I stopped at Taco Roma for their Mexican food but stayed for their beautiful decor inside. Mexican food is limited in Ojai and this is the place to go if you want a good plate of Mexican food. Service was quick and the woman up front greeted us right away. She offered great plates and recommendations. We had one of their frozen Paloma's and it was just what we need for the hot weather that day. We also ordered their chilaquiles, camarones a la diabla, and a taco of mushroom and cactus and a taco of carnitas. The tortillas are homemade and full of flavor. Chilaquiles were crispy and if you want them to be spicy they have their salsa bar with their habanero salsa perfect for the addition. I loved everything. Inside it is beautifully decorated and lots of photography displaying Mexican art in a beautiful way. I was able to look up the artist who captured the pictures and was happy to see it displayed. read more

Okay but Ojai on a weekday with actual energy??? I was shook (in a good way). Yes, technically we have The Hub holding it down till 2am... but overall let's be real, Ojai is a sleepy town. So walking into Radio Roma felt like a plot twist. The vibe? Dim, cozy, a little moody in that effortless way. It's on the smaller side but it works. There's a loft upstairs you can actually see from below, which adds to the whole layered, intimate feel. The hi-fi listening room is what really sets it apart. Vintage sound system, DJs actually curating music, people tuned in. Not just filler noise, it's a whole moment. Cocktails were solid, especially if you're into mezcal. They're known for it and it shows. The mezcal Negroni?? Yeah... that's the one. Smooth, balanced, a little smoky, dangerously easy to keep ordering. Service is easygoing, no fuss. Grab a drink at the bar and head upstairs to the loft for the best view, trust. Haven't tried the food yet so can't speak on that (for now), but between the music, the crowd, and the drinks alone... I'll definitely be back. read more

Loved the patio with all the TVs to watch the World Cup. Very festive atmosphere. We ordered the lunch special. For $15 you can get a burrito or burger and then you can choose 1 side-fries, salsa/chips or street corn. We both ordered the carne asada burrito and I got the street corn and my husband got the chips & salsa. I gave the food 3 stars because it was not hot. The burrito was lukewarm and the cheese never did melt...yuck! The meat was tender and tasty but because the burrito itself wasn't hot it ruined it. Same for the street corn, which is a shame. The flavor of the corn and the sauce and seasonings were spot on but it was lukewarm also. And the chips? You guessed it! Not warm (Warm chips are a must in my opinion) The food could easily be a 5 star with just a simple fix....please heat the food! read more

This spot is really dope for lunchtime, though I haven't checked out their nightlife yet. I've heard the evening scene is amazing, so that's definitely on my list. Just a heads up, their burritos are super skinny, so don't expect huge portions. But honestly, the flavors more than make up for it. Food Highlights (4/5) -- Mushroom and Nopales Taco 5/5 - NEXT LEVEL!!! Maitake mushrooms, nopales, black bean, crema, avocado, salsa macha (contains peanuts) -- Churros 5/5 - BITE SIZE, maybe two bites but fresh and DELISH! Whipped cream, dulce de leche -- Crispy Lamb Carnitas Taco 4/5 Not bad for something new and NOT gamey tasting Local lamb, guacamole, salsa macha (contains peanuts), onion, cilantro Ambiance & Service (3/5) The staff is pretty average, nothing fancy, but they get your order out without any hassle. It's more functional than friendly, but no problems at all. Parking (4/5) There's a lot right next to the restaurant, plus some free street and perimeter parking, so you don't have to stress about paying for parking or searching forever. If you're looking for some creative tacos and a cool lunch spot, this place is worth a try. Just don't expect big burritos, but the taste and quality more than make up for that. read more

We stopped in here as it's one of the few places open late, but quickly realized that reservations are recommended in order to be able to enjoy the dark interior ambiance and music. We were seated outside and ordered a couple of tacos along with some chips and salsa. The food was quite underwhelming and very tiny. I enjoyed the meat on the Crispy Lamb Carnitas taco, and some green salsa from a squeeze bottle that we grabbed off another table. We ended up going to a taco stand later at night that fulfilled our cravings. read more

