    Espresso martinis

This was a fun little speak easy, pretty small inside but that is to be expected in Camarillo. We had the password to get in and receive the discounted drink special. We had to clarify that again at the end once we got our bill but it wasnt a problem to have it fixed. Not sure how you regularly get the password though. Signature drinks were espresso martinis and they were good. We ordered 3 drinks off the menu and they were so so and a little pricey.

I've been here 3 times and every time I've been here I've met other incredible people (including the owner) From the food next door to the ambiance I didn't want to leave

Nice cozy speakeasy close by home. Nice environment. Friendly staff. Offer drink recommendations based on what spirits you like. Will definitely come back some time soon. There's an entrance thru basil n mint or there is also an exterior entrance where you bypass going thru the restaurant.

What a (quite literally) hidden gem smack dab in the middle of Camarillo! This little bar brings all the fun of a speakeasy while still bringing great drinks to the table. As described, retro-themed bar with prohibition-area decor. Great selection of drinks and liquor. Definitely a smaller location with limited seating. Not sure if they stop letting people in when it gets busier or not. Overall, such a great place to grab a drink - whether alone, on a date, or with friends. Hands down recommend.

In reading reviews on Yelp, I thought it best to go prior to my appointed day to check this place out. For those who may be concerned about where the entrance is, I have uploaded a picture of their front door, which is around the side of the Basil and Mint restaurant. Inside was cute and cool. It is small, as others have said, but we got there at 6:00 on a Wednesday it was empty. The waiter was informative and friendly offering us options on their drinks. Super high quality drinks as quoted by my friend who had himself a Manhattan! We'll definitely be going there again because of how cute the place is; oh, and prices were reasonable. I would describe it as being the epitome of a "speakeasy".

Shhhh, don't tell anybody about this well kept secret. I originally thought this place was inside Basil and Mint restaurant and apparently so do many others. This place is actually located around the corner through a door with no signs posted. Stepping through the door you are transferred back into time to the classic speakeasy days. The menu consists of nine pages of elegant drinks that will tickle your taste buds. They have everything imaginable as far as alcohol is concerned. Bartenders were experts at their craft and made some really delicious drinks. You can tell by watching them that they really take it seriously and put some really good thought in preparing your drink. They do change up the menu once in a while apparently so there will always be different options to try. This is the go to spot in Camarillo for the best cocktails money can buy.

Whiskey Sour and Gin Martini, delicioso.

Bottom line is, amazing drinks. High quality cocktails. Even better on the nights they got chill live music.

OPEN ON WEDNESDAYS AND SUNDAYS! DONT let the mistaken hours of operation online fool you! This place is best known for their craft cocktails and loved for their staff and service. Whether you're a local, traveling, or live a few cities away, it's a top tier craft cocktail bar you don't wannnna sleep on.

If you're going to hang your hat on the speakeasy aesthetic--dim lights, hushed tones, whispers of…read moreexclusivity--then understand this: you're entering into an unspoken pact with your patrons. We expect a certain standard, a level of care that borders on obsession. So when I catch Evan Williams--respectable, questionable, but barely twelve bucks a bottle--making an appearance behind the bar, it feels like a breach of trust. A quiet betrayal under low lighting. The illusion only works if the details hold up under scrutiny... and that pour? It broke the spell. And then comes the real offense: discovering that your Old Fashioned--the crown jewel of any respectable cocktail program--are built on bottom-shelf, dust-collecting bourbon. That's not just a letdown, it's a slap in the face. A cocktail like that deserves reverence, not shortcuts. And as if to twist the knife, there it was--a massive can of red maraschino cherries sitting shamelessly atop the bar, like some relic from a dive that's given up on finesse. It wasn't just a misstep. It was disrespect. In a place claiming the speakeasy mantle, details like these matter. They're the difference between theater and parody. The cocktails did not warrant the $15 price tag. Moreover, I would have paid more had I know the class of bourbon upfront. What ultimately redeems the space is its ambiance. The low flicker of the fireplace, the soft embrace of worn leather sofas, the curated hum of music floating just above conversation--it's seductive, even soulful. The room itself is small, intimate--the kind of place where you're bound to recognize a face, or at the very least, feel inclined to invite a stranger to share the sofa and maybe a story. And then there's the setting--tucked beneath a historic relic, a basement bar built into the bones of old Americana. The building dates back to the early 1900s, echoing with a past that deserves to be honored, not phoned in. That's exactly why I expected more from the cocktails. A place with this much atmosphere shouldn't fall flat when it comes to what's in the glass. It's a mismatch--a beautiful stage, but a script that doesn't quite rise to meet it.

The cocktails change so it's always fun to come back! I always try to be there when this section opens. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The décor is elegant, the dining room is inviting, and the table presentation creates the expectation of a high-end dining experience. Unfortunately, that is where the positives ended. Service throughout the evening was lacking. It appeared the restaurant was understaffed for the number of guests present. While the servers themselves were polite, the overall experience suffered because there simply were not enough staff members to adequately cover the dining room. Finished plates sat on our table long after we were done eating, and we eventually had to flag someone down to have them removed. My water glass was refilled only once during the entire meal, and after that I had to get my own water from the car. The food was even more disappointing. The lobster bisque was overwhelmingly salty and contained little, if any, noticeable lobster. The pasta was so heavily salted that it was difficult to eat. For dessert, the chocolate cake tasted like a standard store-bought cake rather than something that reflected the restaurant's pricing or presentation. The Manhattan has all the visual elements of an upscale dining experience, but the food and service fell far short of expectations. When a restaurant charges premium prices, guests should be able to expect attentive service and well-executed food. Unfortunately, neither was delivered during our visit.

Stopped by the Cave with the family after forced family photos. We recently purchased tickets to…read moretheir "Murder Mystery Dinner" so we wanted to check the place out. In Ventura's industrial area, the Cave is a nice, cozy restaurant that is hidden in the Ventura Wine Company shop. We were greeted by live music which made a lively atmosphere. They have the self vending wine machine with a decent variety of wines for all. I'm going to be honest - I did question the pour size. We ended up buying a bottle of wine at dinner instead and I'm pretty sure that was the economical choice plus it gave me peace of mind. I will say - the plating of the food is strange. Giant plates for small portions never really sits well with me. The kitchen's "thinly sliced" waygu steak was also off putting visually. The Jumbo Scallops w/Leek & Truffle Risotto ($46) is a must order. Scallops perfectly pan seared and that risotto I would eat by itself. The Lemon Chardonnay sauce was incredible. The Slow Braised Beef Short Ribs ($39) was okay. The meat fell apart as it should. The red wine sauce was okay but lacked depth. The creamy mashed potatoes were very good and seasoned perfectly. Wasn't mad that I tried it but would not order again. Wagyu Top Sirloin 12 oz. ($48) was very good despite the poor slicing. The creamy mushroom sauce was perfect to add some flavor but not overpower the protein. The Pepperoni Pizza ($18) was decent for my son. My daughter planned to order the Seafood Pasta until she saw all of her favorite things combined: Mac and cheese, bacon and pizza - the Mac and Cheese Pizza ($21) was honestly top notch. It wasn't overly heavy, the depth of flavor was great and it's extremely tasty. The spicy aioli was top notch. Overall, a good experience at the Cave. I recommend giving it a try.
