Ojai Rotie slaps. As in this place is so stinking good. I've been here twice now and just the flavors they get on the skin of the chicken, or in their side dishes is insane. I especially loved their manoushe (pita-like bread) which was so tasty. The chicken is moist and flavorful (even the breast!) and I probably didn't need to get the 3 dips to share with my husband, but every single one was great. My favorite was the eggplant dip - that one I was eating by itself it was so chunky and delicious. My only gripe is that you have to be seated and then you leave to go order - I'm always worried that they're not going to remember that I'm sitting there and give my spot to someone else lol. And sometimes you have to wait to get in and be seated, and then you have to go stand in line to wait again to order. When it's not super busy, it's a dream spot to eat, but when it's busy, it can be a little bit of a pain. Still worth it in my opinion, though! read more

It's such a lovely setting. But so overpriced. 3 sides were $26. We came here for the sourdough. There was none. It was only around 5:45 pm. If you reopen at 4:30 for dinner and your sign out front advertised sourdough, why do you not have any? Or at least tell us before we get in and all get seated. The chicken wasn't very moist, the carrots are cold and not cooked, the cauliflower was cold and uncooked with just some spices thrown on it. My grandson begged to not go back here again. The menu here is nice and offers a variety of items. We decided to split a half a chicken plate and a side of Muhammara. Good positions of food here for the price. Everything was of great quality and had great flavors. The muhammara and pita were the stars of the night, just really phenomenal food. Overall, we really liked this place and will come back again. Ojai Rotie came highly recommended by a few friends, so my partner and I were excited to give it a try. We arrived around 8 PM on a Sunday evening and there were a few parties still eating. We decided to order a half chicken as that was recommended as a good amount for 2. Since it was nearly the end of the night they only had a few pieces of pita bread left, so they gave us some sourdough to supplement. The pita bread was definitely tastier and paired more seamlessly with the chicken than the sourdough. Taste-wise, I enjoyed the garlic dip that accompanied the chicken, however the flavor of the chicken itself wasn't anything out of this world for me. I normally love potatoes but I wasn't huge on the taste and texture of the ones here. I thought the orzo was ok, but would recommend trying out their other options for side dishes. I'm always a bit conscious when I go out to eat I will smaller towns but this place is actually delicious. I got the muhammara and the rotie chicken quarter plate and I was delighted. The quarter chicken plate is filling for one person, and you get to choose 2 picinic size sides to help compliment your dish, letting you tast more. For the sides, I chose the tater salad which is basically like potato salad and the pommes rotisserie which is roasted potatoes. Both were packed with flavor on first bite and absolutely hit the spot. Debating between the muhammara and the white bean hummus, I went with the muhammara. It was a slight hint of sweet and great dip which is absolutely great to share with the table. It tastes just as good as the one at Bavel in DTLA. We also ordered two of the quarter chicken plates that came with two sides each. My chicken was pretty dry and it took about 45 minutes to come out. I loved the potato salad. The orzo was very bland. The harissa carrots were nice and flavorful. The tabouli was refreshing. I think I would go back for the kebabs and maybe the potato salad. The baguette came out first which was delicious, but the butter itself tasted a little old? It had a cheese-y aftertaste which usually means it's been sitting on the fridge for a while. Hummus was next, which was delicious and whet our appetites for the main course. The highlight: the chicken. All of us agreed it was so JUICY...especially the CHICKEN BREAST ITSELF!!! We all wish that our normal chicken breast was that juicy. Loved the garlic dip that also accompanied the dish. The Our Slaw was also great and wasn't a traditional coleslaw but had more of a salad taste -- which I appreciated since I'm not a fan of coleslaw. Our other sides that we chose included in the picnic included Orzo Salta and the Caramelized Cauliflower which were also solid sides. Although the sides were all supposed to be large, I felt like the side we ordered on the side was actually larger than those included in the picnic combo. And the food itself is good: The one exceptionally tasty item we tried was the lamb Kafka. The 3 meatballs on sticks were so full of flavor! They are a must order for meat eaters here. The other exceptional item was the side of pommes frites - roasted herbaceous cubed potatoes drizzled with a creamy sauce. The other items we had were good and filling. Not exceptional. Avocado toast is huge with lots of avocado and other veggies. It's visually impressive. But not as flavorful as it looks. Roti chicken: the skin is very tasty. I ordered the quarter chicken and expected it to be leg and thigh. But it was wing and breast. To my surprise the breast was juicy! But if you prefer dark meat I guess you have to tell them that. With the chicken you can get 2 sides. Potatoes (mentioned above), and tabbouleh salad, which was my one slight disappointment. It was made fresh that day - which, I find, makes it less flavorful and harder to chew the parsley than when the salad is allowed to marinate in the dressing overnight. I asked the server, "Do you serve fattoush without dressing?" thinking maybe this Lebanese-French restaurant had a different style. He said, "Hmm, can I take your plate?" and took my plate. A couple of minutes later, he came back with the same plate and a small bowl of dressing. I added the dressing and started eating, but the lettuce was so chewy it felt like kale. I can't speak to the ambience or service because I had the good fortune to attend a small gathering where the hosts served a buffet of Rosti food. There was an abundance of different offerings from this restaurant. I tried the chicken, of course, and it's the best i've had in 45 years. Congratulations to the owner and staff for creating recipes and a menu that serves most palates. I don't usually eat couscous salad but i will definitely order it for myself next time. All the salads were delicious. I could make a meal of the salads and sides alone. And don't skip the bread if you can eat it because you will have missed a treat. The pickled radish were also the perfect palette cleanser. I got the orzo and cauliflower as sides. So fresh and succulent! My friend got the tuna switch, which she dubbed the best of her life.
