ROTTEN FOOD! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! Came in today and ordered a tiramisu. It comes in a cup with a lid. I saw it in the shelf next to the sandwiches, macaroni salad, potato salad, etc. Had a sweet tooth so I decided to get the tiramisu not knowing that I was purchasing a mold cake. This was the worse thing I've ever put in my mouth. I really hope I don't get terribly sick because of this. The worst part: brought the tiramisu back and showed the cashier the moldy cake... no refund. Asked for possibly a cookie instead, the cashier informed me I would have to pay for the cookie. Very disappointing. Luckily, the health inspector was at the location when this happened so I made sure to inform them of the situation. Maybe the refrigerators weren't working?? Dropped by to pick up a quick lunch during my weekend stay in Ojai. I was craving a sandwich and saw Gustos on Yelp. I got an Italian halfsie sandwich and it was the perfect size. Would recommend just getting a half size if you don't want to be overstuffed. The sandwich itself was yummy and the bread was soft. I never got to try Ojai Valley Deli Cafe so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this was still the same menu, people, and local favorite reputation. The menu isn't too big so it's easy to pick what you want, which can come at an advantage or disadvantage depending on how good at making decisions. I wish they had some more options, which they totally could with their ingredients! They have a fridge with some day old sandwiches for half price: I love that touch! Along with some sides and salads. Another fridge is filled with some yummy drinks and there are a few other treats spread out on the counter top. I got the veggie panini which has great flavors and the bread is so delicious with a crunch on the outside and soft bread goodness on the inside. I would have loved more veggies (besides the mixed greens) in it though. But I'm not gonna hate cause I loved it. My husband got the Italian sub which he devoured. He said it was a great one, and big enough for 2 meals. My mother in law got the chicken breast sandwich which was covered in too much aioli for her unfortunately l, so something to look out for if you aren't a fan of a drenched sandwich. I only regret not grabbing a coconut walnut cookie on the way out! Those looked delicious. The employee that took our order was very kind and helpful and it seems like a small operation because the sandwich chef would come out from the back to grab the orders and begin prep. They got our order out quickly: less than 5 minutes. In the mean time we enjoyed sitting in the new patio equipment outside enjoying the day with other Ojaians that were just as excited for their Gusto food! Ooo and I also appreciate that they put cardboard under the sandwiches when they wrap them up to keep them stout, and they hide a pickle in a bag underneath for all you pickle people :) read more

Ordered up a bunch of food to feed some coworkers for helping on a few bigger tasks today and wanted something new. Ojai Valley Deli Cafe was that choice and it was spot on! When you pass by the exterior is deceiving, a small space with a couple seating areas outdoors and you'd breeze by it if you weren't paying attention. The moment you walk in the smell just lures you in and you know you're going to have something tasty to start the day! We walked out with an Italian sub, meatball sub, turkey sub, pesto panini and a veggie panino all with a side salad to accompany. These sandwiches are massive and flavor packed! Add some extra sides or voodoo chips to round it out if you're extra hungry but that sandwich alone can fill you up in a heartbeat. Can wait to go back and try some of the other option!! read more

My friends and I stopped by here on our first food stop while visiting Ojai. They have a table inside and a couple tables outside. The staff was friendly and seems like a place that locals come to. I chose their prosciutto and burrata sandwich and it was so good! My friend ordered it as well and we could not stop talking about this sandwich. The pesto was so fresh and it was probably one of the best pestos I've had. All the ingredients in the sandwich just worked so well together and the bread was nicely toasted. We went on a Saturday and wanted to get some to go the next day on our way home but it was closed. So sad. We didn't check to see that they're closed on Sundays. Holy moly. I was going to order the tuna sandwich, but was intrigued by a special on the chalkboard outside that read "meat loaf". The employee who greeted us HIGHLY recommended it (twisted my arm, haha), and I am so pleased I ordered it! It was velvety, flavorful, wholesome, and reminded me of my mom's home cooking. What a delight this café is! The authentic Italian food is so delicious. The service is incredible. You're greeted at the counter with genuine good- heartedness. We've been gradually working our way through the entire menu. Usually it's a lunch and sometimes a dinner. This morning it's breakfast out at one of their sweet little tables in front. They opened up about 6 months ago but we have been coming here quite a bit since they opened. The owner and employees are always super nice and the food is fresh. My go to is always the penne bolognese, super delicious! Not going to name drop but there's other places I have been to where the pasta sauce taste bland and the ground beef taste like dog food. This is a new local business. Many in the community have been eagerly awaiting the opening! There was a fairly long line when I arrived during the lunch hour, but that's to be expected. The menu(I posted it in the photos) consists of hot sandwiches(panini) cold sandwiches, salads and hot Italian(mostly pasta) entrees and homemade soups. I noticed at least one cold vegan sandwich and at least one vegan soup... Additionally there are various baked goods available, I think that changes from day today but today there was a vegan carrot cake, tiramisu, chocolate chip cookies and a few other items. We ordered the cold turkey sandwich on ciabatta and the chicken salad sandwich which came on whole wheat. Both sandwiches came with a small spring mix and cherry tomato salad. Everything was obviously freshly made, and with fresh ingredients. The sandwiches were excellent the cookies- we got chocolate chip were great as well. I had a cappuccino which was very good- the coffee was smooth and delicious. The staff( I believe it was the owner) was very friendly and although the wait in line was a bit long, once the order was placed the food was ready fairly quickly. The eggplant Parmesan on the menu looked like it would be very good as well as some of the pasta dishes... We will definitely be back to try some of them in the near future. read more

My favorite place to grab lunch to take back to the office, to the beach, to the park, whereva. The customer service is the epitome of what Ojai should be - friendly, honest and welcoming. My favorite is the Turkey Sandwich (try the "lunch box" to add chips & a sweet treat) however there is nothing on the menu I haven't loved. That feeling when your ma packed you a lunch that was the envy of the cafeteria? That's the vibe you get when picking one of these babies up and taking it back to work.
