My husband and I saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try. The ambience was great and we went about an hour after it opened so it was quiet. The staff was nice and unfortunately that's where the good ends. My husband ordered the Kobe burger, medium rare and ended up with medium well. He said the burger tasted like a frozen patty. I ordered the turkey melt with no onions and it came with extra onions. The one good thing about my plate was the house pear salad. It was really tasty and the poached pears were delicious. The butter cake we had for dessert, came out so fast it was if all they had to do was get it from the freezer and heat it up. It was not good. Suffice to say we will not be going back and we were left wondering why there were so many good reviews. read more

You walk in and the ambiance is that of an old fine dining restaurant, a little dated but something you'd see in a 90's romance film. They have linen table cloths, silverware, glassware, linen napkins, and a nice wooden bar area. The service was very nice, but unfortunately that's where the positives end. Not that anything was bad, but nothing was that good either. I ordered a Kobe burger, medium rare with fries. What I got was a medium well to well in some parts burger, no cheese, and shoestring fries. The wife ordered a turkey melt no onions, and received a turkey melt with extra onions. So much so that after removing the onions, the entire sandwich still tasted like onions. The wife did like her house pear salad, I on the other hand was not a fan of anything. My water went empty a bite into my meal and remained empty until I had finished. The butter cake came out in a heartbeat, a microwaved mushy mess with an oddly flavored vanilla ice cream atop. The entire dessert tasted like a butterscotch candy. Having read the reviews, and my initial impression upon walking in, I wanted so bad to like this place. Simply amazing ! We had reservations for dinner at Sheila' Wine Bar this evening and were greeted by Pablo and his lovely wife Berta. What a beautiful couple who make the ambiance and environment feel like you are part of their family. A true blessing. Pete who is also family was our server and is always a pleasure and amazing server. We started with wine and Bruschetta and the choices were spectacular. The Rutherford Cab and the Rutherford Chardonnay were both excellent choices. The wine selection is stellar and provides something for everyone. The Bruschetta is the best of any we have had and the presentation is worthy of mention. For our entrees my wife had the Halibut special which was beautifully prepared and presented. The temperature and taste of both entrees were impeccable. I selected the filet mignon entree prepared medium rare and the dish was stellar and prepared perfectly and tasted that much better. I also had a second glass on the cab which was delicious. We also had an opportunity to visit with Andrew, their youngest son, who is definently a well rounded and career focused young man with a solid work ethic, fantastic social skills, confidence and a focal point on becoming a physician and I have no doubt this young man will go far. We spoke with Pablo and Berta who are always glowing with love and gratitude as the restaurant was packed, yes a full house and the family makes it a point to visit at each table and show love to the patrons who are all part of their family. Morty, the bartender, also checks in at the tables to see how everyone is doing and see how the wine and cocktails are tasting. This is a class act. Pablo and Berta have three sons, Andrew, Austin and Ivan and they are all such amazing men. The family brings a new experience to those seeking more than just a night out dining as they give their all and make you feel so welcomed and loved you don't want to leave. Wandered into Sheila's Place after wanting to try something 'new' in Camarillo. We were invited to seat anywhere and were attended to almost immediately with water. The server asked us if we wanted bread and then before we could answer because we took a moment -- he said- I think you do-- it's really good. And proceeded to go get us some hot bread and a delicious balsamic, olive oil, garlic and Parmesan dip that had been blended together...the bread was nothing special- but that dip certainly was. The bread was just a delivery system for a delectable flavor. Grilled Shrimp appetizer came with 4 perfectly cooked shrimp on a very elegantly arranged plate. The pork chop with capers served on polenta with two different sauces, including a chili oil was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked pork chop, which is highly appreciated-- with a delicious flavor-- the polenta was creamy deliciousness and a good foil for the pork. It was a Thursday evening and almost every table was filled. Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. read more

Truly enjoyed my evening here after having it bookmarked for a while! The staff was all kind and attentive, and it was a nice, calming mood for date night. Plus - the drinks and food were delish! Nice wine selection as well as cocktails to choose from. We got the wine and for a meal, both of us opted for the beef stroganoff. I feel like it's rare to find that on a menu, so we just had to go for it! The meat was so tender and flavorful, and the pasta tasted fresh. Delicious dish that's very rich. Prior to going here I checked out their website and the menu looked very appealing. The prices were not published and based on some of the previous reviews it indicated that the prices were on the higher end, but I didn't mind if it was worth it. So I went in with high expectations due to all the rave reviews. This exterior is unassuming but when you walk in it's as if you're transported to a different place. With the dim lighting and a view of the wall filled with wine bottles it's definitely a sight to take in. I read some reviews that they found it outdated but personally I loved the decor. Maybe I'm old fashioned but it gave me a feeling of what a high end restaurant should look like. We were greeted and seated shortly after walking in. For mid week they were actually quite busy with more than half of the tables occupied. Our server was informative on their ingredients as well as where they obtain their bread. We ordered several items to share. The Blue Claw Crab Cakes was good, you can taste the flavors of the crab and the roasted pepper aioli sauce complimented it nicely. The Fig & Prosciutto pizza was ok, the sweetness of the figs overpowered all the other ingredients' flavors that it felt like I was eating toast with jam most of the time. The Alaskan Halibut was slightly overcooked and mild in taste so the sauce was definitely needed to give it some flavor. Overall everything was ok but nothing really Wowed me, so for me the high price point didn't match the experience. read more

