Kept getting recommendations for Daylight & Moon for their toast options, and gotta say - was not that impressed with them. Love salmon, so decided to try their Smoked Salmon Toast. The Salmon itself tasted fresh, and I love that they added capers to it. But the bread choice was severely lacking. Literally just a small piece of bread pulled straight out of the bag. If I'm going to pay $15 to get toast, I want it on a nice, thicky piece of crusty bread ... Not a thin, minimal crunchy piece. Drinks were average. Super cute place! Walking in, it feels super cozy and the employees are so nice and welcoming. They have couches and tables to sit at, plus some outdoor seating if that's more your thing. It's also pretty quiet with low music, which I love because it makes it easy to talk. Honestly, it's the perfect spot to work, study, or just relax with a coffee. They do have a pretty limited menu, but I'm sure they could make most coffee drinks if you ask. For food, they offer pastries, empanadas, and a variety of toast options. Of course I had to try the toast! I ordered the club toast and it was amazing -- the chipotle sauce they add on top is sooo good. My friend got the avocado toast, which was also delicious, and the chili oil complemented it perfectly. I also picked two pastries to try: the guava and cheese danish and the Nutella danish. The guava one was definitely 10/10 -- so flavorful and just beyond tasty. The Nutella one was good too, but it was a little too chocolatey for my personal taste (I know some people would love that though!). I genuinely enjoy their matcha and gluten free avocado toast. As a girl with celiac, I always feel like they are as careful as possible with keeping my food away from gluten. I love that they use ceremonial matcha and it's much stronger than most matcha in the 805. The owner here I think also owns Palm and Boy which I freakin love. I honestly wish that they had dairy free soft top, because that would be the cherry on top for me. My only gripe would be that it's quite expensive for a 12oz/16oz drink, but I can understand the competitive pricing in this area. Overall a completely solid option and I hope to see them get some more business! read more

I've been wanting to try the coffee here for quite some time now, and I finally made it in. Cute, quaint, modern style coffee shop with plenty of seating. There is street parking in the front, and in the back of the shop there is a parking lot with plenty of parking. We were greeted by the barista, and she began to share her favs, both myself and my husband opted for their speciality lattes, DAYLIGHT and MOON! They were both very delicious. GETTING HERE: (I'm trying to remember the name of the Cafe that lived here before. But, I am at a loss, no matter #obvi.) It's located on Loma Vista Road quite near to CMH, Community Memorial Hospital. There's parking (sometimes limited) in the back area and you will find it next to the Quest labs. REVIEW: I have found my new spot for anything and everything when I'm in Ventura, near CMH. I may even prioritize another trip here when I am not near! It's that good! So, on to the review! The vibe is open and clean, white, with minimal decor, which I LOOOVE. There is open seating, a nice big couch, and tables in the middle with a great open view. Service has been friendly, refreshing, genuine the few times I have been here. I have been short on time the last visits and only got a pastry, bagel, empanada and they were all nothing short of fresh and great tasting! My next visit will include the Cucumber and Dill toast. Cute little coffee shop right next door to Quest. Parking lot is shared with Quest but there's a lot of street parking and a larger lot not too far off on Dos Camino itself. Really delicious sounding offerings of breakfast toast-- I unfortunately didn't get one. I did get the latte that is the namesake -- Daylight - espresso, caramel, sea salt and milk. I ordered it decaf and usually decaf drinks suck -- the espresso is bitter and places just don't put so much effort into it for some reason. But this one was treated with all the respect of its caffeinated counterparts. Well balanced, creamy, perfect amount of sugar and yes, that hint of sea salt. I really enjoyed my two visits here recently. My experience is solely based on customer service and latte's. I ordered their signature drinks, Daylight, and Moon - iced. Daylight was so good I came back the next day to try Moon, which happens to be one of Donni's favorite drinks. Donni, who helped me both times, was very patient and kind when I was customizing my latte's. Normally, I find 'avocado toast' to be overpriced and overrated, however, their menu of "Cookie Butter Toast" sounds delicious! I saw a few of them ordered, and they do not skimp on toppings. Looks great. I read review prior to coming - someone mentioned