I was one of the initial members at Magavino when Rob and Barbara first opened up and I lived in Camarillo although cancelled after moving to Orange County. That was a mistake. Went to Magnavino Cellars at the recommendation of a friend to taste some local context wines from california sourced grapes. The day i was there, it was a beautiful day on the patio, with a two guys playing songs that i knew. It was a fun experience, and not over crowded. There were two tasting room staff (Leah and Sally) who made sure that every one was taken care of. i definitely recommend a visit, and if you live nearby, multiple visits for a pleasant relaxing day without the drive to the vineyard. read more

The place was empty and my greeting was a little awkward as they just stared at me until I pointed at the hall room and asked was this where Trivia was being held. They said yes & asked if I was with another party. I was not. The trivia night was hosted by Amanda Bonanza of King Trivia and there were 2 other plates (totaling 4). We ordered a bottle of wine and charcuterie board from the establishment and got to playing. Having played Trivia at another local spot, I've decided that either I'm not good at trivia or those questions were HARD lol Afterwards, I roamed a little and learned that this was their 3rd Trivia night hosting and the though the winery has been opened 15 years - the owners are new. When you first walk in, you feel like you're roaming through a labyrinth, hoping to finally reach your destination and drink some fine wine. You make a right, then, you see the bar filled with gracious staff, ready to pour some wine on a glass for you to enjoy. You are greeted by someone, who works there, and asks you what kind of wine you'll want. They have red, white, and sparkling wine. Leah is your charismatic wizard that can help pair a specific wine with the mood you're in. She did with me, at least. I felt anxious to know what the wines were like. I'm not a big wine drinker. You might ask, "Why are you at a wine cellar, then?" Well, the answer is my friends and the wonderful music they have during the weekends. They have bands playing there every weekend. From rock to country, from solo to a group of eight, you'll hear the rhythms of the glorious past being played in the amorous present we live in now. I recommend going to when Brandon Ragan is playing, as he draws a big crowd and will get you dancing on the smoothly-paved dance floor. The staff is wonderful and welcoming. I have never had any trouble, any of the six times I've been there. If you treat them with respect, you'll get the respect you want. It's not a one way street, where one party can be disrespectful and the other has to be respectful. The staff has been friendly with me, since the first time I arrived there with friends to listen to Midlife Crisis on a early Friday night. So, which wine is my favorite from there? My favorite one is a 2021 Butterfly Chardonnay which, to me, has a subtle, creamy taste. You grasp a semi-dry taste on your tongue, after taking the first sip of your Butterfly Chardonnay. I also like the bold, delicious Magnatude that leaves my body trembling with energy. Easy drinking wines and friendly, knowledgeable staff in a comfortable tasting room atmosphere and a spacious outside patio. $15/guest for a 5 pour flight tasting (waived with bottle purchase). Becky, Boo, and the rest of the staff were wonderful hostesses. Becky poured for us and even though she's only been there a month, she was so knowledgeable about all their wines, club member events, merchandise, etc. We had a wonderful time and left with five bottles of whites, reds, and dessert wines. Found the staff, at least on the last visit to be rather condescending in how they spoke to us and their general demeanor. Clearly they did not want us there. And as for the wines, I find their various reds to be decent, but the whites are weak, especially the Sauv Blanc. Nice enough tasting room. Owner (met her on another occasion) seemed pleasant enough. BUT, there are places nearby that I feel do a better job in terms of their wine selection and quality, their atmosphere and people (owners and staff) in regards to being truly friendly, welcoming, lively and fun, plus I like the variety of music and other activities they have far better than Magnavino. read more

I really enjoy this winery for so many reasons! I had never been before and went with some friends for the trivia experience on Thursday and wine. We were instantly greeted with a warm welcome by Kelly and Sally. They were very knowledgeable about all the different wines and we made our first choice of the Sauvignon Blanc, which is now my favorite. It's crisp and had a very nice finish. We ordered a charcuterie board and went to the trivia area where we met the lovely and wonderful Amanda Bonanza! She's zazzy, funny and just a wonderful person. She made sure we understood the rules and had a great time! We tried the Beautiful and Butterfly which are also whites and we're very pleased with both. The Butterfly is a more mild and mellow white while the Beautiful is an in between of the Sauv and Butterfly. We have been coming for trivia ever since and I have become a member, which shows you how much we really enjoyed ourselves. David and Leah are also wonderful people and they always have a smile and warm welcome. Please come and try this winery as they have a great variety of reds, whites and 2 bruts. I have tried mostly all of the wines. The Tempranillo and Barbera are wonderful reds I have tried and look forward to trying the rest. There are more food options available now and no matter who serves you, they are friendly and really know their wines. I had my 70th birthday party at Magnavino this last Saturday night. A Winemakers Dinner for 20 people. It was perfect. Leah our wine sommelier helped me plan the food and wine pairings and they were spot on. Leah is a delight, her attention to detail, service and wine knowledge were excellent. Seasons Catering did the 5 course dinner and it was superb. Magnavino Cellars wines are delicious and we had 7 of them . When we joined a few months ago it seemed like a good idea. It's my second time here. Nice music. Okay to good wine. We wanted to order a sandwich, but they ran out of bread. We didn't want a charcuterie board, so we asked if they had complementary crackers. We were given four crackers, quite possibly Keepler Club crackers, for the two of us. We enjoyed our 5 tastings for a total of 5 exact ounces. The music was nice, so we decided to order a bottle of wine on the red wine list. It turned out to be a sweet/port wine. We corked it and ordered a bottle of red. It was brought to us and we served it ourselves at our table. I then noticed "certain" customers were going up to the wine bar and returning with a substantial size serving. I asked them about it and they replied their servings were free because they were members. We are members too. It seemed unfair. One of the employees saw I was upset. She seemed genuinely concerned and sat with us. I didn't want to discuss my uncomfortable feelings but the gentleman who told us they were members encouraged me to speak up. I explained to the employee what I observed and how I felt. She said the couple received larger servings because they bought a case of wine last week and bottles every time they visit. That's why they deserved larger servings. I asked her in order to receive larger servings I need to spend more money? Her tone changed. She said, " No, their pours were from a bottle they purchased ." That confused me. Why were they going to the wine bar to get their purchased wine bottle servings? She then became quite irate. She walked away. Yelling. She talked about to other customers quite loudly so that we could hear her. It was unprofessional and made everything worse. The other employee was so kind and asked how she could help. At this point, I was in tears and said I preferred to just leave. I will respect my one year membership obligation I will also respect myself and will not be returning to Magnavino . We had a pleasant time during our first visit and perhaps it was just a bad day for them (her). I hope when my husband chooses to try again they will be a bit more respectful and fair. read more

