Every time I eat here, I am impressed. So many delicious entrees, appetizers and desserts! If this restaurant was closer I would come here more often. The staff is super friendly and comes to check on your group. Vibes are relaxing (especially with the music playing) and chill.

So I had been here before and I enjoyed the food. My husband and I decided to come New Year's Day and gather with friends. So I called at least 1.5 hours before getting there and made a reservation! When we got there which was on time, they Didn't have a table for us! The hostess was RUDE! When it's their fault for not honoring our reservation! So he's like you have to wait, at least 20-30 mins! Excuse me! Whats the point of having a reservation then! Anyways they moved a couple to seat us! We had 7 adults and 1 kid! Food took over 45 mins! I had the samosa chat which I recommend and the chicken korma medium spice and also good! They took forever to bring the food, and someone else had the Korma and so they mixed it up though one was chicken And the other Lamb! Other people in the table had the combo, they were 2 sitting next to each other. So they get Garlic Naan part of the combo. Only of them got the garlic naan, so toward the end. We asked, hey we're missing the garlic naan for this meal. Their response was, it was mixed with the other person who has the combo. Anyways it wasn't much garlic naan so they brought one and made it sound like they brought one to replace that. Instead after I got home I realized they charged for their garlic bread they brought. Also the food portions are small for what they charge! They charge $3.99 for soda and $1.99 for refill for soda! What? Who does that? It's just SODA! Secret for that many reviews! They bribe people! After dinner, they bring you " free rice putting" and right after before brining the bill, they bring you QR code to rate them!! So check comes and they have 6% charge! RSC! So we ask what is this? Restaurant service charge! That's usually done in big cities such as LA which I have not seen! " to cover their employees" and! Hows that my problem! They had already charged 20% for service! Which was HORRIBLE! I should have made them take that out! Since I was not happy w their service for seating us late and for taking forever to get food ready and on top of it charging for unnecessary items! Before you dine here. Check everything and the 6% add on plus 20% Service charge! Plus over priced food! Won't return here

This food was delicious. It was very empty when we got there but it was a weeknight so I wasn't too surprised. While we were there there were a few orders that came in for pick ups or DoorDash, and another couple that came in to eat. So we weren't the only ones that ate there on a random Thursday night which is a good sign. We ordered samosas appetizer, garlic chicken plate and mirchi (spicy) chicken plate. All food was good with a nice spice level! And not just spicy to be hot- it had actual flavor! And the portion sizes were great! The total for the above plus a soda and a masala chai drink was about $114. That includes an 18% tip (not automatic), and the 6% restaurant surcharge. I hate the surcharge but would go back.

Grabbed a quick lunch here and thought the vegan options were great! Nice decor and friendly service, will be back next time I'm in the area.

This was our 3rd time at the Taj Cafe and the food was excellent. We ordered 2 of their specials and were very pleased. The service is friendly and attentive. We look forward to our next time!

We got a lot of complimentary items and at the end they requested we write a review.. I would have regardless. All items were delicious. Partner and I split the chicken tikka masala. Perfect for two. A little on the sweeter side that I'm used to but would order again. The garlic naan had a lot of garlic and we loved it. Complimentary chutney sampler. That was alright. Complimentary aloo tiki chaat. That was pretty good. Complimentary Kheer. It's my favorite desert and it was great! We left with a little coupon. The service was good. They checked on us a good amount. I sat on the patio since it was a beautiful day. We did not go inside. We will back!

great family-owned restaurant! loved the service and how they pampered us with free appetizers and dessert. the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer included a good amount of protein which was nice. the saag paneer was a bit bland but it feels healthier which is a bonus? :) the chicken naan was a bit dry but it was a huge portion. overall would recommend for indian food in the area!