their guava cheese danish being amazing, I'd love to try it as I am a huge fan of Porto's guava cheese pastries... Glad to see an option offered locally. An interesting thing I found out when I joined their rewards program (just sign up via phone number when you pay) that they have a sister company; Palm & Boy Coffee and Acai Bowls which is located downtow Ventura, nestled inside Antique Alley. While my review is not based on that sister store - I prefer Daylight & Moon Cafe when I am in mid-town over the sister site. Overall, the coffee is top tier - great quality, I prefer my drinks to be less sweetned and by adding a shot of espresso (quad-shot) brings out such a beautifully robust and rich coffee taste that I love. My ob gyn is by this cafe so I went many times to this restaurant during my pregnancy and after. It's amazing! I recommend all of the empanadas (fresh that day!), the chai tea, and the toasts. I finally tried the toasts most recently because we usually only got empanadas. I had the smoked salmon toast, and my husband had the cookie butter toast. I noticed other patrons liked the coffee. The service is great. They make the food and drinks quickly and the people working are friendly. The cafe is also cute and nice to hang out in. We were trying a new cafe to read, relax and hangout and it was a great spot. We got 3 types toast- 1 salmon, 1 avocado and 1 brunch toast. It was just like the avocado toast and I look back and should have asked to get the same price for avocado toast since it was out. Chilli oil was perfect on it. Avocado toast was my fave! Can never go wrong with avocado, arugula at all! Balsamic was a nice touch with the tomato& the chili flakes are always a hit with avocado toast and arugula. Salmon toast was very good! - again probably could have removed the balsamic glaze and added red onion that would been like a lox and bagel type sandwich. The interior and energy gives off midtown feels but further east with less crowds. The dedicated parking spots in the small lot make for a convenient stop and menus outside to scope before entering speeds up if you're in a hurry. First time in. I have been to their sister location, Palm and Boy, so I was on a mission to visit here too. This cafe is much bigger than their sister location with more seating inside. Similar great drink menu and more expansive food menu. I went with a seasonal drink, cherry cold brew, and the brunch toast. Food was good, I would order again. Drink was definitely bringing the cherry taste! I brought my laptop with me and was able to sit comfortably and use their guest WiFi with no issues. Breakfast, coffee, and work done...beautiful Friday morning combination. Staff was very friendly offering the WiFi, cleaned up plates as people left, and on it when people needed the bathroom key. Parents, there's a changing table in the bathroom!! Huge win in my book, coffee & a place to safely change your baby. In the bakery case they had empanadas, cookies, and donuts. I finally got the chance to try this coffee shop for a mid-day pick me up before work. The coffee shop is on a main street so parking appears to be a bit tricky if not familiar with the area. Thankfully, I found parking right in front of the shop and also saw there's a lot behind the shop. I ordered a seasonal special strawberry matcha and it was okay. I've been spoiled with some really good matcha at other local coffee shops that have set my standard pretty high. I barely got any strawberry flavor and it kinda reminded me of sad cereal milk with too much artificial flavor. I saw they use handlebar beans so I'll likely try a coffee next time. The shop was immaculately clean! Service was fine. They weren't busy when I showed up and did have some patrons hanging out at the shop. I've been twice now and will definitely keep going back! So far the only drink I've had is the Moon (got it both times because it's so good) and I've also had a sip of the Daylight when my sister got it. I enjoy the Moon drink because it is simple and so tasty. I do prefer my espresso drinks to be on the sweet side but not too artificial/syrup-y sweet and the Moon is perfect for this! It's just a hint of sweetness with that condensed milk but you can still taste and enjoy the espresso. The Daylight is definitely sweeter with the caramel in it but still good if you enjoy a sweeter drink! As for food, I have so far just tried the potato & cheese empanada. It was just ok in my opinion, not super flavorful but still a nice simple savory breakfast option. The workers have been very kind both times I've gone, no complaints there! Nothing worse than having a 3 star experience at a place you know is perfectly capable of 5 stars. I caught Daylight & Moon Cafe on a super busy Sunday and regretfully the service suffered as a result of their busy and unique event day. I'd