What a fantastic first time experience. Barrel 33 although it's labeled as a Wine Bar it does also serve some fabulous food. Reservations required because seating is limited. You'll understand whenever you are actually here! Ring the bell and you will be admitted by the Owner Parfait who is also your server! Very cordial & uniquely friendly person who actually does his best to make every person at his tables feel that they've know him forever. We ordered our wines mostly whites because we believe the menu to be more suited. The appetizer was the Artisan Cheese Plate with the Chef's selection of 4 cheeses and fruit and a baguette the 4 of us enjoyed it immensely as we sipped wine and tasted the various cheeses. Each had a vey distinct flavor which we mixed different fruits and nuts as enhancements. When the entrees arrived we had three different kinds of sauces for the pennes the ladies ordered the Pesto Pasta, penne and homemade fresh pesto My son ordered the Santa Barbara Smoked House Salmon w/ a light French Tarragon et ca sauce Creme Fraiche he was impressed with the thinly sliced salmon and the flavor it brought to his dish and I ordered the Spicy Italian Spicy Italian 'Nudja sausage sauce with penne very delightful with tiny bits of ground sausage. Unfortunately no rooms for desert on this trip! Come visit and enjoy the Garden like setting or the inside dining area and the wonder hospitality of Parfait.

Super cute restaurant with quaint details like ringing a bell to gain entry. Service was prompt and cheerful. I think Parfait, the owner, was the only person serving, but we were never neglected. The Italian wine was delicious. I enjoyed sharing the large-sized Maison salad and the meaty pizza. The pizza was an individual size and had a thin and crispy crust. I enjoyed the arugula salad on top. A bit pricey, but an enjoyable overall experience.

Can I give more than 5 stars?? We went there last night for my birthday. It was beyond incredible. The owner was incredible and really great with my wine since the one I wanted he didn't have. The St. Emillion was incredible! Had two glasses. We started with the pate. So light and delectable with warm bread, great mustard and incredible cornichons. Then I had the Ventura pizza. Their crust is so thin but firm. I can't have cows milk so I had it only with goat cheese. Their crust pesto and Kalamata olives were so tasty. Then we finished with the Petite Vesuvius Soufflé. Oh my! And again I couldn't have whipped cream but he brought out a plate with strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate for my husband. We sat on the patio with heaters and it was perfect! This place is incredible! Thank you for making my birthday incredible.

OMG what an amazing restaurant and experience. The owner Parfait welcomes you and makes you feel so welcome that you leave feeling as a you are departing from a dear friend's house. The food was so above and beyond! We started with the Canard Pate and a French wine. I have not had that wonderful a pate since my time in France. The Barrel 33 Salad was just what I love with nuts, fruit and vinegarette. We both had pasta. I had the Russian Penne and my wife had the White and Blue Penne. Both were great with a lot of flavor layers. The pasta was cooked perfectly. To finish we had the Petite Fantasy. Chocolate overload in the best way possible. What was great was that we were joking with Parait about my wife's love for whipped cream. 5 mins later after the dessert, he brought her a bowl of whipped cream, just for her! Very nice! Overall, there is no substitute for quality and Parfait and the Barrel 33 restaurant are the best quality! Oh and the French music was cool too!

    My dog approves!

This restaurant is a step above. The vibes here are immaculate! I so enjoyed sitting outside with my friend and my doggie, listening to a trickling waterfall. Gorgeous plants and flowers all around us. The service was wonderful, and the food is just delicious! I drove up from LA and it was well worth the drive! My favorite dish was the bbq chicken pizza, but the white and blue pasta was also so delicious. I must come back to explore the dessert menu.