Let me begin with Robert and Barbra. As there one once said "The dynamic duo" well...I have seemed to find them. No only are they amazing at hospitality but the go above and beyond to take care of their customers. Their business skills match their exceptional quality in wine. I fell in love with the 2016 Zinfandel which brought me running across the field once tasted to the VIP booth where I was immediately introduced to them. I must say that I'm a big Zinfandel fan but then I later discovered that they also have Syrah and petite Sirah another two of my favorites. Long story short. I need it product for a menu. And I sent them my menu. I am mediately paired their wines with each course. Seven to be exact. It was an issue with the delivery carrier and they made every effort to ensure delivery before my event. I understand what five stars is in review. And these five stars are well deserved. I highly recommend that if you were going to invest yourself into a winery. Truly get to know not only the wine but the team passionately prepares the wine. Remember. Wine tastes are obviously extremely subjective but the wines here just didn't do it for us at all. My wife and I are experienced wine drinkers and we've had all the varietals they offer countless times from many different wineries and there was nothing here that was worth re-tasting much less purchase. The inside of the facility was much nicer than you'd guess from looking at the exterior and the tasting room associate was very nice. The decor of the place will probably impress enough people to make them think that they are drinking some better than it really is. read more

We have friends that are wine members here. So before heading back to NorCal, they brought us here for a little taste. Not used to tasting rooms in an industrial area so was a bit skeptical. Once we walked in I was blown away...absolutely gorgeous inside. They created an cozy outdoor feel indoors!! The tables are quaint and the couch area inviting!! Thanks to an outstanding Living Social offer (www.livingsocial.com), a coworker, her husband, her sister, and I were able to try several wineries in the Ventura County area - among them, Magnavino Cellars. The Living Social deal was a voucher for a "One Harvest Wine Passport" offered by the Ventura County Wineries Association and valid at eight wineries ($80.00 value for $40.00). Magnavino Cellars was our fourth and last stop of the day (to be continued later) on our tasting tour, and I had to say they were the busiest and most popular (or maybe it was simply later in the day). I grabbed a bottle and ran! 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon: (ranked #5) Bold, I was sensitive to the hint of tobacco, and I felt the finished lingered a bit too long for my liking. 2010 Syrah: (ranked #4) Get me a lounge chair and the warm California weather and this was good to go! However, the spices tended to be a bit strong. 2010 Petite Syrah: (ranked #6) This one seemed very busy on my palate, and although I liked the chocolate taste the other dark fruits masked it. But as long as they produced a good product I guess it didn't matter, right? It's not like Ventura County lacks farmland, so I'm just saying.... I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total experience was around $80.00 based on 50%-off tasting of $10.00; no tip required). It is amazing that we have a tasting room as nice as this in Oxnard. We love good wine. The only thing better is good wines. Although I have my favorites, there is not a miss in the bunch. We joined as members the first time we tasted here and love it. Robert and Barbara are charming and hard working. In my opinion, this should be limited to those that actually have a heart and soul for wines, and then nurture their passion with training. And here in the heart of an industrial area of Oxnard you have just that with Robert Wagner taking his love of wine and making it available for others to sample! Yes, it is kind of 'Mom and Pop'. But historically, that's what has made our country stand apart. The wines that Robert makes truly will make Magnavino Cellars stand apart for years to come. His wife Barbara has such grace and a spirit of hospitality that all who come through those doors feel like family. And if I were going to be part of a wine family, this would be a great one to become part. There's always a table for their family and guests with filtered water, cheese, crackers, fruit. The Cellars have these great comfy leather couches and tables where you can enjoy sipping your wine and watch the wine making operations through the glass windows. We felt like Magnavino family after only an hour here! My girlfriends and I went up to the "Central Coast" (as I learned from the radio) for a 2-day getaway since my friend got a free hotel in Oxnard. And multiple times we were asked: "Why did you come to Oxnard??" The answer, to meet and see the amazing Magnavino Cellars. Not really, but I'm gonna go with it. We learned that we were only a 2-minute drive from the one winery still open in Oxnard. And after calling Magnavino twice and getting giggly Lori on the phone, we were convinced we had to go. 6-7 tastings, a photoshoot, and 3 bottles of wine purchased later, it was the best trip ever already. And we were one hour into the whole weekend. The wines were all unique, had incredible depth and flavor, and were all well priced. The place is so beautiful inside - outside it looks like you're in the wrong place. It's an industrial complex (as noted on the building next door, which has a sign like "Welcome to the Oxnard Industrial Complex" hahaha). But inside the owners have done an incredible job of making it feel intimate, classy and wine-y. They were also throwing a family dinner the night we came, so we got to meet the owner and her family from out of town. It was an incredible hour that I wish could have lasted the whole night. But don't worry later we got drunk with local Ventura pumas and cougars so it was a great night in the end. read more