Tucked just off Ojai's main street, Radio Roma is more than a mezcal bar--it's an intimate hi-fi listening lounge with a heartbeat all its own. From the kitchen of the adjacent Taco Roma, Mexico City-inspired street food fuels the vibe, while guest DJs spin vinyl five nights a week, filling the air with eclectic soul, funk, and everything in between. We arrived on a crisp Friday night around 7:30 PM. As we stepped out of the Uber, faint tunes hummed from the distance. With every footstep, we left the hum of the street behind and drifted deeper into something that felt like a secret--something alive. Outside, curious passersby lingered, drawn in by the chatter and basslines seeping through the glass. I'd been here before. I knew the code: head straight for the limousine-tinted glass door--unmarked and understated. Inside, the energy embraces you like a warm, seductive whisper. Is it the music? The lighting? The mezcal? All of the above. If you've got a reservation, check in at the front and take a beat to absorb the scene. I like to slide up to the bar first--the Oaxacan Old Fashioned is my ritual; the Mezcal Negroni if I'm feeling adventurous. It's the kind of cocktail that warms you from the inside out, especially on chilly winter nights when the sun dips before dinner. Once your table is ready, settle in and order tacos--immediately. The Carne Asada is a bold nod to CDMX, packed with smoke, salt, and soul. But my forever favorite? The Crispy Lamb Carnitas. It's a masterclass in flavor layering--like a hip-hop classic: each bite sampling tradition, adding its own twist, and demanding your attention. Radio Roma doesn't try to impress. It just is. Confident. Undeniably cool. Authentically itself. It knows who it is--and it doesn't apologize. And before you leave, hear me loud and clear: order the churros. Not to share. Not to split. Get your own. These aren't the soggy, reheated kind from a sad fairground stand. They're golden, fresh, crunchy on the outside, cloud-soft inside, and unapologetically addictive. Your selfish side will thank you. Radio Roma is where you go to fall in love--with the music, the mezcal, the moment. Smile at a stranger. Strike up a conversation. Who knows what kind of magic you might find. read more

This restaurant has only been opened in Ojai for approximately three months! Even though its only been opened for a short period of time, it seems to be on people's radar. This restaurant/bar is almost like a speakeasy as its outside appearance is minimal and hidden off the main drag downtown Ojai- tucked on side facing a public parking lot. The restaurant opens at 5:30pm. If planning to not arrive when it opens up, I highly recommend reservations, especially if you are planning to eat inside. The inside features a small darkly light space that host about 6 tables that range from 2-6 people . The bar features approximately 6 seats. Outside features multiple tables on the patio along the parking lot. Given the small size, most guest sit outside which is nice on a cool night. With the said, the indoor space atmosphere is a cool club like environment- that is darkly lit. Featuring a gigantic disco ball and musical instruments lining the walls. For drinks, the bar is known for their mezcals. Their margaritas were solid, nice and tart. We enjoyed their Paloma which featured the smokiness of the Mezcal. If you are not a mezcal fan, there is a lengthy wine and beer list. Plus they have plenty of hard alcohol to make you other drinks. We did not eat at the restaurant but the restaurant features mexican and seafood items. The menu is small. On the menu you can find a wide range of tacos- from fish to chicken mole, ceviche and more. The portions look small so don't come hungry or plan to order a lot. Lastly, the bartender informed me that on a nightly basis there is a DJ that spins- this could be a cool place to hang at the bar. read more

