OMG. I gave SpiceTopia SO MUCH business yesterday! I was just browsing stores along Main St., thinking I wouldn't buy anything, and then I found this remarkable place. I wounds up with two bags (!!) of tea, olive oil, vinegar, spice, snacks, and barbecue sauce. I appreciated being able to sample some of their items before purchasing them. This is the place to go for all your loose leaf tea needs. They have it ALL! The only hard part is deciding which ones to get because so many are good. And they smell amazing. I have been a fan of this shop since the day it opened many years ago, and have remained a loyal customer through 2 changes of ownership. The sheer variety of spices available is a little mind-boggling, many of which one simply cannot find in any conventional grocery store, and they are invariably FAR more fresh than what can be found in bulk packaging from giant corporations like McCormick. Not only is this one of my favorite shops for spices and tea, it's literally just one of my favorite shops as a whole in Ventura. I love the fact that I can get any spice when I need it, and also in bulk if necessary. Even if you need exotic/rare ones, they have no problem special ordering for you. I have moved 3 times since and still have my favorite bags of garlic salt and some of the flavored oils and vinegars. They have all the spices one could ever dream about. I've been getting my "secret" steak and chop rub here for years. In the last few years it's been under new ownership - the owner was fantastic! I typically order online but I wanted to visit the home to many of my "secret ingredients". We were able to smell many of the spices, I ended up with not only my own stash but a few as gifts. Met these lovely people giving out samples at the wine walk. After tasting g their delicious coffee blends we went in to shop. They have a unique collection of teas and coffees. I ended up buying a chai tumeric blend very tasty and healthy and an oolong blend. The staff was wonderful and explained the origins of the teas and coffees. Under new management this is a cute redone spice and gift store New owner Anna-Marie Tan with help of family. Met her father Johnathan and Carol who was working retail and very helpful with my choices. The store had a nice spacious calm atmosphere. I did feel the quantity and variety of choices for spices was lacking but they made up for this with the great quality. They do have many awesome balsamic vinegars and olive oils with a tasting area in the back of the store. I felt like this area was a little plain and not quite done decorating feeling. Would like something with a little more warm welcoming feel. Seems like a work in progress. Worth a stop. read more

Apparently they offer cooking classes, as well as a wide variety of goods to purchase. The historic building provides a rich backdrop to the decor of the shop. Dear Hubby asked if they sell blooming tea. They don't, but the clerk suggested Jasmine pearls as something unique. We decided to try them after sniffing the aroma. They have an extensive collection of loose teas for purchase, with small glass containers laid out so that patrons can get a whiff of the flavors. I saw something similar at a tea shop, also. This is a fun place to visit on Main Street if you enjoy tea or spices. They offer a deal where you get credit for each visit, with a $5 credit after your 5th time. Nice! read more

If you have the opportunity to take a cooking class at Spice-topia, do it! I recently took the Indian cooking class. Although, this particular class was a demonstration, not hands on, I learned a lot. Chef Lu sent us home with the knowledge and recipes. She served us several delights and all left more than satisfied. I enjoyed it so much and signed up for their upcoming cookie design class. Stopped in on Saturday night..one of the owners ( wish I got his name) was working and was sooo super kind and friendly!! He let my friend and I test all kinds of the different brands of butter ..smores, chocolate, and there was a toffee falvor but there wasn't a jar out for testing..he walked over to the shelves and opened a new one just we could try it out!! Sooo yummy! And it's homemade in Ventura!! Gotta support the locals! I bought the toffee which has Heath Bar crumbles in it and us all natural! OMGOSH to dieeee for!!! Store is super clean and tidy! We stopped by Spice-Topia while walking around the Main Street. It got my attention before, but we never checked it out. I like the layout and the merchandise. It's a cute place, great store to buy interesting gifts. They do sell interesting spices, but also tapenades, spreads, jellies, teas, olive oil, all different, all made locally, in Ventura, Ojai and Santa Barbara area. They also have cookbooks and cute local pottery, decent prices, great for your house or as a gift. Nice store, decent customer service, fits perfectly on the Main Street where there are mainly indie, local businesses - a major plus for me. I was finishing my workout when I walked by here and decided to walk in. This place is soo adorable! You walk in and just inhale all the delicious spices. I'm no cook and I want to buy all the spices just so I can smell them all the time. They have an assortment of loose teas, which I love! On top of that, they also have cooking/kitchen ware. Stuff that would make great gifts even if you're not a cook. They have cooking demos once or twice a month by a chef Amy. I decided it wouldn't hurt to try it out even if I never cook anything. $35 for the demo and you get to sample the food and you get a cookbook. Something fun to try in the area. read more

Stopped in here after passing through Ventura. Unfortunately my husband was sick on our trip but luckily we found Spice-Topia. We had fun smelling all the tea displays and decided to buy the Jasmine Plum Green Tea. It smells amazing! I can't wait to brew this stuff. We also picked up some Fleur de Sel. We saw that they brew tea there for you so we asked the woman working if she could blend something that would soothe a sore throat. I'm not sure what she made but she blended it with licorice, spearmint, and honey. My husband said it was the best tea he's ever had. He was super impressed and best of all it helped soothe his sore throat. We're sad we don't have store like this closer to us. I'd definitely recommend this store to any tea drinker or someone who loves interesting spices. read more

A great store with a huge selection of teas. Super helpful staff and a lot of other items as well. I bought a prepackaged spice kit called Instant Bartender. Made with organic ingredients, you just add your own favorite liquor and you instantly have a very interesting cocktail. My cocktail of choice is an old-fashioned and what an awesome version created in a jar! The ingredients work out to about four drinks for $12. A very fair deal and a fun experience.
