The food base - the plant based meats - have changed in the last few years and the prices have skyrocketed! $17 for a burger with no sides?! Insane. We were in Ventura for a few hours and I found this place right off the Johnson exit in the little shopping mall. You have to go into the old food court to find this place. I ordered the Tuna Melt with Fries & my friend ordered the California Omelette with Hash Browns! Great portions and amazing service! Everything is made fresh to order and the food hall had a lot of places to sit and enjoy your meal. The Tuna Melt was good but I think next time I'll get it without the mustard. My sister was here visiting, and she is vegan. I have celiac disease and I am a vegetarian. We were both so excited to find this place. Before I ordered, I explained that I had celiac disease and asked how a few of the items were made. I specifically asked if the chips were corn and in fact gluten-free. The employee shrugged his shoulders and said yeah I think so. I said you hesitated. Are you sure and he said yeah it just took me a minute to remember. Five minutes into my meal I started feeling off. I said something here is not gluten-free. Come to find out. It was the chips because they are fried in a shared fryer. I explained they could not advertise gluten-free if it is in fact, not gluten-free. I just looked at the menu and the chips still say they are gluten-free. People just don't get it. Also loved how they had vegan versions of snickers, twix, and a lot of other popular candies on their counter. My husband got the southwestern burger which was delicious. I was really craving soup so I got the chicken ramen even though I had a feeling it wouldn't be great...unfortunately I was right, but it satisfied the craving. The ramen was basically slightly overcooked instant ramen with an interesting choice of veggies (bell pepper, onion, and carrots), mock chicken, and an egg which was good - I'm pretty sure it's a Wunderegg. Noticed there weren't any photos of the chicken ramen on Yelp so had also taken the chance by ordering it so I could help fellow soup/noodle craving folks see what they're about to order. Menu is a mix of Mexican, Japanese, and burgers/fries. I got the chile relleno plate and partner got musubi. We got nacho fries to share. Loved all our dishes. The relleno was good and filling. The musubi was a childhood throwback, and fries were hand-cut and loaded. The ambiance is that of counter order food. Not much going on in the seating area and it's in a strip mall. It's a food court not best maintained but this restaurant is the livliest with well stocked vegan goodies and over all good presentation that made me confident enough to order. The texture of the "egg" part was a bit tough, kinda like overcooked eggs. The faux meat all tasted similar to me, you could tell it wasn't meat, but taste wise it was actually pretty good. The beef tamale had a red paste like filling and beans. I thought the taste was ok but it was a bit spicy though. For my first vegan experience it was pretty good. As someone from santa barbara where good vegan options are limited i regularly make the drive to eat at seed ranger . Staff is always amazing and kind and personable . I have never once been disappointed by seed ranger . They have so many options that are all amazing . Genuinely do not understand how they manage to do what they do. I've gotten many of their sushi options and been satisfied with them all , i recommend any of the crunchy rolls or any of the the spicy rolls . Everyone loved it and didn't know it was vegan until I told them. Formerly Sea Ranger, now Seed Ranger: I've had so many menu items here that it's hard to keep up but I've never had anything I wouldn't recommend. The flavor, seasoning, culinary technique, presentation... it's hard to miss. Even things like grilling the brioche style bun to get that edge crisp-- IYKYK! I've tried tons of vegan joints from SF to LA and we are so lucky to have this spot in Ventura. The winners here for me are the sushi (amazing!), breakfast & lunch sandwiches, shakes, but... the thing I love the most are their pancakes and hash browns. I swear to god I've never had any like that before! I also LOVE the sauces they use here to compliment their sandwiches. Good service, very accommodating. It's one of the last surviving things inside of a once-popular food court but that's fine by me. There's lot of seating; cool, unique little spot.