Loveeee taj! A great option for a sit down in downtown Ventura. The food is great.. naan is top tier and love their green chutney sauce so much. Never had a bad dish. They always throw in freebies and complimentary items while dining in which is so sweet. Family owned and very local. The veggie combo is my go to. *note this isn't a fast dining experience so just an fyi

A Comforting Go-To at Taj Cafe - A Ventura Favorite My family and I made another visit to Taj Cafe in Ventura, a place we go to so often the servers know us by now. With our third son on the way, we were looking for something comforting, familiar, and stress-free--and as always, Taj Cafe delivered. Food: I ordered the tikka masala lamb combo meal, and my wife went with our usual favorite, the butter chicken--our go-to dishes every time. Both were excellent. The lamb was tender and flavorful, coated in a rich tikka masala sauce that's perfectly spiced without being overwhelming. The butter chicken was creamy, comforting, and consistently delicious, which is why we keep coming back. The combo meal was filling and a great value. Experience: What makes Taj Cafe special for us is the consistency. The food is always fresh, hot, and satisfying, and the relaxed pace makes it an easy, enjoyable stop--especially on busy days. It feels familiar and comfortable every time we visit. Service: The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Being regulars, it's nice walking into a place where you're recognized and treated like family. They make sure everything is just right and genuinely care about their customers. Overall: Taj Cafe in Ventura isn't just a restaurant for us--it's a trusted favorite. If you're looking for reliable, comforting Indian food with great service and a welcoming atmosphere, this place is hard to beat. Highly recommended.

Amazing amazing amazing!!!! The service here is exceptional the food is so flavorful. Only reason I came here was because my usual Indian restaurant was closed and I was really craving it. I'm definitely glad I came here. They provided me with complementary items to get a little taste of what they offer and let's just say this. I will most definitely be coming back here. Give this place a chance I promise you you will not be disappointed.

Phenomenal Indian food. My friend from India recommended this to me as this is his favorite authentic Indian restaurant in the area. We ordered a whole bunch of different dishes, and everything we got was exceptional. I would highly recommend the butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, saffron rice, and samosas. If you're in Ventura and looking for some good Indian food, The Taj Cafe is the way to go. We ordered takeout, but the location on Main Street and ambiance is ideal.

It's been quite a few years since I've been in the area during lunchtime. The lunch buffet is no longer offered. Instead, they have lunch specials that are amazing. Freshly grilled chicken and classic vegetable side dishes. Fresh baked garlic nann and all the sauces. Chai tea and ice water with lemon in a glass. I highly recommend the Taj Cafe for lunch.

Complimentary rice pudding at the end of our meal.

First Visit is today, a beautiful Sunday afternoon and we arrived at the very end of lunch before they close to prepare for dinner service. I started with the Ginger, Basil Limeade which was very refreshing and reminded me of a similar refresher from a Burmese place in SF. Definitely unique and a perfect compliment to the tasty food. Do yourself a favor and order the Samosas, (2), with the green and tamarind sauces. These are housemade as well as the sauces- and oh, so good!! Hubby ordered Butter Chicken as an entry and it was a large portion, along with the onion Naan. I ordered the plate with smaller bowls of the Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo, accompanied by rice in order to try more dishes. So much good food and the price is reasonable. We enjoyed the flavors, quality of the ingredients, including the tender chicken, and the naan with onion was just out of the oven and hot as the sun. We enjoy Indian food wherever we travel and Indian Rasoi stands up and holds a place among the best. The service, ambiance and food are all top notch. I can't wait to try their burritos with the chicken tikka masala wrapped in Naan!

