    Tomahawk Steak
    Alex C.

I don't know what happened to my review. Perhaps mentioning staff by name for providing good service or maybe pointing out great food and drinks. I highly recommend the Tomahawk steak, bread pudding and apple turnover with vanilla ice cream a la mode. It's been a while since I've eaten there but all were memorable. I had taken some photos of the speakeasy bar in the basement. It's has a really cool ambiance and very friendly service. I'm just sad that my previous review was somehow removed. I give the 1901 five stars for flavor, fun, food quality and fresh innovative menu options. I'm hoping that this review with stay!

1901 - you outdid yourself. I visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday with a group of 7 women. Each of us ordered something different and we all loved our meal. The prices l, the atmosphere, our waitress Vicky (outstanding) took care of us and we never had to wait. Also, THE BEST BREAD PUDDING I've ever had other than my moms We cannot wait to return - THANK YOU!

1901 is a very nice spot in Oxnard, yes in Oxnard. The restaurant has a very nice space for outside dining complete with a nice water wall for relaxation. I ordered the Spaghetti which was very rich and was quite tasty. It did not refrigerate well though. There were two younger kiddos with us and they were served first and enjoyed their dinners and some tasty French fry's. Service was excellent and prompt. After dinner we enjoyed a nice concert in the bar preformed by "Ticket to Ride". They are Beatles impersonators and were excellent. If you are ever in that neck of the world, you would probably enjoy your visit.

    Seafood linguine

We're coming back! The best seafood linguine I've ever had; the clams, mussels salmon and scallops were oh my goodness great. I can't eat shrimp and the chef was able to pass them along to my dinner mates. Had mussels with bread-yum. Very nice of the waiter to keep the bread basket full. Yummy drinks. Both of my mates had the sea bass. I had enough linguine for a couple meals. The space was tight; old Victorian house. Despite moving to another chair my mate was still climbed over by the staff getting to the bread and dessert station. I watched as a hungry waiter sliced the bread and ate a piece. We skipped dessert and went for McConnell ice cream.

    Gnocchi & Lasagna

My friend and I were in search of Italian food and found this to be just the spot. They were booked in the restaurante section however, were able to seat us right away in the speakeasy. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating to us despite us not having a reservation. Despite being in the speakeasy we were still able to order from the restaurant menu. We ordered the lasagna & gnocchi which were both delicious! We ended our dinner with an order of the Tiramisu. The tiramisu was a great portion and definitely shareable for two.

Last night (Friday, March 3rd) my good friend & I decided to try this place out. Formerly La Dolce Vita (the Sweet Life), they transitioned to The 1901 a year & a half ago. I made a reservation for 6 PM, but we arrive a little earlier (20 mins). I arrived first, but was seated right away in the second room on the main floor, right next to the wine holder (it's literally a window paned, iron wine holder). It's actually really cool & interesting. Our server was Samuel, who was so knowledgeable & thorough in explaining the menu, wines & specials. We ordered... Calamari Mushroom Champagne Soup Pesto Penne & Duck Salmon Piccata w/Linguine & Veggies Tiramisu The calamari was light & crisp. It just needed a tiny bit more salt & it was perfect! I had a spoon full of the mushroom soup... it was divine! I feel so inspired by it that I will make a plant-based version for myself. The salmon was perfectly cooked, as was the vegetables & pasta. The tiramisu was huge! It's definitely enough for 2-3 people, maybe even a 4th. I happily took home leftovers. My hubby enjoyed the 2/3rds of the tiramisu left. I will be taking my hubby here, where I'm sure he will order a steak or pork chops. The ambiance was lovely, the service was top notch & it's so close yo home because it's right in the middle of Oxnard. It's funny because it doesn't feel like we are in Oxnard while dining here, but we are & it's in Oxnards Heritage Square. The 1901 is a great place to celebrate special occasions or just if you want something off the beaten path... a beautiful surprise!

