I'm reticent to write negative reviews. Really, you can see I don't lie. But I had to this time. After an exhausting day helping our son move into a new house, my husband was really hungry. More like ravenous. After a rough day, some people do a fancy steak, we do Saag Paneer. We've stoked this crazy mad passion for Saag Paneer for about 30 years. We hunt it down on all our travels. It was my 2am pregnancy craving. Of course, we have our favorite flavors and cooking traditions, but it's not a deal breaker if the Saag Paneer slides on over to the soupier side of solid. However. Yes, however tonight's version danced itself right on over to a solo star because of a seed - wait, not one seed - make that hundreds of seeds that had no business whatsoever being in saag paneer. These seeds should've been wallflowers and sat out my husband's whole dance. And its name is Anise. As my extremely hungry husband was eating and making faces, he wondered aloud how that little dish of breath- saving anise seeds got dumped into his dinner? I played that possibility out for about five seconds, then rolled my eyes. That's it, I'm calling this place. He tossed me a piece of naan. Damn! Somebody in the kitchen was doing the anise dance in everything. While my poor exhausted, crotchety husband belches 24 October angry licorice-scented unhappiness that I will doubtless be serenaded by the residual bullfrog all night, I highly recommend you sit this place out. Wanted a variety of options to try, so started with samosas before adding different types of chicken dishes and breads. I asked for the dishes to be 8 out of 10 for heat - and oh boy were they spicy! But the spice was enough to give the dishes some delicious taste. I sprinkled some mango chutney to add some sweetness. Bread was soft. Service was good - waiter always made sure my water glass was full. The interior decor represents some of the attractions of Nepal. Really good food that was exactly what I needed to warm my belly. It was a Wednesday and a quiet rainy night, and as I was the only person in the restaurant, the service was great! It was not the fanciest place in town by far, but it was clean and seemed to be kept well. I ordered the chicken momos, lamb korma, and garlic naan. The chicken momos were heavenly! Stuffed with a meaty and herbaceous filling and accompanied by a wonderful chili chutney. The kormas flavor was extraordinary; however, I should have asked for spicy, since being in Santa Barbara, I think they toned down the heat for the locals and with a bit more heat it would have been one of the best I have had! The garlic naan could have had more garlic and was slightly too toasted that it got crispy. My unsweetened masala chai also was very warming and smooth. We ordered take out from here for our wedding anniversary dinner. It was raining and we had our dog with us so it was too hard to dine in. I ordered the chicken Mo Mo's, the Saag Paneer, the Salmon Nariwal Coconut Curry, the Chicken Vindaloo, with rice, and the Himalayan Chapati's with butter. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! The server was very kind and let us wait at a table with our dog, while our order was being cooked. The ambiance is very simple but beautiful with gorgeous little colorful lanterns hanging artfully around and pretty Himalayan/Tibetan artwork decorated the cozy restaurant as well. We ordered mango lassi, lamb and chicken momos, and non vegetarian Thali, which came with a meat curry of your choice(chicken, lamb, or goat), naan, rice, daal, and paneer, and rice pudding at dessert. We came for the buffet but they'd stopped offering it due to the Covid19 pandemic. Understandably. I decided to instead order my favorites. Tandoori chicken, saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. When I came with a friend for dinner, it was pretty empty (but again it was a Monday night) and most people got takeout. They have outdoor and indoor tables which are very distanced!! the place is really COVID safe I got the non-vegetarian special thali with chicken. I thought you would be able to choose the vegetarian dish that comes with it but it actually just comes with saag paneer (maybe you can ask to sub though?) The menu says it comes with sliced cucumbers and achar but unfortunately didn't see any on the plate ): The chicken curry was utterly DELICIOUS (5/5) and you can get it spicy or regular (spice 1-10). I got 5 and it wasn't too spicy so I'd get a 7 or so next time. overall super flavorful. Saag paneer was sooo creamy and seasoned so well (I'd also rate 5/5) The daal was also nice but not my favorite (4/5) The rice was a bit dry for my liking but the dish also comes with naan which I prefer anyways so it wasn't a big deal. Love love love! Found this gem on Yelp on a roadtrip from LA to the bay. My bestie and I were craving chicken tikka masala and Himalayan Kitchen was perf! Located in the heart of SB. Took about 5 minutes to get to the restaurant from the 101. Located