Super cute place for a hangout or even just to come in and get some homework done. I came by on a Saturday morning for a little hangout with my friends, and as soon as you walk in, you're greeted by this small shop area with so many things--from candies to even wine you can grab. I picked up a couple of snacks before my friends got there: the dried freeze strawberry yogurt bites and the s'mores cups. Both were so good and had great macros for my healthy girlies. While I waited, I checked out the menu. They have a good amount of food options, and everything sounded amazing, but I already had my mind set on the full bowl. For my coffee, I wanted to stick to my usual order, but unfortunately they didn't have any sugar-free options, which was a little disappointing. I ended up getting the iced banana latte, and honestly, I was not mad at it was really good! The service was great , everyone is so helpful and so nice ! I wanted to give this place a second try before making my review but couldn't find see myself doing it again. Coffee was okay - I got an iced cookie butter latte. I should've asked for an extra shot of espresso. My regular bagel was burned but the lox bagel was a disappointment. I didn't even think it was ours since I've had lox bagels elsewhere and never looked like this. It looked like some philadelphia lox cream cheese... I know it was a Sunday and it can get busy but for 2 coffees and 2 bagels we spent over 40 mins just waiting and for the bagel to come out wrong. The girl at the counter lacked customer service as I was trying to get her attention to tell her our order was wrong but she never turned. Only after helping 2 other customers did she finally acknowledge me. We waited once again and that's where the lox bagel caught us off guard. My sister asked to clarify if that was indeed the lox bagel and was told yes, we said okay and went on our way. Almost an hour for coffee and bagels and spending almost $50 kinda hurt our experience here. I don't see myself coming back here. read more

Our friend had such wonderful things to say about Buena Bodega, so we were so excited to come over and try their coffee. Love the vibe walking inside with a cute little coffee shop in the back. Was disappointed in their coffee. Coffee itself was alright, but the service was so incredibly slow. We were the only ones there, and it took over 20 minutes for them to make a cappuccino and a cortado. Decent selection of baked goods - really enjoyed our chocolate chip cookie - soft, flavorful, and the perfect amount of flaky salt. They have a good breakfast/lunch menu, but a bit pricey so I didn't try it. Did like their little shop - they had a nice selection of wines and foods. Would be interested in coming back to explore this further. Overall, wasn't the experience I was hoping for here. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. read more

Stopped in after hearing all the rage for this place and was hoping to see a New York style bodega where I can get a chopped cheese sando but was sad to say it was more coffee and toast type of vibe. The little market was awesome though with a fair amount of items I just had to have especially the flakey sea salt from Greece! We grabbed a latte to try and a soft serve that would rival your favorite soft serve, it was creamy with a perfect flavor of vanilla. Finally got a chance to check out Buena Bodega over the weekend. It was a busy Saturday morning! The cucumber feta toast was really delicious the first couple of bites. For my personal taste, it got a bit on the salty side as I kept eating it. Overall, really good but I think I'd ask for less spread for my liking. My husband tried the B. E. C. A. Bagel which was a solid breakfast bagel. We also got a croissant from their baked goods section and it was very good. Delightfully buttery and flaky. For our drinks, we got the banana latte, strawberry matcha, and cappuccino. We enjoyed all drinks. Their current milk alternatives are oat and pistachio. I didn't get a chance to check out the things they sell at the actual bodega section so I look forward to returning and checking that out. And getting some soft serve of course! read more

