When it came to ambience, cozy, cute, tucked-away energy that made us feel like we had discovered a secret little gem. The decor and atmosphere gave "main character in a prohibition-era movie" in the best way. Unfortunately, the drinks didn't quite keep up with the setting. We wanted cocktails that would make us say "WOW, order another round," but instead we were left looking at each other like, "...that's it?" Not terrible, just missing that wow factor and creativity you hope for when you're paying speakeasy prices. This was a fun little speak easy, pretty small inside but that is to be expected in Camarillo. We had the password to get in and receive the discounted drink special. We had to clarify that again at the end once we got our bill but it wasnt a problem to have it fixed. Not sure how you regularly get the password though. Signature drinks were espresso martinis and they were good. We ordered 3 drinks off the menu and they were so so and a little pricey. read more

While there are many bars in Camarillo, The Amendment is a different libation hangout with a speakeasy-style cocktail bar theme. The interior decor has with dark wood and brick walls with even more wood tables & stools. About the size of a elementary classroom, the ambiance can be filled with the latest pop music or 90s hip-hop. While it's not a dance club, on certain nights having a conversation with anyone can be a bit difficult. The selection of whiskey, bourbon, scotch, vodka, and tequila is impressive. Equally impressive is the array of mixed drinks that are expertly made by the apron cladded bartenders. There is not a drink they make that is not done in a professional yet entertaining manner. The rotating craft beers on tap are always top notch and changing constantly. The Amendment is a different but pleasantly different cocktail experience. It is a mix of good ambiance, well made drinks, and great service in a small package. There aren't many places like this so enjoy and appreciate it. read more

What a (quite literally) hidden gem smack dab in the middle of Camarillo! This little bar brings all the fun of a speakeasy while still bringing great drinks to the table. As described, retro-themed bar with prohibition-area decor. Great selection of drinks and liquor. Definitely a smaller location with limited seating. In reading reviews on Yelp, I thought it best to go prior to my appointed day to check this place out. For those who may be concerned about where the entrance is, I have uploaded a picture of their front door, which is around the side of the Basil and Mint restaurant. Inside was cute and cool. It is small, as others have said, but we got there at 6:00 on a Wednesday it was empty. The waiter was informative and friendly offering us options on their drinks. Super high quality drinks as quoted by my friend who had himself a Manhattan! We'll definitely be going there again because of how cute the place is; oh, and prices were reasonable. Shhhh, don't tell anybody about this well kept secret. I originally thought this place was inside Basil and Mint restaurant and apparently so do many others. This place is actually located around the corner through a door with no signs posted. Stepping through the door you are transferred back into time to the classic speakeasy days. The menu consists of nine pages of elegant drinks that will tickle your taste buds. They have everything imaginable as far as alcohol is concerned. Bartenders were experts at their craft and made some really delicious drinks. You can tell by watching them that they really take it seriously and put some really good thought in preparing your drink. They do change up the menu once in a while apparently so there will always be different options to try. This is the go to spot in Camarillo for the best cocktails money can buy. read more

This place has a super cool, speak easy vibes! I love Basil and Mint so I thought I'd try their connecting bar. The drinks were strong and good! I went with a date on a Wednesday night and they had a DJ which made the small place really loud so it was hard to talk to each other across the table but it wasn't a deal breaker in terms of ambiance. It took a good 15 minutes to get our first drinks ordered while other tables around us were getting refills. The bartenders noticed this is time and did apologize and were very nice after that but it would have been nice to get initially quicker service especially since there were only about 4 small tables and a few people at the bar. I came in to this place since I was very excited that it was a speakeasy and once I walked in I had this foul oder I smelled at the place. It seemed as if either they cleaned the floors with a dirty bathroom mop. Because even the bathroom smelled the same as the bar. Don't get me wrong the drinks were amazing but unfortunately I was only able to have one since I couldn't breathe inside at the bar. That is the only reason I wouldn't give this 5 stars. Fantastic! Loved this hidden, hush hush cocktail bar in the heart of Camarillo. Located right next to Basil & Mint, it's hard to locate driving by as there is no signage on the outside. I did & recommend entering through Basil & Mint. Simply ask the waitress/host for The Amendment and they will walk you to the correct location, in a very cool, secretive manner. The drink menu was really appealing to me because many of the drinks reminded me of a recent trip to NOLA. (Sazerac, French 75 & my fav, the Ramos Gin Fizz) My boyfriend, who is familiar with prohibition era bartending, was very impressed by the entire menu. Service was also great as both bartenders were very attentive and extremely knowledgeable about all of the whiskeys and cocktails served. I ended up ordering the Ramos Gin Fizz (excellent) & he the Toki Ninja, made with Japanese whiskey. The place was pretty full on a Friday night with most of the seats taken.
