Tried Butter & Fold in Ventura and overall such a cute spot! - Super easy to find, and we actually got lucky with street parking right next to the shop - It's a small, cozy place with limited seating, but that adds to the charm - Service was really friendly, and you can tell everything is made fresh--they were baking while we were there We tried the warm chocolate croissant and pistachio croissant (so good and unique!), and freshly brewed chai tea. I added wildflower honey to my chai and really enjoyed the combo. Only thing I'd say is the drinks felt a little pricey for the portion size, but everything tasted great. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely come back.
First time here and I was pleasantly surprised how good the croissant was to go. It seemed like a traditional croissant very flaky very airy with a great flavor. It was a nice little place and the customer service seemed very nice and inviting. I was in a rush to get something to go today so I didn't get much time to evaluate it for this review, but my early impressions are that this is a nice place to grab a sweet French pastry. The coffee and cappuccino drinks also look quite promising. Will definitely be back to try more from the menu. Thank you for the inviting service.
We stopped by Butter & Fold on a Saturday morning and found it pretty empty. The interior had a sleek, modern vibe with both counter and table seating. I chose a Maple Latte and Strawberry Goat Cheese Danish. My latte was nice but the maple element was extremely subtle. I really liked the flavor combination of the Strawberry Goat Cheese Danish. However, it wasn't a mind-blowing pastry. Service was reasonably quick and the guy at the counter was friendly. Overall, this spot got the job done!
I stopped here for a quick hot drink before seeing my next client. I ordered a small unsweetened hot chai. The drink was okay. The thing that bothered me the most was that the Latte art was lacking which is not a huge deal if it was topped with spices or cocoa but it was a sad looking drink. I expected a prettier drink for the price I paid.

service was sweet & friendly. they explained the menu with patience. we ordered an iced americano and iced late with vanilla syrup. they also have an abundance of unique syrups that i can't wait to try. the americano was a bold roast and not too acidic which was pleasant. as for the pastries, i do not recall the names however the one pictured on the top right was my favorite. it was flaky and buttery while the bottom one was light & airy with lemon custard. it was also nice to see the pastry chef making them in house while we ordered. we chose to dine in and enjoy our treats. it did have that European vibe & it was a nice way to enjoy a fall weekend. will be back
It is so cute in here, but I'm unsure if it justifies the cost. For almost $9 with tip, I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and maple syrup as a sweetener, and the drink was only 12oz. I do really like that they have a pretty extensive list of sweeteners and that they have maple syrup since that's my favorite and not always available. The matcha quality was good, and the baristas working were really nice, but I probably wouldn't come back alone just due to the price. Would be such a great place with good vibes to hang out with friends though!
Such a quaint little shop. I ordered a vanilla chai and a lemon curd pastry. My chai wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting a little more spice, it was good, but I will order something else next time. I feel like my pastry was a little over baked. It was very crunchy. But the lemon curd flavor was spot on. The gentleman that helped me was super helpful with letting me know which pastry was which.
A lovely small coffee shop with delicious coffee and sweet staff! Not too much seating inside so it fills up fast especially in the mornings but if you can grab a table it's the perfect place to work from. They have free wifi, just ask the staff for the password. A good amount of charging ports but they are mainly by the window seating so if you need to plug in keep that in mind! Always come here for a quick coffee/pastry when I'm in town!

I have been here once or twice before. One of them was for Yelp event. I had tried their love knot pastry, which was amazing and it still is. This time I came with my husband to have a cup of coffee in a local coffee shop. I was not impressed by their coffee. I had iced cappuccino and he had a warm latte both drinks. It felt like it was pure milk. They have/make their own syrup which we wanted and picked honey. There was no honey flavor whatsoever. We could not even taste the coffee flavor. We had to pay extra $1 I think for the flavor which wasn't even there. when I went to ask to remake a drink. They just wanted to add extra honey, which was not the only problem. They didn't really want to remake the drink It was during the heat wave and it was unbearable to sit inside a coffee shop so we decided to sit outside. We also had their love knot pastry, which was really good I think service was just OK. They didn't seem they wanted to remake the drink. Even when the drink was remade, it was still OK. I'm not impressed by this coffee shop anymore. I am unsure if I will be returning for coffee however I will recommend their pastry though. read more

