It's very cute. I really thought this was going to be great. A few things to be mindful of: there is a weird dynamic between the lead server and the hosts. He was admonishing them in front of patrons. They are somewhat deceitful in their menu: as an example, had I known the maple syrup would be cheap flavored syrup with HFCS, I'd never have used it. I instantly had a migraine, plus it's just gross. If you can't afford real maple syrup, just say so, and give customers the choice not to use it. Also the coffee was ATROCIOUS. It somehow was weak and burned concurrently and I'm pretty sure it was $3.50! Other than that, it was okay. This is a great breakfast/brunch spot! The food here is simply delicious! I got the Meat Lovers Omelette and it was amazing! Other places where I've had omelettes the egg part tends to be dry, but not here, it was perfectly moist! Overall this is one of the best omelette I've ever had! I prefer waffles over pancakes but the ones listed on the menu included eggs and such. They were able to make one a la carte for me. Although yummy the waffle was a little pricey, 9.99 for a plain waffle. Service was good, the server checked on me throughout my meal. I'm always on the look out for good Chilaquiles. Years ago, there was a great Mexican family restaurant called Luna's Mexican Tradition in the Palms Marketplace in Oxnard. They made excellent Chilaquiles! They were so good we would often order them for dinner. All their food was great. Then, sadly, the economy pushed them to extinction and nothing has filled the void. One day, I sat down for breakfast at the Galloping Hen, ordered Chilaquiles, and... Sadly, most breakfast restaurants in the Oxnard, Camarillo, Ventura area serve up their version of disappointment. But today, persistence paid off. I was rewarded with a large bowl of saucy, crispy tortilla chips with a great ratio of white onion, Cotija cheese, and surprise, refried beans under this mass of goodness. Two over medium eggs on top works really well for me. I have been back two times since that first taste, the same order...Very good Chilaquiles! It's been a loooonnnggg time since I've been to galloping Hen so we decided to stop in for breakfast on a rainy Friday. The space looks the same but is definitely under a different ownership from my last visit. The service was good and we were seated quickly. The menu had an extensive amount of options, but nothing seemed to really stand out. I ended up with the Cali breakfast burrito with eggs, fries, guac and asada. It came with sour cream and pico on the side. The burrito was pretty large, but really didn't hit the pallet it was just ok and filled the belly. Breakfast was bomb. Yummy in my tummy bomb. I have really high standards for chicken fried steak. Now that I have had the Galloping Hen's chicken fried steak and eggs, I am a huge fan. There is only 1 other local restaurant that makes superb chicken fried steak. The gravy was also super yummy. My friend ordered the Hawaiian omelet. She loved it. In venture for family appointments and found this place for breakfast. Small older, good oldies music and seated quickly. However, the two servers working spent 10 mins talking in the kitchen before they finally came out to take our order. But, this was only after an older man that was seated at the same time as us " went to the door and asked if someone going to wait on him?!" For very slow service and very strong coffee its rating is a 3. Once our order was taken, food came out pretty fast. Food was good and kudos to the cook! What a hidden hen! Hahaha, see what I did there? I've seen this place over the years and always talked about visiting but hadn't until now. So yummy! I love me some chicken and waffles. And they were cooked perfectly with the nice crunch. The pancakes were round and golden and the perfect soft butter. I was actually surprised how good the hot chocolate was. So yummy! It was a lot bigger inside than it looked outside. Super cute restaurant. My hubby was SO happy because they kept his coffee cup full the entire time. Like the ENTIRE time. Talk about a throwback old school breakfast spot. I'm never in this part of town so genuinely when I found it on Yelp I had no idea where I was going and when I turned into a baby blue colored shopping mall off the main drag I thought I had been transported to my grandmas era lol. The setting made for the perfect spot for a classic breakfast and lunch restaurant catering to the locals of Ventura as this spot is a staple, not one that's calling to the instagramers or influencers. And they are okay with that. It's clear that their customer base are locals coming in for a no frills meal with family down home vibes. Service was definitely 5 stars but casual. We were seated right away and orders taken without fuss. Everyone was very nice and welcoming but also kept to themselves and allowed you to enjoy your meal. The food came out reasonably quick and was super fresh. Our waitress was nice and got us everything we needed. When it came time to bus our tables and clear them they were on top of that too. No misses when it came to service. We loved the large menu and you'll definitely find something for everyone. Of course they specialize in breakfast and lunch diner type plates. The prices were average and the menu was easy to navigate, despite having a lot to choose from. The interior of this restaurant is very classic feel good family vibes. We laughed a little at all of the rooster/chicken/hen decor everywhere - hence the name of the place Galloping Hen. It was fun. The food was classic and totally hit the spot. My friend got an omelette that they let her customize a little bit with a side of hash browns. I was in the mood for a tuna melt and fries and it was tasty. Butter grilled bread and a generous amount of tuna. If you like a grilled tuna they have a good one here, I just only crave it once in a blue moon so I'll be good for a while. Definitely would love to come back to try their chicken fried steak or other classic breakfast combos. This spot is definitely going to stick around for another 40 years and I'm hoping to support them when I'm in the area and craving some down home classic cooking and service. On a road trip, we had to make a stop to eat. The Galloping Hen opens at 8am and sure enough we had to check it out at 8:02. Alex greeted us swiftly and professionally. My girlfriend had the chorizo omelet- perfectly seasoned and potatoes that were nothing less than fork tendered paired with a 10/10 orange juice. I ordered the Nutella Banana French toast- they are must have if you have that sweet tooth in the morning. My coffee was never empty and always hot! I was really disappointed with my experience here, especially as a vegetarian. I ordered a breakfast burrito and clearly asked for no chicken or any meat, explaining that I'm vegetarian. I requested just rice, beans, and onions. I also asked if fries could be added (I was fine paying extra), but was told there were "no substitutions," so I let it go. The food also took a very long time to come out. My