This was my first time in. The shop had just opened. Looking around quickly they appear to have all your needs for pantry items and cute gift type items. Mental note for birthdays and holiday season. I came for the coffee and was not disappointed. I ordered their Iced Blackberry Latte. I went with pistachio milk as substitute for whole milk, gave a nice nutty touch and bonus has lower sugar than other substitute options. The latte itself with the maple cold foam is absolutely delicious. Barista suggested a straw to stir it all up and that was a great recommendation. Drinking through the straw I got a lot of blackberry seeds so switched to no straw. I will definitely be getting this drink again and trying more on their menu. Next time I may ask for less ice. I understand needing a good amount of ice for the espresso and overall temperature of the iced drink, just felt shorted a tiny bit since it was so delicious and the ratio of ice to drink was more ice. Soft opening this week at Buena Bodega which will be your new one-stop shop for wine, specialty groceries, and the cutest little merch. From the moment you walk in you're hit with an unreal selection of unique goods and foods, all wrapped up in a stunning, urban space you could honestly get lost in for hours. Head towards the back and you'll find an amazing café serving fresh coffee and lattes, loaded bagels, fancy toasts, and so much more. The staff were absolute gems and super nice people. For opening week, they already have things completely locked in. Off to a great start. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, you immediately feel like a local, which is such a feel good vibe. All my questions were answered with ease & everyone working here has smiling faces and seemed happy for the stellar turnout. What I ordered: I went with a classic iced vanilla latte (with the crunchy ice...if you know, you know), and it did not disappoint. My only upgrade is that I like my lattes sweet, so when ordering it with vanilla syrup, I did expect sweeter. It was mild in flavor. No biggie, might add an extra pump or two next time as the vanilla wasn't super pronounced but I'm sure for the regular latte drinkers out there, it's probably made to your taste. 4/5 stars. The real star of the show was the loaded lox chopped bagel. Hands down, the BEST bagel combo I've had in the 805!!!! No exaggeration, 1000% standing by this statement. Everything you love about a lox bagel is there, the fixings all chopped and mixed with cream cheese and put on your bagel of choice, so it's insanely easy to eat. Genius. I'm officially obsessed, and this should be your first order if you're even slightly on the fence. 5/5 stars! It was lovely to sit inside and eat. Very comfortable vibes and I loved the little tables in the cafe. Pricing might seem on the moderate to higher end, but this is a speciality store. I spent about $50 after ordering my loaded bagel, latte, danish, and one grocery item (plus tip of course). A splurge but this spot was well worth it to me. Buena Bodega is such a lovely addition to Ventura! It's such a cutie spot to visit. There's a grocery area with not your average grocery goodies! I bought an instant lentil soup & crouton snacks and they were both delicious! I tried finding it at other stores and online but they're not easy to get. Definitely a good reason to come back ;). Moving along into the shop, there's plenty of seating to catch up with a friend or do some work at. I ordered their strawberry matcha & it was delicious. I wanted to highlight the fact that you can taste the matcha, and it wasn't too milky. The owner asked for my opinion on what to improve on their drink. No improvements needed! It was perfect. Stopped by Buena Bodega for their soft opening and absolutely loved it. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. Great ambiance, good vibes, natural lighting, and the music was on point. Tessa, the owner, introduced herself and was so kind and warm, which made the experience feel even more special. I even made some friends while sitting by the window area. It truly feels like a community hub, and I'm really looking forward to their future events. I ordered the bodega chopped bagel on everything and my usual iced vanilla latte (bonus points for the crushed ice). Both were delicious. This is such a great addition to the Midtown neighborhood. The space is spacious, has restrooms, WiFi (SNACKS1803), and a thoughtfully curated selection of local and specialty goods, plus beer and wine. It is perfect for families, students, people working remotely, or anyone grabbing a coffee and bite. There is also seating area outside for four-legged friends. I am a sucker for merch, and the branding does not disappoint. Anytime I see Comfort Colors, I know quality matters, and that means a lot to me. Parking was easy too, with their own spaces and plenty of nearby street parking. Can't wait to come back. Highly recommend. Current temporary hours are 8am to 2pm and closed on Mondays. read more

Sometimes you walk into a business and feel like you've walked into a friend's house. That was the warmth I felt walking into Buena Bodega. The employees at the retail section greeted me when I entered and it was pretty crowded at the time. I meandered to the rear to the coffee bar. The front has retail items, clothing, dried goods and knick knacks for purchase. The coffee and food is in the back. I chatted with the friendly barista about superbowl Sunday. The test is the taste- ordered an iced latte. It was smooth and delicious. Prices are very reasonable. Adorable! When walking in the store it's really open and organized. They have tiny little carts kids can use. So so cute! The lady up front greeted me with a sweet kind welcome. I ordered the peanut butter and jelly and it was so cute how they spread everything on topped with heart bananas. I also ordered a vanilla latte and a toasted coconut latte and they tasted the same. This is such a cute addition to Ventura! Visiting for the first time, we got a Latte, cortado, and a Bodega Chopped Bagel. I will say - that bagel was probably one of the best I've ever had...it was soft but not in a, this wasn't even toasted way. We were confused at first about the cream cheese not having lox/bacon on top, but then we re-read the menu and saw "perfectly mixed together." While so delish, $18 felt pretty steep for a small, palm sized bagel with a mixed cream cheese. I could see us coming here to treat ourselves or to get a unique food/drink gift for someone. Excited to see how the Bodega grows! Recommendation: umbrellas outside by the tables (the sun hits right there) and light shades in the cafe windows (again, the sun hits and warms/blinds). read more

Been here twice , staff is friendly . The drinks are okay . Had the matcha finished it in one sip, there was so much ice . The iced latte was okay too had more liquid than a to go cup . My favorite is the cucumber dill and olive cake . Order to breakfast items and a coffee comes to $50 every time . It's definitely pricey and would be worth it if the coffee was a bit better . Oh my goodness this place is so cute. I went in around 3:30pm. It was busy. The store and restaurant were busy, but I was still welcomed immediately with a friendly smile. Let's start with the name, "Buena Bodega." It gives off a Spanish, neighborhood vibe, but the place itself feels more like an LA hipster, trying-to-be-healthy type of spot. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't really match what the name suggests. I have nothing against the snacks and drinks they sell, there are actually some good options. But the prices are way too expensive for what you're getting. I tried the iced banana cream matcha latte with cinnamon cold foam and honestly... it was disappointing. The cold foam was basically nonexistent, super thin and didn't add anything to the drink. The matcha itself tasted way too milky, like there wasn't enough matcha in it at all. No strong flavor, barely any color... it just didn't hit. On top of that, there was way too much ice, which made it feel even more watered down. And for nearly $10, it definitely wasn't worth it. Overall, the concept is cute, but the quality and pricing just don't match up. read more

