He's very patient and attentive helping my dining experience be exactly to my liking. My dog was safely leashed near my table. Even Skipper got the attention he was hoping for. The Cafe offers complementary Doggy water bowls too. I think there is a Custom cooked Doggy meal section you can order off their menu. We came to Moofish Cafe for the dueling pianos and made our reservation five days in advance. The entertainment was fantastic--the piano players were talented, interactive, and made for a really fun night. The food we did receive was very good. The Brussels sprouts and shishito peppers came in a huge, shareable portion, and the carne asada nachos were delicious. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the evening. It took 1 hour and 25 minutes just to receive our appetizers. During that entire time, our waitress never took our dinner order, and our menus remained on the table the entire evening. After our initial drinks were delivered, no one came back to check on us or ask if we'd like another round, even though our table would have gladly ordered more drinks. We later noticed that gratuity had already been added to the bill. Whether or not that had anything to do with the service, the lack of attention was disappointing. I understand restaurants can get busy, especially on nights with live entertainment, and I'm usually very patient. But waiting over an hour for appetizers without ever having the opportunity to order dinner, combined with almost no follow-up from our server, isn't the level of service I expect when making a reservation in advance. We came just for the dueling pianos - it was a last minute decision so we came with full bellies. The music was great and they did a good job of taking suggestions from the audience. Our initial drink orders were taken promptly, but after that, the servers were scarce. Seems like that was an issue from the weekend before as well, so maybe an acute staffing issue (summers are hard!) We recently had a quick breakfast on the patio with an ocean view at the Moonfish Cafe, Ventura Beach. This was our third trip to the Ventura County Fair which we try to attend every year. Francisco seated us and was very pleasant and attentive to our requests. We are staying at the hotel and decided to try their restaurant for an early dinner. It felt like we had a private romantic restaurant to ourselves. The restaurant is very clean and has a wonderful menu selection. Jay was our server and he was helpful with just the right amount of attentiveness. We started with a heavenly strawberry, spinach salad, and a bowl of their clam chowder. My husband ordered the New York steak with mashed potatoes. It came with a lovely bourbon type sauce on the side, and the vegetables were a nice summer blend. I ordered the grilled prawns which was served with linguine and a grilled lemon and saffron sauce, SO Yummy! They use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Apparently, they have dueling pianos on Friday and Saturday nights. We will be sure to try that out soon. I try to be as generous as possible when writing reviews, but this is, without a doubt, the worst restaurant I have been to the entire time I have lived in Ventura. My wife and I decided to try this place, since they were having a dueling piano event (which are every Friday and Saturday night). We made a reservation and were seated right away in chairs. Things quickly went downhill, starting with us sitting around in chairs (that are hard as a rock) for 10 minutes or so for anyone to come to our table. We finally get to place our order, which included the Brussel spouts, fish and chips, and the Moofish burger. We were a little surprised when the Brussel sprouts came out on a plastic plate with little to no actual seasoning, but things got worse...much worse! The fish was the driest fish I have ever eaten, and the burger was lower quality than I got in my high school cafeteria. It seriously looked and tased like it had been a frozen patty (came out well-done when we ordered medium), and you could have replaced the bun with a sponge and I don't think anyone would have noticed. A few bites into our meals and I asked my wife if we should just call the meal a loss and go get in-n-out, but she was committed to hearing the pianists play the song we paid to hear (a point I return to below). Neither of us finished our meals. We also asked for water and ordered several drinks. We didn't receive water until about halfway through our meal, and one of the drinks they couldn't make because they didn't have the ingredients. The server was extremely kind and did her best to make a similar cocktail to the one my wife had wanted, but it is worth noting that there were only a handful of cocktails on the menu. Finally, the dueling pianos. They were entertaining and, per usual, were accepting requests you could submit with paper they handed out to all tables. I wanted to hear the Campfire Song from SpongeBob Squarepants, and we threw in a dollar tip to hear it. It wasn't much, but most people weren't giving anything. After our terrible meal we sat around waiting for the song and the pianists not only played the SpongeBob intro instead of the Campfire Song, he proceeded to say afterwards "I can't believe someone paid me a dollar to play that s#!t". So yeah, we won't be back, and I will be actively telling people to avoid this place. In short, we spent around $120 on terrible food and were indirectly insulted by the pianist. At the very least, the experience was so terrible that my wife and I now have something to look back on with laughs. read more

