It's been a loooonnnggg time since I've been to galloping Hen so we decided to stop in for breakfast on a rainy Friday. The space looks the same but is definitely under a different ownership from my last visit. The service was good and we were seated quickly. The menu had an extensive amount of options, but nothing seemed to really stand out. I ended up with the Cali breakfast burrito with eggs, fries, guac and asada. It came with sour cream and pico on the side. The burrito was pretty large, but really didn't hit the pallet it was just ok and filled the belly. It wasn't something that I'd crave and most likely won't make another visit.

Oh my gosh I love this place! Tucked away out of eyesight behind Big Lots! What a fantastic breakfast spot!! Very clean, small and simple place. Very friendly service! Food was yummy and they have great coffee! Highly recommend coming here!

In venture for family appointments and found this place for breakfast. Small older, good oldies music and seated quickly. However, the two servers working spent 10 mins talking in the kitchen before they finally came out to take our order. But, this was only after an older man that was seated at the same time as us " went to the door and asked if someone going to wait on him?!" For very slow service and very strong coffee its rating is a 3. Once our order was taken, food came out pretty fast. Food was good and kudos to the cook! We May consider returning in the future.

What a hidden hen! Hahaha, see what I did there? I've seen this place over the years and always talked about visiting but hadn't until now. So yummy! I love me some chicken and waffles. And they were cooked perfectly with the nice crunch. The pancakes were round and golden and the perfect soft butter. I was actually surprised how good the hot chocolate was. So yummy! It was a lot bigger inside than it looked outside. Super cute restaurant. My hubby was SO happy because they kept his coffee cup full the entire time. Like the ENTIRE time. I want to go try more items soon!

Talk about a throwback old school breakfast spot. I'm never in this part of town so genuinely when I found it on Yelp I had no idea where I was going and when I turned into a baby blue colored shopping mall off the main drag I thought I had been transported to my grandmas era lol. This is a cool business shopping center stuck in time, old school Ventura and definitely a spot that feels nostalgic. The setting made for the perfect spot for a classic breakfast and lunch restaurant catering to the locals of Ventura as this spot is a staple, not one that's calling to the instagramers or influencers. And they are okay with that. It's clear that their customer base are locals coming in for a no frills meal with family down home vibes. Service was definitely 5 stars but casual. We were seated right away and orders taken without fuss. Everyone was very nice and welcoming but also kept to themselves and allowed you to enjoy your meal. The food came out reasonably quick and was super fresh. Our waitress was nice and got us everything we needed. When it came time to bus our tables and clear them they were on top of that too. No misses when it came to service. We loved the large menu and you'll definitely find something for everyone. Of course they specialize in breakfast and lunch diner type plates. The prices were average and the menu was easy to navigate, despite having a lot to choose from. The interior of this restaurant is very classic feel good family vibes. We laughed a little at all of the rooster/chicken/hen decor everywhere - hence the name of the place Galloping Hen. It was fun. The food was classic and totally hit the spot. My friend got an omelette that they let her customize a little bit with a side of hash browns. I was in the mood for a tuna melt and fries and it was tasty. Butter grilled bread and a generous amount of tuna. If you like a grilled tuna they have a good one here, I just only crave it once in a blue moon so I'll be good for a while. Definitely would love to come back to try their chicken fried steak or other classic breakfast combos. This spot is definitely going to stick around for another 40 years and I'm hoping to support them when I'm in the area and craving some down home classic cooking and service. Good spot, definitely give them a try!

This breakfast eatery has lasted the test of time (since 1984). Galloping Hen offers up all your favorite standard breakfast items along with burgers and sandwiches. My husband saw a dish being delivered to another table and had to have it. The Buckaroo came with grilled biscuit, sausage, omelette and topped with gravy with a side of potatoes. He loved it. I had the French Connection, eggs, sausage and French toast. I always take a chance ordering sausage but this was good. Good service.

Nice family run establishment with an excellent menu. Hostess super vigilant and helpful. Waitress friendly, efficient, and professional. The Omelette #4 was perfect. Cheese onion spinach and BACON. Oh yeah. Cooked perfectly.

Chili verde omelette. My husband wasn't a fan of the cheese. So he scraped it off

Such a cute place! I've only eaten here twice, but would absolutely go back if anyone needed a suggestion for breakfast. Wonderful service! I've had the corn beef hash plate and their chorizo plate. Both are delicious. And these portions are hearty. My husband has had the chili verde-pork omelette and the chilaquiles. His omelette was okay, as the meat portions were in chunks and he thought they would be shredded. The chilaquiles are BOMB. I highly recommend that dish. Plenty of seating as well. We shall be back!