on State St. in Santa Barbara, which can be pretty busy, so park on one of the smaller streets and take a little stroll to the restaurant. Came here on a Saturday around 3PM. We were greeted and seated as soon as we got there since it wasn't too busy. Ordered two orders of the chicken tikka masala since we like different amounts of spice. It comes with basmati rice and we got an order of garlic nan. We also ordered the cheese pakora which was a tad bit bland, but we were starving so we ate it lol! Welcome to flavor town! We took my neighbor and husband here for her birthday. None of us are very experienced Indian food eaters but we love adventure! Delish starter. The best part was the sauce that came with them. And for someone that can't handle spice it had no kick! So I got to enjoy it. We all ordered something of a different style. I had the Tse Phing (vegetable mung bean noodles) which was light and easy on the tummy, which is my style. If you want to go heavier I'd go for the chow chow, made with thicker noodles. I'd call it an Indian take on spaghetti or Chow Mein. I loved that dish too. My fiancé got the Mixed Sekuwa which came out almost a half hour after ours...not fun to watch other people eat, but he was a good sport. But man, It was well worth the wait! It came out sizzling and made quite the entrance. It had all the types of meat over sweet caramel used onions. I was hovering over his food after once it arrived. We also had garlic Naan which was a great addition to soak up all the left over juices from our meals. We did have lots of left overs since portions are bountiful! Gotta love left overs :) You definitely pay a pretty penny and don't get that great of service. But I'd say it's worth it for the authenticity and quantity of the food. I had not heard much of this restaurant but I was very pleasantly surprised of how delicious everything was! We were searching for Indian food on door dash and Himalayan kitchen came up. We ordered the chow chow noodles and chicken makhani (very similar to Butter chicken incase you were searching for that) and both dishes were AMAZING. I highly recommend ordering both! The food here is top-notch! Great options for vegetarian food. I love veggie momos! My husband has a hard time guessing spice level from one restaurant to the next. One person's 5 is another's 7. He ordered a 5 and said if it was any Spicier, he would not have enjoyed it. So, if you like authentic spice and flavor, they have it. Also, their Naan was some of the best. There was an additional spice I don't usually detect on garlic Naan. Almost like maybe fennel leaves? I couldn't tell what, but it was unique, and I was enamored. The service was good. I couldn't understand our waiter well between my lousy hearing and his accent, but he was friendly enough and answered my questions. The food came quickly. Loved my early dinner here on one of the days I was in Santa Barbara! I tried their "veggie chow chow" which is Himalayan-style chow mein and it was SO delicious... wow. Other Himalayan restaurants I've been to don't serve this so it was a nice dish to experience. It got me wanting to experiment in the kitchen to try and replicate it. I got the chicken tikka masala with basmati rice and garlic naan. Chicken tikka masala- overall not bad. It tasted watered down or not as rich as I am used to. tried mixing it up a couple times but the flavor was just subtle and wish it had been more prominent. not bad but also not the best. Basmati rice- again, not bad but i did get some crunchy, undercooked, rice parts. Most was finely cooked but there was definitely some crunchy bits Naan- again, subtle flavor but the worst part was that it was actually undercooked. the thicker edges were very doughy Definitely willing to try it again but this time in person to see if it's any better. We'll be trying out other indian restaurants in the area to see which we like best. read more

So, we got the a Mo Mo and garlic naan for appetizers, the Nariwal curry with lamb which was excellent. Nice big chunks of perfectly cooked lamb. Also had then Himalayan Chow Chow. All was fantastic. Himalayan kitchen became our go-to for take out during the Covid lockdown. I can easily say we have ordered from here well over a dozen times. I LOVE LOVE LOVE spicy food and when I request a spice level of 10, they are the only place in town that can deliver. Of course they offer a spice level from 1-10 so don't be worried that it's super spicy. The flavors that come out of their kitchen are incredible. Their food is consistently fresh and delicious. Don't make the mistake we have made and order rice because many of their dishes do come with a side of rice. Momos, dhal soup, saag paneer, Tse Phing- my FAV, chicken tikka masala and kathmandu sekuwa are all items we regularly order. I have yet to dine here as I don't believe they offer outdoor seating . If you love a good curry or spicy meal you should most definitely give this hidden gem a chance. read more
