Still great, but one fewer star because they no longer offer the Croque Madame on weekends. This is tragic!

It was my birthday weekend celebration with my friends and I chose The Dutchess after a client recommended it to me. It did not disappoint. The service was fantastic, the pastries were tempting and freshly baked and the brunch was perfect. I ended up getting 2 sunny-side eggs with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were seasoned with yellow curry where it wasn't too much but just enough to detect it. I also ordered an almond croissant which the waitress put a candle on for me. I tried a bite of the spicy chicken and waffle; woooo was that tasty too!

Stopped in for coffee and pastries while visiting Ojai. They do offer a full brunch with hostess seating, but the front and outdoor seating areas are available if you're just stopping in for coffee and pastries. Both very well decorated. Orders are placed at the register and pastries are given to you right away, and you'll receive a table tent so they can bring your coffee out. The pastries were really good, with a nice variety to choose from. The only thing that would have made them even better is if the savory pastries were heated. The coffee, however, took quite a while to arrive. We had already finished our pastries and our table was cleared before it finally came out. I went back to grab a few more pastries, and while I was away, a gnat flew into my coffee. I brought it back to the register, and they graciously replaced it without any issue. The second cup came out quickly and was noticeably hotter than the first. It seems like Saturdays can get pretty busy, so it might be a better experience to visit during the week if you can. There are several public parking lots nearby, along with street parking

This place was good. They bake everything fresh in house daily starting at 4am so it is always the best of the best. The food was great! The service in my opinion, could be better. There are a lot of employees but it just seemed like they were busy doing everything else and attending to customers seemed to be second priority. Just my experience. I will say they charge a 4% "health tax" to help pay for employee health care so just prepare yourself for that.

This place was so delicious!! We finished every bite of our breakfast plates. The potatoes were cooked perfect and seasoned so well. The bacon was really good paired with the eggs and bread. The bread was sooo good. The eggs were also cooked perfect I got mine sunny side up. If you ever want a good breakfast spot go here! The inside was spacious and the service was good. I'm excited to try their dinner one day.

    * Mango lassi ice box pie * Sticky rice donuts * Pink guava sorbet * Sesame gelato

We had such a fantastic experience at The Dutchess. My husband, my in-laws, my brother-in-law, and I came in for dinner, and from start to finish everything was exceptional. Our server, Gabriel, truly made the evening special. My father-in-law is vegan and my husband has allergies to cashews and pistachios, which can sometimes make dining out stressful. Gabriel handled everything with confidence, care, and attention to detail. He walked us through the menu, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made sure everyone at the table felt comfortable and taken care of. The ambiance was beautiful, warm, and inviting, and every dish we tried was outstanding. We started with the naan and the Weiser Farms crispy potatoes, both of which were fantastic. The crispy rice salad and tea leaf salad were fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. For entrées, the coconut chickpea curry was comforting and delicious, while the organic tandoori half chicken was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. We also enjoyed the duck breast, which was beautifully prepared and a standout dish. Dessert was just as impressive. The mango lassi ice box pie was bright, refreshing, and unique. We also loved the sticky rice donuts, especially paired with the pink guava sorbet and sesame gelato. What stood out most was the level of service. Gabriel struck that perfect balance of professionalism, knowledge, and genuine hospitality. The entire experience felt elevated and effortless, honestly the kind of service you expect at a Michelin-starred restaurant. We'll absolutely be back and will be recommending The Dutchess to everyone we know.

    EXTREMELY SALTY congee
    Jocelyn S.

I really wanted to like this spot. It's so beautifully decorated and roomy. But the congee was inedible from how salty it was. I sent it back and they said they'd remake it without any salt. It came back just a tad less salty, still very salty. I finished it anyway with my cappuccino because their food is on the pricy side ($9 for a ham and cheese croissant). I'd stick to just the pastries next time.

Cafe turns into a Burmese restaurant at night. Atmosphere once you walk into the posterior part of the restaurant has a moody vibe. Crispy rice salad is an explosion of flavor. A lot of textures and crunch. The Biryani looks like a chicken pot pie on the outside but is all basmati rice with few pieces of lamb inside. Puri is duck liver with this sweet jam served with fried naan. It is nice in smaller amounts but she a few bites, it was a bit much for me. I think I'm used to naan not being sweet and the combo of sweet fried naan with sweet duck liver was too different than the usual savory I expect. The best dish in my opinion was the organic tandoori half chicken. The chicken is juicy, good portions, masala was flavorful but not too much. Although I didn't like the other dishes as much, they were nice to try. It's a lot of flavors going on, so still a pleasant experience.