The first time we visited, we had an amazing experience--not just with the food, but also with the staff. The second time, I brought my mom because I wanted to share this hidden gem with her, and it was just as wonderful. The third time, my parents went on their own and unfortunately had a less positive experience with the staff. They mentioned that a request--something actually suggested to us by the staff on our second visit--couldn't be accommodated this time, which felt inconsistent. Personally, I'm still willing to give them another try because 2 out of our 3 visits have been great. Hopefully, it was just an off day, and not something that happens often.

The decor is crowded and not cohesive. It feels cluttered. The tables are and walls and seats are sticky even when clean. It just all seemed a bit...dingy. They had that fun little peg game to play to keep you busy but half of them are missing pieces and they are also really dirty. We ordered hot chocolate (yum) and some basic breakfast items. My husband really liked his items. He said he would give his at least a 4 stars, but this is my yelp review lol. My food was very bland and not flavorful. I could have made the same thing at home. I don't mind spending money. In fact, I love going out to a good breakfast, but it has to be a good breakfast. If it's subpar it's really a waste of money and calories for me and that what I feel this experience was. I think I got "crunchy" French toast and it had mildly soggy corn Flakes on it. The idea was fun but the execution wasn't great. My husband simply ordered meat, eggs and potatoes. It was okay, nothing to write home about. Take what I say with a grain of salt and maybe try it for yourself. It could have been an off day for the kitchen or staff? Personally I don't think I will be back or recommend but I can tell you there were clearly regulars here that day and they do have quite a reputation so at some point they have done something right.

At 9:30AM there was already a line with about 5 parties ahead of us. We only waited for about 20 minutes and we were able to sit al fresco to enjoy the sun & people watching. I ordered a Cortado with Oat milk for my espresso kick and my husband enjoyed the Tuscan Sunrise juice from the seasonal menu (fresh pineapple, orange, carrot, ginger, lemon and tumeric) that was refreshing and restoring. I loved their signature Breakfast Lasagna, which was fully stacked and hearty - layers of bacon, bechamel, prosciutto cotto, spinach, eggs, and mozzarella, all smothered in marinara and topped with a fried egg. It's more than filling and great to share with someone who ordered brunch entree on the sweet side like pancakes or Belgium waffles. My husband had the Chicken Avocado Bacon Panini with Swiss & cheddar cheeses, butter lettuce, garlic aioli and caramelized onions. He asked to omit the roma tomatoes. I had a bite and it was yummy...great for a lunchy entree. We finished the meal with another season menu item, the Pistachio Ricotta Cake. I could have ordered two...not to share, just for me. It was really good and I hope they keep it to their standard menu. The service was at a slower pace, but the server did check on us periodically. One thing I can strongly recommend is their 'Bacon flight' appetizer, which has 5 different types of mouth-watering bacon flavors to sample. There is also a full bar for those who wish to enjoy a boozy brunch. Their coffee comes from the Santa Barbara Roasting Company, and they generously refilled my friend's cup over and over! Water is self serve. Drip coffee- perfect and high quality. It tasted like Kona coffee! Lavender matcha- great and well balanced Japanese milk bread- this fell a tad short for me. I would've liked both sides to be seasoned/flavored. Japanese Milk bread is typically moist and fluffy , however this was a little dry likely due to the toasting of the bread. The color overall was lighter than expected. It's served with a berry sauce which is really yummy. Side of smashed potatoes- really good. Perfectly seasoned and ketchup tasted homemade Aussie meat pie- soooooo delicious! The crust was awesome and the meat was tender. We also loved the side salad because it had a little zing of lemon. A rare moment where a side salad is actually fantastic! Miso chicken katsu Sando- really loved this! The chicken breast is huge. As other reviews stated, it's not a typical chicken katsu. If you like honey, you'll like this. The honey sauce hits you on the front end and ends with a little acidity from the aioli and slaw. The sandwich was super juicy and flavorful. While large, it didn't feel heavy. Each bite got better and better. Brontë bowl - OUR FAVORITE!!!! Ok first off, I hate mushrooms with a passion, but I kept them in the order because they are curried and I knew theyre an essential part of the dish. They were awesome. I didn't mind them one bit. This dish does not need salmon, and if anything I think adding it would've been too salty. I naturally eat fast but this bowl makes you slow down because of the layers/elements. The sweetness of onions, the creaminess of the feta and avocado, the crunch from the seeds, the delicious pesto, the buttered bread, the perfectly poached eggs - UGH! So perfect! Everything had a purpose. I am obsessed with this bowl. It is so much more filling than you'd think. I could eat this everyday and I hope they never change it. Ambiance was great. We sat at the bar which felt spacious. The inside is gorgeous and just puts you in a good mood. The best thing about this place is the staff. Literally every single person we interacted with was amazing! Everyone here is friendly, warm, and just looks happy to be there. I can't wait to return!!!!!