A lovely small coffee shop with delicious coffee and sweet staff! Not too much seating inside so it fills up fast especially in the mornings but if you can grab a table it's the perfect place to work from. They have free wifi, just ask the staff for the password. Butter & Fold gives me all of the feels, they are like a hallmark coffee shop from the movies and it just makes me feel transplanted somewhere else for day. I love the design and aesthetic of this place. It's cozy and inviting but trendy without feeling pretentious. They have really perfected the cozy little neighborhood coffee shop vibes in the best way. I'm lucky I actually found this coffee shop through a Yelp event/experience awhile back and this spot has stayed on my mind. I am not a huge coffee drinker but sometimes it does hit the spot. Came in this morning for a little pastry and coffee after the gym to keep my momentum up for the day. After a hard workout I was crashing a little and needed some coffee. I grabbed their iced pumpkin pie latte and a vanilla latte for a friend. Their coffee here is subtle and flavors aren't overdone. I am not a huge coffee drinker or expert but it always hits the spot here for me. What I truly love even more than their coffee if I am being honest is their baked good and pastries. Now these delicious bites I can get behind and would regularly come in for more often if I just lived a little closer. Their pastries here are so buttery and clearly baked with love. I've been obsessed with every bite I've ever gotten from here. This AM I tried a plum and cheese danish and oh Lordy it was a 10/10. You can't go wrong with any of their fresh baked goods here. The staff and service are always stellar! Always welcoming and just a feel good friendly vibe. Aside from the tasty bites I'll say everyone being so lovely here is what will also keep me coming back. I appreciate the service and the staff that make this place such a feel good vibe. Service is also a definite A+. My only slight critique is I find the prices to be a tad bit high. Two small iced lattes and a pasty $20. $6.50 per drink feels a little steep give the size of the cup but I understand they are a small business competing with those big name brands nearby. While I don't think my wallet will allow me to come all of the time, I recognize I'd rather put my money here then somewhere else as the goods are quality and the staff are absolutely deserving. Likely since I'm not a huge coffee gal it's just harder for me to justify $6+ a coffee than most. I just had to say it as I stay true to my reviews but overall I really do love Butter & Fold and will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

The coffee here is really good!! However, I wouldn't suggest it as a study spot. The chairs are uncomfortable, there aren't any plugs, and it can get a bit warm inside. But for a casual hangout or a quick coffee run, this place is a solid choice. Overall, the coffee itself is excellent and well worth trying. read more
If "frustration" was a bakery it would be called Butter & Fold. The best thing about this bakery was the person who designed it because it is pretty inside. Unfortunately for us, everything else that would warrant a business to be a bakery/cafe was so incredibly bad. Stepping into the shop, we were greeted with the smell of browned butter, a view of the display case, and kitchen in the background, as well as a few tables, which on this beautiful weekday morning had quite a few people dining in - good sign right? So we were excited. We were not greeted by the girl at the register however, after she helped the guy in front of us, she just stared at us like we were aliens and waiting for us to talk. I was with my little niece and little sister. So we greeted her and my sister asked her what two pastries were in the case. NOTHING was labeled, except for a sign that they use "organic" "grass fed" butter. Surprisingly she was annoyed! The employee just said the names of it and then stopped, no explanation or anything. So I asked her if she would be so kind to explain what everything was and she started firing off all the items as fast as she could, as if it was her only breath to do it in lol but the benefit with that was, she dropped her annoyed attitude so that was nice, she was just 'whatevers' after that ... perhaps today was not her day, we all have them so I get it. Or perhaps she has to do that with everyone because there are no labels, so yea that would be annoying. We ordered three pastries to share, I got the plain croissant and a latte. All the pastries were severely over baked and tasted burnt. The croissants were not laminated well at all either. The latte was not only extremely bitter but also sour. I just don't understand how bad it is given the good reviews and people dining in. No matter how you try to market it, burnt is still burnt. Perhaps this was a bad day? Or do people just go along with their pretentiousness to be 'accepted' since they already spent their money? I will never know, you can be the judge of it if you want to waste your money here. Came around 10 am to meet a friend for pastries, wasn't sure how fresh they'd be since it wasn't early in the morning. But they were still making fresh baked goods and bringing them out!! The cashier said her fav was the croissant roll and it was absolutely delicious. Flaky and still soft inside. Didn't know what to expect since (unfortunately) there's a lot of negative reviews on their baked goods but soooo good! Will definitely come again. Beautiful spacious ambiance inside read more