definitely like to come back and give them another try in the future as I had some good bites and matcha, just wasn't the best day for a first impression or experience. When I walked inside I should have caught the vibes. The place was already very busy with no available seats, and I saw that they were starting to set up a DJ booth and some racks to put clothing out. Today was clearly an event day and it was nice to see that there was a big turnout of customers coming to support. Despite this, I didn't overthink it as this is a coffee shop so generally speaking - I've never really had to wait to grab a drink and a snack more than 10 to 15 minutes, even on a really busy day anywhere. My biggest reason for giving three stars is I ended up waiting close to 40 minutes for a Matcha, a toast, and a premade pastry. My receipt shows I placed my order at 10:52 AM and I didn't walk out to my car until 11:30 AM. This was definitely the longest wait I've ever had at a coffee shop. I could've actually dined at a sit down restaurant for breakfast and been in and out in the same amount of time, if not actually quicker. Also if I were to ever willingly wait that long, I would want the food and drinks to be some of the best I've ever had or a 5/5 but again, I think due to the rush and high demand, overall their quality did suffer a little bit. I ended up ordering one of their Sunday specials, which was an iced Matcha latte with Ube foam. This was a really good drink, the flavors were nice, and the presentation was cute with the contrast of green and purple. Flavor 4/5. Unfortunately, my drink did come out a good 10+ minutes before the rest of my order and I would've loved to have everything together so that my matcha would've gotten less water down. For food, I went with one of their more simple toast, which was cookie butter toast with some fresh fruit. I also grabbed a guava cheese pastry, which looked amazing. After 40 minutes, these two dishes were ready for me to take to go. The food had hits and misses. Unfortunately, because of the rush, my guava cheese pastry could've been cooked a little more attentively. I did notice one of the staff while warming up my guava cheese pastry accidentally dropped it on the floor. He thankfully threw it out and got me the last one, but in his haste, I could tell it didn't go in the warmer as long as the first one did and when I got it, it was basically a pretty cold pastry, despite being noted to be a warmed up pastry. I was sad as only the outer corners of the pastry were warm and everything in the middle was pretty cold. Either way, the guava and cheese was a perfect flavor profile and had it been cooked to their usual standard, it would have been amazing. I will definitely come back to try this pastry again because it was good. Right up my alley. The cookie butter toast with banana and strawberry was also good, in hindsight I wish it had a little drizzle of honey or Nutella. I will say that a majority of their toast look really good and I definitely be open to trying their brie/turkey toast next time or the avocado toast seem to get rave reviews. The experience was uncomfortable as I did notice there were a lot of frustrated customers. In the timeframe I was there one couple got pretty annoyed and went up to the register to complain about their wait for their coffees, they came after me, but I am sure they waited about 20+ minutes. I also made a friend who was standing next to me and had waited almost as long as I had, and she complained as well. We both agreed that we were eager to support this local business but had regrets about coming today. We were understanding and seemed to have the same vibe, but we're bummed out that it had all taken so long. It wasn't the kind of atmosphere that you wanted to stay in for too long. Ending on a positive note, the staff all seemed very nice. It was clearly an unexpected busy morning and I did feel like everyone was doing their best. It just was what it was. I also appreciated that as I stood closer to the register at the end, I did finally hear the cashier telling customers that it would be a 20 minute wait. While I didn't get that kind of warning, I am glad that they were able to eventually assess that the wait times were too long and at least gave the customers a heads up in advance before they placed their order. Overall, it was not a very good experience, but I can see the potential. The coffee shop itself is very cute and I think they have a great menu. My Matcha was good and the guava pastry is something I would come back for. I am glad to see that a lot of people like this spot and I'm hopeful for a better experience in the future when I can make it back in. read more

The reaction of the employee smirking after she as told someone fell because the mat wasn't flat on the floor was not a reaction I was expecting.