Pesto pasta. Not the tastiest. I would not get this again

Went back after not being there a little over a year. We had a reservation for 5:30pm but we're late 10 -15 mins. Anyone that knows me knows I'm always early to everything so this was a total fluke! We got lost and with the X games there was extra traffic. The owner was pretty bothered by it and he would not drop it. I could've called but I was driving and stressed to get there on time. I'm never late. Like never always early to all events and reservations! Did not have the best experience and I get it we were late but the constant bringing it up was off putting. Def didn't enjoy my birthday dinner which was supposed to be special. Honestly, we should've just left. We didn't, I kept trying to turn it around but he just had the worst attitude. Maybe it would've been best to not show up and go across the street or another restaurant. I apologized but he couldn't believe a local would get lost. Cute place .. magical in fact! I just can't excuse this, it was my friend's first time there. This is place is what I choose as my bday dinner outing.. her treat. I'm sorry we were late but I genuinely don't get his humor or whatever it was today. My friend asked how to pronounce his name as she didn't want to get it wrong and he asked her if she could read. Literally said.. if it's on my tag and you can read then read it :/ I love supporting local .. It is hard for me give this place a 1 but this interaction was just awful. Ruined my birthday celebration. I didn't really love my pasta but I did finish it. I prefer the white sauced dish there! It's delicious! My friend didn't finish her meal. A pizza with a flour tortilla crust. Embarrassed I choose this place and got rude service. Maybe it was a total off day or really really made him upset or we just don't understand his personality.. I do not know. He said he wasn't upset but his behavior said otherwise. I left with so much anxiety and feeling like dirt . Check it out for yourselves ..

The signage at the front of the restaurant. The metal bell that you ring to get in can be seen at the top left of the sign.

This is a hidden gem. Yes it's on a main drag (Thompson Blvd) but easy to drive by because of the unusual signage for a restaurant (see the photo). You walk up to the wooden fence and ring the bell. Parfait, the owner came to the gate pretty quickly. He warned us that, because he was working the restaurant alone this night, he could seat us right away but wouldn't be able to serve us for about a half hour. We were in no rush so that worked for us. He gave us our choice of a couple of couches on the patio. He brought water pretty quickly but, as promised, it was a while until he could even take or orders. The patio is lovely so a really nice place to sit and wait (see photos). Tables are nicely spaced so you are not hearing anyone else's conversations. After about ten later, Parfait came by to take our drink orders. Even though it is a wine bar, they have three beers on tap. Count me as a happy camper. Another ten minutes and Parfait took our meal orders. I went with the sausage and pepper pasta ($25). My wife went with the Russian pasta dish ($24). My dish was a good sized portion (meaning I couldn't finish it in one sitting) of penne pasta perfectly prepared with a mildly spicy red sauce and a good amount of sausage. DELISH!!! My wife's Russian was also a penne pasta with chicken and crushed sun dried tomatoes in a red creamy vodka sauce. Also DELISH!!! Poor Parfait was acting as host, waiter, busboy, cook and manager. Despite that, service was slow but excellent. Parfait is warm and welcoming. You feel like you are dining in his home patio rather than a restaurant.

The food is delicious, and the ambiance is so pretty and warming and cozy. The service was fantastic. He kept making sure the table had water and plenty of bottles of wine for the table. The fire at the table was perfect for the setting of the mood.

Service- Parfait was so sweet, personable and funny! He was great. Never met him before but he treated us like we were old friends. Ambiance- main reason why I came was the ambiance I love the outdoor seating. The garden is well done and maintained. Food: loved the wine, some of the best I've had. I'm not a big pasta person but came here cus I heard they had great pasta. I got the white and blue pasta SO GOOD. One of the best pastas I've ever had. Would absolutely recommend and come back !

