Absolutely delicious spot which sits off the beaten track. I am not sure I would go anywhere else in Ojai for brunch now! This cafe serves a range of brunch options and it also sells books! That is always a green flag to me. The brunch options are small but delicious, with every care taken to make them flavourful. I had a special (asparagus toast with aioli and a fried egg) and my partner had the turkey focaccia sandwich. Both had us eating slowly to take in every bite. The space is delightful too. There is a patio outside which is lively with groups of local people eating and chatting, then there is a garden out the back which is quieter and beautifully full of foliage to sit in on a sunny day. The inside is pretty too, with tiled tables, though there isn't loads of space so it may be a squeeze if it ever rains. I can't wait to go back to this spot. read more

I came here by recommendation from Alex the owner of Sunoven. I requested a coffee shop that would be open past 2pm and she recommended Three Birds. The ambiance is both cafe and book store which I had not seen that concept before. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and turkey sandwich. The bread on the sandwich was toasted nicely and tasted like it was made in house. Additionally, I am not a big mustard gal however the mustard on this sandwich was the best mustard I have ever had. Loved the added touch of the pickled red onions. *pro tip* I didn't see any outlets to charge devices so if you decide to come here to work on electronic devices bring external chargers and/or make sure your lap top is charged. Overall, wonderful experience and I will be back! read more

OK, so I'm kinda new to Ojai but I love a great Cafe so Ive recently made the rounds regarding coffee shops and cafes in and around Ojai and hands down 3 Birds is at the top of the list. Just calling 3 Birds a coffee shop does it a disservice and gives Yelpers the wrong idea. The 3 Bird folks create more of a community where not only do they have great coffee, but a beautifully considered menu, a small but amazingly curated book store (easily perusable while waiting for your coffee concoction) and large outside area with picnic tables and a Xlarge chalk board for the kids or the kid in all of us. You're always greeted with a smile and a good word and they love making your coffee just the way you like it. Don't miss 3 Birds! read more

Three Birds is the BEST! Not only are all the espresso drinks fabulous, the food could not be more fresh or flavor-packed, and the staff are lovely. You can't go wrong, but the cashew toast, the little gems salad, and the turkey sandwich are three of our favs! The ambiance and outdoor space is a lovely spot to grab breakfast or lunch with someone or catch-up on work. Highly recommend! Not only is it one of our fav spots in town, it is also where we hosted our welcome drinks/snacks during our wedding weekend in mid-May for about 60 people. Charlotte and Max were so great to work with - they were super communicative, flexible and made the planning process so easy. Charlotte and team put together the most beautiful and delicious charcuterie/veg spread - our guests couldn't stay away! Service was great and everyone loved it. Many of our wedding guests went back 2+ times before they left Ojai because they enjoyed it so much. We recently moved out of state but it will be one of our first stops when we are back in mid-May. :) read more

This place is a gem. I visited two days in a row, while briefly in Ojai and I imagine this would be 'my spot' if I lived in the area. Excellent coffee. Tasty food. Wonderful service. Great atmosphere. It's a winner. Which I suppose to some would mean I should keep quiet so it stays that way (hehe), but it's too special not to share . See you next time, Three Birds! read more

Great atmosphere and staff is polite enough but service was sloooow. My wife ordered a spinach salad that was spinach, some cheese, candied walnuts, and 1/2 a hard boiled egg for $19. I just don't get who thinks is is ok to serve people this and get away with it. I had a breakfast sandwich that just fell apart in my hands. I understand this is a town full of tourists who want to broadcast their dietary restrictions and complicated drink orders as it increases their social wellness capital and perpetuates their orthorexic aura, but you need to streamline the ordering process. Each party took about 7 minutes to order, pub style, so you stand and watch as the person behind the register triple confirms every detail. I have truly not ever seen anything quite like it. Stuff is fine. Locals know this is a cursed location, but it seems like they're making it happen, just at a glacial pace. (Unrelated, but all these tourists are so poorly dressed: maxi dresses and running shoes, matching two pieces in flesh tones and espadrilles. Wild) read more

