While on my way to pick up dinner, I spotted the word "Bakery" out of the corner of my eye connected to El Cielo, and my brain immediately went: "Well... dessert has entered the chat." Naturally, I made an unscheduled detour. Inside was a dangerous number of delicious-looking sweets staring back at me with absolutely no regard for my self-control. After a long moment of serious dessert contemplation, I landed on the bread pudding. The staff member taking my order wasn't especially warm or friendly, but honestly, the bread pudding and I were already emotionally committed to each other, so I carried on. Back at the hotel, after absolutely demolishing our Greek feast, we discovered we had no remaining space for dessert. Not even a ceremonial bite. Tragic. But fate intervened in the form of portion size. That bread pudding was enormous. What began as "dessert for tonight" became breakfast for the next couple of mornings, and frankly, waking up to leftover bread pudding by the harbor felt like excellent life planning on my part. We discovered this place a few years back when we visited Ventura Harbor. Back then it was for breakfast, and the place was very busy, but I remember we enjoyed the food. Today we were just passing through the area on the 101 and remembered Le Petit. So we took the short detour to the harbor. Today it was in the mid afternoon, and they weren't busy so we were seated outside with a view of the harbor. My husband had the seafood crepes and I had the quiche of the day. We went here for the first time on Sunday for Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas. We sat on the outside patio. Parking was easy and close to the restaurant. It's small but cute with a spacious outdoor patio and indoor seating as well. They have a nice variety of selections on the menu to choose from. Croque monsieur. Nicely cut thick ham. Good light Béchamel sauce. Lots of melted cheese. Tastes absolutely fantastic. The potatoes it came with were heavy. I should have got a salad instead. But that doesn't mean the potatoes weren't good. They were excellent! Seafood crepe. Smothered in cheese, sauce and herbs. Seafood tastes fresh, crepe was made correctly. Seasoning was on point. Staff was extremely attentive and took care of us very well. So would I recommend this place? Most definitely. Glad I found it. Manny was a great server! He explained the different coffee offerings and checked on us frequently. He even was able to divide our checks at the end. The food is authentic French food! The Benedicts have authentic french bread instead of a mushy muffin like most places. The flavors were delicious. My friend also loved her quiche. The homemade salad dressing was also a nice touch. My favorite kind of experience--finding a "hidden gem." We decided to explore an area of Ventura we had not yet visited--Ventura Harbor. Our goal was to have lunch (mid-week, hopefully quiet?) at the Harbor Cove Cafe there. Pulled into the parking lot and saw that the entrance was overflowing with folks waiting; nope; bye-bye. So we wound up at the nearby Le Petit Cafe and Bakery. It was thoroughly delightful. No crowd, great outdoor seating, friendly and helpful staff, and terrific food. We enjoyed one of the large salads and the quiche Lorraine, served with a great side salad. Delicious. Bonuses: (1) served with fabulous croissants (the really good kind, where your fingers have butter on them after handling); (2) Enough salads left to take home and create another meal out of them. Excellent food. I had the steak salad and not only was the serving ample but it was unique and delicious. So much better than a bunch of iceberg lettuce piled on a plate with chunks of steal. The Romain was grilled, which I had never had, and it was delicious. My husband had the shrimp quesadilla and liked it so much he ordered two! The room is spectacular. Right on the way. Beautiful. Well, it's a beautiful little restaurant and the food was good but not great. My omelet was over done and chewy. I hosted a lunch for friends and I got eye contact with the waiter and asked him specifically to make sure that I got the check after the meal. He assured me he would give it to me. After taking our orders, our food was delivered by someone else. The waiter never returned to ask about our satisfaction. One of our guests had to flag down someone who happened to be the chef to ask for a missing order of fruit. We were not offered coffee or drink refills and had to request them. And to top it all off the waiter brought the check to the opposite end of the table and laid it down in front of two of my guests who took it upon themselves to split the bill. Originally, I ordered the French crepe, but they mistaken my order with a French toast, which I was fine with. A casual little cafe with delicious offerings. Indoors it's hard wood floors and scattered little wood tables with French doors that open out into the patio with harbor views. Indoors it's a bit warm, and will have flies due to the doors being open but this cannot be helped. The flies are surely practicing French as they fly in circles saying "Bonjour" to each other. Outdoors there's a large patio with a water fountain and glorious ocean breezes. I prefer to sit outdoors, just because the weather here is so glorious most of the time.
