Service here is always friendly and attentive. The beet salad is excellent, in my opinion, with just the right amount of dressing and a great starter. We like the stuffed potatoes and the chicken. I will really miss this restaurant when they close on May 30, 2026 read more

Met some friends for drinks and entertainment last night. The service was great they eat checking on us making sure our party was good and if we needed anything. We didn't feel overlooked or ignored. The ambiance was minimal but fancy the artwork on the walls were so pretty, each time I looked over I imagined myself at the waterfall in the painting on the walls. My experience at onyx was very inviting and loved the live music. The singer has a great voice. I will be returning again. Thank you for a wonderful experience at your establishment. read more

It's all tasty. The appetizers, the main dishes, and the desserts. I don't partake in wine, so I can't comment on that. But, there are a lot of options. The chef combines excellent flavors and uses super interesting ingredients. The wait staff is repetitively kind, thorough, and very pleasant. The restaurant has a nice ambiance. Glass and wood. Art on the walls that changes a bit. Clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this spot. You'll appreciate it. read more

We went there last night. Food was great per usual. Had goat cheese stuffed dates which were incredible. Then I had a mushroom bucatini that was vegan and beyond delicious. We learned that the chef has similar dietary restrictions as me so that was incredible. And finally, even though I was stuffed we had a the apple crumble with coconut ice cream. Oh my! We went to dinner on Saturday evening with some friends and we had a great time. The place is so inviting and the people working there are amazing. I ordered the baked Brie and it was delicious (I did share). I was told the potato skins were delicious as well. My husband ordered a hamburger that he demolished. My friends ordered a Beet Salad which she loved. Her husband ordered a flatbread pizza called something like a pig pizza which he enjoyed. I also ordered a flatbread pizza, the G.O.A.T without the goat cheese. Absolutely the bomb! The entertainment was fun and all of us in the restaurant were singing along. Just a wonderful evening with good friends, food, conversation and laughter. We will definitely go back very soon. Sincerely, Terry S. read more

Had a lovely evening at Onyx Bistro and am glad Camarillo has this cute wine and tapas bar. The vibes are cool, good service, and a great wine and food menu. I love that despite this location being in a busier shopping center they've done a pretty good job of making it intimate and cozy on the patio. You really wouldn't realize you're in a busier shopping center with the patio being off to the side and a cute little fire pit and tables. The inside is a lot of high top tables and they had live music on a Sunday evening. Definitely comfortable vibes. Been here a few times and the crowd seems to be a little on the older side so hoping my review will help broaden the audience. The menu is pretty extensive with beers and wine. No real cocktails but it's a wine bar so definitely get the wine. The food menu is really great too! Lots of tapas and shared bites to pick from. As far as main dishes go they have some nice fancy options like risotto and different seafood options. Pretty good variety if you ask me. It's usually rare for a wine bar to have food, let alone an entire stellar menu. I've met the owner and she is super nice and personable. Honestly the staff are all very nice and welcoming. Good service overall and people who seem passionate about this business. A staff that stood out to me was Sophie, she gave great recommendations on her favorite foods here and was very knowledgeable about the menu. She made us want to come back for a proper dinner. For wine my friends and I appreciate the variety. I'm not a big wine drinker so I usually go with their moscato because I like something sweet. Here it's perfect. My friend got a chilled white wine that she was also very happy with. Every food bite I've had here has been super tasty. My favorite is definitely their hummus plate. Great flavored hummus and the veggies and charred pita bread bites are perfect for dipping. We tried the fig jam and bacon pizza with arugula which was also tasty and filling. Good potato skins and salads. Happy hour is pretty good too! I like that the hours are extended and don't end at 4/5pm like most places. They had dollar off beers and some $10 wine glasses. If you are in Camarillo or just generally looking for a really solid wine bar with food in the 805 then this spot is surely for you. Passionate owner and nice staff, it's easy to want to keep giving them my business. read more

Been here twice. Once for a large party celebration and once for happy hour with a friend. I dig the vibes here. Especially on a nice day, sitting outside, with a refreshing rose in your glass. For food, the flatbread has been consistently good the both times I've tried time. However, the wild mushroom bucatini can be improved--I find it a bit too salty. My friend agreed as well. For dessert, the warm apple crisp is so good. It's something I would order again. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. Parking in the lot. Would come back again. read more

