Staff is friendly. Limited seating. We ordered and was told to pick up our drinks at the counter. Initially wanted the chicken and waffles but based on the pics on yelp, the waffle is very inconsistent (size, homemade vs eggo, etc). Due to that, we switched gears on what we ordered. Iced americano: phenomenal. Very smooth yet bold and refreshing Paneer dosa: a bit of a let down for me. I was not expecting it to be a plain dosa and chutney on the side. Masala dosa: this was better since it was filled with potato. Chicken sandwich: loved this, very juicy and balanced. Side of fries was excellent. The sandwich is small, just bigger than a slider. Finished in 4 bites. Fries with gunpowder: when we got this, it looks exactly like the regular fries. We figured they mustve forgot that we asked for gunpowder seasoning. We went back to ask for more seasoning, expecting them to just sprinkle it on. They were kind enough to remake it and bring it to us, which was very thoughtful. This time we could see the seasoning, but unfortunately they didn't taste any different. Don't get me wrong, the fries themselves were great- amazing crispy texture, but adding seasoning didn't do anything for them. Overall the hits were the Americano and Chicken Sandwich. Service here is fantastic, and the vibe is awesome as well. This is somewhere I'd stop for a small bite, but not the fill up. read more

Just visiting from out of town and stumbled across this cute spot while looking to do some remote work in downtown Ventura. Coffees, teas and lattes with South Indian brunch and light bites. There are some gluten-free and vegan options too. Friendly servers in a relaxed and comfortable ambiance with music that I can actually enjoy (normally I bring my own headphones but didn't need to this time). Great spot all around. read more

Cute little café in downtown Ventura. I stopped by to grab a chair early Monday morning, and when I got there, it was empty when they just opened. The chai came out quickly in a disposable cup. The service was good; the girl taking my order to my table called out my name when the drink was ready. They have a cute area for kids to sit and read books, which I loved. read more

Got off the 101 to get gas on Oak st. Went into the station to get coffee. Immediately turned around & decided to explore the area in search of the perfect cup. I didn't know I'd actually find THE perfect cup. Right off Oak & Main in sunny downtown, I walked in around 1030am to no wait. Service was quick and friendly. This is on my rotation of coffee shops to work at. They have a large seating area in the back that most people use for working or studying while the front is for people who want to meet with friends and eat. I appreciate that this place has actual food and coffee. I enjoy their mango lasi a lot! Not to mention the ambiance is always great, I usually don't wear headphones because I thoroughly enjoy the music they play. They also have a cute coffee mug group where locals keep their coffee mugs and use them whenever they come in for coffee. I've been to Kaapicat Cafe in Ventura a few times now and it has been part of my coffee + remote work location rotations. I was first introduced to this place by a friend and have since come back on my own. Big tables to co-work. Strong coffee. Yummy Indian food. (I recommend the masala dosa and crispy mini puri!!!) Kaapicat is a downtown Ventura gem. Absolutely everything is delicious. A local foodie said it best, eating at Kaapicat will alter your brain chemistry! I had not been in some time, and I made a visit during the holidays while doing some Christmas shopping and my experience as I stepped in was like returning home. No exaggeration, the smell was so warm and inviting; like coming home and you know something delicious is cooking in the kitchen. I have tried almost everything on the menu, so I feel you can't go wrong with any choice. The breakfast sandwich is delightful. The fried chicken sandwich with the mango chutney has a special place in my heart. The chilaquiles from today, we're divine! But that is not on the regular menu. The different dosas are delicious. They come with different chutneys and I can never get enough! The crispy Minii Puri with the tamarind chutney! Amazing! Sometimes the chef/owner does have special offerings that aren't on the regular menu so be on the lookout for that. And to speak of him, I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to compliment him on his expertise in creating so much depth in his flavor profiles in the recipes he creates. In those conversations you can get an understanding on how much he cares about what he serves and it shows in the quality of the dishes that are prepared. Truly an experience for your taste buds! It's also not just an intention to serve good food, but also the space is beautifully decorated and always has such a positive vibe when you are there. The chais are phenomenal. There is a traditional chai and also a cardamom chai. Both are amazing! My other favorites are the Marine Layer (tea) and the Rose Latte (personal love of mine is a Rose Latte). Overall an experience at Kaapicat is not to be missed. On a sunny day the outdoor patio is lovely, or my favorite is to sit inside next to the window. Everyone is so kind and intentional in their service. Tip: The closest parking is the lot on N. Oak St, it's free and a short walk to the Cafe. Otherwise any of the other lots in Downtown Ventura are fine, the walk is enjoyable through Main St. read more