One of my favorite cafes in Ventura and one of my go-tos for espresso sodas. Cozy little cafe, and they always make delicious pastries. The love knot is a delicious combination of croissant with sugar. It's so moist, and I could just sit there and eat these. Their espresso and honey soda is my favorite, but I recently tried their espresso and vanilla soda - delish as well! They definitely do a great job at making them. Street parking only, but we never have any problems finding a spot. Definitely recommend, and you'll be a repeat customer for sure. read more

WOW! This unique cafe has coffee and pastries that are phenomenal, especially if you love chocolate. Their assortment of croissant-style pastries is creative, abundant and delicious. The service was friendly informative and quick. The place has a definite Euro-style vibe which feels warm (pastry kitchen is open to the cafe area), colorful and has good energy. Location: On the corner of a major strCharming little shop tucked in a residential neighborhood. Street parking only. Food: The pumpkin brioche was $7.75 for a SINGLE slice -- a steep price I hoped would reflect something special. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver. Just a few bits of pumpkin and otherwise underwhelming. (Photo included -- for scale, my hand is size S/M glove.) Also tried two mandolins for $4.25 total. They weren't buttery or memorable. Customer Service: Staff was friendly -- the only reason this place gets one star. Overall: Disappointment. read more
First time here and definitely not my last! Absolutely love the unique corner building! Very welcoming & cozy! Immediately greeted & all my questions about the extensive menu options were answered. It was a perk to see all the fresh pastries being made in house. It was busy yet still a very charming ambiance. Wonderful place to meet w friends or go alone to work or study! Loved the non dairy options so I decided to order an oat milk lavender latte! I also picked out several homemade pastries that included the famous Love Knot, apple filling, crunchy yet soft I was also impressed by all the tea options! I have been underwhelmed with the options with pastries here. The first time, I ordered a chocolate au pan, and it was very small, almost burnt, and felt very expensive for what I was getting. The second time I went, I felt the same way. I tried a third time after seeing a post for a lovely chocolate cake that was being offered for Valentine's. I was again surprised that what was in front of me did not feel like a representation of what I saw online. Also, I had to ask for the sauce, again from the picture I had seen. When I asked the barista, she seemed disinterested in what I was hoping was going to be a culinary experience given that these pastries are baked in house by a pastry chef. The location is beautifully decorated, but it was excessively loud with only about 3 people there. The music could have been turned done to a more pleasant level. I will say I haven't tried the drinks, so I can not speak to that. I was mostly excited for the bakery portion of this business. read more

$45 later and it just like Starbucks on a good day . Won't be back service slower then a short school bus . No signage about pricing and I didn't feel like being at the counter all day with seashell sally taking forever to explain anything . Won't be back : too boring . I doubt this place will last more than 3 years so I guess go while you can . Food all cold no microwave or oven for any good even though there's a whole chiefs kitchen in the back read more
One would come here to sip and savor their coffee and enjoy the charming ambience, not to pick up coffee on the go. It truly does give European patisserie cafe vibes. The young-ish staff (I've been 2x) are very warm and friendly. The prices are on the higher side, (most pastries start at $6-7) but you are able to enjoy coffee served in ceramic cups and dishes. The pastries do tend to look darker (review mentioned some looked burned) but I think it's to ensure they are fully baked to crispy finish. I will say both the coffee, I got a small mocha, and the pastry tend to be less sweet. It's suited more for adult palette, and the coffee was more subtle tasting, which is still pleasant. I enjoyed my pastry, but didn't taste heavy butter taste. The ingredients are all organic and high quality so the pricing reflects this. So for me this is the opposite of Starbucks To-go coffee culture and heavily sweetened drinks. Butter & Fold does have that similar European vibe of Ficelle. I think I may prefer Ficelle's pastries and their beautiful location off Mills. But Butter & Fold is open longer and has a smaller, cozy atmosphere to enjoy. read more
