First time here, thanx to fellow Yelpsters. The place was clean and has a cool vibe, feels old school Italian, except missing the checkerboard tablecloths. As foodies, we are always looking for fresh, and authentic. The food is good and authentic. It was hot and came out of the kitchen fast. We were there close to closing, so I always take that in before a review. WE felts the service was effeicient, but not particuallriy friendly or inspiring when asking items on the menu. There was another server, tall guy with glasses, that was super friendly that helped us a bit. Typically we do not order dessert, but the mud pie sucked us i. Was very good. The only disappointment was the minestrone soup - pretty bad and not hot. I will chock that up to being at the end of the night. The parking is a bit tricky (in back and one way), but the food is worth it. Overall experience was good and we will return. read more

Food and ambiance good but service was terrible! Went in on a Sunday evening close to 8 and the waitress (short brunette with her hair in a messy bun) was bothered and rude. Tone was very very short, she didn't offer refills, nor check on us to see if our food was ok. Felt very unwelcome. I hope the owner sees this and talks to her. read more

Dominick's is an Oxnard institution. My family and I grew up eating excellent and authentic Italian over the last 50 years. One of my many favorites is their pastas and pizzas. Their sauce is very flavorful always fresh and tangy. This time I ate the spaghetti with meat sauce and meat ravioli. An enduring favorite of mine. The pizza crust is crispy. I always enjoy their green salad with freshly made dressings. Dominick's is a local treasure that never goes out of style. The restaurant has an old school feel with lit candles on the tables. This restaurant has delicious, authentic Italian dishes and flavors. Be prepared to overcome a bit of trickiness with the parking if you've never been there before. But trust me, it is worth the effort. We enjoyed the combo entree of spaghetti with marinara and ravioli with meat and cheese along with the fettuccine alfredo with chicken. Both dishes were truly delicious. Well-balanced flavors, attractive presentation and delivery by a very friendly staff. The bread made on site melts in your mouth as easily as the butter does. It may not have turned out the way I wanted it but I really relish new experiences in new restaurants that I've never been to and I don't live anywhere near an Oxnard I was visiting. Beware if you order the chicken parm. The "chicken parm" here is not authentic by any stretch. What came out was basically two plain grilled chicken breasts with cheese melted on top--no breading, no sauce baked in, nothing that resembles traditional chicken parmesan. It honestly felt like the food may have been pre-made in skillets and then reheated when ordered. The dish lacked freshness and any real depth of flavor. If you're expecting a classic Italian chicken parm, this isn't it. I wouldn't order this dish again and recommend clarifying what you're getting before ordering. Service was ok though. read more

Waitress Celia made us feel like an inconvenience. She did not smile once. Hopefully she can smile more, we were uncomfortable by her demeanor. I have been to Dominick's one before, about a year ago, and it was good enough we decided to give it another try. I went with a party of 3 adults and 2 kids. When ordering from the kids menu, we asked for the half spaghetti half ravioli, but for butter instead of marinara sauce (my son doesn't like tomato sauce). They said it would cost $2 more for butter, and I was honestly shocked. They offered he could also get the buttered spaghetti and we could get a side of ravioli. I've managed food service operations in the past, and I'm a small business owner. Butter costs less than tomatoes. That they would only make that substitution for a $2 upcharge is their right, but what terrible customer service. We got up and left instead of spending likely $100+ on five dinners. First time visiting and was impressed. Nothing fancy about the building and room itself. But at 6pm was packed and pleasant atmosphere. Was able to get drinks from the bar as we waited and everyone was friendly, including other customers. They carry a fine selections of wines, including Austin Hope, Justin and other familiar labels. The sausage appetizer was flavorful though a bit dry but the sauce cured that minor flaw. The manicotti was to die for and the ravioli was filled with a delicious plenty of meat and spices and the sauce was very nice. Service was polite and informative and bus boys busy and attentive. Inedible $45 NY steak. I looked right at Brian and told him how much I loved their Medium Rare NY steak. I ordered it MR and got this gray looking terrible meat. They're closed on Monday and Tuesday but I'm going to wrap this up and take it back. I hope I don't get a fight on my re-order. We've been customers for 40 years. Disappointing Not only this, but Brian turns off the phone so no to-go orders by phone. I drove there to order so we could watch football at home. Then I went home and went back to pick up my order. I've never come here and not had a great meal. Their pizzas, pastas and specials are all delicious. I usually get an Alfredo fettuccine with brocolli (and shrimp if I'm feeling extra hungry) with some type of martini alongside it. This is one place in Ventura County that does Italian food RIGHT. I also highly recommend their ravioli and eggplant dishes. Their bread is always fresh and you can smell it when you walk in. I've been on so many fun friend nights here where we all enjoy a good meal and good drinks. Their martinis are STRONG and service is usually very good. They only time I've had to wait is on a busy friday or saturday night or when my entire party isn't fully here yet. I'd recommend coming early in the evening on a friday or saturday to avoid a wait and parking can be tight so either uber or carpool. read more

