    Smash burger!
    Deena B.

Visited this beautiful winery on a Sunday afternoon for a delightful wine tasting experience under the guidance of wine steward Michael who was not only very knowledgeable about all the wines but also very warm and friendly. All of the wine was very good! Lovely ambiance here at Herzog, the staff is so hospitable from the moment you walk in the door. The smash burger and fries were also very tasty. Highly recommend you check out this wonderful winery. Ask for Michael! He's awesome!

Very authentic old-school restaurant I really enjoy the meat ribs . In the lasagna tasted delicious as well My favorite dessert was the pineapple Cigar. Reminded me of old old restaurant that I went to when I was younger

Lunch at Herzog. Truffle fries with a side of Wine. We had the Smash burger and the Fried Fish sandwich.

Herzog Wine Cellars is a venue that I'm proud to share with unfamiliar locals and visitors to the area. The service is stellar and the venue is charming. Wine tasting is $25 per person for a flight of 6 wines. I rather go home with a bottle of wine per person, so I never leave empty handed! As long as you buy a bottle of wine, then the wine tasting is waived. Portions are small but the quality of the food is notable. It's a perfect place to enjoy conversation with a friend, or group of friends. All while enjoying great service, good wine, and tasty tapas. Looking for a fine dining experience, make reservations for their restaurant, Tierra Sur. Or drop-in and see if their is open availability. Then start the night off with a tasting, while you wait for a table. Either way, you'll have a great time!

Automatic 22% tip added to a single glass of wine for 1 person.

I hate to say this, because I used to be a member of the wine club and have been a proponent of this establishment since day one. I'm just really disappointed that they thought it was necessary to charge a 22% tip on one glass of wine (photo) for one person. The food at the restaurant is good, but I will not rave about it since I was treated so poorly at the tasting bar. They did not make me feel welcome. I don't see a need to ever go back.

Exceptional service by Jake. The wine is amazingly delicious and the food l had while I tasted was so yummy. My only complaint is that I hadn't been here sooner...

I liked coming here for the first time for my birthday. I made a reservation online before and we showed up. We were seated immediately. It is pricer but they have great wine. There's not many fine dining places in the nearby area so this place offers more of that vibe/experience.

Friendly informative tasting service by all, especially Libby. No elevator to 2nd floor to view bottling line but still quite interesting self-guided walk around viewing gallery.

After living in Ventura County for over 20 years, I never knew a beautiful winery like this existed in Oxnard. As soon as you enter the building, it feels like you have entered a spa. The pace and vibe of this winery is so relaxing and the patrons are also all friendly. The staff is very well trained and attentive to everyone. I didn't have any food, but their menu looked very tempting to grab some lunch. I was here just to pick up a few bottles to buy as gifts. There is a large selection to choose from and you can sample it before purchasing. I will definitely return soon.

Happy Fat Tuesday! I think been to Herzog once before. Not sure why I haven't been back but I was missing out! My friend invited me to stop by as she is a member of their club. What a great place. So nice and not loud. My kind of spot! We had a few tastings with her membership. She can have up to 6 guests. So cool! I liked every wine I tasted and I'm not a wine person! We ordered fries and fish/chips. I really enjoyed the fries and fish but didn't care for the chips. Heather, our server, is the best! Such great customer service. Our glass was never empty and she kept refilling our water. Such great service. She also told us about the froRosé in the summer. Like whaaa... I'm there! Nowadays, I don't like loud places filled with tons of people. I like chill, relaxed more "mature" outings and this is it! Cannot wait to be back!!!!

We came back here on Christmas Day for a mid day tasting. This is a Jewish winery and we found that they are located in Oxnard (and not in Los Angeles) because of tax purposes. It's a huge winery with a equally huge restaurant and parking lot! Everything is delicious and wonderful and they have local wines as well as international wines. I need to give another shout out to Mike, who gave great descriptions of the wine we were about to try as well as poured the wine tasting immediately once we finished our previous tasting. He knew which wine we were on and was very adept at recognizing and pouring for all the people around us too. He was a fantastic conversationalist and also know how to fade in the background when my husband and I wanted to talk (aka argue) amongst ourselves. This place is closed on Friday and Saturday. It might sound frustrating due to your work schedule, but they are open till about 7 for tastings (check with the winery to be sure). I don't know many (read:any) places open that late for wine tasting, so go after having a horrible day at work...or a wonderful day. You get to taste 6, one ounce wines with 2 revisits. So plan your visit or Uber/Lyft/really good rideshare/friend share accordingly. And make sure to tip Mike or make sure Herzog keeps promoting him money wise. ;-) P.s. the word I was looking for is raise. Give him a raise. I couldn't think of the word before.

My friend and I opted to sit inside at their high top table which was a nice way to scope out the restaurant. I love that everything here is customizable! You can create your own custom charcuterie board with all your favorite pairings, then explore their impressive menu of fresh salads, melty paninis, and shareable appetizers made for lingering conversations. We shared the custom charcuterie board and avocado crostini's. Both were delicious and perfect for sharing. As for the drinks, whether you're a fan of sipping wine by the glass or sharing a bottle, they have an impressive list of local and foreign wines to pick from. Also, for those of you that aren't huge wine drinkers, I was also impressed to learn that they always have at least 10 beers rotating here. We started with Chardonnay and Moscato and ended with some Southern California beers, we agreed their selection was great. As for the staff, everyone was super welcoming and attentive! We came on a busy weekday night as they had a wine tasting event going on yet the staff still managed to get everyone served promptly and drinks were always refilled. Definitely a place where you initially come for the wine, but stay for the vibes. I'd say overall this spot truly is a 10/10 - 5 stars. The food was delicious, great menu, nice staff and a good selection of wines. I'd even come back for lunch just to grab a panini and to sit on their patio. If I had to give one critique, I would say that the spot is just a little pricey. So this wouldn't be a regular stop per se, but I loved it so much that I honestly will be back soon and keep it in mind for a special girls night, etc. Also in fairness there is a way to come here and have it be cheaper, maybe just one glass of wine and a sandwich or app but we all know I go big lol. Great spot, will be back.