Fabulous dinner, service, and wine pairing! I enjoyed pistachio-crusted salmon cooked to perfection, served on a bed of saffron rice with tender asparagus and a light drizzle of honey mustard. Chef Daniela paired my salmon with a crisp white wine--offered at the happy hour price--which complemented the dish beautifully. The beet salad was just as delightful. I felt so comfortable dining here that I'd happily return on my own just to sample more dishes. I'm especially looking forward to trying the sea bass, which was on the menu last Friday but not tonight. A special thanks to my waiter, Zeke, and to Chef Daniela--wonderful job! What a hidden gem! Our friend kept recommending them to us, and we finally made it over. Such a great dining experience that we wish we had tried it sooner! Right off the bat, Onyx gave off an elegant but casual vibe - perfect for a night out with friends or a date night. We got to sit outside on the patio - perfect weather, great sunset, and a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and try some of their delicious foods. All of their food is delicious! The Flying Pig flatbread was my favorite - just the right cheese to meat ratio with that perfect crunch to the crust. While their Margherita pizza is also great, it couldn't even hold a candle to the Flying Pig. Love caprese in general, and these skewers were light and full of flavor. The brisket potato skins were also a big winner at our table. Also loved all their wine options. I love a good glass of sparkling wine, and they definitely have a great selection. Next time we return, we definitely want to come and try out their happy hour! Heard they also do live music on the weekends, so really want to check that out as well. Highly recommend you stop on by to enjoy all the wonderful food and ambiance they have to offer! read more

Small bites is my absolute favorite way to eat a meal and Onyx has an amazing assortment of delectable small bites that make for a fun happy hour experience. They have full size entrees too. But luckily everyone I was with agreed on the small bites to try many things strategy. Thinly sliced marinated ribeye wrapped asparagus with a Korean bbq sauce - fun playful textures, perfectly cooked steak wrapped around al dente asparagus. My mom literally used her fingers to mop up every last lick of sauce! It was pretty funny. Roasted cauliflower- simple yet elegantly seasoned and cooked to perfection. Brussels sprouts are my weakness and these did not disappoint. Organic Brussels sprouts topped with cashew cilantro lime sauce, cotija cheese, pumpkin seeds & smoked paprika-- mmm this was a party in my mouth. Heartbeet Salad - spring mix, red and gold beets, pomegranate seeds, toasted pinenuts, red onion & goat cheese with a sumac vinaigrette - the combination of goat cheese and sumac vinaigrette was fresh and perky. The different textures and savory/sweet flavors really worked well together. Flatbread - fig jam, mozzarella, bacon, topped with fresh arugula. As the name suggests- the sweet of the fig jam, partnered with the savory of the bacon with the creamy mozzarella made me enjoy this more than I thought I would. The peppery tang of fresh arugula was a welcome foil to the chewy pizza crust- not quite flatbread- more a regular crust pizza - but hey, no complaints at all. For dessert - we tried the maple honey crème brûlée, the sugar was a touch burned but not unpalatable and the custard was spot on. I'm truly excited to have found this place. It's a welcome addition to the Camarillo food scene. read more

We headed over here based on the good reviews. The menu looked exciting. An important thing that matters to me at restaurants, besides the food, is the ambience. The decor was but something I would gently recommend is to put up plants or some sort of room divider wall at the entrance. When you walk in, you're basically walking right in the dining room. There is no entryway, so as a guest dining, you feel like you're in a fish bowl from all the people waiting looking around watching you eat. It's just something that I appreciate about other restaurants that have a little nice privacy entryway. We opted for the olive and nut appetizer. The nuts were sweet Which didn't really pair with the olives in my opinion. They should've been more savory or a mix of savory and sweet. We also got the pistachio salmon with the honey dijon sauce and rice. I did feel that the Dijon sauce was way too sweet for the dish. Also, something that I felt should've been a little bit more savory. It's nice enough, but there were a few things that I would definitely change. read more

Great place to stop in and have a glass of wine or a tasty local beer along with a meal. There is a beautiful outdoor patio with heaters and fire tables. The wine selection is varied without being excessive. It's a well needed step up from Relm that used to be in the space. The food is sumptuous. The desserts are made in house. Everything is fresh and well plated. The staff are friendly and attentive. The owner is lovely too. See website for more information. read more

