We've been to plenty of fancy restaurants in OC and LA but this place probably beats out majority of them. The food here is absolutely AMAZING. We came here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We each ordered a cocktail. She got a blueberry margarita and I got a cucumber gin mixed drink. Both were refreshing and delicious. We ended up ordering another round. For appetizers we ordered the crispy maple Brussels and tuna & salmon tartare. The Brussels were fried to perfection and glazed a sweet maple syrup. It also came with thick cuts of bacon. Definitely recommend this. For the tartare, it was also delicious and fresh. It was mixed with avocado and turnip. We thought the turnip would be off putting but it actually meshed well with the flavors. Came with fried wonton chips. For the main course we shared the NY strip and Lobster Malfaldine. The steak was cooked to perfection with a very nice sear and flavored well. Probably one of the better steaks I've ever had. Definitely beats out any steakhouse steak. The Lobster Malfaldine was also absolutely delicious. Most of the time, lobster pasta is usually a bit bland and lacking in lobster. NOT HERE. They included big chunks of lobster and the sauce was so good. Lastly, we ended our dinner with the Strawberry Hand Pie. This is basically a warm strawberry strudel with vanilla bean ice cream. They used locally sourced strawberries and I'm still thinking about it as I'm writing this review. Adrienne was our server and she was very nice and attentive. Service was terrible. Upon requesting our server to come to our table after not seeing her for 40 minutes...yes 40 minutes, she came out with attitude and full of sass. Took over an hour to get our meals which all came out cold. This place has potential as the ambiance is nice but the service and customer service is subpar. Will not be coming back That was breakfast ....Oh and dinner the evening before. Steak was terrible, took them twice to get it right and then we were met with zero accountability. Something different for sure! This restaurant is located inside the Mandalay Beach Hotel. There is public parking in the lower parking structure under the hotel. You have to get your ticket validated. The restaurant is beautiful, and spacious with couch like seating. They were able to accommodate my party of 10, which is not easy for a fancy restaurant. The menu is small and different. Appetizers and drinks are good!!! This spot is very pricy but worth it, for special occasions. Our waiter was Maddy, she was okay. I definitely expect the staff and especially the waiters to be out going and people friendly. She never smiled, and looked bored. I gotta admit, it takes a strong person to attend to a large party. She was not the one! Large party's can be tough, but the server should be loud and command the table. Speak clear, and ask ask the questions. Do you need, anything, can i get anyone anything, more water, any refills, etc... None of this was done. Basic restaurant 101!!! I know, because I worked in a restaurant. I believe if the tips are based on the total bill, then the server should definitely be asking all these questions. She didn't even ask about dessert. We the table had to ask her for everything!! The most important part of the dinner is your waiter or waitress. Personality is everything, and makes the experience more enjoyable, especially when the restaurant is expensive.!!! This is a very fancy place. Risotto was a disappointment, under cooked and lacking in taste. Brussels Sprouts with pork belly was a great combo. Beet Salad 2 kinds (red and golden). I liked the golden more, softer and sweeter. Pork chop was topped with stewed apples. It was thick with little crisp. I enjoyed it. It's good and convenient being right in the heart of the resort. But it's pricey and nothing blew me away. The kids menu is lacking she ended up with buttered noodles . I had the muscles which were in a mild coconut curry broth- it was good but didn't feel substantial would have been absolutely perfect with a small side salad. We also got a bacon cheeseburger which was topped with thick cut but fatty bacon. Without alcohol it came to $120. Which we were able to apply our daily resort credit to but had it not been on properly I wouldn't go. read more

I went to this hotel and Restaurant on Saturday , because it was hot in the San Fernando valley and I wanted to cool off. I met my friend who lives in the Oxnard area, so it work out great for both of us. We sat at the outside bar area . The vibes were great , friendly people around the Bar too. But what made it more pleasant were the three bartenders that waited on us over four hours . Watching them make drinks and they were all friendly telling us what drinks they were making . We had a great time . These Bartenders were Tara, Michelle, and manny . You couldn't ask for nicer people to serve you . Thank you so much the three of you Keep up the good work . Food was GREAT. salmon and tuna tartare was a bit salty. But every other plate we had was amazing. This place does potatoes WELL. We had the crispy potatoes for dinner and for lunch the next day with our breakfast and it was still amazing. The dinner options were phenomenal, and we had the burger, pancakes and regular egg plate for brunch the next day. The burger had brisket which was crazy good, would say the pancakes were WAY too sweet, we scraped off all the lemon curd drizzle thing on top but other than that everything was great! read more