We went for the first time last night. It was incredible! The crab cakes were so yummy and not too large. The bread was warm and our server brought me olive oil and balsamic that they make in house. Had a drink here two weeks ago before having dinner at another restaurant close by. Saw the food coming out and almost cancelled our reservation to eat here, but I can't do that. So, we decided to make a date to come back for dinner - what a great decision!! Let me start with the owners: Pablo and Bertha. They were so welcoming and great conversationalists. Passionate about their business! Alright, the food, umm, oh yeah!! We had the duck breast and the garlic Caesar salad. Have not had duck like this since we were in Quebec City Canada - amazing. Tender, not too greasy, and very flavorful. The salad: nice crispy lettuce with crumbled croutons and a hint of bacon (can be so overpowering, so glad it was the right amount)! We will be regulars here as the menu selections are extensive (I'm not talking Cheesecake crazy!), the service is fantastic, and the wine selections (well, the place is a wine bar)! Drove up to the bland strip center and thought 'maybe no' But we were hungry and decided to take a look inside. Dark, 80's/90's decor but it was clean and we were greeted warmly. They weren't crowded on Saturday night at 6:45. After a day of wine tasting in Los Olivos I wanted something lighter & healthy-ish, opted for the House Pear Salad with chicken. Dressing had a lot of flavor, just enough blue cheese, the pears were a bit too sweet (but I ate them all anyway), chicken breast was moist. My BF had the Halibut, with artichoke, broccolini, capers, cherry tomatoes and a delicious mustard butter sauce. We both agreed it was very well executed and would go back if we were in the area. It was a Thursday night around 6:30 pm, and the place had only 2-3 tables filled. The atmosphere was romantic with soft lighting; however, if there was soft music, at the end of the night, it was quiet, awkward, and you knew your stay was over. You can hear the children at the other tables and adults conversing over wine. I was really excited about the food, but it didn't leave me with a memorable meal. Although the flavors were decent, the fish was a bit overcooked, coconut sauce was watery, and duck was on a bed of flavorless mush. Revisited Sheila's Place and I'm disappointed that it's been so long since we have been in. My husband is Celiac (gluten free) and dairy free. They took amazing care of him. The chef came out to discuss the menu and offered to modify anything to fit his needs. He ended up with an amazing salmon dish with a great Asian sauce. We split the shrimp appetizer (perfectly cooked) and Greek salad (fresh and lots of toppings). I opted for the duck breast, which was perfectly cooked. What a hidden Gem! I came here for lunch on Friday afternoon. I absolutely loved the decor. Really reminds me of a wine bar. I don't drink anymore but I know my wine very well and their wine list is amazing. They also have some great beers to choose from. Now I know I can take my boyfriend here. Service was above and beyond. I believe the owners were the ones taking care of us. (Very friendly couple!) We wanted to split the Italian sub and peach salad. Our favorite restaurant in town! We love Sheila's and it's our go-to spot for a date night. It's wonderful to get a great dinner in an atmosphere where you can actually hear eachother talk! The service is great and everyone is kind and welcoming. What really makes this place shine is their insanely delicious daily specials. It's obvious how much love and care goes into every meal on the specials menu, I try to order at least one special item every time we go. The regular menu is delicious too. Just had dinner here! What a hidden gem! You really should go, if you haven't already. It's a truly fantastic place! The ambience is perfect! The food is beyond delicious and the service is so friendly and attentive! We chatted with the owner, Pablo and his wife, Bertha about wine and food. Pablo gave us tasters of several wines he had. We had a bottle of Duckhorn Merlot and it was amazing! We shared a bowl of the Asparagus and Fallow Grains soup. OMG! Their soups are to die for! Last time I was here, I had the mushroom bisque. Truly delicious. Tonight I had the Chicken Toscana with bow tie pasta. It was so good. So much flavor and huge portions! I've got lunch for tomorrow! My husband had the Fig & Prosciutto Pizza. The combination of sweet and salty was incredible! I sound like I'm gushing too much but it really is that good! After dinner, Pablo gave a couple more tasters of wine he thought we'd enjoy. I recently took my wife, for her Birthday day dinner, to Sheila's place/wine bar. We couldn't have gone to a better restaurant for such an event. As longtime residents of the area, we know (seemingly all) and frequent what we call "special occasion " restaurants and was prepared to return to one we know until my wife discovered Sheila's. She found them and after perusing the menu, persuaded me that this is where she wanted to go for her BDAY. Like all celebration restaurants, at least as we define them, Shiela's has a limited menu, with all the standard proteins, everything is a la crate; starter, salad, main, dessert. What sets Sheila's apart from others restaurants is their commitment to wine; having a selection bigger than average, offering bottles from wineries that are not typical found at other restaurants in the area or available at Bevo(LOL). So if you're looking for a place that has an interesting wine menu and you want it with Duck or Filet, you love this place as much as we did. If I have a gripe, I'd say their desert menu was fairly standard. We had cake ready to go at home, so on this day, it was no big deal. I'm a big dessert person and it's not unusual for me to go to a restaurant (or not go) because of what they offer dessert wise. That said, the ambience is very nice, they have a heated but limited outdoor seating area and the service was good. Mostly importantly every bite of our respective meals was delicious! We'll be back and happy to add Sheila's place/wine bar to our rotation of special occasion restaurants. read more