But the price to quality ratio for their drinks was not it for me. $10 for a banana latte and $8+ for the strawberry matcha latte ... Was drawn here for the cute aesthetic and saw a lot of praise on Instagram so I wanted to love it. But the banana cream matcha latte left much to be desired. First of all, I was not informed that they were out of the cold foam which had been hyped up by the person at the register. My drink was just a sad excuse for matcha, way too milky and practically no matcha taste. While the place itself was beautiful, it was pretty stuffy in there and it certainly didn't help having kids run around everywhere. I understand they present themselves as a family friendly place, but I was hit by a kid running around with a shopping cart. Overall the vibes were not right and I paid 10 dollars for a lackluster drink that was pretty small. Not worth it at all. I guess my first question would be where is the manager? Not trying to be a Karen, just maybe not the youngest person in the room and having had a lot of experience in Customer service and food, I felt there was definitely a lack in the former here. And over $40 for two bagels and coffee leads me to have perhaps higher expectations. The food was not hot because the person delivering the food to the counter had such a soft voice as to not be heard over the loud music. So my food sat there way too long. An easy solution for this might be to give a number for each order. The place is charming inside and the food is tasty. And is trying to be hip, but let's face it, It's Ventura. We're not talking New York City here. Maybe try harder just to train your staff about Customer service. read more

This place is so cute and exactly what Ventura needs! Met up with a friend for coffee and got the latte with the toasted coconut syrup and it was perfect! Also love that they use the small ice cubes . My friend got the strawberry bagel special and was obsessed (hoping it becomes a regular item on the menu) and I got the whipped feta toast and was EXACTLY what I was looking for! They don't skimp on the feta and the bread was so soft and fresh! We also split a chocolate chip sea salt cookie and I would highly recommend that you don't leave this place without at least one cookie . The atmosphere is great, the service was so frie and attentive, everyone I saw hanging out was in a good mood and I loved the small shopping cart for the kiddos! This place is so good! Our family went to check it out for lunch and had a delicious Caesar salad, the PB&J, and the chopped bagel. Everything was delicious, but the chopped bagel was epic!! Only comes with 2 shots so I asked for a 3rd, it sounded like the add-shot was the same price for 1 vs 2 so I took the 2. $3 more, my drink was $13!!! Yikes! It was tasty but I will not order like that again. Honestly even a $9 for what was a grande cup size. I get it's a small business vs Starbs but leaving, I felt like wow no. :/ Place was cute though. This place is INCREDIBLE!! The iced strawberry matcha is the BEST matcha I have ever had. Their food is also very quality and delicious. The grocery items, drinks and wine are top notch and you would never find the same selection anywhere else locally. Every time I have been in the service is amazing. It's one of those spots that I want to like so bad - the selections in the shop are thoughtful, enticing, and obviously well curated for the overall vibe. The merch is soooo sick, the colors are great, and they're honestly very well priced for what most coffee shops merch is priced at. The people are delightful - kind, informative, helpful. I love that, especially at a time where you can pull up to a competing spot (rag) and the service isn't consistent or kind. However, the three stars is for the food and matcha I got. I got the BECA bagel and everything inside of it was great, absolutely delicious. The texture of the bagel: exceptional. The bagel flavor: salty. So salty. I can get past that for sure. Maybe I'll try the plain bagel next time. The strawberry matcha? 9.50 with oat milk and absolutely just tasted like watered down oat milk. I went back in the grab a spoon and mix the strawberry in - that was absolutely necessary for the flavor. My advice would be: if a drink is meant to be mixed for it to taste good, provide that info and provide a mixing tool of some sort. Maybe strawberry cold foam on top. I say this because, while maybe you add less matcha to the drink so the strawberry can shine, I took a sip expecting a matcha latte before mixing and I got green oat milk. I'm willing to go back and try a regular matcha just to give it another shot, but for now it's three stars for me. With so much good coffee, matcha, and breakfast/brunch in the area, it wouldn't be a revisit for me if I wasn't trying to give it a second chance. Looks like it was the vision of a Montessori nursery school teacher- scandi wood furniture and tables. Kid sounding drinks- a banana something something latte? Homeschoolers at one table, a family with little tykes and a baby; little kids walking around pushing mini-carts, really emphasizes the nursery school cafe vibe. It is VERY SELF Serve- you barely need to ask the baristas for anything because it's "already out there." Food and coffee were good. N The front part of the store has tin fish and greeting cards, and expensive weird potato chips, some wine. I think all of that merch could be consolidated on one wall. What is the message? What do tin fish, and cards have in common? Gifts? It's hard to open a restaurant- good luck! read more

Just came here for the first time for lunch. It's so cute in there and the grocery area has some really cool gems in it. I got one of the bowls and it was great! Very generous portions so it's worth the cost. My only suggestion would be to cook the tofu...It was just kinda warmed on top. Everyone working there was so nice! I'll be back for sure. read more