husband received his toast about 15 minutes before his actual breakfast plate, and by the time the rest of the food arrived, the toast was completely cold. When my burrito arrived, it was served as a wet burrito, and nowhere on the menu did it state that the sauce contained pork or meat. I noticed a piece that looked like chicken and mentioned it to the server. She insisted it wasn't chicken and said she had asked for no chicken. I then had to physically turn my plate and point to the very obvious piece of meat for her to say, "Oh, that's pork, pork is in our sauces." At that point, it was clear that continuing the conversation wasn't productive. After clearly explaining that I am vegetarian, any meat on the dish, whether chicken or pork, made it inedible for me. I had to dissect the burrito to avoid the meat-based sauce just to eat a small portion of the beans and cheese, and I couldn't eat the tortilla at all. The server saw me struggling with the plate, but never came back to check if everything was okay or offer any solution or alternative. Eating out is a treat for us, and we genuinely like to support local businesses, which makes this experience especially unfortunate. In town for the weekend and looked on Yelp for breakfast in our area. Found this place and it did not disappoint! Went for the first time today with my sister in law , she was saying that they loved it there so I thought that I was going to be wowed! I ordered the galloping Enchiladas ( chicken enchiladas with rice and beans) and a side of pico de gallo.... Sounds yummy right?! The enchiladas were very salsa and the pico de gallo was rancid that I had to spit it out. It came out in takeout containers, so the Lord knows how long they've been sitting in the fridge. The second time, I brought my mom because I wanted to share this hidden gem with her, and it was just as wonderful. The third time, my parents went on their own and unfortunately had a less positive experience with the staff. They mentioned that a request--something actually suggested to us by the staff on our second visit--couldn't be accommodated this time, which felt inconsistent. We came on a Sunday around 11 and got sat right away. There is a lot of parking here. The prices here were affordable and the food was delicious. When we arrived it was lively outside and mostly inside too, but as we left it was empty outside. We ordered quickly and our food came out quickly. We got red chilaquiles, Ventura omelette and 2 pancakes for the table. I would recommend everything we ordered, the chilaquiles had great flavor and the egg was cooked perfectly. The pancakes were priced well and deliciously fluffy. The potatoes with the Ventura omelette were cooked nicely but needed more seasoning. On two separate Holidays, my wife and I were unable to eat at our usual locations. This place happened to be open, so we gave it a try. The restaurant is located in the same shopping center as Big Lots. There is plenty of parking. The restaurant is spacious with two rooms for indoor seating with a few outdoor tables. The décor consists of poultry based art, economical chairs and tables, and plastic screens between tables (for Covid protection). The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our food came out after about 25 minutes, but it was worth the wait. We had the seafood benedict and the fried chicken and waffle. The poached egg was cooked perfectly, the shrimp and imitation crab was savory and well cooked, and the hash browns were crispy without being overly oily. My chicken steak was very crispy and tender. I did wish the waffle was crispier though as it was fairly soft. The prices were very affordable when we went last year, but prices have increased to reflect inflation. Overall, this is a good brunch place and we will be coming back. Support your local mom and pop shop rather than chain restaurants! read more

Total came out to less than $50 before tip and portions were generous! The food was hot and fresh, and we were served in a timely manner despite the restaurant having quite a few guests. We dined outside since we had our dog with us, and the tables outside were fairly simple, just adorned with a tablecloth. The inside was quite spacious and had homey decorations all around. The restrooms also were very clean and were split in single, gendered rooms. My only complaints were than the biscuit in my food broke a bit too easily, making the meal harder to eat; in addition, the water pressure in the restroom was very small (a few drips coming out despite turning the knobs all the way up). We were looking for an early morning breakfast spot and stopped here on Monday morning. Apparently we were the first ones there as they had opened just a few minutes prior, and were quickly seated. Not in downtown Ventura, but in a big shopping center. Locale: The decor is very "country kitchen" with cute decor hens everywhere! It has a good amount of seating on the inside and has a front patio section as well! Service was great! They were very nice and polite and very attentive! We never had an empty coffee cup! Food: Here's the best part! This was a very comfort food type place and everything we got was delicious! May I recommend the chilaquiles? Because they were amazingggg!!! I am not a fan of eggs, so I asked to replace eggs with chorizo.. and it was sooooooo good!!!!!! Big portion too!!! So I was so happy to have my leftovers for lunch.l too! Some outside seating and casual verging on seedy ambiance. The wait staff is very nice but the food is hit or miss. I have had excellent pancakes, and it is often busy, lots of repeat customers. The last time here I had a bad experience. My order was wrong, they offered to remake it but so was starving so I ate what was served. The greasiest hash browns I have ever had and we both had some gastric distress afterwards. The oatmeal was served without milk. These little things add up. We are in shock and disbelief because we were asked to leave the Galloping Hen today. We come every morning for a very long time and feed two to three people every morning seven days a week. We come every day because I bring a friend of mine that is handicapped and this is one of the only enjoyments she gets in a day. When we were leaving the Hen there was one person sitting on the bench outside and one standing, so I don't think that was a reason to have us leave. I voiced my opinion that I thought that the waitress was very rude. I was told that it wasn't rude to have asked us to leave. I guess this is a new way of handling customer service. We had breakfast and we were having a wonderful conversation over coffee like we do almost every day. This was so hurtful especially for the friend of mine that is handicapped. read more

We tried this place after a long hiatus. It was Sunday morning before church and my wife wanted French toast. We found a long hair cooked into my wife's French toast. I understand that stuff happens but I was upset that the waitress says to me that we all have our hair up. Implying that we are lying or trying to scam them.