The best coffee shop in Ojai! We are here visiting for 6 weeks and this cute little spot opened up shortly after we got here & we are so thankful. The owners are super friendly and welcoming. They offer Locally roasted coffee (Bonito), matcha, chai, lattes, etc. All of their syrups are made in house. They offer sweet and savory organic, local, gluten free and vegan options (bone broth, savory toast, breakfast cakes, porridge, etc.). They have an amazing selection of books for children and adults, so this would be a great spot to pick up a gift. There is a ton of outdoor seating and an area for children to play. If you're a local, they have a sign up sheet for a book club (I wish I was staying!). They also plan to obtain a liquor license. The vibe is amazing and filled with love. I've tried the vanilla matcha with oat milk, vanilla latte and their golden mylk. All delicious and would order them again. Their golden mylk is homemade and they recommend adding a shot of espresso ... can't wait to try it! read more

I don't get the hype about this place besides location and cute patio tables. The food is mid and absolutely overpriced with not many options. The coffee is mid, and the matcha I ordered was ... mid. I ordered the green detox juice and it was 100% poured from bottle to cup, not fresh. Needless to say having to stand in line for 30 minutes because it's always packed doesn't add to the experience. Moreover, my guinea pig requires a temperature controlled environment and can't survive in that heat. We put in an order and asked the server whether we can be seated inside. Once a table was made available, we were told we can move inside. I liked the table we were given in the back. They had three bathrooms inside. My boyfriend was disturbed by the bleeding fish display. He thought it was gruesome. As a vegetarian, honestly, I thought the same. I ate every bite of my curry. The female servers we talked to were nice. But the guy who came to pick up our clean plates wasn't very considerate. He took my rice bowl and it wasn't even empty. Then he dropped something he had taken from our table loudly on the floor right next to us and didn't even apologize or say a thing after. I liked the potatoes and curry I ate. But I'm still suffering from the mosquito bites because I have very sensitive and irritable skin. Plus I thought the service could definitely have been more friendly and courteous.

Right off the main road, easy to find, and the family vibes are real. It's the kind of spot you want to linger in. If you're navigating dietary restrictions, this place is a quiet goldmine. Strong gluten free options, a genuinely vegan friendly menu, and plenty of vegetarian choices too... so everyone at the table actually gets to eat something they're excited about. That's rarer than it should be. The food? Solid. I went with the raw tacos, sopes, and huarache; all filling, all fairly priced for the area. The raw tacos especially surprised me... fresh, flavorful, and not in a "I wish this was a real taco" kind of way. These hold their own. Service was quick and most of the staff had a warm, genuine energy about them. The one small snag; the cashier seemed to be having a rough one. A little gruff, made me feel like my first visit was mildly inconvenient for them. It happens, we all have bad days, but first impressions do stick a little. Overall though, I'm absolutely coming back. There's more on that menu calling my name and an atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down for a bit. Came as three mini sandwiches. Enjoyable and repeatable. Chicken tortilla soup: wait, what? It's not on the menu but pretty sure this is what my dining companion ordered. She said she enjoyed it but... I order an Arnold palmer which seemed straightforward. But when I asked for a refill later in the meal, the waiter told me they had to make some more. We went both mornings, and while the a la carte menu was tempting (I perked up when I saw the uni and egg dobladita), we stuck to the small but very good buffet. The space was lovely, in keeping with the rest of the beautiful hotel. It was El Roblar's casual daytime restaurant, with both indoor and outdoor seating and an easy, comfortable atmosphere. Table service was friendly, if mostly hands off. I don't usually eat breakfast, but I grazed the offerings while we were there. I really liked both the Greek and coconut yogurt, as well as the honey and fresh berries set up beside them. There were cured meats and cheese, bread and pastries, including two kinds of conchas and some excellent scones with jalapeño, cheddar, and corn. I enjoyed the fluffy, savory black pepper and Gruyère quiche. I also took advantage of the cut fruit, some high quality melon, fig, plum, and nectarine. I'd be curious to sit down for a fuller meal, but I was quite happy with our breakfasts at La Cocina. We enjoyed the food and ambiance, the gentle beginnings of idyllic Ojai days.