As a regular customer who has emphatically eaten 50+ meals at Onyx, in addition to the glowing feedback of dozens of friends and family that I've sent in over the years, I can tell you exactly how delicious this place is. The flavor the chefs bring into each dish is phenomenal, the food quality is that of fine dining, and the passion that gets poured into this restaurant every day is incredible. Chef Danielle and the team at Onyx Bistro does everything possible to make each customers' experience the best. Coming from someone that has worked in many restaurants over the last 10 years, I can guarantee you that any negative review on here stems from that person projecting their lack of restaurant knowledge, their disregard of the staff's advice, and from having a general lack of taste. I urge you to ignore the negative reviews because this restaurant has always been fantastic to me and my community. Be kind to people in hospitality, or get a job in it to experience first-hand how rudely people treat their servers and hospitality workers. And if you think a burger is too rare here, then go eat at McDonalds! read more

Went to Mother's Day brunch at Onyx today. So disappointed. Only one server available. Food was set up for serving yourself. I don't like leaving reviews, especially for small business as I am aware the economy is brutal right now, and I don't want to hurt anyone's income but I am upset with my visit at onyx bistro. The service is dire, and I feel like even then it's putting it lightly. I was there for 2 and a half hours tonight and felt like I was there for 6 years. Having to wait over 20 minutes for a birthday ice cream (vanilla ice cream with whip cream) is absurd. Having to track down waitstaff just to get a check is insane. Being offered no refills is insane. I ordered a bistro burger tonight, and it came out to what I would consider raw. I was surprised it was not cold when I touched it. Being told, "sorry we had to keep it on the grill longer because we weren't sure if it was raw or not" is not a super inspiring thing to hear when eating meat. I contemplated sending it back, but weighed it out in my head and thought that the 45 minutes needed to cook a single hamburger would leave me more frustrated, and I just said screw it. I left it untouched until, It eventually was taken back, despite me saying it was fine, and it came back, very undercooked again. Being told, "next time speak up we can fix it" is insane. You're not around at all, and after almost 2 hours I have zero desire to track you down to fix my food knowing after the last 2 hours I could be there for another 45 minutes. Maybe this was an off night, and I hope it gets better but I genuinely cannot think of a worse first experience somewhere. I hope they figure it out because the atmosphere and setting is solid. read more

This is my third time eating here. Had dinner on Saturday, it wasn't busy for 7:30, they seem to be more busy for happy hour though. There was also live music this time which they didn't have the previous times I was here. Although enjoyable it was a bit loud that we had to raise our voices much higher to have a conversation. We each did a wine flight which I thought was a good deal to try different wines. We had the roasted cauliflower, the salmon and scallops, and the yuzu crème brûlée, this was the special dessert for that night. All the dishes were very good, but personally I really enjoyed the risotto in the scallops dish. It was especially delicious that I didn't want to stop you eating until it was all gone. Service was good and the food very tasty. Definitely worth trying. read more

Had a great time at Onyx last night. Not sure why I waited so long to try this place. The restaurant had a really nice aesthetic and felt very welcoming. I sat on the outside patio and the whole experience was relaxing. They have a pretty nice selection of beer and wine here, but of course the food was the star of the show. Some of the things that were sampled were the flying pig flatbread which had a really great salty and sweet flavor to it. The caprese flatbread which tasted great as well. I tried these caprese skewers that were very refreshing and you could tell the ingredients were really high quality. Hummus with pita was really fresh and had a great deep, hummus flavor. I saved the best for last... The brisket potato skins! I really couldn't get enough of these smokey, buttery treats. Service was excellent and friendly, can't wait to go back for more. read more

Anytime the owners of any establishment are involved in the kitchen or the cooking, you can always guarantee that the food is going to be top notch! Danielle and Will are geniuses at what they do. Especially when you catch them on their off days at a brewery brainstorming and plotting on more delicious wine selections to pair with their impeccable menu. Please, please, please go and visit this place they won't disappoint. The place has a very rustic ambience, from the ceiling wood frames, to how they have their have their wine displays at the bar. It has an outdoor elegant feel but indoor, if that makes sense. It's as if your friend invited you over to their indoor outdoor backyard and they're about to cook you some really really bomb food. My girl and I found this place about two years ago and we were hooked from the get go. It doesn't matter what you get, everything is bomb. We popped by on a Wednesday and had a bottle of wine for 20% off, a 6oz cheeseburger with avocado, and turkey meatballs with angel hair spaghetti!!!! Too fire!!! Plus the staff is superb.