Located inside Zachary Dunes Hotel you will find this resteraunt with such a great vibe. A little bit on the expensive side but you are on the beach in Southern California. If your not staying at the hotel there is resteraunt parking, you can ask valet and they will guide you on where to park. This resteraunt has a full bar and resteraunt and I got to try a few items during my 16 night stay here. Tha guacamole appetizer was fresh and flavor each time I had it. Good portion considering how much your paying. The queso fresco on top is a nice touch. I tried the fish tacos and those were ok. The tortillas were of nice quality but the fish itself just needed some flavor, very bland. I would probably avoid this if your looking with a dish with good flavors. The service here was always on point. It can get very busy here on the weekends so just a heads up on that as well. Till next time. read more

TLDR; Long waits, poor execution, billing mistakes, and a frustrating lack of accountability made this one of the worst dining experiences of our trip. Save yourself the headache and eat somewhere else. -- We were told our wait would be approximately 15 minutes. It ended up being closer to 30. Once seated, things got even worse. We sat for roughly 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging our table and had to flag down two separate employees before we were assigned a server. Despite arriving over an hour before I needed to leave for a scheduled appointment, our food didn't arrive until approximately 11:35 AM. Spending over an hour at breakfast for a simple meal is unreasonable, especially at a resort restaurant where guests often have reservations and activities planned. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the wait. The chicken sausage arrived room temperature, and my pancakes were raw in the middle. Not undercooked--raw. After waiting over an hour for breakfast, receiving food that wasn't properly prepared was incredibly disappointing. As if that weren't enough, the restaurant somehow managed to charge our credit card twice while also posting the charge to our room. Resolving the error became an ordeal of phone calls, receipt photos, waiting for managers, and multiple follow-ups. What should have been a simple correction ended up taking a significant amount of our vacation time. The most frustrating part wasn't even the mistakes themselves--it was the lack of urgency in fixing them. Nobody seemed particularly concerned that guests were waiting excessive amounts of time, receiving improperly prepared food, or dealing with billing errors. read more

Hubby not a fan of chile sauce, so Carson made sure he got some "buffalo". The ranch, to DIE for! I had the mussels....super tasty, but they do need more juice/sauce, ESPECIALLY to dip the toasted sourdough into! We had perfectly crisped fries to share....... Carson was AWESOME! And when I asked for recommendations, I was extremely impressed that she knew of my dietary restrictions from my OpenTable profile! (It's been a while since that happened.) Jess was attentive throughout, yet not intrusive. Since the daily special was an O&O Burger with a draft beer, my choice was made. It was at least 1/3 lb of beef and cooked to perfection. A fresh, lightly-toasted bun, slice of cheese, and a thick, ripe tomato slice finished it off. The Fried Strawberry Hand Pie is worth the visit all by itself! Hand made. Locally grown strawberries. As locals & business owners, we were excited to give this restaurant a try, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing before we even had a chance to order. We valet parked, walked in, and took a seat at an open table. After waiting about 10 minutes, a staff member finally approached us--not to welcome us, but to tell us we couldn't sit there and needed a reservation. What made the experience frustrating was that there were plenty of open tables throughout the restaurant, yet no effort was made to accommodate us or offer any alternative solution. We completely understand that restaurants have reservation policies, but hospitality matters. A simple greeting when we arrived, an explanation of the policy, or an attempt to help us find a way to dine there would have gone a long way. Instead, we felt unwelcome and dismissed. I highly recommended skipping this "restaurant." When you enter the front entrance, you either pay $7/hr for valet, or drive to the left, GP all the way down the ramp to the self park area and pay $5/hr. No validation. When you get to the restaurant, you come in and wait to get seated. They ask if you are a hotel guest, and even though I said no, they still ask for name and number in party, even though it does not matter, and they can clearly see the amount of people I walked in with. Anyway, we get seated, everything is fine so far. Then someone came and got our drink orders, so we then asked the person if there were any other menus and was told that we just missed the brunch menu and they had just switched over to lunch menu that was already on the table. We looked it over and were very disappointed and dissatisfied, but we figured since we already came, we would give it a try anyway. After waiting about 10 minutes, a guy came by and only helped the table next to us. With no one else coming around, we just got up and left. The place was nice and cozy. There was only one other party right next to us, and although they were actually being served, they seemed very displeased too, which hinted us that it's probably better to just leave. Anyway, I don't plan on coming back, and I recommend staying away for those readings as well. read more

Last time they served us cold French fries in a jar, we asked our server about getting hot ones and he was very gracious... brought another jar of fries out, but unfortunately the 2nd round was the same? Cold fries. We also had ordered a burger to split and they served it with no extra plate, we asked for one and then the guy never brought one? Just a little disappointing... This time the gal that served us totally forgot to bring us our drinks. My husband saw the bartender making his bloody Mary and it was just sitting there for probably about 10 minutes. When our server came out to ask us if we'd like to order anything else, we said we'd like our drinks. She brought our drinks out and my husband Bloody Mary was completely watered down from sitting. Now I have to say the bloody Mary was served in a small glass and they charged us $21 for this drink, definitely was not worth it - an absolute gouge on the price. Our server did not check on us at all until our food was completely gone. So with that said these last two times here were not as top-notch as previous visits. I feel like your servers could use a little more training. Their new maple brussels sprouts were amazing and the pork bau buns were tasty as well however, they were doused with a little bit too much sauce and lacked meat in fact, one of the three the little tacos was filled with a lot of meat and the other two barely any. read more