It's weird because I have passed by this coffee shop one too many times! Yet I come to Ventura often looking for Indian food and for some reason have yet to stop by. I got the masala dosa, which was so good and filling. I also ordered an iced mint tea recommended by the worker who took my order. The man who also was the chef complimented me on some art I was working on, which was nice to hear after being there for 4+ hours. the actual workout environment had plugs, quiet a bit of tables (in and outside) and most likely WiFi but I didn't ask. I'll be back and this time, I will be gaming my mom who also loved Indian food! They also were decently busy with quick food service for only have three staff. Nicholas is the owner, he hand delivered my father's favorite breakfast dish and tea to the Ventura Medical Center. September 2nd, about fifteen days ago, we found out my dad had stage 4 colon cancer. So just the smallest gesture means so much to my family. The food is incredible. I'm sure everyone already knows that. They're the best food you can get on Main street; fresh homemade food can't be beat. But besides the amazing flavors and care into every dish, Nicholas cooked my dad his breakfast and drove it to him in the hospital. That is just so kind. My dad's favorite breakfast is the masala omelet. He also likes the cardamom chai tea. How sweet! I just want everyone to know. Please go visit Kaapicat and help them stay on Main St. and pay the crazy rent and fees you have to cough up to have a business there. We stopped here on the way home. Love that it was open later than many other shops. There was a huge free parking lot behind building. Interior was really cute, lots of plants. Severs/barista were really nice, they handled a customer conflict in front of me really well. My husband loved their iced chai, said it was delicious. I was expecting more from Kaapicat Cafe, a new place (for me) in downtown Ventura. The decor is big, airy, kind of cold, since they specialize in modern Indian food I was expecting more character and color. Their coffee-s are decent, strong and have a nice flavor. Customer service is just OK. I went later in the day, so they had no more pastries left. It was nice to see a staff member setting up in front of the store to make fresh dosa-s, which was cool to see. I wasn't super taken with this place, but whenever I'll be in Ventura next time I'll stop by earlier and give it another try! read more

Clean, open, and welcoming ambiance. Service at the counter was courteous, but no conversation took place. My partner and I have enjoyed their caffeinated drinks we've ordered the last two times. We came here for the first time for breakfast, and it did not disappoint! We ordered their Breakfast sandwich & poached-egg avocado toast with a rose latte and Kaapi coffee. The breakfast sandwich is perfectly portioned and filling. The poached egg avocado toast was very flavorful and I enjoyed being able to taste the lemon pepper. I want to return for this again! As a downtown resident, I've been wanting to try this place for a while because I have heard so many great things. It's a very cute, clean, modern cafe with an airy feel. Counter person was very friendly and gave good recommendations. I sat outside to people watch which was a good play since there's a lot to see downtown (good and bad). I got an iced sea salt caramel latte, ricotta cake and the chicken sandwich. Latte was delicious and not overly sweet. The ricotta cake was INSANELY delicious! You could see the bits of vanilla bean specs within each bite; so flavorful, moist... my latte and the cake made the perfect couple. Exactly what I was wanting on my cheat day. I would even buy a whole cake for an event, it was *that* good. The chicken sandwich was excellent EXCEPT they absolutely should not pound the chicken flat for cooking. It's served on a fluffy brioche bun with a heaping amount of coleslaw (which was super flavorful and delicious). The chicken is so thin that it gets lost in what would otherwise be a killer sando. The chutney that they serve on the side is excellent and I disgustingly licked the cup clean in front of passerby's with zero shame. I would definitely come back to try some other menu items. As I was looking at other people's food it all looked very unique and delicious. I'm super excited about this awesome addition to downtown Ventura. Support small business! Finally made it over for a late lunch. What a great find! The whole restaurant is super open, light, and relaxing with plenty of seating options. They have a great coffee menu as well as many options for brunch or lunch. The Masala Dosa was delicious! It was like a savory-stuffed crepe with 3 different dipping sauces - adding egg is a must. We had bought it to share, but it was so good we probably could've each gotten our own. Their Kaapi coffee was also delicious with good spice. Where else can you get an Indian Chaat-style restaurant with a full coffee shop? Well, apparently, in Ventura! This place was legit. My favorite is definitely their Pani Puri and their Dosas. I was on a good lil ole road trip and my partner and I's stomach started to growl. I whipped out my handy dandy yelp and voila the suggestions appeared. It was about 1000 in the morning when we had arrived. It was not too busy, and the aesthetic of the place was quite cute. What had sold me is that someone posted a photo saying this was the best chai they ever had. NOW, I been around the block trying chai teas. From OC to LA to now Ventura county, I will be the judge of the chai teateas. Order: Chilaquiles Chicken and waffles 2 iced masala chais (not pictured) The chilaquiles 3.8/5 The flavor to these chilaquiles was not at all what I was expecting. I'm use to Mexican style chilaquiles but the sauce in this one was quite different. It had a kick to it but it was definitely not Mexican spiced. I feel like it could've used more protein, only 1 egg compared to all the tortilla chips just felt like a carb heavy meal. Maybe add an extra egg or some type of protein within it. The chicken and waffles 3.5/5 The chicken laid on half a waffle. I think the portion of the chicken was quite healthy but looking at the plate it looked so bare. The chicken also had a unique spice and flavor to it, it was quite good. Different than your norm that's for sure. Chai lattes 10/5 I am pleased to say the chai lattes were phenomenal. They had such a great spice to it; it did not feel milky whatsoever. I been to so many places for chai this is honestly, the top of my list right now. I don't live near Ventura county but I'd honestly make my boyfriend drive me back here just to drink like 12 chais and pass out. The service was not anything special. Pretty standard. Loved everything about this place! I came across it while in the area and needed to check out an Indian spot that offered a flair to brunch items. There is plenty of seating inside but they have some tables outside too. The staff was friendly and they were happy to offer suggestions. They have lots of great options on their menu, both traditional and fusion. My food came out pretty quickly considering how busy they were. I tried the breakfast sandwich and that was probably the best masala omelette I've had, aside from my mom's. Kaapicat is a must when I'm visiting ventura. Their coffee is one of the few that doesn't give me the runs. It's the perfect place to study & get some work done or catch up with a friend. There's plenty of outdoor & indoor seating, plus a cute little sofa to get comfy on & read a book. They have small bites for breakfast or brunch options. I haven't found one I didn't like ;). From the chai to coffee - I've always enjoyed my drink here. Sometimes the service is a hit or miss. You're greeted with a warm welcome or with someone who's clearly going through it lol.
