I first came to Sips at a Yelp evening event, but was curious enough to return to feel out their daytime vibe, and to try their coffee menu. I came on Sun. afternoon, and it was super quiet and chill. I got their unique Shakerato- a shaken espresso served in a sleek martini glass. The shakerato was so good and elegantly presented. Pastries are from Cafe Ficelle. The lead barista is of the school that takes pride in crafting each drink and not letting the machine automatically do all the work. The brother sister owners bring their culinary wine and beer experience to their cafe, but they invested into learning about coffee. Sips uses Beacon roasters who actually train cafe baristas on how to produce the best shots using their beans, so it's a true coffee collaboration. The cafe vibe is bright, airy and cozy. The owner was there and we chatted for awhile- he said they are ultimately happy to be a neighborhood local cafe- they're not trying to be Starbucks and be super high volume. They want to serve the East end of Ventura, which does not have a lot of mom/pop style cafes and restaurants. read more

SIPS has become one of my favorite spots to come too. Both owners, Katie and Brooks, are super sweet and I love their selection. Brooks even has my husband's favorite cider and my favorite beer on tap. It's a nice place to go do work in the morning to enjoy a nice cup of coffee or matcha with some Cafe Ficelle pastries and then stick around to enjoy some beer or wine and some of their snacks. They offer both inside seating and outdoor. Went in the AM one time with my dog and it was the perfect weather to sit outside and enjoy my matcha. We found them a month ago and have managed to come here at least twice a week since then. Love their coffee. Really enjoy starting my day with one of their matchas, but they also make great shakeratos. Full espresso bar with plenty of options. Great curated local beers and wine. Delicious paninis. We've been on a mission to try them all, and our clear favorite is their pastrami. Bread both soft and crispy with the perfect amount of pastrami and cheese. Also really enjoy their pizza panini. If you're a grilled cheese fan, theirs is fire. Love the vibe. Super laid back, like you're coming in to visit friends. They also host fun events. Been eyeing this place for a hot minute because I keep seeing it pop up on my feed whenever I'm looking for a new coffee place. Finally took the plunge a few weeks ago, and I regret that I didn't take the plunge sooner. The place is really cozy, the service is great, and the owners are so friendly. The atmosphere here is so convivial that I'd come here even before knowing about the drinks and the food. Now lets get to the drinks. They serve Beacon Coffee, which is one of the best coffee roasters in Ventura. The first time I was here I got a picture perfect (and taste perfect) cortado. However, ever since coming here, my guilty little pleasure has been their Shakerato with a little bit of half and half - which isn't available anywhere else in Ventura. They have a generous selection of both wines and beers, and I can personally attest that the beer selection is well-curated. Most coffee places don't really have good food. However, the paninis here are so tasty and well-priced. Gourmet quality for a neighborhood cafe value. Lastly, they have lots of little fun events that we are for sure going to go to more. The space is open, welcoming, and easy to hang in. With indoor and outdoor seating plus a big TV if youre catching a game! Drinks are the star here. I had an iced salted caramel latte and a vanilla caramel iced latte are both 10/10 (seriously so good!!), and seasonal drinks like the pumpkin patch latte are a hit too. Espresso runs until about 3pm, and after that it's all about the local beer taps, fridge gems, and a solid wine selection. Just a note they do serve alcohol in the AM too, mimosa anyone? Food-wise, the caprese panini (add the prosciutto!) was so delicious, I had to order another one to-go! Big shoutout Destiny for the friendly service and thoughtful touches (cute notes on the cups!). So, yes, I was here a few days ago for the first time and I'm back already. I had the mocha latte and pastrami panini! YUM!!! I just want to eat paninis all the time now. The crisp toastiness of the bread with that hot pastrami, melted cheese, and the pickle! Not all pickles are equal and they serve GREAT ones here! I came around 9ish in the morning and it was really quite. Seems like a good place to have a great bite and coffee while doing some work. No one seemed to mind my friend and I visiting and having a good time though. We left around noon because we didn't realize the time. So we had a great time here. I brought my partner in crime and we had a blast! The brother-sister duo behind SIPS, Brooks and Katie, are absolute gems, they are so warm and welcoming that it felt like we'd known them forever. Brooks is the mastermind behind the brews, and Katie knows her wine inside and out. We loved trying a variety of local beers and wines and learning about their selections. Snagged a few cans / collabs from local businesses like Beacon, Bright Spark, Rincon Brew and Balcom Cider. This is a great little gem! First of all big thank you to Brooks for making the first experience a great one! The setting is nice and wide open with seating outside and plenty of seats in side. Also don't forget they have a big TV to catch a football game. The espresso closes at 3pm so I'll definitely be back for some shots. The local taps are amazing! The wine selection is amazing, with great options for every taste, plus excellent ciders and beers. The live music was a huge highlight....original music that felt like a free concert and added so much energy to the afternoon. Just opened so I popped in for some coffee and food. Ambiance was very laid back with an unmistakable Ventura flair(maybe it was the surfing on the tv) staff was extremely friendly and the owner even pulled my espresso shots. I got a cortado and the caprese panini. Forgot to get a picture of the cortado before I drank it, but it was delicious, finally a nice coffee shop on this side of town close to my house. Panini came with a pickle spear and a bag of mrs Vicki's kettle chips(or side salad.) panini was delicious, you can tell they use good cheeses. SIPS is a new coffee shop / wine and beer bar just off of Johnson. Such a cool concept for a business! The owners are a brother and sister duo who are so kind and welcoming. Katie has been in the wine business forever and has a super intimate knowledge of all things wine. Brooks is the beer side of the operation with experience in local craft breweries. So they really know their stuff! I can't wait until the grand opening so we can see their full selection. I know it's going to be thoughtful, unique, and amazing. I visited the weekend of the soft opening and tried a couple coffees on the menu as well as some pastries (which are from Cafe Ficelle! If you know, you know.) They also have a bigger selection of food that I'll have to try on my next visit. I got a cortado and a shakerado (a must try). They came in fancy glasses which added to the fun experience. Both drinks were really good, came out quickly, and clearly made with love. The shop is clean, easy to get to, has plenty of seating inside and an outdoor patio, easy parking, and lots of outlets if you want to hang out for a while. The bathroom was also super clean which is always a plus! I am so excited to see this family-owned business succeed. No major taps (if you want a Modelo or Blue Moon, go elsewhere), all are local/regional beers. Wine is very intentionally selected, not corporate-pushed options.