If you're going to hang your hat on the speakeasy aesthetic--dim lights, hushed tones, whispers of…read moreexclusivity--then understand this: you're entering into an unspoken pact with your patrons. We expect a certain standard, a level of care that borders on obsession. So when I catch Evan Williams--respectable, questionable, but barely twelve bucks a bottle--making an appearance behind the bar, it feels like a breach of trust. A quiet betrayal under low lighting. The illusion only works if the details hold up under scrutiny... and that pour? It broke the spell. And then comes the real offense: discovering that your Old Fashioned--the crown jewel of any respectable cocktail program--are built on bottom-shelf, dust-collecting bourbon. That's not just a letdown, it's a slap in the face. A cocktail like that deserves reverence, not shortcuts. And as if to twist the knife, there it was--a massive can of red maraschino cherries sitting shamelessly atop the bar, like some relic from a dive that's given up on finesse. It wasn't just a misstep. It was disrespect. In a place claiming the speakeasy mantle, details like these matter. They're the difference between theater and parody. The cocktails did not warrant the $15 price tag. Moreover, I would have paid more had I know the class of bourbon upfront. What ultimately redeems the space is its ambiance. The low flicker of the fireplace, the soft embrace of worn leather sofas, the curated hum of music floating just above conversation--it's seductive, even soulful. The room itself is small, intimate--the kind of place where you're bound to recognize a face, or at the very least, feel inclined to invite a stranger to share the sofa and maybe a story. And then there's the setting--tucked beneath a historic relic, a basement bar built into the bones of old Americana. The building dates back to the early 1900s, echoing with a past that deserves to be honored, not phoned in. That's exactly why I expected more from the cocktails. A place with this much atmosphere shouldn't fall flat when it comes to what's in the glass. It's a mismatch--a beautiful stage, but a script that doesn't quite rise to meet it.

To our surprise, the weekday earlyish dinner experience here was even BETTER than our great first impression in Ventura. The reason? Our stellar server Dan! Dan is if the soothing vocal affect & detail orientedness of Kelsey Grammer's Frasier Crane, + the compassion of Dr. Phil, + the genuine caring of your bff who really gets you all got infused into the body of a tall, tanned, actor-handsome golfer. We joked that Dan could heal anyone's daddy issues bc he was SO perfectly attentive & thoughtful in his details. From helpfully comprehensive explanations of the best of that day's daily fish, to the bringing us CHILLED spoons to eat some of our to-go blueberry cobbler before the ice cream could melt on the drive home, to bringing us new glasses of club soda mid meal - level thoughtfulness. When they say it's the little things, it really means it's all the little things that add up to a big thing. Green flags like crazy. Yep, that's our Dan! Dan was a totally unexpected surprise, but the comfy booth seating, cool decor & awesome food was not. We have come to expect a level of consistent excellence at Lure. This visit further reinforced this impression. Wild Cod Fish & Chips - likely some of the best - lightest & crispiest - cod we have had - ever, & I'm talking in the world (When we told Dan we'd share that dish, he offered to bring it first, so we could share it as an appetizer. Another green flag!) Sally's Sand Dabs - my 2nd time ordering this bc it's so perfect - pineapple slaw is always great & the garlicky spinach was buttery textured, simple, & fantastic Blue Eyed Trevalla - true to Dan's recommendation, a spectacular fish & cooked perfectly House salad - worth a special mention bc it was surprisingly great w/crispy raw corn kernels & a yum balsamic dressing Blueberry Cobbler a la mode - big enough to enjoy w/the ice cream there & also the rest at home later. Chilled spoons should be served with dessert all the time. Add the super easy parking situation to this great experience, & this was as perfect a dinner experience as you could ever have!

We sat down at the oyster bar and noticed a guy working behind the counter who walked past us quite a few times without acknowledging us. My date eventually had to call him over just to ask for menus, water, and silverware, which a waiter finally brought over for us. Looking around, we noticed a lot of new faces, especially behind the grill, which might explain some of the hiccups. For our meal, we ordered the clam chowder and the crab cakes. The chowder was incredibly thick and the flavor was completely different than usual--it just wasn't enjoyable. My date wasn't happy with it either. To the restaurant's credit, our waiter was nice enough to take the chowder off our bill, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the crab cakes didn't fare much better. They tasted very fishy and the flavor was just completely off. This was the first bad experience we've ever had here, so it really stood out compared to what we are used to. We love this place, so we are hoping this was just a temporary setback with a new crew. We will likely try it again in the future and hope it regains its usual excellence!

The room we were in had about 25 foot ceilings, an open kitchen, and tables that were very nicely spaced (see the photos). Shortly after we were seated, Kristen, our server came by to answer questions about the menu. With a winning smile, she was very welcoming. My wife ordered the papparadelle with duck ragu. While the presentation of the dish was very nice, the dish itself was unseasoned, tasteless and bland. I ordered the seared duck breast ($75). The cold fruit and vegetable added nothing to the duck. And the duck breast itself was very chewy and bland. After the meal, Jonathan, the manager (?) came by to ask how we enjoyed the meal.
