This is a great place in Ojai to sit down and enjoy breakfast with friends. It was very busy with long lines, but it was moving along. There was seating inside and outside the cafe, but there was some more seating in the back garden. Service was excellent. I got the Herby Scrambled Eggs and Homemade Vanilla Latte. The eggs were fine, but I wish it was made with a different type of cheese. I ate as much as I could. The salad was good. I enjoyed the Vanilla Latte. Overall, a nice place for breakfast. read more

The place was super cute. Amazing selection of books, seating inside and out. Menu had something for everyone. Staff was nice. I don't get the skateboard planks... are they for sale too or just display?? So why not 5-stars you ask? Well... I didn't think the food or coffee was that great honestly. The breakfast sandwich was so big, I don't know how anyone realistically eats it without getting egg all over their face or the whole thing sliding out from the bread and falling apart. It's pretty, but so sloppy once you dig in. The green pesto looked amazing but ultimately lacked flavor. The pickled shallots that came with it was so overpowering, (and mind you...I love shallots!) but I have to remove some. I ended up deconstructing the sandwich and eating it like a bagel with too much topping. Not so much a sandwich. The over easy egg was pretty, but didn't add any benefit. Maybe over hard would be a better option. Friend got avo toast. Once again super pretty, but she could tell the sliced eggs weren't as fresh and again the pesto was pretty flavorless. Lots of salt and pepper and hot sauce needed for both our dishes. Bread were over toasted, so cuts to the mouth roof top. Lattes were pretty, but tiny and coffee was meh. One bathroom, long wait. Order at counter and find a seat. Wait for them to call your name to drop off your food, but if you don't hear them or there are others with the same name... you get the picture. Come to think of it...My food did take took longer to come out and maybe it was because of those reasons! So skip the IG hype and go with Yelp reviews. read more

Saturday around 10:15am and there was a short line, a few open seats at communal tables inside & outside. All the reviews raved about the cast iron fried eggs (Weiser Farms fingerling potatoes, organic spinach, herbs, goat cheese, croutons $15.50, add prosciutto $2) so my BF & I both ordered it. I couldn't go without toast and ordered their house made sourdough. Is $5.50 a lot for 2 thick slices of toast, with butter & jam....yes (but it was fresh and satisfying although could have had more sour-dough pow). There were some lovely looking fresh cakes being brought out of the kitchen, blueberry scone and GF options too. Maybe next time. We both loved our eggs on a bed of super fresh, lightly sautéed spinach and herbs. Although the people near us had delicious looking breakfast sandwich (so I'm absolutely trying that next time... and there will be a next time). Since this is part book shop and part cafe, there is a full wall of both adult & kids books. My friends and I walked in and the line was literally out the door. I counted about six people working, including two in the kitchen, and they were moving with real efficiency. I worked in restaurants for five years, so I know how important urgency is and this team definitely had it. No standing around, no confusion, just smooth teamwork. That alone impressed me. The guy who took our order was amazing. He genuinely knew the menu, sold me on the matcha (which was great), and helped guide me toward what to eat. Customer service like that makes a difference. I ordered the 3 eggs with the salad. To be honest, the eggs themselves didn't have much flavor. However, the cheese mixed into them was really good and saved the dish. Overall, I'd rate the food a 2. The service my friends and I received was a solid 3 and that experience is why I'm giving 5 stars. Next time I would order the egg skillet. All three of my friends got it, and I tried a bite it was amazing and much more flavorful than my plate. They also sell books and coffee beans, which I thought was a nice touch. I didn't purchase any, but it adds to the vibe of the place. Seating inside is limited, but they have a large outdoor patio with plenty of space. You can sit inside as well, just know it fills up quickly. Drinks are called out by name by the food runner. I suggest staying inside while waiting for your drinks because they only call your name once or twice. If you're on the patio and miss it, your drink might sit there getting cold or the ice might melt. For food, they have a runner who walks around calling out names, which works well. Personally, I think they should consider giving out table numbers to place on tables so it's easier to match orders to guests --just a suggestion from someone who's worked in restaurants. I want to sincerely thank all the workers at this location. It was my first time visiting Ojai with my family, and the experience was wonderful. The coffee was excellent, and the pastries were just as good. What really stood out, though, was how kind and welcoming the staff were. They were more than happy to help me with recommendations on what to do in Ojai, and they were incredibly sweet, polite, and patient. The positive atmosphere they created honestly made a big impression on us. My husband and I drove by Three Birds when we were in Ojai, and it caught our eye as we passed it on the street. We dropped our car off at our hotel and immediately walked over for coffee. I'm not a regular coffee drinker, but I appreciate a nice coffee shop. Three Birds is remarkably charming, with both an inviting interior and a cheerful patio. The shop also sells a curated selection of books. I was happy to spot my friend Meg Howrey's wonderful novel, "They're Going to Love You." There was a local artist on site, too, signing an illustrated card deck about animal wisdom. I decided to join my husband and order an iced latte. Service was fast and friendly, and the latte was tasty, not that I know my coffee. There was a food menu too, and I'd be surprised if it weren't pretty solid. I just liked Three Birds--the coffee, the books, the vibe. I'd recommend it if you need a place to stop while hanging around downtown Ojai. read more