Due to that, we switched gears on what we ordered. Iced americano: phenomenal. Very smooth yet bold and refreshing Paneer dosa: a bit of a let down for me. I was not expecting it to be a plain dosa and chutney on the side. Masala dosa: this was better since it was filled with potato. Chicken sandwich: loved this, very juicy and balanced. Side of fries was excellent. The sandwich is small, just bigger than a slider. Finished in 4 bites. Fries with gunpowder: when we got this, it looks exactly like the regular fries. We figured they mustve forgot that we asked for gunpowder seasoning. We went back to ask for more seasoning, expecting them to just sprinkle it on. They were kind enough to remake it and bring it to us, which was very thoughtful. This time we could see the seasoning, but unfortunately they didn't taste any different. Don't get me wrong, the fries themselves were great- amazing crispy texture, but adding seasoning didn't do anything for them. Overall the hits were the Americano and Chicken Sandwich. Service here is fantastic, and the vibe is awesome as well. This is somewhere I'd stop for a small bite, but not the fill up.

YOU ALL!!!! Wanna know how much I love this restaurant??? Well, to start, I have been coming here…read morefor YEARS and have NEVER reviewed it! That's my subconscious, selfish way, from Yelp peeps. LOL! NOW, I finally get to writing a review and realize I HAVE NEVER taken a photo of their FOOOOOOD!!! (Insert face palm so hard it leaves a mark until Ash Wednesday) This visit was a special one to celebrate my friend. Ok, full disclosure: I already knew what she would want, but I also knew I wanted more, and different, meats/preparation. So, yeah, we had dinner and I asked for the menu again, then ordered another feast to go, which I ate for THREE DATS! (Admitednly, could have been 4 days and, actually their portions are PLENTY for 4 people to share, but I didn't. I over ate the 1st day, then paced myself the next 2! where's that palm hit again? POINT BEING!: These are delicious, hearty, fresh, wonderfully flavored dishes at a fair price, made and served by friendly, proud staff. Wow! Where to start - ok, samosas it is! Lovely little delicacies, and some nice options. I have eaten the chicken, the lamb and, of course, the staple Alu(aka Aloo) samosas. All beautifully packed with plenty of filling and light, crispy exterior. What next.... Curries! OHHHHH....oooooo...their curries are SO GOOD! I really love a mutton, but my friend favors poultry and seafood, so this day in May, we ordered the Shrimp Coconut Curry. FABULOUS!!!! AND PLENTIFUL!!!! I have also had Mutton Curry, Lamb Vindaloo, boneless Chicken Korma and the Goat in Coconut Curry - my personal fave. Since I'm talking curry, I'll remind you you'll want some bread with those curries. My favorite naan here are Onion Kulcha, Keema(lamb), and the awesome Peshwari (stuffed raisins, almonds, cashews, cherries and coconut). HowEV-ER - the GARLIC CHEESE NAAN is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!! I'm drooling just thinking about it.... Moving on toooo...TANDORI! if you like lamb, the rack her is TOO DELICIOUS to pass up! With a group? Get the mixed tandoori and everyone can taste a little something. Actually, it's a great appetizer for a group and a great way to introduce friends to Indian herbs and cooking methods. Honorable mentions go to: Saag Paneer(it's always near and dear, that Saag Paneer!), Paneer Masala, Daal Tudka, Papadum(add Mango Chutney, of course!), Rice Pellow(a saffron rice) and Mango Lassi to tame some of the spice. I order all my spice dishes "white girl spicy" so the mango lassi was really just a yummy yogurt treat. The restaurant is large, beautifully decorated with traditional and modern Indian music videos playing on hanging TVs and well cared for. The staff is always friendly, inviting, courteous and helpful. They keep their eyes moving to watch and see who needs anything, but also allow privacy and a no need to rush your meal feeling. The food presentation is lovely and I always feel like they are proud and enthusiastic to help guide me through dishes I'm not so familiar with. This area of the harbor is pretty quiet, serves a lot of people who live close by and walk, so the parking lot is large, mostly empty and free. Go. Enjoy. See why "we" won't want others to know about our fab little secret. Cheers! "CC"