Hands down one of my top favorite restaurants now. This is such a beautiful hidden gem, it was perfect for the vibe we wanted.such a great atmosphere It was upscale but casual at the same time especially since it was out doors. It definitely had the French ambiance going and I love how it was reservation only. It made sense because when you walked out, it was beautifully set and decorated outside. The owner was the one serving you and for being by himself, everything was great, his customer service was the best and he made sure all of us were ok. As for the food, it was delicious! We got the spicy pepper and sausage pasta, very good especially if you like spicy. Very flavorful. We also got the meat lovers pizza which was so good too as well as the charcuterie board. It was all perfect for a date night of 2, all were so filling and everything tasted amazing! The wines were delicious as well. It started to rain but honestly it was perfect being outside. We had shade covers but the rain in the hot 77 degree weather felt great and no one at all eating cared, it was very perfect especially where we were eating. This has now become one of our favorite spots for date nights and we plan to come back very soon!

I'm new to town and my two best friends were visiting and were craving pasta. I looked up pasta places on yelp and found Barrel 33 which looked promising. This place exceeded our expectations. I honestly loved that it was 21 + also. No kids running around. The service , outstanding! I think it was the owner helping us out. He was amazing! And the pasta was incredible! The smells were intoxicating of fresh tomato and the ambiance was cozy and comfortable. 100000% recommend you go here! Merci beaucoup!

Customer service was still great, but I noticed a few changes that took away from the experience for us personally. I do like that the tastings are no longer in the plastic tubes, although the tubes did feel like they held a little more wine. What we didn't enjoy was that when multiple people ordered the same tastings, they were placed into the same shared glass/container. In our party of four, three of us had the same six tastings and had to share. I appreciated the bow on the glass showing the pours, but I preferred the previous setup where everyone had their own individual tastings. It may seem small, and thankfully our group was fine sharing, but it made the experience feel less personal and honestly made us less interested in doing tastings again on future visits. Some people also may not feel comfortable sharing containers or touching the same glass. Nothing terrible at all, just some feedback from longtime visitors who loved how it used to be. On this visit we actually ended up ordering a bottle afterward instead, and moving forward we'll probably just continue doing that rather than the tastings.

Last December, a friend came across The Cave while looking for a place to have lunch in Ventura and…read moresuggested we give it a try. I'm really glad he did because it's the kind of place I probably wouldn't have found on my own. The first thing that caught our attention was the self-serve wine dispensers lined with bottles ready to sample. We had a lot of fun walking back and forth, looking over the different selections, and deciding what to taste next. Being able to sample wines by the ounce before committing to a full glass made the whole experience feel interactive. I especially liked that I could compare different Cabernet Sauvignons side by side, which isn't something you get to do very often. After trying a few different Cabernets, Chimney Rock ended up being my favorite. The dining room added to the experience. The cave-like ceilings, warm lighting, and comfortably spaced tables made it easy to settle in, enjoy our lunch, and catch up without feeling cramped or rushed. If you enjoy trying different wines, it's easy to lose track of time here. We started with a cheese plate, which turned out to be much more generous than I expected. It came with a nice assortment of cheeses, crisp apple slices, grapes, candied walnuts, crostini, and a savory relish on the side. It was a great dish to share with our wine. My friend ordered the tuna poke tower, and we shared the cheese flatbread and sweet potato fries. I went with the Original Cave Salad with salmon, which came with a generous piece of perfectly cooked salmon over fresh greens, apples, grapes, walnuts, and blue cheese. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous enough that we left completely satisfied. One thing I appreciated was that we never felt rushed. Lunch naturally turned into an afternoon of catching up, comparing notes on the different wines, and deciding which pours we wanted to try next. Before we left, we wandered through the wine shop one more time. If you discover a favorite during lunch, you can pick up a bottle before heading home, which is a nice touch. I'm really glad my friend found this place. The next time I'm in Ventura, it'll definitely be on my list again.