Went to Taco Roma during their lunch time. I got a fish & mole taco, street corn, Tuna Tostada, 2 slushy Paloma's and I somehow spent $68 + tip. This didn't seem too bad , until I saw the portions. You get the typical 18% and 20% tip options but none of the service. Serve your own salsas and pick up your food from the counter. The slushy Paloma as you can see in the picture, came in a cup less than half the size of my water cup. Fish Taco was a small fish stick(65% toppings/tortilla - 35% Fish) , not very "Baja" as it's called. Mole was solid and had a sweet taste. Fresh Tuna on the Tostada, should've been plated a lot nicer. Corn was cold even though it's supposed to be roasted fresh. I've had fresher corn from street vendors for half the price. I'm a fan of the Taco stand ambiance overall and their outdoor patio was pretty, but the food itself isn't something I would return for. I'm curious if the dinner service is any better read more

I don't have a ton of Ojai experience but the legendary tastemaker Serge Becker's newish endeavor has some swagger coupled with phenomenal ambiance and most importantly food that I think that that little main street situation will enjoy. Radio Roma has some of the accoutrements we've seen at La Esquina, Miss Lily's and Cafe Select- Great lighting, visually provocative, while maintaining a unpretentious Ojai leitmotif that from what I can tell really stems from it's owner. I had the Pozole and it was so good I can't stop thinking about it. It was the most flavorful dish I've eaten in modern memory. Next time I want to go for drinks, and do the whole thing. I drove to Ojai for an event at Bart's Books a couple weeks ago and stuck around for a drink at Radio Roma, a mezcal bar and restaurant on Ojai's main strip. I was hanging out with a local friend and she wanted to check it out, as it's apparently the new place in town. Parking was easy on a Wednesday after peak dinnertime, in a lot right up against Radio Roma. We walked over to the nice little patio, where there were only two occupied tables. My friend immediately saw someone she knew at the table on the left, and I saw someone we both knew at the table on the right. The two women at that table had, in fact, been at Bart's Books for the same event. A fun reminder that only about 7,500 people live in Ojai. We joined the table on the right, and I never actually saw the inside of the bar. The patio was pleasant, though, even on a cold, dark night. There was attentive table service, and the drinks came quickly. I had a Mezcal Negroni and it was quite good, made with Madre mezcal, Campari, and sweet vermouth. I could only stay for one round before driving back to L.A., but no matter--the place closed at 9:00 anyway. I had a great time at Radio Roma and would be happy to come back on another visit to Ojai, for more mezcal cocktails and maybe some tacos, too. read more

A mixture of food but the main focal point is the $7 California burrito. A fair amount of meat but only two French fries. It's the smallest burrito the world has ever seen. The chef is Japanese so it makes sense the portions would be small but this was tiny for me. And we all know in a deep fryer no one on gods green earth is frying just two French fries. A burrito should come with a minimum of 3 fries. This is the world's tiniest taco pretending to be a burrito. To be fair they did warn me it would be small but not this small. The atmosphere is loud and disco and bright. The chef apparently has a Michelin star for tortillas so that's amazing but the music makes my ear bleed. Overall I left still hungry. If you're looking for a typical Mexican restaurant this is not it. Two French fries in a burrito with cheese, crema, steak. Steak is good but it's no burrito it's like a tacos smaller cousin. Overall it's a miss for me. Please avoid this place read more

Made a TikTok (@tiktokmarg) about this place because it's such a hidden gem! Not much seating but it's such a vibe in there. Frozen Paloma with mezcal is amazing and you HAVE to get some tacos!! This place is delicious and such a welcome addition to town! We got the chips and guac, ceviche tostada, crispy lamb carnitas taco( SO GOOD!), fish taco, chicken mole taco and the carne asada taco. I got a mezcal/tequila Paloma and my husband got the fortaleza blanco. They have a great selection of tequilas and mezcals. The inside is small, but really cool. I really wish I could leave a good review for this establishment. Overall, the ambience is super cute and great for an esthetic TikTok video, but the service and food were subpar and ultimately very disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the woman who greeted us was very cold. She sat us at a table basically on the sidewalk, outside of the restaurant, away from the ambiance, the music, lights and other patrons dining. Not only was our table location awkward, the placement made it so that we were blasted with sound from this restaurant on one side and a live band coming from the bar across the street which made everything extremely overstimulating. Our table was dirty when we sat down and we had to ask to be served water. The food was brought out without any utensils or enough plates for the three of us that were dining. Not only was the server's energy almost passive aggressive, but she kept touching us, which made us extremely uncomfortable. As we finished plates, no one came to bus our table (probably because we were seated outside of the restaurant...) so we had to hold our plates while we ate and eventually bussed the table ourselves putting empties on the spare chair. On top of all of that, mid-meal, a couple of men came out from the bar and lit up cigarettes in the middle of the outdoor dining area and not one staff member asked them to put it out or move. The overall experience was unpleasant. read more

