    Tomahawk Steak
    Alex C.

I don't know what happened to my review. Perhaps mentioning staff by name for providing good service or maybe pointing out great food and drinks. I highly recommend the Tomahawk steak, bread pudding and apple turnover with vanilla ice cream a la mode. It's been a while since I've eaten there but all were memorable. I had taken some photos of the speakeasy bar in the basement. It's has a really cool ambiance and very friendly service. I'm just sad that my previous review was somehow removed. I give the 1901 five stars for flavor, fun, food quality and fresh innovative menu options. I'm hoping that this review with stay!

1901 - you outdid yourself. I visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday with a group of 7 women. Each of us ordered something different and we all loved our meal. The prices l, the atmosphere, our waitress Vicky (outstanding) took care of us and we never had to wait. Also, THE BEST BREAD PUDDING I've ever had other than my moms We cannot wait to return - THANK YOU!

1901 is a very nice spot in Oxnard, yes in Oxnard. The restaurant has a very nice space for outside dining complete with a nice water wall for relaxation. I ordered the Spaghetti which was very rich and was quite tasty. It did not refrigerate well though. There were two younger kiddos with us and they were served first and enjoyed their dinners and some tasty French fry's. Service was excellent and prompt. After dinner we enjoyed a nice concert in the bar preformed by "Ticket to Ride". They are Beatles impersonators and were excellent. If you are ever in that neck of the world, you would probably enjoy your visit.

    Seafood linguine

We're coming back! The best seafood linguine I've ever had; the clams, mussels salmon and scallops were oh my goodness great. I can't eat shrimp and the chef was able to pass them along to my dinner mates. Had mussels with bread-yum. Very nice of the waiter to keep the bread basket full. Yummy drinks. Both of my mates had the sea bass. I had enough linguine for a couple meals. The space was tight; old Victorian house. Despite moving to another chair my mate was still climbed over by the staff getting to the bread and dessert station. I watched as a hungry waiter sliced the bread and ate a piece. We skipped dessert and went for McConnell ice cream.

    Gnocchi & Lasagna

My friend and I were in search of Italian food and found this to be just the spot. They were booked in the restaurante section however, were able to seat us right away in the speakeasy. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating to us despite us not having a reservation. Despite being in the speakeasy we were still able to order from the restaurant menu. We ordered the lasagna & gnocchi which were both delicious! We ended our dinner with an order of the Tiramisu. The tiramisu was a great portion and definitely shareable for two.

Last night (Friday, March 3rd) my good friend & I decided to try this place out. Formerly La Dolce Vita (the Sweet Life), they transitioned to The 1901 a year & a half ago. I made a reservation for 6 PM, but we arrive a little earlier (20 mins). I arrived first, but was seated right away in the second room on the main floor, right next to the wine holder (it's literally a window paned, iron wine holder). It's actually really cool & interesting. Our server was Samuel, who was so knowledgeable & thorough in explaining the menu, wines & specials. We ordered... Calamari Mushroom Champagne Soup Pesto Penne & Duck Salmon Piccata w/Linguine & Veggies Tiramisu The calamari was light & crisp. It just needed a tiny bit more salt & it was perfect! I had a spoon full of the mushroom soup... it was divine! I feel so inspired by it that I will make a plant-based version for myself. The salmon was perfectly cooked, as was the vegetables & pasta. The tiramisu was huge! It's definitely enough for 2-3 people, maybe even a 4th. I happily took home leftovers. My hubby enjoyed the 2/3rds of the tiramisu left. I will be taking my hubby here, where I'm sure he will order a steak or pork chops. The ambiance was lovely, the service was top notch & it's so close yo home because it's right in the middle of Oxnard. It's funny because it doesn't feel like we are in Oxnard while dining here, but we are & it's in Oxnards Heritage Square. The 1901 is a great place to celebrate special occasions or just if you want something off the beaten path... a beautiful surprise!