The day before, the owner Michele couldn't seem to find the paperwork where we discussed menu, family style, decor, budget etc. Thankfully, we went in the day before to double check everything. Not only were we met with a misogynistic retort to everything we talked about but he did not clarify any details that we later found out would be important. The day of the event, we accidentally hit a bottle of wine bringing in the decorations. Total accident! During the party, we had to constantly find our server (super nice guy but terrible service) to take drink orders, to take food orders, and to clear the table and bring to go boxes. Drinks weren't refilled. We cut and served the cake we brought. Then our bill comes and surprising to us, we were charged a room fee (which I confirmed they DID NOT have prior to booking), charged a cake fee (just for them to store it in their fridge and NEVER told there would be a fee for bringing a dessert, despite Michele asking the day before if we were bringing our own or using them for dessert), and he charged us $50 for the bottle we accidentally broke. With all these extra charges, in addition to already paying a deposit, we were way over the previously discussed budget. I never would have agreed to his idea of everyone ordering individual dishes instead of family style plus his outrageous extra fees had I know it was going to blow the budget. He had every opportunity to tell us there is a cake fee (never have I EVER had to pay a fee to bring a cake- even our server said he felt it was in poor taste to charge us for that). We refused to pay the room fee because we already put down a deposit and were never told there would be these extraneous charges! The terrible ending happened when I slipped and fell (8 months pregnant) in the front of the restaurant RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE OWNER, who stood over me as I was on the ground, and said "you must have slipped on the wine you spilled." Never offered concern, never offered to help me and never apologized. A staff member from the kitchen ran out to help me despite Michel being an arms length from me, looking down on me. Such a disgrace. My dress was dirtied from their floor and I was left with bruises on my knees the next day. No wet floor sign, clearly the floor wasn't cleaned up properly or dried. We will never patronize this restaurant again. What was meant to be a beautiful event turned into a calamity met with a chauvinist owner who lacks customer service and compassion.

If you know me, then you already know... this is my happy place…read more I don't even know where to begin because this place has become so much more than a tasting room to me. Majestic Oak is my happy place. Seriously. The second I walk downstairs, I instantly relax. I don't know what it is... maybe it's the red umbrellas, the beautiful greenery, the cozy little patio, or just the overall atmosphere. I close my eyes for a second, take a deep breath, and it honestly feels like I've escaped into my own little world. I come here about once a month, and there's a reason I became a wine club member. Yes, the location is absolutely beautiful, but let's talk about the wine... every. single. one. has been amazing. I'm usually more of a red wine girl, but even their whites have surprised me. They're crisp, refreshing, and just plain delicious. I honestly haven't had a wine here that I didn't love. But what really keeps me coming back is the people. Rita deserves the biggest shout-out. It's not just that she takes amazing care of us every time we visit. It's her personality. Her knowledge. Her passion for the wines. She makes you feel like you've been friends forever, and somehow every visit feels even more special because she's there. She has this way of making everyone feel welcome, and that kind of hospitality is something you can't teach. For me, Majestic Oak isn't just somewhere to drink wine. It's where I go to slow down, breathe, laugh, and enjoy life for a little while. It has become my home away from home, and I honestly can't imagine a month going by without stopping in. If you're anywhere near Ojai, do yourself a favor and visit. Come for the wine... stay because you'll probably fall in love with everything else too. One last thing... we stopped by today, as usual, and Kristy took such incredible care of us! She was so welcoming, attentive, and made our visit just as memorable. It reminded me that the amazing service here isn't just one person; it's the culture. Every visit leaves us feeling like family, and that's something truly special. (Oh... and if you see Bruce, make sure you say hi! He's the sweetest little furball and just might steal your heart before your first sip of wine. ) Thank you, Majestic Oak, for creating a place that truly feels... Majestic.