It took over 1 hour to get 4 tiny tacos that cost us $30. Definitely not worth it! An excellent small restaurant. We sat at one of their tables outside. It was peaceful and quiet. The servers were attentive and very friendly. We started on chips with a generous amount of guacamole. The fish ceviche tostada was good but we have had better. The mushroom & nopales taco was tasty. The chicken mole tostada was excellent. But the star was the crispy lamb carnitas taco. It was so good we had to get a second one. The tostadas are not huge, but it just gives you the opportunity to try more. We will definitely return. read more

Horrible service and old food. I genuinely wondered if it was satire. Placed a to-go order, the employee who rang me up had stepped away, and the owner, Lisa, was standing right there, on hold, staring at the bag. When I politely asked if she could grab it, she snapped at me and told me to "go around!" When I asked if she could simply hand it to me, she snapped, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" She was at the register. The bag was directly behind her. It made absolutely no sense for me to walk around the counter to retrieve my own order when she was standing inches away from it. The food matched the service. The breakfast tacos had watery, undercooked scrambled eggs, dry old meat, and a mountain of cheese dumped on top like a disguise. The guacamole was half-filled, already browning, and served with stale chips. Absolutely uncalled for. Snapping at customers while serving stale food months after opening is insane. You'd think a new restaurant would be trying to impress people, not scare them off. read more

Don't get me wrong--the ambiance and food are immaculate. Unfortunately, the service was a major letdown. It felt like the restaurant bit off more than they could chew. Things started off well but quickly went downhill when the chips and guac took about 15 minutes to arrive. We had already finished them before we were even able to place our food order. From there, everything came out slowly and out of sync. The tacos arrived first, but with no napkins. Then the camarones a la diabla came out...still no napkins, and no utensils this time either. We eventually managed to flag down our server to get what we needed, but those basics should have already been taken care of. The salad and tuna tostada didn't arrive until after the tacos. To be clear, the food itself was excellent. But the service made the experience frustrating. It was difficult to flag down our server when we needed something, and there was a general lack of attention to detail. Our second round of drinks came quickly, but in plastic cups, which didn't match the otherwise nice atmosphere. Since the portions are small, we decided to order more. Another server informed us it would take 45 minutes to an hour--after we had already waited about that long for our initial order. At that point, we decided to call it a night and asked for the check. The server comped two of our drinks, which was appreciated, but it didn't quite make up for the overall lack of service and communication. I understand that kitchens can get backed up, but that needs to be communicated clearly, and basic items like napkins and utensils shouldn't have to be requested. I came here with my partner to celebrate an anniversary, and while I wouldn't recommend it for a special occasion, it could be a good spot for drinks and bite. Just don't expect much in terms of service. read more

This place had potential but unfortunately the service is what kills it. We came here for late night drinks and enjoyed our evening. We enjoyed it enough to return the next evening. That night, one of the bartenders, after we had ordered and closed out, insisted that we did not pay correctly. We showed him our bank statement (clearly showing the amount we paid) for our 2 over priced drinks, but he still insisted that we did not close out correctly and condescendingly told us that "next time there will be a problem" after a long argument. I can guarantee that there absolutely will never be another "time" here because I will never give another penny to these employees or this establishment. I work and have a business in the alcohol/service industry and I can never image treating a customer the way my party was treated. read more

Sweet crew that works here, and fun nights. The DJs are often great and really varied night to night.