When I first arrived, I was a bit confused. Let me explain: the downstairs area is a beautiful speakeasy, and somehow we ended up there initially, even though we had reservations for the restaurant upstairs. We only realized this after asking the bartender. It turns out you actually pass through the speakeasy to reach the restaurant. Once we made it upstairs, we were impressed--the restaurant was spotless, and the staff were fantastic. The food we ordered was phenomenal! From the duck to the lasagna, everything was absolutely delicious, and the portions were generous enough to have leftovers for the next day's dinner. I highly recommend this place! If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely be back!

The lamb and the best l've ever had
    Marti M.

Just recently discovered this place and WOWZERS! From the moment we walked in... excellent hospitality. Vickie was our waitress and she was GREAT! We ordered the porterhouse steak and the rack of lamb. Best dinner of the year. It was all cooked to perfection and pair with a great glass of wine. After dinner we walked downstairs to their speakeasy bar were we enjoyed some really nice libations and their live music around their fireplace. Definitely my new favorite spot. Worth the $$$

Once arrived we were greeted right away by the owner and staff and was seated right away. Luckily the restaurant wasn't that busy yet. Right of the bat service from Samantha P was fantastic and very friendly. As for the food we ordered 3 different appetizer and 2 main seafood dishes to share. Appetizers: Aquachiles- They were freshly made that morning and the was fantastic. Clam Strips- They were fresh and nicely battered. Portions were on the small side. Delaware Bay Oysters- Fantastic and so fresh. Very clean tasting. For the main dishes we ordered: 5oz Blackened Red Snapper- The snapper was grilled perfect. It was flaky and moist. 4pc Alaskan Cod Fish & Chips- I ordered it half Beer Battered and half Panko Fried. The panko came out dry but had a better crispness to it. The beer battered is the way to go. The fish was moist and flaky and the batter was nice and light as well. Plus the chips ( Fries) where amazing. I believe they were double fried. For over 25 years, this spot has remained a "go to" in the community, and we love seeing these old school treasures continue to thrive. From the moment you walk in, you get those nostalgic, old-school vibes. Loved all of the decor and pictures of fisherman throughout the place. The service here was awesome. Super friendly and welcoming, and the gentleman at the register gave great recommendations. He knew the menu well and was able to help me out with some suggestions. Honestly, the menu is so extensive it was hard to choose, but here's what I went with: Fish & Chips (2 piece plate): 5/5. The batter was light yet perfectly crispy, not overly heavy, and the fish itself was fresh, flaky, and high quality. Paired with a solid tartar sauce, this is a must order dish. The French fries were classic and I loved their coleslaw. Grilled Thresher Shark Plate: 4.5/5. This one was a standout for me given how hard it is to find shark on menus nowadays. I actually grew up eating shark, so this felt super nostalgic. The staff highly recommended it, and I'm so glad I listened. The grilled shark was mild, tender, and full of flavor thanks to their delicious balsamic glaze marinade. If you've ever been curious about trying shark, this is the place to do it. I'll be back again for this soon. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying and the best part? It doesn't break the bank. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous. Definitely check them out if you haven't already, a great old school restaurant in Oxnard.

The blueberry margarita and limoncello beverages were my two drinks of choice, recommended by our lovely waitress Bethany. I liked my drinks a little sweet and girly and both fit that vibe. Shared some oysters with the wife and some crab cakes, they all hit the spot and were solid appetizers to start with. I also got a cup of clam chowder before my main meal. One of the better clam chowders I've had to date. Nice and creamy, fresh and satisfying, it almost had me wishing I ordered a bowl instead. My wife tried mine too and had to order her own right after. The lobster roll with some fries was my main course. So good! The bun was lightly toasted and crisp and the lobster was just sweet and buttery without being too heavy. Very satisfying. And then finally I had to wrap things up with a dessert. Their strawberry basque cheesecake was the easy choice for me. This is the kind of dessert where everyone says they're just going to have a bite and suddenly half of it is gone. I'm glad I split it because I could have easily indulged and eaten the whole thing on my own if the temptation was there. And again, service was excellent. It wasn't particularly busy when we were there. The drinks came in a little slow because there was only one bartender and the bar was busy but otherwise, our waitress checked in on us a healthy amount of times to see if we needed anything or to refill our waters. We sat outside so nice ambiance too. We went to three restaurants while visiting this area and this was the only one I really felt compelled to write a review for. Certainly recommend it.
