I ordered a ham and cheese croissant served with a gherkin and everything was absolutely delicious. The croissant was perfectly flaky and buttery, the ham and cheese were flavorful, and the gherkin added the perfect tangy crunch. The Bloody Mary was well-balanced and refreshing but I wish it had celery. The atmosphere was charming, relaxed, and exactly what you'd hope for in Ojai. The staff was friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. I can't wait to come back and try more from the menu. Came here for breakfast on a Tuesday and wasn't overly impressed and don't agree with the 4.1 star rating. The woman taking orders at front must be new because she put in the wrong order and then, after we asked if the pastries could be warmed up and were told 'no', responded with 'oh okay, then nevermind', she still boxed up the pastry and charged us for it. We hope she took off the danish order we rejected (as she took back the pastry), but we didn't keep the receipt to see. If you're new, then repeat back an order to make sure you heard everything correctly. Also, why can't pastries be heated? So strange. We each ordered the congee and while the chili oil offers a nice bite, there is no flavor beyond chili oil. The chai oat milk latte was nice but that's the only thing. It's a super cute spot, has fresh flowers everywhere, a pool table, and a nice front and back bar. read more

We came here for dinner at a colleague of my wife's recommendation. We did not have reservations, but they still sat us quickly at one of their outside/sidewalk tables. The sidewalk tables are comfortable and the ambiance casual. Service was efficient and friendly. They have an extensive wine list, but we stuck with water. It seems the menu is prepared daily, as the cover of the paper menu had today's date on it. Dishes were a combination of traditional and innovative, with many vegan and gluten free options. We chose the Coconut Chickpea Curry, Zuckerman Farms Asparagus & Snap Peas and Wok Fired Beef Satay. The dishes were visually appealing, served hot, and brought to our table as they came out of the kitchen. You can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients and combine them in a sophisticated way. It was my birthday weekend celebration with my friends and I chose The Dutchess after a client recommended it to me. It did not disappoint. The service was fantastic, the pastries were tempting and freshly baked and the brunch was perfect. I ended up getting 2 sunny-side eggs with a side of potatoes. Stopped in for coffee and pastries while visiting Ojai. They do offer a full brunch with hostess seating, but the front and outdoor seating areas are available if you're just stopping in for coffee and pastries. Both very well decorated. Orders are placed at the register and pastries are given to you right away, and you'll receive a table tent so they can bring your coffee out. The pastries were really good, with a nice variety to choose from. The only thing that would have made them even better is if the savory pastries were heated. The coffee, however, took quite a while to arrive. We had already finished our pastries and our table was cleared before it finally came out. I went back to grab a few more pastries, and while I was away, a gnat flew into my coffee. I brought it back to the register, and they graciously replaced it without any issue. The second cup came out quickly and was noticeably hotter than the first. It seems like Saturdays can get pretty busy, so it might be a better experience to visit during the week if you can. There are a lot of employees but it just seemed like they were busy doing everything else and attending to customers seemed to be second priority. Just my experience. We had such a fantastic experience at The Dutchess. My husband, my in-laws, my brother-in-law, and I came in for dinner, and from start to finish everything was exceptional. I saw this restaurant listed in an LA Times "100 best restaurants in California" article. It was the only one in Ventura County to make the list. I'd never had Burmese food before, which made it even more intriguing! Our server, Julie, advised us that everything was served as shared dishes, or family style. So we ordered accordingly. One starter (crispy potatoes with an indescribably delicious dipping sauce), 3 mains, and an order of fantastic naan completely satisfied our party of four. The crispy rice salad had so many flavors It almost made our heads explode. The coconut chickpea curry was mild yet complex, with a lovely texture. The Tandoori chicken is not to be missed. Burmese food looks like Indian food on paper, but the spices were very different, and the presentation was fabulous. This was an adventure in a meal and I look forward to my second visit! One warning..the soda refills are NOT complimentary so the Diet Coke ended up being $18.00. We were not advised of this during service, so I'm advising you here. Cafe turns into a Burmese restaurant at night. Atmosphere once you walk into the posterior part of the restaurant has a moody vibe. Crispy rice salad is an explosion of flavor. A lot of textures and crunch. The Biryani looks like a chicken pot pie on the outside but is all basmati rice with few pieces