A Fantastic Breakfast with Even Better Service My husband and I stopped in for breakfast during our stay and couldn't have been happier with our experience. We enjoyed our meal out on the patio, which was bright, comfortable, and perfect for a relaxing morning. I ordered the country fried steak, and it was easily one of the best I've ever had - perfectly cooked, generously portioned, and topped with delicious gravy. The biscuit it was served on was by far the best I've had in California! I'm from the 'South' and I know biscuits! The breakfast potatoes were crispy and flavorful. My husband went with the breakfast burrito, which came with chips and salsa and was packed with hearty ingredients. We both cleaned our plates! The service was absolutely wonderful. Great little place by the beach! Went at 8pm whe piano time started. Go for Dueling Pianos if you can! Good service, fun atmosphere, good fries and drinks. The manager lady (I think) was very sweet to my foster dog on patio and the server blonde lady was very good at her job and a good listener. this is so frustrating. trying to order room service for a special occasion and there is no direct number to moofish. the number listed here directs you to some extension and you have to call the front desk of crowne plaza to get a hold of the restaurant. of course the front desk is soooo busy. maybe understaffed. i called and was placed on 10min hold. i called again 30mins later only to be told they are busy and i should call back again. what does it take to get a room service? and this is hotel is not cheap.... i had better service from the marriott. read more

While the pianists are very talented, one of them openly (wearing a black shirt) complained over the microphone about Pink Pony Club being embarrassing and emasculating. It's a very popular song that I've heard sung by many MEN in different piano bars without complaints. It was also the biggest applause and reaction I had heard to the song while being there. However, I was disappointed to realize afterward that we were charged adult pricing instead of senior pricing. My son-in-law paid the bill, so I didn't notice the mistake until later. 9/28 I'm visiting Ventura on an annual girls trip with a friend. We're staying at the Crown Plaza. We opted for the room rate that includes breakfast. First off, let me say that the room rate that includes breakfast is a fantastic deal. I think it was $25 more per night and you're allowed to pick any entree on their breakfast menu, the most expensive of which is $25. There are two of us so it's basically like getting one breakfast for free. This morning I had the eggs benedict. I like my hollandaise super lemony so this wasn't the best as far as I'm concerned, but it wasn't bad. Service was super fast too. Our breakfast was served to us within about 5 minutes of ordering. Tomorrow I'll try something else and will update the review with that information. 9/29 This morning I had the salmon toast for breakfast. It was delicious but if I was paying for it I would think it was overpriced at $20. It was included in our room rate though so for that price it was great. Service was also great this morning. Unfortunately last night it was awful. They brought us all the wrong food, which we didn't bother to correct it since it took forever to get. It was conveniently located though and we enjoyed the jazz band that was playing. 9/30 This morning I had the chorizo chiliquilles for breakfast and they were amazing. Lick the bowl amazing. I came by myself about half an hour before closing but (I don't know if I caught her name right from her name tag) Shelley was enthusiastic, warm and welcoming. She let me sit anywhere and let me know the special and recommended the Moofish Burger which I went ahead to order. She told me the name refers to surf n' turf. How cute! I asked for a medium well patty and it actually came out medium well. It was nicely displayed, vegetables were fresh, sauces were generous but not overwhelming. And the coconut shrimp was quite coconuty in flavor. The side of waffle cut fries were lightly Cajun seasoned, crisp on the outside, and startchy on the inside.