Great experience at dinner with friends! I hadn't been in almost two years and I must say I'm glad I tried it again. I think it all depends on what you order! My Chicken Parmigiana was delicious and portion was great !!! It's not in the best part of Oxnard but some people will say there's no good part of Oxnard ! It's just not as updated or modern as The Collection. Oxnard has awesome places and this place is one!!! Don't listen to the Oxnard nay sayers ... visit and try this place. I proclaim myself as an Oxnard Ambassador ;) Yes, it doesn't have amazing views but I loved the service and the food hit the spot. We spilt our bill 4ways even though we all got different dishes /at diff prices to make it easy lol ! We should have Zelle'd ! The point is .. the server was a sweetheart and didn't make a huge deal! I came here really excited to try the food, but I was pretty let down by the overall experience. I ordered the chicken Alfredo, and it had so much butter in it that it felt really heavy. Later that night I even had a stomachache, which I think came from how greasy it was. The chicken didn't taste fresh or grilled it had more of a rubbery, chewy texture, almost like it had been microwaved instead of cooked on the spot. The cheesy garlic bread was another big disappointment. It didn't taste fresh at all and almost seemed spoiled. On top of that, it was burnt, and there were even bits of other food stuck to it from the oven. That made it feel really careless. I was also expecting fresh grated Parmesan to go with the pasta, but they only had pre-shredded cheese, like the kind you'd get from a fast-food pizza place. Overall, I left feeling disappointed. Maybe I had too high of expectations, but the food just wasn't prepared with the care or freshness. I don't think I'll b coming back :( read more

A true experience in this family owned business. Based in an old garage with so much charm. Customer service was very helpful with their menu. Everything is homemade and a perfect sized serving. There were 7 of us. The fresh, warm bread served with butter on a cold night was a nice surprise. Hubby ordered the lasagna, hearty and full of flavor; served hot and freshly made. Cousin ordered a plate of spaghetti with meatballs, bigger plate than expected; every fork full was so delicious. Brother in law ordered sausages, so savory. Others ordered the calzone with cheese and mushrooms huge portion. I ordered the ravioli, I would definitely order it again when in town. Homemade cheesecake was so good, almost custard like. Visited this place for the first time with my family, and was excited to try it as we saw it was voted as the best classic eatery in Ventura County this year. We asked our server what was popular here but we didn't receive a recommendation. Overall, the food is generic. We got their cheesy bread and meatballs as appetizers. The meatballs along with their sauce were flavorful and not overly salted, which was a plus. The cheesy bread was just their complimentary bread with cheese and garlic added to it and I honestly believe that their complimentary bread with butter was the better choice. We also got the eggplant parmesan, chicken parmesan, fettuccine alfredo, and the mixed greens salad. In my opinion the mixed greens salad combination was questionable but wasn't inedible. I simply wasn't a fan of the chicken in their dishes. It tasted inauthentic and like plastic, even the one added into the alfredo. The alfredo itself wasn't wowing me and there was a huge sauce to pasta ratio. However if I had to recommend a dish, the eggplant parmesan was better over the chicken parmesan. read more

I heard such great things about this place, so was excited to try it. This is in the heart of Oxnard so a bit out of our way to get there (not right off a freeway). However, that was not gonna stop us from going. Upon arrival we were seated right away. However, the service was subpar and the food was just so so. We won't be returning. Arrived around 5 pm. The food at this establishment is delicious! It is a restaurant that my wife and I frequent, but the experince we had this past weekend with a certain waitress was unbelievable. I was shocked because I had never experienced this at Dominick's before. I didn't get her name, but she had an attitude the entire time as if she didn't want to be there. She never once checked in to ask if we wanted refills or anything else, and dropped off to-go containers 15 minutes into our dinner. I am not going to let this bad dining experince deter us from going back again, but I will definitely make sure that we don't get the same rude waitress, that's for sure. There are 2 things I come here for: the bread and the freakin MUDD PIE. I know the pic says otherwise but those are my sister's plates... I just use my bread to get some sauce! I don't think the food here is amazing but it's good, consistent. I was raised by a Sicilian woman who cooked everything from scratch so maybe it's unfair for me to judge. But the service and homely feel here is like no other. It's been around forever and it makes so many people happy. Came here with my son today. I have been coming here for years. I want to say since the 90's with family, cousins and friends. They make a really good Meat Lasagna, Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and a really good pizza. Great service Great atmosphere. Friendly staff that's very attentive. Parking can be kind of tight during busy hours but this place has been here since 1949. If you are in the area and craving Italian this is the spot. read more

First time here, very busy, waited about a half hour to be seated, we enjoyed a glass of wine over at the bar while waiting, bartender was a nice guy! When we were seated we ordered lemon drop martinis they were yummy but weak. Tasted more like spiked lemonade. The side Caesar salad we shared was truly disappointing for an "authentic" Italian restaurant-did not taste like a true Caesar dressing lacking serious flavors like garlic and anchovy... never offered fresh ground pepper, how is that even possible? After having worked for 4 different Italian restaurants and married to an Italian... we were a bit miffed by that. The Eggplant Parmesan and lasagna were both amazing! So the 3 stars are for the mediocre service! We told the gal this was our first time her, she shared she's been working there 10 years... probably shouldn't have shared that because she seriously lacked when it came to taking care of her customers :o/ Never really checked on us, it was always as she was passing by in a hurry that we'd get her attention. Never stopped to ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. I left my martini glass on the edge of the table (a sign to maybe get another?) she swiped it and ran off without asking if I wanted another. And I did. Eventually when dropping our food off I asked if I could get another. Also never asked if we would like Parmesan-every Italian restaurant I know of offers fresh grated (they had jars of the powdered kind on the table but ours was empty) I had to kind of wave at her to get her attention and ask for it. Just the whole experience was a turnoff. Needing a box and the check we had to get her attention... she just seemed like she didn't really care or wanted to be there. I'm not recommending Dominick's, and for the prices? And service? There's better options in the Ventura/Oxnard area. read more

Idk why I haven't left a review here yet! But in light of #thankyouthursday it's a must! I've been here multiple times and have brought different people every time without any disappointments. I don't remember what I ordered here since I took this months ago but I know I tried to finish my pasta and could not cause it was so filling but I sure did finish it the next day it was so good! My only complaint here is that it gets pretty warm in here while eating ash that hot pasta lol. read more