The decor and ambiance here is absolutely adorable: it's cozy, comforting and inviting. I love the plant friendly patio and kid friendly game bag. An inside wall is lined with books for purchase or to enjoy a read while you're at breakfast. There are adult books and children's books; something for everyone. I love the tile tables; they made for a loving family feel vibe. And early on the Sunday morning we went there were young families enjoying breakfast together, snuggled up and reading books while they waited for their food. It was especially charming that the workers knew just about everyone that walked in, and if they didn't know them they got to know them. It's a very personable local shop. They offer various milk alternatives for their coffee and teas and their whipped cream is made in house. The food took a little longer than the average restaurant to come out, especially when there is a light crowd early in the morning but it's no bother because it's so pleasant inside. The prices were high as things are now, and the portions are smaller (aka. Normal sized instead of American jumbo sized). All ingredients are very quality, but limited menu doesn't make this the right stop for everyone. The bottom of the cast iron eggs was burned unfortunately but the flavor was there minus all the cilantro on top. The breakfast plate little banana pancakes are small and flat but good. Not the meal portion my husband would prefer but was nice for a change to see him eat in good portion :) haha! I got the breakfast sandwich and was a big fan. I like how they cook their sunny side up eggs, and the homemade pesto with pickled onions was a great touch with the arugula and ham that was super favorable. Your dollar doesn't go far here but it buys quality and homey good feelings which goes a long way in the end. read more

Three birds didn't disappoint. They have a small menu, however the food was delicious. I came to three birds because they offered vegan options, my scrabbled skillet was the perfect morning breakfast. Gets very crowded with little seating indoors, but there's plenty spaces to sit in their outdoor patio. Located near the main stretch of shops and parking was easy to find. Staff were very friendly and attentive, and the large selections of books for sale were a nice touch. I am so happy I found this spot and look forward to returning when in Ojai. read more

This is a very small coffee shop and, arguably, a place for book readers, see my inside pics. While there isn't a great deal of inside seating, there is a fair amount of outdoor seating. We enjoyed our cup of coffee (which was fine) before we sauntered our way through downtown window shopping. After a visit to Ojai Olive Oil, we were looking for an afternoon coffee and tea. Leilani at the Caravan Outpost recommended this new little spot. So glad we found it. The staff were friendly and offered recommendations. They have a nice indoor spot with tables and several shelves filled with books. There is also a very nice patio outside. Mr. B had a nice latte and I wanted something cold and decaf. The young woman working the counter recommended their ice tea, it was a flavored tea and she said it is even better with lemonade. I had her toss it in too, and it was scrumptious. A great recommendation. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the sunshine with our drinks. Great new coffee shop in town! They use locally roasted (Bonita) coffee AND offer local Magic Hour teas. I don't go out too often for coffee, but I have been here a few times now since they have opened. My latte was delicious and they serve the tea in a cute single sized teapot. They have a few baked goods and we tried the chocolate tea cake, and while we couldn't quite figure out what the difference was between a tea cake and a poundcake. It was delicious! I haven't even mentioned it yet, but I love that they are also a book store-they are even having a bookclub which I would love to join, but the hours don't quite work out for me. They are also partnering with their neighbor (Pixies General Store) on what sounds like some great kids activities Check out this new coffee shop because it has great coffee, great tea, yummy treats, and books, BUT also check them out because they are a great neighbor, and a great addition to the community... This was a very lucky find! My Mom was visiting me and I brought her to Ojai to shop and do a little exploring. My Mom mentioned she was hungry and wanted pancakes and it was after lunch time so I wasn't sure we'd find a place to fit her craving. I'm trying to eat better (more organic, less gluten, sugar, etc) for my auto-immune, so I did a Yelp search. We found this cute little house off on a side street, sound parking and then went in to check out the menu. I wish I had spent a little time looking at the books, but the seating was full inside, so after we ordered we went outside. We shared, (now I wish we had each had our own!) :) the pancake, egg, bacon plate. My Mom got a hot cocoa and I got the Golden Milk. Everything was DELICIOUS! Absolutely delicious spot which sits off the beaten track. I am not sure I would go anywhere else in Ojai for brunch now! This cafe serves a range of brunch options and it also sells books! That is always a green flag to me. The brunch options are small but delicious, with every care taken to make them flavourful. I had a special (asparagus toast with aioli and a fried egg) and my partner had the turkey focaccia sandwich. Both had us eating slowly to take in every bite. The space is delightful too. There is a patio outside which is lively with groups of local people eating and chatting, then there is a garden out the back which is quieter and beautifully full of foliage to sit in on a sunny day. The inside is pretty too, with tiled tables, though there isn't loads of space so it may be a squeeze if it ever rains. I can't wait to go back to this spot. read more

OK, so I'm kinda new to Ojai but I love a great Cafe so Ive recently made the rounds regarding coffee shops and cafes in and around Ojai and hands down 3 Birds is at the top of the list. Just calling 3 Birds a coffee shop does it a disservice and gives Yelpers the wrong idea. The 3 Bird folks create more of a community where not only do they have great coffee, but a beautifully considered menu, a small but amazingly curated book store (easily perusable while waiting for your coffee concoction) and large outside area with picnic tables and a Xlarge chalk board for the kids or the kid in all of us. You're always greeted with a smile and a good word and they love making your coffee just the way you like it. Don't miss 3 Birds! read more