On a Thursday night it was pretty dead but we didn't mind, WE ARE the party! The restaurant/ bar is surprisingly spacious which wasn't outright apparent from the outside. Once you walk in there is a nice long bar on the right hand side. A couple of booths and plenty of tables. It was actually a lovely evening (plus our group gets loud & rowdy) so we decided to sit outside on the high top patio table. It was perfect as it could fit the seven of us no problem. Initially i worried how service would be as we were alone on the patio but immediately my concerns went away as we had a fabulous bartender named Jordan helping us out. Despite making the drinks inside and engaging with customers at the bar, he was very attentive to our outside patio group. The drinks were brought out at an impressive pace and we felt valued as customers. Jordan gave great suggestions for shooters for us to try and also was overly accommodating, by allowing us to all pay separate/individual checks per our request. I grow to appreciate that more nowadays because some businesses do give patrons a hard time about splitting tabs. I was grateful despite being a big group he was willing to accommodate us. We only came for drinks, so I can't speak for the food but this spot is a solid bar. They have some interesting cocktails and I liked that they had a couple of shooter/shot options. Good selection of beer and even some wines. I really enjoyed both my Mexican candy shot and the purple heater shot that Jordan recommended for me and a friend. Drinks were cold and they kept flowing. Easy to give this spot 5 stars as the service was good, atmosphere was welcoming, and reasonable prices for being on Main Street. I'd definitely come back and would be happy to try some appetizers next time to see how the food is. My only baby upgrade is that the patio cushions on the chairs need a good wash or to be replaced. Otherwise everything else was clean from the tables, to the bar area, to the restrooms etc. The patio just needs a tiny bit of TLC which a couple of us noted. We had a great experience here though and I'm glad we stumbled upon this spot.

Great time visiting here…read more Mike treats you like a local. Pours heavy. Tells you about every wine. The service is in point. The ambiance is super chill. Definitely will be back. The reds, whites, roses, and ports are on point. Bought a couple bottles. Can't wait to come back. Thanks Mike and team for a great time! I really love how they give you packaged bread sticks in between tastings. Nice touch!

Tasting: $15 (return flight $9, because sometimes one flight is not enough)…read more Wonderful wines and awesome customer service sum up what this family owned/operated winery is all about. Two sisters (Elissa & Holly) married two brothers (Matt & Mike) and started this weekend project which has turned into quite a fun weekend escape. Elissa and her father, Walt, are usually manning the tasting room and are the most gracious hosts. It's a quaint, boutique winery and tasting room, which recently joined forces with the folks from Trois le Fou Winery. They each have their own tasting rooms, but they're joined and share a large production/barrel room area, which is also available for private events in addition to scheduled events and live music/comedy. They don't offer food, but you are welcome to bring in your own snacks/charcuterie. Parking is plentiful, as the business park is mostly closed on the weekends. WINES: Their wines change regularly, as they purchase their fruit from Paso Robles, Lodi, and San Antonio Valley, among other places. I think that their Sauvignon Blanc is a standard and we really enjoy it, but they also do a nice Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Malbec, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their "Speakeasy Wine Club" offers three levels of membership: "Blind Grape (6/yr)", "Bootlegger (12/yr)", and "Last Call (18/yr)", depending on the number of bottles you want per shipment/pick-up. Bottles currently run in the $38 - $50 range (before club member discounts). We love visiting the Lester Cellars family and highly recommend you stop in and check out their latest vintages. The service and wine are wonderful, and I'm betting you'll enjoy yourself as much as we do.

SERVICE: I appreciated the cheese samples once seated…read more There's a deli in the back to buy blocks of cheese or spreads. Nextdoor also carries a lovely room of some great wines. The employees were kind, place was clean, there's in and outdoor seating, and parking is what you make of it as PP is located on a blocked off street where cars are not permitted. All to say, research where you wish to walk about, find a meter or free parking lot - enough around, and put on your good yet cute walking shoes because you'll enjoy strolling about after your meal here - or drink. FOOD: I sooo loved my grill cheese. Instead of mushrooms I swapped for spinach - you're welcome. AND THE PICKLE ON THE SIDE - delish! So why 4 and not 5? Because of my limited lifestyle I found the menu a bit limiting. However, I am not a HUGE cheese person and I don't drink. With that said, I feel anyone else who loves to indulge in that world should have a super great experience. Mine was still great. WELL: I actually enjoyed my time and shall return. My mother loves a good red wine so I'll bring her too.