Three Birds is such a charming spot -- bright, cozy, and full of that easygoing Ojai energy. The interior has a cute, relaxed vibe, and there's plenty of outdoor seating if you want to enjoy a slow morning in the sun. We ordered the breakfast sandwich and the avocado toast, and both were excellent. The breakfast sandwich was delicious -- perfectly balanced with a pesto spread that added a unique, flavorful twist. I got a side of aioli, which was the perfect complement. The avocado toast was fresh and satisfying, and the hard-boiled eggs on top tied everything together nicely. The cappuccinos were also spot-on -- rich, smooth, and beautifully made. Service was friendly and warm, which made the experience even better. A perfect spot for a relaxing breakfast or coffee date in Ojai. read more

Farmer And The Cook

The Farmer and the Cook -- Fresh Finds Off the Main Road…read more I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect walking in for the first time, but The Farmer and the Cook won me over pretty quickly. It's bright, clean, and has this easy organic warmth to it... the kind of place that feels like it was put together by people who actually care. Whether you're vegan, gluten free, or just looking for something fresh and honest... this one's worth the stop.

Walking in feels like somebody hit play on a 1978 jukebox and never stopped in the best way possible. Between the down home atmosphere, the classic comfort food, and the steady soundtrack of 70s and 80s hits, I half expected to see my aunt serving meatloaf while debating disco vs. Fleetwood Mac. The service top notch! The vibe is pure small-town Americana. No fake trendy farmhouse aesthetic. No $22 avocado toast. Just good people, solid food, endless coffee refills, and music that makes you want to stay for "one more cup." The dessert seems to be made with soft serve using real vanilla bean as I noticed the speckles in the ice cream. The soft serve was creamy and not too sweet and the matcha topped on it was delicious. The matcha used seemed to be of good quality and didn't taste bitter nor dry. However, this was pretty overpriced for $15 for a small cup of soft serve with some matcha poured on top. I'm wondering if it's pricey because of the vanilla bean used in the soft serve. Regardless, I did enjoy this dessert and it's a good option for a dessert stop after a meal. They also have food here and I would come back to try the food. They have limited indoor seating and tables, but seem to have a decent amount of them outside.

I should've asked for an extra shot of espresso. My regular bagel was burned but the lox bagel was a disappointment. I know it was a Sunday and it can get busy but for 2 coffees and 2 bagels we spent over 40 mins just waiting and for the bagel to come out wrong. The girl at the counter lacked customer service as I was trying to get her attention to tell her our order was wrong but she never turned. Only after helping 2 other customers did she finally acknowledge me. We waited once again and that's where the lox bagel caught us off guard. My sister asked to clarify if that was indeed the lox bagel and was told yes, we said okay and went on our way. Almost an hour for coffee and bagels and spending almost $50 kinda hurt our experience here. I don't see myself coming back here.

We chose to sit outside and I specifically went inside to ask a server if that was okay. She brought us menus, but after that it seemed like we were forgotten. I looked inside several times and made eye contact with staff, but no one came to take our order. Eventually, another employee came over and took our order. A little later, the original server came outside and asked if anyone had taken our order yet. We told her that another staff member already had. It was a confusing situation, especially since there were several servers working at the time. The prices also felt a bit high for what was served. The omelets, in particular, seemed overpriced compared to similar breakfast spots. There were also a few issues with the food. My toast arrived with a normal piece of toasted bread on top, but underneath was a burnt slice, which felt odd and careless. The croissant was very good, the eggs were fine, but the hash browns were undercooked and still somewhat raw in the middle. Overall, the experience was okay, but between the service issues, inconsistent food quality, and higher-than-average prices, it didn't quite meet our expectations.