Amazing ambiance, music, and mezcal. A triple threat that can't be beat. 10/10 recommend.

Taco Roma - I can't speak for the Radio Roma dinning experience, maybe it's great. Taco Roma caught my hungry eye as we passed by. The place was relatively empty which is completely fine, we assumed faster service and lots of seating. We just wanted a nice little lunch. Somehow the tacos, all 4 that we had ordered arrived in varying ingredient temperature. The eggs and the meat were cold, like actually cold. The tortilla had been moderately warmed. The burrito was good and warm but only because it had been wrapped in foil and sitting under a warming lamp is my bet. Ojai has a lot of food, you're better off eating at any of them. I probably wokld have rather shared a meal with a local coyote. Person who took the order was nice otherwise, nice option of drinks. read more

Let me just say I was influenced to try this place by a tik tok video I saw recently. I had read the reviews here and decided I needed to try this place. I visited this place with my family of 7 right when they opened at 5:30pm. First time visiting I had no clue if I needed to be seated. I see a young lady taking peoples order outside so I stay out side. We asked her for a bigger table and she asked us help her join two small tables since she had no one else to help her. Ambience is nice for family with little kids and for a family of all grown ups. Everyone seems to enjoy the outdoor seating. It was a bit cold and not once did the waitress or bus boy offer to anyone to turn on the out door heaters. Our food was eh average I can say it's over hyped. Like the other comments say here the downfall is that the food is somewhat cold when it gets to you. While we sat eating our food we notice that other clients are getting offered to sit inside as an option but when we asked for a better table for a bigger family they said we needed reservations. Anyway we get our check and pay and hangout for a bit. We finish our drinks and some food we had left when all of the the waitress decides to asks us for the table we helped her put together for a reservation that was arriving in a few minutes. I also couldn't help but notice they had a bunch of other empty tables behind us. Waitress chuckles and apologizes that she has 3 people working only. In all honesty I would not have left a tip for the service I received. I felt like I was not treated like the other group of customers that were arriving and I'll be honest I am disappointed in the customer service it's not authentic and it's not a good representation of a Mexico City restaurant/bar. If they are short staffed why open and serve mid food and treat people unfairly. read more

Extraordinary food and the most beautiful bar in Ojai. The $5 tacos and beef-tallow-fried chips are to die for.

While the vibes are great and the place is decorated fun with good cocktails, the food and service were incredibly poor. It took us probably 40 minutes to get our food order in and all the tables weren't even full. When our food finally arrived, the tortillas were cold and so was the cali burrito. Had high hopes but I think they're still figuring out how to make dinner service work here. read more

Perhaps they are trying to be infamous for the worst burrito in the northern hemisphere. "California burrito" is literally 3 ingredients...stale soggy fries+dry meat, wrapped in a mediocre dry tortilla. The guacamole and chips was weak also....the chips are horrid, and the guacamole was ice cold. With a menu so small you should at least be able to have some decent chips! Menu items that claimed to have "crème" had no detectable "crème". The mushroom taco was decent, but overall the food was bland, dry, lacking sauces, lacking cheeses, and portion sizes were tiny. Service was lame. Atmosphere and lighting was great, otherwise it would have been a one star review. read more

Quick response to Emily L. If you check the menu, they call this dish a "burritito." That "ito" ending in Spanish implies small or little. Sometimes, it is used for the name of someone young, such as "Ponchito." Or, if you know the chain "Poquito Mas" (a little more). So, complaints about the small size seem improper given that the name of the dish tells you it is not a full sized burrito. This place is awesome and has a vibe that is new to Ojai and so cool....the patio is like a European cafe, with cool people hanging out and having a good time. The workers keep a positive attitude and try hard to be efficient and helpful. Thank goodness something with a hip vibe has come to Ojai...we can use all the life and energy we can get in our little town. read more
