on her table but apparently they were worked something out together and I gave her a table use tip. I respect waitresses as I have been one. This possessiveness was never there before the addition. I would still like to go there but am not very comfortable anymore. Was one of my favorite places. May try to just sit at bar but when owner and management was approached they stood by the waitress that was so rude. Minimally should have gotten an apology but she lied about what she said and he believed her over the customer. Sad for me and apparently 8 other people that refuse to return because of rude service. Plus 3 of my friends I usually go there with. We will choose differently now. read more

We've been here a few times now (both for breakfast and for lunch), and the food is always good. For breakfast, they make a really good Bloody Mary, and the California Crab Benedict are delicious - you can tell that the fish is fresh which just adds to the overall flavor. For lunch, the calamari is a good choice for appetizer & the chipotle sauce for dipping just brings it to that next level. Their fish in general is good - my husband particularly liked the Shellfish Delight as it provides a good variety of fresh shellfish. While the food is good, this is the restaurant we eat at while already at the harbor trying to decide what to eat - it's not one of our destination restaurants. They have a full bar here with a variety of beers, wines, and specialty cocktails. They make a good margarita here - I particularly liked the Strawberry Margarita Fresca. Since the restaurant is on the harbor & beach, parking has the potential to be rough when you go. However, we have never had a problem finding decent parking to eat here. read more