The "Taste of Punjab", in Moorpark, was an over 20-mile one way trip for me from the SFV. If you…read morelike North Indian food, it is my opinion that the state of Punjab in India (and I have spent time there), provides food preparations that are a notch above the rest of its Indian state counterparts (e.g. Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh). So I called the restaurant to fine tune. Their lunch buffet was only on Fridays. The spread would only contain 3 meat selections, all of them chicken (really, no variety?) and only 3 vegetable choices (really, is that all?) Then an appetizer, salad components and condiments. There would be rice and Naan too. A meager set of choices for a $15.99 buffet? Yet, the restaurant was enticing. Hence the pull, to taste their version, of Punjabi food. That sealed the deal for me and I was on my way to pay a visit, and eat. As expected, the choices were limited. There was chicken tikka, chicken tandoori and chicken curry. For vegetables, aloo bhegan (potatoes and eggplant), peas paneer (peas with sautéed Indian cheese cubes) and dahl (lentil curry). The Naan was not brought fresh table-side, but delivered to the hot case. Still, it was soft and wonderful, actually well executed, had good chew, cut into medium sized pieces. Rice came out in small portions in a bowl and was not dry (unlike other buffets). For appetizers, they had one choice, good sized samosas with a thin wrapping (also unlike other buffets) and a simple ,but very tasty and moist potato filling. They were truly fantastic (I had 4 of them, a first for me!). That too, came out, as needed. Like it should be. For me, this is also a sign of thoughtful food management, to provide just prepared items, to enhance freshness, cut down on wastage. On the condiment side though, there were disappointments. The tamarind chutney was watery and their mint chutney thick, and from a bottle. Not fresh. Raita was creamy, with body and wholesome. What was striking at the Taste of Punjab, was the unmistakable high quality and culinary prowess of the chef(s). Every dish oozed with freshness, aroma, rich flavor and an intoxicating blend of well married spices and taste. The three chicken dishes were tender, with soft meat having a perfect texture to satisfy. Overall, every selection on the buffet was unique because, it felt and tasted so different. High class, is the best way to describe it. I was really amazed and blown away. Was also pleased, that my relentless hunger, curiosity and the lengthy drive here to Moorpark, had borne sweet fruit. It was a reward. Definitely, a Punjabi lunch buffet to remember, for a very long time.

Really wanted to love this place. Placed an order over the phone for the Chicken Makhani, basmati…read morerice and Aloo Naan. The Naan was fabulous. The potato was spiced and flavorful and the Naan was cooked perfectly, piping hot but soft. The rice was great. The Chicken Makhani was very bland. I'm a huge fan of butter chicken and this one didn't deliver. It was creamy but almost bitter. The spice (heat) level was perfect (medium), but the flavor was so off I didn't end up finishing the dish. Like I said bitter and not the creamy slightly sweet, rich flavor I'm used to. Disappointing because I had high hopes for this place being a local spot. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were great to deal with. And maybe it was just an off day, I just don't know. I'll be back and try another such soon and see if that changes my mind. But for now, just unimpressed.

Also, I've updated my review to reflect their expanded menu. Fresh Curry Chefs is a fantastic, although very small, Indian food restaurant next to Tony's Pizza and across the street from the Amtrak/Metrolink station in Camarillo. They have an excellent selection of Indian food and everything I've had has been absolutely delicious. For dinner, I especially like the thalis that include rice, naan, soup, a vegetable dish, and yogurt with the main entree. They also have excellent Indian drinks, desserts, and sides. And the staff is very helpful and friendly. So, highly recommended!

It's a beautiful little restaurant with some beautiful Indian souvenirs available for purchase. The service is the best that I've ever had. The owner was warm and friendly; she talked to us as if we were her nephews. She patiently explained the menu and the different types of curries they offer. I opted for the lamb curry and my buddy had the butter chicken. I tried to go for maximum spice level but was advised against it so I went for 4 out of 5 spice level. It was spicy but 5 would've suited me more. The garlic naan bread is the best I have ever had. They also offer an interesting beer selection. I will definitely be coming back.