Came by on a Thursday with my brother for a drink before dinner. Not too busy, lots of open tables, vibe is fine, bartender was cool. Cocktails were on point smoky mezcal is my jam. The manager on shift was lacking any personality, hospitality, no greeting or helping staff, just standing there in outer space. Weird vibe. The couple next to us said they were waiting almost 30 mins for their meal - why?! So many amazing restaurants in the area. Step it up The Dutchess!!!

Ambiance and service was great. The food came onto the table relatively quickly too and everything was super delicious.

Cortado & iced Matcha Latte with almond milk and vanilla (good but expensive)
    Kerry N.

This place is so cute, a great interior design with lots of seating and great location in downtown Ojai. We stopped here for coffee and pastries when we first arrived which was great timing. I got the iced matcha latte with almond milk and vanilla plus the gluten free vegan almond strawberry cake. My fiancé got a cortado and the slab rhubarb pie. The drinks and food were delicious I will say, however the line to order was long, they were sold out of their other main gluten free option, the drinks took a surprisingly long time to come out, and the prices were pretty steep especially for the drink modifications like non-dairy milk and flavoring. Overall would definitely visit again, but will probably arrive earlier to get the pastries and maybe go somewhere else for matcha.

Such a pleasant surprise this morning when I came here for breakfast. Got a hand pie and danish to go but also had the breakfast plate and salad. The little lentil chutney that comes with the breakfast plate is insane! The salad was lovely not over dressed and had pickled onions, very refreshing and delightful. Took a while for my food to come out but well worth the wait. Lavender latte also excellent!

    Hailey S.

came here on a whim when my bf was running the ventura marathon. the cafe is cute and has a lot of seating. during the morning, they had an array of pastries neatly shown on display. i got the lemon olive oil cake and samosa pastry. the samosa had a lot of filling and the spices were pretty good. their tomato jam was interesting and added a nice touch to the pastry. lemon olive oil cake was a little dry to my liking but still yummy! a little sweet. service here is prompt and they are nice.

The bacon egg and cheese bagel is fantastic- worth the wait for it to be made in the wood-fired pizza oven- excellent everything bagel with tons of seeds and great flavor - bacon MADE IN HOUSE(as are all of their products ) meat and eggs purchased from the same local farm and a wonderfully sharp cheddar (not sure of the origin of the cheese). The price is inclusive of tax and tip- and their business model provides a livable wage and benefits including a 401k match - how many restaurants offer that! ?!? The Farmer and the Cook -- Fresh Finds Off the Main Road…read more I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect walking in for the first time, but The Farmer and the Cook won me over pretty quickly. It's bright, clean, and has this easy organic warmth to it... the kind of place that feels like it was put together by people who actually care. Right off the main road, easy to find, and the family vibes are real. It's the kind of spot you want to linger in. If you're navigating dietary restrictions, this place is a quiet goldmine. Strong gluten free options, a genuinely vegan friendly menu, and plenty of vegetarian choices too... so everyone at the table actually gets to eat something they're excited about. That's rarer than it should be. The food? Solid. I went with the raw tacos, sopes, and huarache; all filling, all fairly priced for the area. The raw tacos especially surprised me... fresh, flavorful, and not in a "I wish this was a real taco" kind of way. These hold their own. Service was quick and most of the staff had a warm, genuine energy about them. The one small snag; the cashier seemed to be having a rough one. A little gruff, made me feel like my first visit was mildly inconvenient for them. It happens, we all have bad days, but first impressions do stick a little. Overall though, I'm absolutely coming back. There's more on that menu calling my name and an atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down for a bit. Whether you're vegan, gluten free, or just looking for something fresh and honest... this one's worth the stop.

It's located in a parking lot behind the main strip and in a residential area. All street parking but it tends to be pretty easy. This visit, they weren't there in their usual section so I assume they were pretty much sold out fast. Loads of fresh organic vendors with all their goods. As it was summer, there were so many vendors with amazing tomatoes. Heirlooms, grape tomatoes and so all. Everything all looked so fresh and I'm sure it was straight from the farm that morning. Also loads of other vendors selling their homemade goods, like soap to candles to everything in between. Majority of the vendors are fresh produce so you know you'll be picking up fresh farm products. Also fresh flowers are always a must when a visiting the farmers market. Can't forget the fresh berries and fruits. Doesn't scream summer without all the fresh berries straight of the plant. Regardless what you're looking for or not, I'm sure you'll always leave with plenty of fresh things at this market. Their items are always so fresh. A must whenever I'm Ojai.