Blatant discrimination. I am not shocked by the behavior of the employee at this restaurant, but I am shocked that this happened in Oxnard. This place has been on my list for a while based on the photos of the food. I never read the reviews and should have, especially the bad ones that they did not pay for. We (4) came in for a late lunch and the hostess was ok, friendly enough but at no point did she mention that they switched over to a limited menu after 2pm - it was 2:10. We were seated at a round 4 top, directly next to the only other table there - a couple and their child. The hostess drops the little menu and proceeds to tell us that the server will help you. So we waited. A runner comes out to bring us water and we asked for their regular menu but she says this is the menu, no other menu for this time and walks away. We debated as it would have been nice to be notified of this limited menu by the hostess, but decided to stay and just make the best of it. So we waited and waited. A male server comes by, ignores us and walks past our table to get to the table next to us and is super chummy and friendly to them and says your lobster roll is on its way out. We were all looking at him because we kept waiting and no one came by and he walked the other way to avoid us. You can tell the lady at that table was wondering why he ignored us too. He knew there was no other party there, he knew we were there, he chose to ignore us, and purposely went the opposite way on the way back to avoid us. We waited a bit more and still no one came. At this point we called it a loss, they don't want to serve us. We drop $5 on the table for the tap water and on the way out that same male server was standing at the front and he was SO happy to see us leave. Exactly what he wanted. Mind you the restaurant was empty, NO one was coming in, he purposely walked the further way to avoid us, just to circle back to the hostess stand to do nothing. He made sure we knew that he didn't want anything to do with us and we were only visible to him when we were leaving. Paid for parking to have this experience. From the second we walked into ox and ocean, we were immediately impressed by the upscale coastal decor. Such a cute restaurant. We were greeted by Matthew with a smile and he is so kind, love him! We ordered the lemon pancakes and the veggie omelet which were both amazing. Love that the hot sauce comes in a cute little bottle. 10/10 on food for sure. Parking in the garage was free with validation. The menu has a mix of small and large plates that can be shared. My bf and I got the yellowtail aguachile ($21), short rib bao buns ($24), swordfish ($39), and lobster pappardelle ($48). I was pleasantly surprised with all the dishes, but I wish the dishes came out one at a time instead of all at the same time, because some of the dishes were cold/lukewarm. The yellowtail aguachile was fresh and tender. The short rib in the bao buns were quite tender, although could have been warmer temperature-wise. The swordfish shocked me because some pieces were super tender. Swordfish is usually dry to me, so I was impressed by the tender parts. The swordfish was cold when it came out, but the waiter was able to warm it up for me. The sauce was yummy and light, and I liked the turnip and eggplant. I was impressed by the large lobster pieces in the pappardelle. The lobster was pretty tender. The sauce for the pasta was not very strong. Overall, I would recommend all 4 dishes we got! OUTSTANDING steak!! I went to a Michelin-starred restaurant last week... and honestly, this place blew it away. The host, service, and kitchen absolutely crushed it from start to finish. We visited this restaurant on Father's Day because we were excited to celebrate at one of our favorite beaches. We've always enjoyed the hotel itself and were looking forward to what we thought would be a great meal, but unfortunately, it ended up being a very disappointing experience. Right after we were seated, our waitress told me she thought she may have made my coffee incorrectly. When I took a sip, it was unbelievably sweet. It honestly felt like my blood pressure shot up from the amount of sugar. If she already suspected it wasn't made correctly, I don't understand why she didn't just remake it before serving it. We were also dining with our baby, and despite it being obvious that we needed one, we were never offered a high chair. We had to ask three different employees before someone finally brought one over. The biggest issue was the wait for our food. We waited about an hour for fairly simple dishes. When my husband's steak finally arrived, it was extremely undercooked. It was so rare that blood was dripping onto the plate, making it impossible for him to enjoy his meal. Overall, it was such a letdown. We were genuinely excited to celebrate Father's Day at a place we love, but between the poor service, long wait, and disappointing food, the experience completely missed the mark. I stay here at the Zachari Dunes a lot for work and come eat at the Ox & Ocean pretty regularly. I usually have their avocado toast because it's been consistently amazing! Today I tried the pictured Chilaquiles. The best I've ever had anywhere! Huge portions; couldn't finish it. The guacamole I got with it is the same yummy stuff spread on top of their artisan bread if you get the avocado toast. I ate this dish two days in a row and will definitely order it again. So delicious! The ambiance is nice inside and out; especially since the renovation. I like sitting near the inside fire pit on colder days...! Selena and Lette are some of my favorite severs I've gotten to know over the years and it's always a warm welcome from them.
