It was in the morning on a Saturday when I came so there was a bit of a line but not too long. After about five minutes, I got a chance to order. I opted for an iced mocha. I would've liked to try one of the yummy looking croissants they had available from Pinyon but the people in front of me got the last one! After a couple of minutes, my order came out. Once I swirled everything together, I thought there was a good balance of everything! The syrup, the coffee, and the milk. It was a nice pick me up for the hot day ahead. I was in town so naturally, needed to check out a new coffee shop. I saw some rave reviews on this one. Parking was easy, found a spot close by. Pretty big space inside, some seating for you to meet up with someone or work. I asked what's the most popular drink and he said the vanilla iced latte. I went with that as all the specialty drinks didn't interest me too much and seemed like they would be too sweet. It didn't take too long until it was ready. Nice flavor! Strong coffee without being bitter whatsoever, it tastes like good quality espresso. And it wasn't too sweet, I got it half sweet with the vanilla, and it was nicely balanced. When I first moved to Ventura a few years ago, I discovered Prospect Coffee Roasters, and it quickly became one of those reliable, feel good spots. West Ventura has no shortage of great coffee options now, but this is still one of my go to places. I love that I can walk in, grab my iced vanilla latte, and be on my way without any fuss. The loyalty points definitely do not hurt either. They always keep me coming back. I am honestly not sure where some of the negative reviews come from. At a certain point, it feels like people are just committed to complaining and cosplaying as coffee critics. Every time I am there, I am greeted, the service is efficient, and the drinks are consistent. I did not realize it was illegal for coworkers to talk to each other. And yes, dogs are not allowed inside. That is basic health department rules and common sense. If you are in downtown Ventura, this is the place to come to for the best espresso drinks. If you are anywhere else in Ventura, this is still the place to come for the best espresso drinks. Prospect Coffee Roasters excels on every level. They use high quality beans. Their espresso is freaking delicious. They've got great cookies and pastries too. That is, of course, if you get there before they're sold out. Customer service is exemplary. The baristas are efficient; it doesn't take long for your drink to be ready, even when it's busy. And it's almost always busy! This place is hella popular. Sometimes it's difficult to find a table, or even a stool at the bar. Even though it's noisy AF when it's busy, I often see people trying to work on laptops. Another great thing about Prospect Coffee Roasters is that they have a customer loyalty program. Your membership is linked to the credit card you pay with, so each subsequent time you pay with that card you earn a point. It's automatic, you don't have to have a stupid little paper card punched or stamped. It doesn't take long to accumulate enough points for a free drink of your choice. I hate to leave a negative review but for all the folks who are serious about quality matcha - this isn't your place. Matcha was awful and no amount of customization made it better. If you're looking for coffee in the downtown ventura district, you'll hear the name "prospect" come up. Located a couple blocks from Main, this little shop comes highly recommended. Sadly, the drinks did not meet my expectations. I ordered an iced Strawberry Fields matcha latte, iced Strawberry Fields Latte, and iced Vanilla Latte. I came here after hearing great things about a black sesame matcha but sadly it is a seasonal drink only! :( I tried their seasonal strawberry fields drinks but was disappointed in the flavor. I was expecting a more matcha-y flavor but was instead hit with a lot of cinnamon! Then again, cinnamon syrup is one of the ingredients. I just felt like the cinnamon overpowered the strawberry and the matcha. The same can be said for the latte version. The vanilla latte was not sweet enough so we added some sweetener using the self serve bottle. The staff were nice and helped us out with recommendations. I wouldn't blame them that the drinks weren't to our liking. Inside the shop was cute, modern, and had that beach feel. It would be a great spot to do some work or study. read more

Prospect Coffee Roasters is definitely worth a stop when you're in Ventura. The place was buzzing with activity and there was a bit of a line, but the friendly staff kept things moving with good energy and smiles. The drinks we did get were well-crafted and tasted great, you can tell they care about quality here. The only bummer (and the reason this is a 4-star review instead of 5) was that they were completely out of caramel ingredients, which is a non-negotiable for the mom of our household. When caramel is life, that's a tough miss! They did give a solid recommendation for a substitute, so kudos for that. Still, great vibe, solid coffee, and pleasant service. I don't get the hype on this one! I got the vanilla latte and felt that it was just okay. A little too milky for me and wanted more coffee flavor but was a bit underwhelming. The vanilla was definitely there but I've had better lattes. The interior is nice and spacious and very modern though with good seating options and outlets. The baristas were nice and helpful and quick with my drink. There was also a good amount of street parking for a Sunday afternoon and they weren't too busy. Cute little neighborhood gem! Tucked in a quiet corner of Ventura, this cozy coffee shop has a chill, welcoming vibe. The staff are so kind and patient here, I was unsure of what to order so I asked a few questions and they were super kind about it. I love that their baked goods come from a local shop, the cheese and pepper scone was absolutely delicious! As for the coffee, it was very good but I am more of a chocolate and nut undertone for my coffee, I don't particularly like the acidic taste of fruit in my beans. I love Prospect coffee. It's truly some of the best in the area. I usually get a cappuccino and don't stay. They don't offer hot breakfast, just a handful of pastries which often sell out. They also sell a variety of beans for take home! Seating is slightly limited as people as working, but there is always a table that will open up. Water station available and a clean bathroom as well. The one thing I can't give a star for is service. The baristas act like you are a nuisance. When I hand them my card or money, they don't even make eye contact. This has happened many times. I've never really understood why there's a need to be so standoffish. It's just coffee. But I will look past this and go there when I'm in the area. Staff not very accommodating, asked for no foam on my chai tea just warm milk and was told it was company policy that all drinks have to have the foam. I asked again for just warm milk just to make sure I was hearing right and was told I would have to have the foam or choose another establishment. Tried to reach out to management to confirm this policy and didn't get any response. Lots of amazing coffee shops in Ventura that don't seem to have the foam policy so I'll spend my money at the more accommodating shops. A couple days after posting this review an employee did reach out. Not management just an employee and assured me that it is NOT company policy to force foam on people who do not want foam in their drinks. And would speak to employees about this. read more