of lamb inside. Puri is duck liver with this sweet jam served with fried naan. It is nice in smaller amounts but she a few bites, it was a bit much for me. I think I'm used to naan not being sweet and the combo of sweet fried naan with sweet duck liver was too different than the usual savory I expect. The best dish in my opinion was the organic tandoori half chicken. The chicken is juicy, good portions, masala was flavorful but not too much. The drinks and food were delicious I will say, however the line to order was long, they were sold out of their other main gluten free option, the drinks took a surprisingly long time to come out, and the prices were pretty steep especially for the drink modifications like non-dairy milk and flavoring. Can be a super busy place and the one negative is they have an ordering bottleneck - one person taking orders right in the main passage to the back dining spaces, and you have to go get all your flatware, cutlery and napkins from a central place. My family and I visited this place due to its popularity. We didn't get a chance to taste the pastries as we had a reservation for a sit down meal. It was a nice setting and the server was good. I ordered the breakfast plate with half bacon and half sausage. The sausage patty fit perfectly on the sourdough bread and so I also placed the eggs and tomato sauce on top. Chefs kiss! It was so good! All the flavors were there without overpowering. The potatoes had very good seasoning in top. 5/5 dish for me! My husband ordered the egg sando and he said it was a lot of bread and a lot going on at the same time. THE DUTCHESS: One of the most popular spots in Ojai for brunch, you can't beat this place. Known for their bakery goods, a line forms pretty early and I'm always impressed how they crank out their baked goods. We made reservations (highly recommend) and sat in for a lovely brunch on their outdoor patio. The restaurant itself is charming with their multi rooms, it's a little maze and quite fun. The covered patio is the way to go though as it's quiet and pretty outside. Also a quick shoutout to Rebecca for being the absolute best. For this trip we opted for some classic brunch bites: 1. Breakfast Sando is delicious. The tomato chutney gave it that perfect kick of flavor and was reminiscent of my favorite Indian dishes. A perfectly cooked sunny side up egg and I added the crispy bacon which is a must. It's a perfect breakfast sandwich that is filling but not greasy. 1. BLT Sandwich was the star of the show. Giant brioche toast, huge fresh tomatoes, extra thick crispy bacon and a lovely aioli made this dish a 10/10. Simple but perfect. Prices were reasonable and as mentioned above, service was awesome. We decided to drive from Santa Barbara to Ojai on this beautiful day and try Roti. They weren't open until noon, and we arrived at 11, so we opted to try the place next door. It has a cool country vibe with a great outdoor patio. There was a long line at the walk-up ordering station. Seating was self-serve, and we got our own plateware and other items. The brunch menu was easy to navigate. There are a few reasons why I'm only giving three stars. I ordered the DUTCHESS BREAKFAST PLATE -- Weiser Farms potatoes, Niman Ranch bacon, tomato chutney, sourdough toast, and two eggs OM. I substituted the bacon for their homemade country sausage patties. The sausage was very pink in the middle and undercooked, and as was rest of the plate;barely warm and definitely cold less than eating halfway through. The crispy potatoes and sourdough toast were the highlights of the plate. Jennifer ordered the CHICKEN SATAY BOWL -- marinated chicken breast, avocado, cucumber, calrose rice, pickled red onion, sesame, served with creamy peanut dressing--and it was also barely warm. I took a few bites and thought it was ok, great. Would have expected much more dominant flavors for an Indonesian dish. The person delivering our food didn't say hello or treat us kindly; they simply asked whose plates were whose, with a somewhat smug attitude that seemed bothered to be there. I dared asked for butter and she never offered ketchup or anything else we might have wanted and didn't check back on us at all. If she had, I would have addressed our concerns. However, a very friendly and polite young staff member came by to address a noisy and disruptive group of kids, whose parents didn't do anything about it. Jennifer is a school teacher, so she was fine with it; I, however, was less so. I wouldn't be so critical if the price weren't $70 for breakfast. My expectations run a bit higher at this price point.. Would we return? Probably, but it wouldn't be our first choice in Ojai, but I would definitely ask for the food to be served much warmer. read more

They had a bunch of pastries and breads on the display window that all looked phenomenal it was hard to pick which one to try. I ended up going with the cheesy twist which unfortunately I was so excited to try. I didn't take a picture of. It was light and fluffy like a croissant and had an amazing cheese and herb taste to it. We shared the BLT from the perfectly toasted bread to the perfectly crisp bacon to the perfectly juicy tomatoes it was one of the best BLTs I've ever had!