When I first arrived, I was a bit confused. Let me explain: the downstairs area is a beautiful speakeasy, and somehow we ended up there initially, even though we had reservations for the restaurant upstairs. We only realized this after asking the bartender. It turns out you actually pass through the speakeasy to reach the restaurant. Once we made it upstairs, we were impressed--the restaurant was spotless, and the staff were fantastic. The food we ordered was phenomenal! From the duck to the lasagna, everything was absolutely delicious, and the portions were generous enough to have leftovers for the next day's dinner. I highly recommend this place! If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely be back!

The lamb and the best l've ever had
    Marti M.

Just recently discovered this place and WOWZERS! From the moment we walked in... excellent hospitality. Vickie was our waitress and she was GREAT! We ordered the porterhouse steak and the rack of lamb. Best dinner of the year. It was all cooked to perfection and pair with a great glass of wine. After dinner we walked downstairs to their speakeasy bar were we enjoyed some really nice libations and their live music around their fireplace. Definitely my new favorite spot. Worth the $$$

    What is the dress code?

There isn't really a dress code. Dress nice but casual. If you're going for a special occasion, dress to please yourself.

    Is it 21+?

No, it has a Restaurant and a Bar. Under 21 you would not be able to sit on the Bar tho. There's other seats around.

Does 1901 have a happy hour?

No unfortunately we do not have a happy hour but we hope you come and see us still!

And the view of the pizza oven! The little burnt marks & bubbling crust reminds me of pizza in Italy and France. Sorry Italy -- but France make the best pizza! They make the best everything when it comes to food. But I regress... haha Settebello's is the closest I can get to the Italy & France pizzas! NY is different and of course the best in the US -- but for west coast pizza, Settebellos is my FAV!!! Wish there was one in Westlake Village!! Not only did it take a long time for anyone to even take our order, but they also forgot our waters. It took about 20 minutes before we received anything. We ordered drinks and two appetizers. One appetizer arrived after about 20 minutes, but our drinks didn't arrive until approximately 25 minutes after we ordered. While we waited, we observed several waiters standing around talking instead of helping customers. We also watched two other tables ask multiple times for their checks before finally receiving them. The staff didn't appear busy or overwhelmed, which made the delays even more frustrating. To make matters worse, several tables that were seated after us received their food before we did. After waiting a total of 40 minutes without receiving our second appetizer or even being offered drink refills, we had enough. We asked the busser for our check and requested to cancel the remaining appetizer because we were extremely frustrated at that point. Instead of a manager or supervisor coming to speak with us, the busser returned to tell us that we couldn't cancel the appetizer because it had already been prepared. We paid, took the meatballs to go, and left disappointed. Only then did our server come over and say, "Sorry, we got stacked up." No manager or person in charge ever came to apologize or address the situation. The person who appeared to be the manager simply dropped off our boxed food and walked away without saying a word. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. I've dined here multiple times before and have always enjoyed both the food and the service, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Unfortunately, I will no longer support this business and will make sure to warn my family, friends, and colleagues to save their money and support businesses that value their customers and hire competent, attentive staff.

I had the beef stew as they were out of chicken - it was early enough that being completely out of chicken was surprising, but the beef stew itself was pretty good, with the meat soft as if it were simmered and cooked for a long time. The flavor was also tasty and satisfying. The vegetables I thought were quite a bit undercooked, which meant they were tough to eat. It was almost like they were quickly blanched, but not actually cooked. I'd rather have undercooked vegetables than soggy/soft overcooked ones, but this wasn't just slightly undercooked to me - it was off by quite a lot. The bread was also disappointing in that it wasn't fresh - it was stale, which you never like to see because bread is inexpensive enough that you would hope they wouldn't service anything from a previous day to their guests. Service was responsive and friendly, and the wait for food wasn't long. The place itself was quite dated and I guess you could say "homey" and casual, but it seemed like with a little more effort it could strike a better balance between traditional/homey yet still appear like some effort was taken to make it a nice environment to eat. I didn't dislike the experience (or the food), I just feel it could all be improved with more attention to detail and the commitment not to serve something like stale bread, because it leads off the meal/dining experience and when you start off with something like that, it isn't great.
